Lani only glanced up when she heard Cal come in, but that was a reflex and she looked back down at her phone again. She didn't look again when he put his head on the table, nor did she do anything when she heard the things going on around her. She wasn't really doing anything, but she did look up when class actually started. She twirled her pencil between her fingers and simply waited for the teacher to begin talking. She felt a little weird about her skirt, but so long as nobody looked at her for too long, she was fine, and she completely doubted anyone would care. Other than Jake, perhaps, but he was quickly achieving best friend level after all her friends from home so he didn't count.
{I keep forgetting most other schools don't allow phones}

Mine does but my Spanish teacher has a heart attack if god forbid she sees a phone, screen down under your desk)
Sure enough the bell soon rang which made Cal actually sit up and look at least fairly interested in the teacher who'd they all lovingly dubbed Coach Arc, or simply Coach, due to one, being a football coach and two, having some incredibly difficult and weird Italian surname. But then again they went to school in New York so difficult Italian surnames were to be expected. In the front of the room was Coach's desk where the man sat overlooking his mixed grade class, stopping briefly at Lani before going to each of the other kids present. "Well, hello," the teacher began pleasantly, "I know last week was sort of an ice-breaker, welcome-to-my-class week, but that is no longer considering we're jumping right into work now. Which, as some of my older kids - Mr Davenport, Mr Jennings, Miss David - will know, I like to start my first semester off with a project." This earned some groans, especially from the juniors sprinkled in the room, including Cal. "Yeah, well, you chose to take my class," snapped Coach before speeding on. "Anyway, this project will be for whatever you want to do. Must be in the news and follow the topic I give you, must be school appropriate, and has to follow the guidelines I'll give you tomorrow because our printer conveniently decided to run out of ink this morning. Now partners aren't optional," Coach warned. "You're doing this alphabetically. So, Miss Andrews, Miss Barney. Mr Cash, Miss Clements. Miss Coy, Mr Davenport, et cetera. You'll be meeting outside of class mostly for this - don't whine, we go to a boarding school, kids, you have access to each other scarily easy - and this counts for half of your first quarter grade..."
As Coach droned on, Cal was thoroughly upset he couldn't pick his partner - three guys from the swim team had this class, but no, he got stuck with Summer's roommate who he still didn't have a name for. He couldn't help himself from thinking at least it would be fun to mess with Coy as he turned to her and said softly, "Hey, partner. Can't get rid of me that quick, can you?"

Lani let out a resigned sort of sigh, although it could barely be heard, as she realized she would have to deal with Cal. She really hoped this didn't make Summer angry, because she preferred to not be accused of stealing someone's boyfriend. Projects weren't too bad. She liked projects over quizzes and tests because she had time to work on them, or she had time to get her thoughts together and then throw everything together on the day before. She knew the latter wouldn't slide, so she hoped Cal wouldn't be like the popular boys from her last school that made her do all the work. She didn't look at Cal as she responded with, "Looks like it." She still wasn't too good with looking new people in the eye. It wasn't her being uninterested--it was literally just the fact that she blushed every time she did. In her normal nervous gesture, she tucked her hair behind her ear and crossed her legs. She always felt the need to move when she was nervous.

lol seriously don't worry about it, long replies sorta just come out of me sometimes)
Cal didn't mind projects, especially those of the history variety. When Lani didn't even look at him he couldn't help but feel bad in the sense that maybe she was shy, but maybe his cockiness was just getting to him when he pushed that out of his mind to think, She's probably just scared about how her boyfriend will react to competition. He said the word "competition" loosely considering Lani wouldn't even look at him. "I hope Arc gives us politics as a topic," Cal said very suddenly. "It's actually something I want to do. Go into politics as a career, I mean, not do a project about politics." This was true, actually. Cal had always wanted to do something governmental and had settled on politics fairly early in high school. It wasn't something he said much but he felt like he had to prove he was intelligent in some way, and he felt like sharing his hopeful future career path would make him actually sound intelligent.

"Hmm, I know a few things about politics," Lani said, and it was true. She wasn't particularly knowledgeable, but she kept up with the news and had her own things to say about it. There was a reason she was in the class, and that reason was that she was very opinionated and wanted a class where she could put that to use. She knew she would probably have to talk quite a bit, but it was another thing she was trying to do. Obviously, from the way she wasn't able to look at Cal, she wasn't exactly doing well. But she had managed to make a friend in Jake, so that was something. She usually wasn't able to make friends so quickly. It was nice that she had someone to hang out with, especially when Cal was over or when she didn't want to deal with Summer.

Drake Martin | 17 | Senior | Straight| Swim
Drake stands at about 5'8" with shaggy black hair that falls across his pale, silvery-blue eyes and tan skin. If he tilts his head just right, his hair will completely cover his eyes. Drake is happy and go-lucky, always trying to make friends and make sure that everyone loves him. Because of his overly friendly attitude, some girls will take it as him flirting but don't be fooled. Drake is a bit too innocent minded to realize what flirting is. Most of the time, the poor guy acts more like a small child in a candy store (even if he's say, in a library) and tends to be easily distracted and have a million different things going through his mind. His attention span is next to non-existent. Because of his endless energy, he busies himself playing nearly every sport available. Typically, he wears a dark gray hoodie and basketball shorts or somewhat-tight skinny jeans, depending on the weather, usually coupled with a pair of black combat-looking boots. On other days, he can be seen in a flannel and some random grunge rock band t-shirt.
An older brother named Mason who does not attend this school.| None| None| Clique-Floater
Ashton West | 16 | Sophomore | Straight| Swim
Ash, as she prefers to be called because Ashton is a "guy name," stands at about 5'4" with long, wavy blonde hair and dark hazel eyes. She usually wears girly things -- blouses, tank tops, shorts, sometimes skirts and dresses depending on the occasion. Whatever it is that sort-of-girly girls wear. Ash loves to party and loves to date, although she far prefers to just have fun with someone and then move on the next day. She's a little social butterfly, fluttering from person to person and making friends with whoever she can. However, little Ash tends to define her personality as "boring" and try to match the personality of whoever she is hanging out with at the time meaning that, as an individual, she is rather bland.
She has an older brother named Jace, but he goes to a different school.| A nice little ferret named Jeffrey.| None| Popular Female

Melanie sat in class, drumming her pencil on her leg and looking bored as ever. Actually, she looked angry, but that was how she usually looked when she tried to keep her face straight. She seemed to be glaring at everyone around her, but she was really just glancing around. She didn't care for the people around her, only the class, so she didn't mind the fact that most people were avoiding her and that there was an empty seat next to her. She was used to it, so as long as nobody bothered her, she wouldn't do anything. These stupid labels, she thought with a roll of her eyes. She hated them, truly.
{Yeah I didn't know how to start ahaha...}

Caspian yawned and leaned back in his seat. He glanced over at the clock hoping they would get soon. The material as pretty easy so Caspian tuned out the teacher and lets his mind wander. Perhaps something interesting would happen this year.
Jessica was in class and paying close attention to what the teacher was saying. Her notebook was open and pensil was ready to write down anything that sounded important.

((How dare they all just disappear like that! XD I get it. School is stressful, especially with it just beginning.))
((I had to go read her description really quickly to see who would fit better with her. Most definitely my Drake.))
Drake was rather confused about how to get around. It was just simply something that had slipped his mind from previous years, so he found himself rather fidgety as he made his way into class and sat down in an empty seat next to a girl he was fairly certain he had never spoken to, but who looked nice enough. At least, to his innocent, naive self, she looked nice. She looked wonderful. Like the kind of girl he'd love to be friends with. Drake wasted no time as he set his books down, sat down, and looked over at the girl with a wide smile. "Hi, I'm Drake. What's your name?" He asked, all peppy and cheerful and all bits optimistic about this turning into a potential new friendship. He even held his hand out for her to politely shake.

{Hello Hawk!
Oh Drake... honey. (actually Melanie might like him bc cute things but nobody else knows that)}
Melanie turned to him, a little surprised that someone was actually talking to her. She gave him a quick once-over, wary of any suspicious intent, but she found none. He seemed entirely genuine, although she wasn't quite sure. Cautiously, she shook his hand. "Melanie. Nice to meet you?" She phrased it as a question rather than a statement. She was still a little unsure of why this boy was talking to her, but he had such a cheerful look on his face. And hopeful. And she was entirely too weak.

((I figured his cuteness might go over well with her. XD Ash would probably just end up trying to fight her.))
Oh good, she had both shook his hand and said that it was nice to meet him! This was going wonderfully! "It is nice to meet you. You look really nice. I like nice people. But I haven't actually met not-nice people. Are not-nice people real or are they a myth that parents tell to scare children?" Drake thought about it for a moment, and decided that had to be it. People didn't ever seem necessarily too mean, which just made him more hyper and bouncy. His brain was working a hundred miles a minute and to try and keep up with it, his right foot was tapping the ground and his fingers kept playing around with a button on his flannel. "D-Do you want to be my friend?" Drake asked, stuttering in the beginning simply from too much energy.

Melanie raised her eyebrows, and almost laughed. She settled for a little smirk. She didn't know how this boy survived for so long--had he never met the people at this school?--but she decided she liked him. He was like her little sister, or what her sister had been like when she was a child. It wasn't often she was able to find someone like that. It was usually children, and never high schoolers like herself. How refreshing. "You're cute. I'll be your friend." She wasn't about to break his heart by telling him 'no.' She figured it was a good thing that nobody had the heart to be mean to him. But she still glanced around the room to make sure nobody noticed her weakness.

{Ok so I know nobody is online but I need to bounce these ideas off of someone:
1. I really want to see someone serenade someone else. Preferably in a cliche way. Possibly after an argument. Either during a school assembly (my school does a talent show thing), in the quiet of one of their dorms (but just if they aren't arguing), or outside someone's window/door.
2. I absolutely need more romance RPs to the point where I'm tempted to make one on my own. Except idk how many people would join just a normal high school RP, but the only other idea I have is a world where fairy tales (preferably less gory, but still interesting) occur in the same place, and maybe there can be some other medieval romances going on in the background}

((Oh my goodness, that first idea I'd definitely be able to help you with, but I didn't add in my little serenader. XD
I think people would join a normal high school rp. For some reasons, those always end up with a ton of members. Probably because everyone loves romance rps.))
Drake grinned. "Really? Oh boy, that's just grand. This is great! You're my first friend of the new year, Melanie. And don't worry. You won't regret it. I'll be the best friend you could ever have." He had made an absolutely great decision here to sit next to this girl... well, his options were limited when he came in, but it was still a great choice. She was wonderfully nice.

{I just haven't been able to RP with my OCs in like two years and I need to join more romance RPs but I'm picky (mostly with grammar and how many sentences people write) and don't know any good websites}
"I look forward to it." Melanie leaned over to pat his shoulder quickly, but gently. She had a reputation to hold after all, so there was no way she would let just anyone see her being soft. This boy who probably didn't have a clique didn't seem to know that cliques even existed. She hoped it stayed that way. It would be a shame if someone so cute had to deal with the realities of the world.

"So how long have you been going to school here? Do you like it? Do you have a lot of friends? Why haven't I seen you around before?" Drake asked, his mouth moving a million miles a minute as he asked question after question. He was curious. He liked to know these things about people.
