Ooo Those are some fun character concepts! Wine aunt would be great, and we need older characters in I think all the clans? Soft boy would fit in great with crowclan's love of shiny things and gifts, and hooligan would be excellent for chaos!

Probably??? Depends on how long Cherryshine was alive. Did you have any ideas for her? I threw out that she was also on the black team with Rainhowl, which would have made them friends and a convenient father.

I'm thinking that Rainhowl would have (unhealthily) convinced himself that he's aroace because he's waiting for his Soulmate like a SwanClan cat. Because of that, he'd be a little guilty having kits that weren't with his Soulmate, but he also probably decided to have them to ground himself in OwlClan and secure a family line here, since he had no blood family in the Clan and felt disconnected (which is hard in OwlClan, what with all the focus on community). So he'd be completely dedicated to Beartuft, even if he also felt awkward around him. He'd probably also judge everything Bear does internally, but be absolutely unable to openly criticize him and be totally protective of him, to the point of excusing and standing behind every choice he makes, even if it makes Rain uncomfortable, like his friendship with Shrike.

Aweeee that is sweet and we can let it go where it wants! I agree that Cherryshine should have died recently; that would give a good reason that black team is missing a member for now. It would also be rather tough for Beartuft that his parents weren't traditionally mates like most of his peers had, and that because Rainhowl probably was very obvious that he didn't love Cherry, at least not romantically, and his awkwardness around Bear while she was around, it would be fairly easy for Bear to make the assumption that Rain didn't want anything to do with the family when it was really the opposite and Rain just didn't know how to connect without that romantic pair he imagined was necessary for a "real" family.
Good characters!! I'm excited to see how they interact and maybe reconcile.
And one day maybe Bear will give his dad a talk about how romance actually works haha

I literally had the same exact thoughts. Beartuft not understanding his parents unconventional relationship and interpreting it as Rainhowl never loving him. Cherry probably had to pull him aside and explain the situation, but knowing Bear he was probably still confused by it at the end of the day lol

Rain would love to be pestered by all of Bear's questions, even if he has no romantic experience to draw on. He'd probably give the absolute worst takes but he'd love to be included lmao

I'm experimenting with how I want to put pings into my code; so far it's just an "invisible" 0px font overtop a float but it should work

I love the wine aunt style character. They sound like they can cause some petty drama and I’m all for it! I also agree with Tiri, we do need some older characters so that would be nice. Honorable mention goes to hooligan though, they sound like complete chaos and I love that!

sometimes, but that's where the good, solid bits of character come in since I know how those traits work

more often I blend like, three characters from other works (usually books) to come up with a base, then give them another defining trait that stems from their backstory.

That's a super good way to build characters for novels! And super fitting now that you explain their motives in such a direct way. I should try something more along those lines for my novel plots; my characters always end up not being "motivated" by the plotline and I have to scrap them for another character instead.

I'm always scared to make a plot-focused character in rp tho, since they need to be flexible enough to change with the environment and other people's actions. I feel like I'd stick too hard to my idea of their arc and wouldn't allow for the fun changes

i think a really fun way of figuring out character motives or whatnot when it's hard to come up with some on your own would be to look at and adapt D&D backgrounds. they've already laid out a handful of personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws that could easily be adapted into a character
and just like real life, these can change and morph as your characters experience the rp world and other players that impact/interact with them
i also dont know why i didnt think of this sooner....and it's already fueling my urge for new characters as im looking over backgrounds on the wiki....oops lol sorry not sorry i guess

but Teal, i love the way you walked us through your characters and ideas. every single one of them translates so well and i love reading through your posts for them - and i cant wait to see how all of them grow! (Foxblaze especially lol, i adore her)

i absolutely LOVE D&D! and sootfall is 100% a bard (my favorite site to use for dnd resources is the dnd5e wiki dot - looking under the entertainer background for him could be fun! maybe you'll end up discovering a trait you didnt think to add for him 👀)
im very lucky to have a bf who plays/DMs, i also used to live in a house with 6 other roommates (i know) which made a great way to start campaigns and sessions bc we all lived together
theres also something about the mechanics of it that i really enjoy, i like rules once i understand them lol
the best way to get familiar with it is to watch dnd campaigns or listen to podcasts - i would recommend Dimension 20, some of their seasons are posted for free on Youtube. the world building is very fun and i love watching comedians and comedy writers playing a make believe world and doing dumb magic shit
one day we'll have to set up some kind of forums dnd one shot for anyone who wants to play

and i feel that. i have trouble staying motivated when it comes to replies and keeping up, so im trying to be more proactive in order to keep myself active/involved in this roleplay world.
i hope this time around we'll all able to achieve our character goals!

tbh i struggle reading through posts of scenes that dont involve my characters. not that i dont love to read other scenarios, but i just end up skimming a lot in general. im trying to be better, i dont want to miss on hot drama just because my brain didnt feel like reading a few paragraphs lol
