Rainpaw was a black she-cat with a white muzzle who was always curious about kittypets. She talked to a few in her life, but she knew she was breaking the warrior code. The apprentice was currently training with her mentor, Silvershadow, who was teaching her how to fight like a warrior.
Silvershadow nodded. "So you have to dodge your attack, like this.." The silver tabby dodged an imaginary move from another Clan cat. Rainpaw was impressed at her quick reflexes. She mewed, "What if I'm distracted?"
Silvershadow mewed, "Then you're obviously going to get killed. Rainpaw, you can't be distracted if you want to be a good warrior. A good warrior is always aware of their surroundings."
Rainpaw nodded.
"Now attack me."
Rainpaw hesitated before leaping toward Silvershadow, claws unsheathed. The she-cat hissed and turned around, biting Silvershadow's paw, who was about to bat her head to make her unconscious. Silvershadow was impressed. "Not bad," she purred. "But first, you need to try to move a little faster. Your reflexes are slow, but you're improving."
Rainpaw nodded and looked at Silvershadow. "How's Lilypaw?" she asked.
"Lilypaw is doing well." Silvershadow purred. Lilypaw was Silvershadow's kit. "She's training with Whitestorm and they're making great progress together."
Rainpaw felt a little stab of jealousy that she praised Lilypaw over her. But she shouldn't be angry over her friend. She wanted to spend time with Lilypaw after she'd finished training.
"Can we go home now?" Rainpaw asked. Silvershadow nodded. "Of course. We'll pick up some prey for the Clan before heading out to hunt."
Rainpaw purred at this. She loved hunting. The black she-cat headed toward the hunting area, which was full of bushes, and decided to look for a squirrel. Sure enough, there was one nibbling on an acorn. The she-cat began to stalk it, and leaped at it before it ran off with a killing bite.
Rainpaw purred at this and carried her squirrel back to camp. She wanted to brag about this to her best friend. Rainpaw placed the squirrel onto the fresh-kill pile before heading over to Lilypaw.
Lilypaw purred and waved her tail, inviting her to join her friends. Rainpaw scowled. She was jealous that her friend had so much attention. The she-cat looked grumpy but still headed toward Lilypaw.
"How was hunting?" Lilypaw asked.
"Good," Rainpaw replied. "I caught a squirrel."
"That's great! Me and Sorrelpaw caught two pigeons. It's not a lot, but I think it's better than nothing."
"That pigeon was so stupid," Sorrelpaw bragged. "It didn't even notice me hunting it! Lilypaw stalked it before I gave it the killing bite, and it fell limp immediately. It didn't notice a thing."
Lilypaw laughed. "It was a pretty stupid bird." She turned to Rainpaw. "Would you like to hunt together, the two of us?"
"Okay!" Rainpaw purred. She'd love hunting with her friends.
"Let's ask our deputy for permission first before heading out." Lilypaw mewed. She headed away toward the FeatherClan deputy, Shadepelt, and asked if they can hunt together.
Shadepelt turned to Lilypaw, Sorrelpaw, and Rainpaw. "You three may hunt together, but be careful. There's probably lots of foxes and badgers and-"
"We'll be careful!" Sorrelpaw purred. "Thank you for permission!" She turned to her two other friends and purred, "Let's go!" and headed away out of camp.
Rainpaw looked at Lilypaw and headed out of camp with her. She was enjoying her friend's company. It had been a while since she'd spent proper time with Lilypaw.
"Silvershadow said your training is getting along well." Rainpaw began as she was heading out of camp.
Lilypaw nodded. "It is. My mentor is tough! But I'm learning a lot."
"Don't you ever find training boring sometimes?" Rainpaw asked Lilypaw. She cuffed the brown surface and looked at her friend. "I mean, we do it every day. I'd like to try something different."
Lilypaw tilted her head. "Like what?"
"Like maybe we can try tree-climbing, for example. Or patrol areas that aren't close to the Clans, places we've never been to before..."
"You're just bored. Rainpaw, it's not that bad. I think you're just complaining over nothing." Lilypaw laughed, then purred and headed toward Sorrelpaw.
But I want to do something that isn't just.. what we do every day. Rainpaw stopped. Suddenly she turned to a fence that was near her. She decided to explore it. She blinked her blue eyes and looked at Sorrelpaw and Lilypaw, who were both farther away from her. Rainpaw decided to leap over the fence and abandon her friends. I need to explore this!
Silvershadow nodded. "So you have to dodge your attack, like this.." The silver tabby dodged an imaginary move from another Clan cat. Rainpaw was impressed at her quick reflexes. She mewed, "What if I'm distracted?"
