The gathering reports plenty of dog attacks from the other clans. It seems that there has been rise of twolegs hiking around clan territory recently, bringing their dogs with them. The leaders warn the other clans to be cautious especially now that one warrior from FireClan had been killed by one.

Otterripple remembers how Tawnyrose used to go out to the twolegplace as an apprentice, remembering how she said that the kittypets always had something to eat. Not wanting her sister and her kits to starve, she decides to try and look for food there and she manages to convince her mate Hootnose to come with her. Halfway through their journey, they discover that her apprentice Sharppaw secretly followed them. Undeterred, they manage to catch a few alley rats and made their way back. They also tried to taste some kittypet food but found it too difficult to carry back. They covered up their trip by saying they found the rats going threw some twoleg trash left in their borders.

The new litter meant more mouths to feed and the clan was eager not lose another queen to the famine. Still experiencing the high of their last victory, Goosestar decides that they were to grow their borders against FireClan next. It was a smaller patrol but they had the clan's best fighter Sunflight on it - while the cream tom hadn't really been keen on fighting for the past few years, he was still willing to do it to serve his clan.

Sunflight's quick thinking and experience helping the medicine cats allowed him to stabilize and be transported back to camp. Seeing how close his son was to death, Sunflight officially requests to be a medicine cat. Squirrelbloom is sad because she realizes this means that they may not have any other litters.
