Pronghornstar --
Tealraven
Even amongst the doom and gloom of their former camp, Pronghornstar couldn't stifle the small mrrr of amusement that tickled her throat due to Sagepaw's muffled words. Perhaps things weren't so bad; they had herbs, they had a medicine cat, and that was more than they could ask for in this moment.
With her own bundle of herbs secure in her jaws, Pronghornstar turned and made her way through the rubble once more, checking over her shoulder every so often to make sure Sagepaw remained behind her. She kept her pace steady, faltering only once right before they exited the camp. Unable to help herself, she gave her old home one more look, silently hoping that they could rebuild. "The Clan cannot stay here." Pronghornstar froze in place, ears perking forward and eyes going wide as they looked around for a source of the voice. That hadn't been her own thoughts, that wasn't Sagepaw's voice, either. The brown and white tabby looked around a moment longer, still finding no source of the grim comment. It left her uneasy, but for now she needed to return back to the temporary camp. Her Clan needed healing.
The temporary camp soon came into sight. Pronghornstar was just about to push her way back in when a tail came across her chest, stopping her in her tracks. Before she could question the action, Sagepaw spoke up, asking the leader if she needed any scrapes or bruises or anything else that needed medical attention. She paused, taking the time to put down her bundle of herbs, looking at Sagepaw. No cat had asked her if she needed any help yet, and while she didn't necessarily need it, it felt nice that some cat was looking out for her.
No, she chided herself, you're the one who needs to look after these cats.
With that thought in mind, she shook her head. "Thank you for asking, but I'm fine. StarClan healed my injuries." It was the only indication she had given that she had lost a life, and while she was somewhat sore and stiff from such an experience, she was otherwise fine. Other cats needed Sagepaw's attention much more than she did.
[ do we wanna have these two get an actual message together before going back to the camp or? o: ]

( no worries, dawn! always take care of yourself first <3
I imagined that the "voice" in Sagepaw's head was Mudfeather trying to speak to her. Sagepaw is young enough that I don't think she has a very strong connection with StarClan yet, so Mudfeather might not be able to manifest physically in a vision or dream until Sagepaw's spiritual abilities grow stronger, if that makes sense? So Sagepaw is only able to catch faint whispers from StarClan at the moment. If you want Pronghornstar to have a full-on visit from StarClan in a dream or smth go for it! Maybe they could both talk to each other about it later and Sage could confirm that what Pronghorn saw matches with what Sage has been hearing in her head all day, idk )

»»————- ★ ————-«« Songdapple Camp With Cinderfall (Tealraven ) Songdapple nodded. "Pancake's nice," she meowed awkwardly. "He did help me get home. I would be hopeless if he didn't find me."
Returning to her Clan was worth it, no matter how broken it was. It wouldn't be like this forever, Songdapple knew that, but she couldn't wait until everything was back to normal.
If it ever does go back to normal. Songdapple didn't like the idea of a new normal for PrairieClan, the idea of moving already bothered her, though she knew that they couldn't live here much longer.
"Maybe we have the wrong idea of them," Songdapple added on, trying to continue the conversation.

- - - yooooo what do we want them to see out here? We could come across a displaced outsider if anyone wants to jump in with one, and/or a predator that they have to run from (another reason to leave the territory, if they're starting to be encroached on by badgers or even bigger herbivores, like buffalo, that ruin the territory). We could get spicy and let them see signs of a cougar too. - - - Indigothorn Patrol -- Pancake
It was much nicer to talk on the patrol as their paws wore down that familiar path. Indigothorn found himself nodding along with Pancake's tale, though it went very similarly to how he would have imagined. The loner didn't have much time alone with Songdapple before they'd returned to the Clan, after all, and Indigothorn was there himself for most of that part. Something irked him though; he didn't like that Pancake could just as easily see their weakness --Indigothorn himself didn't like dwelling on that either, though it was impossible to convince himself the Clan could deal with anything more than a rogue rabbit in their current state.
When Pancake mentioned Reednose, Indigothorn surprised himself with a deep laugh, the amusement coming from deep inside the loss. "Of course you know Reednose," he said. "I bet everyone on the prairie knows Reednose." The charismatic tom managed to draw smiles from even the grumpiest of Clanmates; Indigothorn bet Reednose could have seduced a river pebble if he'd put his mind to it. He flicked his ears at the memory, much brighter than their current state, like the pleasant breeze brushing his long fur.
"Reednose and Songdapple." Indigothorn shook his head. "Most the Clan isn't as nice as those two. You were fortunate it wasn't Poppyfrost you'd come across instead." The fiery she-cat would have torn Pancake's tail off before letting an outsider close enough to talk to her. The fact that he had stayed spoke volumes about the loner. Indigothorn wouldn't have put himself out for cats he didn't know, and though he thought Pancake a little foolish for sticking his nose where it didn't belong, he did have to admit that he would have been on patrol alone without his company. On a normal day, Indigothorn wouldn't have felt intimidated walking alone inside their borders, but everything looked different, smelled different, after the storm, which put him on edge no matter how light their conversation was. - - -

- - - ( songdapple and cinderfall is what happens when two introverts try to talk to each other, i assume cx ) - - - CINDERFALL prairieclan temp camp / with songdapple "Perhaps," Cinderfall acknowledged. "Perhaps we judge them too quickly. Or perhaps Pancake is just cut of a different cloth." His neck and bad shoulder had grown stiff again. He set his jaw firmly in place, determined to not let any signs of pain show on his face, and slowly rolled his shoulder, tilting his head to one side to stretch his neck. He bit the inside of his cheek in an effort not to wince. He didn't want to worry Songdapple.
"He seems eager to help," he mused. "I wonder why." Pancake had volunteered to help wherever he could, and when Pronghornstar assigned the loner to a patrol, he had gone along with the sudden change in schedule without comment or complaint. It surprised him that Pancake allowed himself to be ordered around by a total stranger. "I mean, don't loners typically like to be... left alone? I thought they preferred to keep to themselves. He could've left as soon as he brought you back to us, but he didn't."
He eyed Songdapple curiously. He wondered why she, a Clan cat, had let a loner help her. Didn't she have any pride? Any dignity? He then immediately felt guilty for wondering that. It was his instinct to automatically distrust non-Clan cats. It was just -- well, Songdapple had a reputation for being kind and softspoken, but she was also very trusting. Maybe too trusting. Could they trust Pancake simply because she trusted him? Don't be a judgmental mouse-brain, Cinderfall. Pancake has done nothing but be pleasant and helpful since he arrived. Cinderfall lashed his tail, embarrassed with himself, and looked away.
SAGEPAW prairieclan temp camp / with cherrypaw "Sure thing, Pronghornstar!" Sagepaw chirped in agreement. Her voice was light and cheerful, but it had a skeptical edge to it. She understood the implication in her leader's words immediately: Pronghornstar had lost a life. StarClan had indeed healed her physical injuries, brought her back from the brink of death, but even the ancestors couldn't soothe an aching heart. She was now leading a broken clan into an uncertain future with no deputy or medicine cat to support her and counsel with her. It was a burden she bore well, but even so, it had to weigh heavily on her. Sagepaw made a mental note to check in with Pronghornstar later, after attending to the injured, and offer her something for anxiety or stress.
Sagepaw transported her bundle of herbs into the temporary camp. She paused and did a quick scan of the area. Indigothorn and Pancake were gone, but Pancake had seemed perfectly fine, and if Indigothorn was strong enough to go on patrol, he probably didn't need healing. That left Duskbramble, who was currently guarding the temporary camp on Pronghornstar's orders, Cinderfall, Songdapple, Mintpatch, and Cherrypaw. With a pang in her chest, Sagepaw noticed that Hollypaw wasn't among them, nor had her name been called during the morning meeting. Sagepaw swallowed. Maybe she got away. Maybe she escaped the tornado, like Songdapple, or maybe she was already outside of the territory like I was when the disaster hit, and she just hasn't found her way back yet.
Anxiety tightened her chest. Sagepaw had never been an anxious cat. She hoped this feeling was temporary, situational, and not the beginning of a lasting condition. She took another deep breath - in, out - and refocused on Cinderfall.
At first glance, there didn't appear to be anything wrong with him, but she'd seen the way he'd struggled to walk just the short distance to the Clan meeting that morning. Whatever he was suffering from was likely more serious than the other injuries in camp. Sagepaw started toward him, but as she approached, the silvery tom caught her eye and shook his head. Shoo, his eyes seemed to say; there others who need those herbs more than me. Sagepaw scowled at him. No, her eyes seemed to say; You need it more and you know it. Cinderfall shook his head again, more insistently, and waved her away with her tail. Sagepaw rolled her eyes and huffed around her mouthful of herbs. Sometimes that tom is as stubborn as Pronghornstar!
She'd come back to him later. Sagepaw turned and crossed kitty-corner to where she'd last seen Cherrypaw. As a medicine cat, she knew she wasn't supposed to give loved ones special treatment, and she felt a prickle of guilt for choosing to help her brother first as she padded up to him. "Hey, Cherrypaw!" She mewed, setting down her herbs and beginning to sort through them. "How are we feeling today?"

[ any of those options sound really fun, of course if nobody wants to thrown in an outsider, buffalo or cougar is for sure the way to go c; ] Pancake --
Brownie
From the few times that Pancake had run into Reednose he could tell that the black furred tomcat had been full of life and laughter. He had a way with words that could charm even the prickliest of cats, Pancake was sure, and he had seemed like the type that could get any cat to relax a little and enjoy life. Thinking about that, though, brought a pang of pain tightening his chest. It was cruel to think that fate had decided to take such a vibrant personality. Pancake hadn't even been Reednose's Clanmate, yet he still felt a strong sense of loss over him. The loner couldn't imagine how Indigothorn and the rest of his Clanmates felt.
Despite the sorrow, a low laugh managed to come from the cream tabby. "I'm glad I never ran into Poppyfrost then," he chuffed, whiskers twitching with amusement. "I reckon I'd be long gone if I ever came across her." Pancake had never been a fighter. If it had come down to it, he was sure this Poppyfrost character Indigothorn mentioned would have been able to skin him alive unless he was able to outrun her and get lost before her claws ever came into contact with him. He then went off to wonder if she had been another cat lost to the storm. Just how big had the Clan been before all this? Just a day ago they had been thriving, and now they were working with only a small number of cats. Pancake lowered his gaze to the ground.
These thoughts stuck to him like a bur as he continued to walk on. With each step he came across more and more damage, trees and branches blown around, piles and piles of human trash skew about. It was a nightmare to look at, and Pancake could barely imagine how this place had once been a beautiful home for cats like him and Indigothorn.
Wanting to ease these thoughts somewhat, Pancake drew in a breath of air around him. He was met with the bitter tang of human wreckage, but mostly he picked up on the scent of drenched earth. "Have you been able to pick up any prey scent?" He asked his companion. The only signs of prey Pancake had spotted had been broken bodies from the storm, and he doubted any animal would be out in this, but maybe they could get lucky and find something to bring back. The Clan would need food, especially those who were injured.

Pronghornstar --
Tealraven
Losing a life had been...different, to say the least. Death had always been part of Clan life, it was a risk every warrior took with each day. Cats could leave to go on a perfectly normal border patrol only to never return. Hunters could go looking for prey only for them to become prey themselves. Leafbare brought cold temperatures and disease, leaving once healthy warriors ragged with sickness until there was nothing more that could be done for them and StarClan eventually took them. Pronghornstar had seen a number of warriors being brought back to camp lifeless. She had witnessed the vigil and burials of elders. Death was part of life, but even knowing that, having lost a life still came as a shock to the leader.
She remembered something stabbing into her, something crushing against her until it had been hard to breath. She remembered her fur growing warm and sticky, though she had tried telling herself she was wet from the rain that had been pouring down. Then, just as she had tried to gather her voice to call for her Clanmates, it had gone black. She woke up soon after, though not in her camp, and greeted not by a cat who she had seen alive in moons.
Dewstar, the last leader before her, had been there. That was when Pronghornstar knew something had gone wrong, and her worries had been confirmed when the pale gray molly explained to Pronghornstar that she had lost her first life as leader. There she had been healed, the gruesome wound in her side gone, the bones crushed healed. She watched as a pale, ghostly figure of herself, almost invisible, stepped forward to stand beside Dewstar, but before she could ask anything of it, she was jolted back into the chaos of the storm's aftermath.
Now she was here, in a temporary camp trying to put together a puzzle that had thousands of missing pieces. If only I could share extra lives with my Clanmates, she thought somewhat bitterly. If that were possible then Hareleap would be back, Whistlebreeze, Hollypaw, Toadpool, Wheatpaw, all those who were lost...
All the while she had been lost in thought, Sagepaw had left her side and had bounded over to her brother. Pronghornstar knew she needed to join Indigothorn and Pancake like she had promised, but she still had her bundle of herbs, and not knowing what to do with them, she padded toward the two littermates, catching on to the conversation's beginning.
"I'm better," Cherrypaw murmured. It was clear that he still wasn't himself. Pronghornstar had yet to see his typical fire. "I'm alive," he then added tartly, paws shuffling over the ground.
Not wanting to disturb the two littermates and wanting to allow Sagepaw time to tend to her brother, Pronghornstar stood there long enough to set the herbs down. "Here. I figured they'd be better off with you rather than in the middle of camp," she told Sagepaw before dipping her head in dismissal, walking off to give the medicine cat apprentice the space she needed for her patients - besides, Pronghornstar needed to get back to her patrol, if she could even catch up with Indigothorn and Pancake by now.

SAGEPAW prairieclan temp camp / with cherrypaw "Better is good," Sagepaw said conversationally. "Alive is definitely good!" She peered at the orange tom's fur. It was redder than usual, still crusted over with dried blood from the events of the previous day. If only she had cobwebs or moss to clean the wounds. She nosed through her pile of herbs for something that could be spared. Selecting a wide, dark green leaf of dock, she dampened it with dew from the grass and ran it gently along Cherrypaw's side. "Sorry, this might sting a little."
The metallic tang of old blood was strong in her nose. She felt bile rise in her throat. She swallowed and tried to pay attention to the sharp, organic scent of the herbs in her mouth instead. She discarded the leaf and and checked her inventory once more. "Hmm, I need, I need..." She subsided into mutters, talking to herself as she often did when she worked. A shadow fell across them and she glanced up just as Pronghornstar deposited the second bundle of herbs at her feet. In the bundle was the plant she was looking for. "Ah! Perfect! Thanks, Pronghornstar!"
Sagepaw picked up a dandelion, shredded the leaves off it, tossed the stalk aside, and passed the leaves to Cherrypaw. "Here, eat this. It'll help with any pain you might have. I don't have any honey to go with it, so it'll be bitter." She sat back and observed him eat it. Satisfied, she nodded. "Normally, I'd give you poppy seeds, they're great for pain, but, well..." She gave her herbs an accusatory look. What she had wasn't ideal, but it would work. She was grateful Mudfeather had taught her some backup treatments in case they were ever missing the primary materials. She began mixing a poultice to apply to Cherrypaw's wounds. She asked casually, "Did you sleep well?"

He felt small. Sure, he was already on the smaller side for toms his age, but this was different. This made him feel weak, like he couldn't do anything to help. Pronghornstar hadn't even assigned him anything to do. Did she expect him to laze around in this camp all day? Well, it wasn't like he had been doing anything up until now, anyway, other than laze around. Cherrypaw was still drained from the past day's events, and every time he closed his eyes all he could see was the limp body of Hollypaw, crushed with splatters of blood almost hidden beneath her. She was still there, in the old camp, broken and lifeless. She'd never get a burial, Cherrypaw assumed. She was left there to rot, the thought sickening to Cherrypaw, his stomach turning.
Hollypaw was gone. Did Sagepaw even know yet? He had no idea what all she knew. His sister was as lively as ever, though, and that made him feel as if she had no idea about their littermate just yet, unless she was just hiding all her sorrow deep down, which Cherrypaw wouldn't put it past her; Sagepaw was about putting smiles on the faces of others, and being sad wasn't going to get that job done.
The sting of his wounds being clean jolted him out of his thoughts. He inhaled sharply, flinching at the sudden awareness of the pain in his body. "Ow, Sagepaw!" He hissed, tail lashing and claws naturally unsheathing from the sting. Luckily his wounds weren't deep, just enough to have bled for some time.
Despite his fussy reaction to the cleaning, he remained where he was, though still frazzled by the sudden burn that had run up his spine. Taking a breath, he settled himself, leaning downward to give his chest a few licks before turning to lap at the fur along his shoulder. Pronghornstar's approach had him pausing in his quick grooming, though the leader paid him no mind and he paid her no mind. Cherrypaw realized he probably should thank her for what she had done yesterday, saving him from the rubble before he ended up dead like Hollypaw, but that was something for another time. He didn't want to think about Hollypaw being dead right now or the fact that everything he had known was now gone.
The tabby was glad for the chance to keep quiet even longer as he was given herbs to eat. They were bitter, as Sagepaw had warned him, his nose turning up at the taste. "Bleh," he huffed, sticking his tongue out somewhat comically once he had gotten them down. "That was disgusting." Had it been any other cat trying to give him these herbs he would have fought, or at least that's what he typically would have done had he had the energy to do so.
It wasn't until Sagepaw asked him about sleep that Cherrypaw fell sullen. He looked down, paws shuffling across the ground once more. "I..." Every time he fell into a deep slumber all he could see was Hollypaw, dead. He had tossed and turned, mind fixated on torturing him with the image of his now deceased sister. It hadn't been that long since she was still breathing, well and alive, as soft-spoken and gentle as ever. And now... "It was hard," he replied in a ghost of a voice, unable to meet his remaining sister in the eyes as the truth seeped out of him.

- - - Lets do some buffalo! That would be super fun, esp cuz they're dangerous without needing to be a carnivore, which is super cool. Alsooooo I know we've already described Sapphire being in a city (and that our wreckage is metal/oil), but what kind of time period are we going for? We have a really unique situation where we can really pull this rp back in time a bit, esp cuz the cats wouldn't really know any better. But smaller villages instead of cities, no cars, less farms, more wilderness. What do yall think of that? It would be super fun to have them encounter a caravan Oregon-trail style (; And they'd totally vibe with natives esp if they had any previous interaction with settlers. - - - Indigothorn Patrol -- Pancake
"Have you been able to pick up any prey scent?" Pancake asked, prompting Indigothorn to slow down. He'd been so focused on picking out the acrid smells of destruction that he hadn't tuned in to the normal prairie scent. He parted his jaw slightly, pushing air over his tongue to taste the familiar tones that felt more like home.
Grass, wet mud, a few fragrant flowers with so sweet they were almost bitter, a wisp of rabbit so stale he bet it was only droppings, and an almost smoky smell that stumped him until he realized it was Pancake himself. No prey, at least not here. Indigothorn shook his head. "We might find more up ahead," he said. "Even in good times, there's rarely any prey near this border. Anything smart sticks nearer the stream."
Most hunting patrols went straight to the stream, or went the opposite way to the gopher holes where there was always plenty of rodents around, not just the fat gophers and groundhogs that tunneled the earth and made the entire valley crumble under a cat's paws at every step, though those too made for juicy prey. It had been Dewstar that had limited hunting those creatures, for fear that the easy prey would quickly be driven out if they relied too heavily upon them. As an apprentice, Indigothorn hadn't understood why they would resist such a bountiful hunting ground; it was only after the first hungry winter came around and the fat, slow creatures sustained the Clan through the otherwise lean season that he'd admitted that Dewstar's decree had been wise and not foolish.
Maybe the gophers, being underground, fared well in the storm. He'd have to ask Pronghornstar. If they didn't catch anything over here, they'd welcome the easy source of prey. But this wasn't really a hunting patrol, though now that Pancake brought it up, he'd be on the lookout for any scraps they could find. "What's that?" he said, squinting off into the distance, where he'd noticed a dark smudge of something on the grasslands. "Antelope?" The nimble creatures sometimes wandered into PrairieClan's territory, though they never stayed long before moving to greener pastures. - - -

[ buffalo would be a lot of fun! i don't see a lot of sub plots where the danger is from an herbivore o: im down for going back in time with these guys! maybe like the gold rush era or ~wild Wild West~? little earlier, little later??? ] Pancake --
Brownie
It was no surprise that Pancake knew nothing about how the hunting was in Clan territory. All he knew was how to hunt near his den, which was quite a walk from where the two were now. Pancake lived further out from Clan hunting grounds, though it was still within walking distance.
But now wasn’t the time to think about his home. Right now he needed to pay attention to this patrol and what his companion had to say.
He listened, nodding in acknowledgement, taking in everything Indigothorn was telling him. He was glad to have somebody who was willing to put up with his lack of knowledge, and he was even more grateful that the Clan cats had yet to chase him out or give him too terrible of a time while he helped them out. He supposed it was only because they were focusing on rebuilding, but even still, he was grateful for them allowing him to stay.
Then came a question from Indigothorn, piquing Pancake's interest immediately. The cream tom stopped in his tracks, looking out to where the other tom was facing, eyes also squinting as he tried to make sense of the blurry blob in the distance. "Perhaps?" His voice raised in pitch, trying to figure out if there really was an antelope coming near. They weren't uncommon, and they weren't a nuisance. They stuck around long enough to graze for a while before roaming off once more. "Though, doesn't it look a bit bulky to be one?" He asked without taking his eye off the blur. It seemed to be getting closer, and as it did, it was growing larger in size, certainly looking beefier than any antelope Pancake had ever seen.

- - - ( ooh, what a neat idea, brownie! i love that! if they ran into a wagon train during their journey it would be a neat narrative parallel. oh, what if one of the outsiders that joins the clan is a kittypet traveling with its twolegs as part of the caravan? o: ) - - - SAGEPAW prairieclan temp camp / with cherrypaw "Oh?" It took Sagepaw a moment to understand that "it was hard" meant "it was hard to sleep." She'd had no trouble falling asleep. Her body and her brain had been worn out from stress more than anything else. She'd slipped into a deep, dark slumber, devoid of dreams, and stayed asleep through the night. She quietly examined her brother when he wasn't looking at her and discovered dark circles under his eyes. His normally bright amber gaze was dull. She made a small worried noise. "Well, if you can't sleep again tonight, let me know, alright? I can give you an herb that will help you relax."
She scooped up some of the poultice she had made and leaned forward to apply it to the wounds. To her immense relief, Cherrypaw had not been badly injured at all, but even scrapes and scratches could turn life-threatening if infection crept in. She gently slathered the poultice over only the deepest cuts. They were both quiet as she worked. Cherrypaw's head seemed far away, and Sagepaw's own thoughts were consumed with the process of applying the herbs. "It's strange to not be sleeping in the apprentices' den with everyone else, I know," she murmured after awhile. It was hard to believe the two siblings were the only apprentices left.
Sagepaw felt silent again as she thought of her sister. She opened her mouth, about to ask Cherrypaw of Hollypaw's whereabouts, then abruptly changed her mind. She wasn't sure she wanted to hear the answer after all. Speaking of it would only agitate Cherrypaw anyway.
She leaned back and inspected her work. It was a little messy -- the results of young, unpracticed paws -- but that was okay. It didn't need to be pretty to be useful. "There! All patched up." He still wasn't looking at her. She turned her head so that it was nearly upside down to meet his eyes and flashed him a comical grin. "You tell me if you need anything else, 'kay? I have to go help the others now, but I'll come back soon!"

[ oooo i love the idea of a kittypet traveling with a caravan decides to join the clan! that would be really fun ]
Cherrypaw shook his head; already he knew that he’d find it difficult to sleep once night rolled in. No matter how exhausted he might get from the day, he knew his mind wouldn’t let him rest easy. Visions of Hollypaw would flash in his head, and he’d tell himself over and over again how he wished she were still alive, or how he wished they had traded places and that it was his body now laying there in camp forever. His gaze flickered up to Sagepaw. How would she react if he told her what was exactly on his mind? Probably tell him to eat a crap ton of herbs that would leave his throat dry and his tongue feeling brittle; the mere thought of that was enough to cause his nose to wrinkle, his face scrunching up in disgust. The last thing he wanted was more herbs.
For as much as he hated the thought of eating more plants, Cherrypaw couldn’t help but be grateful that he still had at least one littermate left. Sagepaw was all he had now - he didn’t even have a mentor with Turtlejaw having been killed in the tornado. That briefly left him wondering who would take up his training, but Pronghornstar clearly had other things preoccupying her mind right now. The last thing she needed to worry about was Cherrypaw’s mentor. The tom wasn’t all that worried about it, either. The Clan was in shambles, he didn’t have the energy to even want to train, and besides, what other cat in this Clan could handle his temper all the while keeping him on the right track? Turtlejaw had somehow been able to do just that with him. Even on his prickliest days the calico had managed to put up with him, and Cherrypaw wasn’t sure he was willing to give a new mentor a shot.
Again his thoughts were broken by the sting of herbs rubbing into his wounds. He hissed, ears flattening against his cranium. ”At least I don’t have to hear any cat snoring.” He wasn’t going to name any names, but a few of his former fellow apprentices had not been silent sleepers much to Cherrypaw’s disdain. It had always been Hollypaw who calmed the tom’s temper over the noise. Had she not been there to quell the storm inside him then most of their denmates would have suffered from shredded ears.
The more he continued to wonder back to thoughts on Hollypaw, the more he wanted to tell Sagepaw about her death. But each time he tried it was like his tongue swelled up and stopped working. He felt like his sister already knew, but he wanted to know for sure, and he wanted to be the one to tell her, but the words just never came out. Maybe he was scared of shattering Sagepaw’s hope, or perhaps he was just afraid that if he told her, then she’d be angry at him for not being able to save their sister. He knew that fear was irrational, Sagepaw would never be angry at him, but Cherrypaw felt his body stiffen with anxiety. Had he been quick enough to pull Hollypaw out of the way from the falling debris then she would have been okay, but he had been too slow, and now she was gone. Dead. Never to live out her dream and become a warrior. Never to one day find a mate and settle down with a litter of kits. That had been her goal, to finish her training and then eventually become a mother. That would never happen now. The tornado had taken that from her.
Suddenly he was looking Sagepaw straight in the eyes, her gaze and large smile snapping her out of his thoughts. He jumped back, startled, but soon poised himself, giving just enough of an effort to huff toward his sister and give her a gentle bop over the ears. ”Yeah, go on and treat the others. They needed it more than I did anyway,” he told her. He knew his words were true, there were cats like Cinderfall and Songdapple who needed treatment more than he did, but that didn’t stop him from feeling grateful that Sagepaw had checked in on him first.

»»————- ★ ————-«« Songdapple Camp With Cinderfall (Tealraven ) "He said he knew Reednose," Songdapple meowed. She wasn't sure if this was relevant to the conversation, but maybe it was of help.
Songdapple knew the Clan was on edge about Pancake, surely some of them were warming up to him. Songdapple may have been quick to trust him due to him being the only help she had, Cinderfall was an example of Clan cats not being quick to trust outsiders, but right now, the outsiders could be their only hope.
"Outsiders are used to living outside of the Clan territory, we could learn from them, adapt," the tortoiseshell meowed. She knew that she was spitting nonsense. (Really late reply? Really late reply.)

- - - ( sorry for the crappy post. words are hard today, apparently. ) - - - CINDERFALL prairieclan temp camp / with songdapple "Reednose," Cinderfall grunted. "So Pancake has met Clan cats before. Probably ran into them on a border patrol. I suppose that would explain why he seems so familiar with us?" It was a rhetorical question. Cinderfall was growing tired of this conversation; it was taking more effort than he usually cared to put into talking to other cats. He tried to be friendly, but he seemed unable to coax more than a few sentences from Songdapple at a time. Is this what it's like to talk to me? He wanted to help, wanted to comfort, but he was just too clumsy at it to be of any use. He was better at serving his Clan in other ways, like hunting and fighting and protecting its borders -- none of which he could do now. His eyes darkened. Maybe it's just me, then.
"Hm." He made a noncommittal noise in response to Songdapple's comment. She was right, of course, he knew that. He just didn't want to admit it. There was an entire world outside their borders known only to rogues and loners. The land beyond the prairie was foreign, unknowable, dangerous. As soon as the Clan stepped over that invisible line they would be well out of their element. But Pancake wouldn't; he'd be right at home in place where even the fiercest Clan cats would be lost. He was an asset. For now.
"Oh, look, it's Sagepaw," Cinderfall said suddenly, eager to change the subject.
SAGEPAW prairieclan temp camp / with songdapple & cinderfall Sagepaw assessed the makeshift camp once more. Cinderfall and Songdapple appeared to be the most grievously injured and the most in need of medical attention. She couldn't put off treating them any longer. She also needed to check in with Mintpatch to see if she still had any fever. Elderly cats tended to take a longer time to recover from wounds or illness. She would see to Duskbramble after that. She nodded to herself, feeling efficient.
She struggled to fit both bundles of herbs into her mouth and trotted over to where the two warriors had been quietly conversing. She dropped the herbs on the grass, wrinkled her nose, and spat out a leaf that had stubbornly stuck to her tongue. She turned glittering grey-green eyes on the tortoiseshell molly. "Hello, Songdapple!" She flicked her gaze over the warrior's body and found that some of her wounds had already been patched. She raised her eyebrows in surprise. "Did Pancake do this? Not bad!" The loner had done a decent job of layering cobwebs over the wounds, but she could tell it had been hastily applied, a temporary solution. Still, it was comforting to know there was another cat who had some knowledge of healing among them.
Sagepaw unwrapped the herb bundles and picked through the leaves with a dexterous claw. Those cobwebs needed to be replaced with clean, fresh dressings. "How are you feeling today?" She inquired without looking up. "Anything I can help with?"

»»————- ★ ————-«« Songdapple Camp With Cinderfall and Sagepaw (Tealraven ) Songdapple nodded. "I'm pretty sure that's what he said," the tortoiseshell molly replied, the wound in her leg still hurt, even moreso after the journey back to the camp.
Songdapple saw Sagepaw approaching them. Songdapple sighed in relief at the sight of the young medicine cat apprentice.
Sagepaw had gone straight to noticing the wound, very medicine cat of her. Sagepaw had started tending to her wounds and asking her questions.
"Yeah, Pancake helped me with my wound," she meowed, remembering how helpful and kind the tom had been to her. "That was a while ago though," Sagepaw had continued to tend to the wounds, Songdapple felt a rush of admiration for the young medicine cat apprentice, she had a lot to do before she was ready to become a full healer. Songdapple paused. "I mean, not really, I'm pretty good aside from my wound," she meowed, turning to Cinderfall. "You?" (Don't worry about it. Sometimes words don't come as naturally as other days)

- - - ( boring, longish post because i forgot to account for the fact that i had to write sagepaw treating cinderfall whoops ) - - - CINDERFALL prairieclan temp camp / with songdapple & sagepaw Cinderfall watched Sagepaw tend to Songdapple with mild interest. She moved deftly, eyebrows knit in concentration, her unsteady paws and the hesitance with which she picked through the herbs the only hints of her inexperience. In two moons she already knew more about healing than most cats would learn in their entire lifetime. Would that be the extent of her education, then? Is that all she would ever learn? What would happen if she encountered something she didn't know how to treat because she'd never been taught? Two moons didn't seem long at all.
He wished he could help her.
Cinderfall shifted his gaze away from Songdapple's questioning look. "Oh, I'm -- I'm alright." He replied airily, flicking his tail. He'd shrug if he could. "Shoulder's been troubling me a bit, but I'll be fine." It was a vast understatement. Perhaps if he said it aloud enough times it would become true. Power of suggestion and all that. He studied his paws as the medicine cat apprentice padded over to him. His fur was uncomfortably warm. He wasn't quite ready to have his weaknesses revealed in front of his Clanmate.
SAGEPAW prairieclan temp camp / with songdapple & cinderfall Sagepaw had always liked Songdapple; she appreciated how kind and open-minded the tortoiseshell was. She cleaned the wound on Songdapple's leg and applied a fresh poultice. She handed the molly the same dandelion leaves she'd given her brother with instructions to take them for pain as needed. "How lucky you were to come across him, then! Maybe Pancake knows a few things that I don't," she commented. The loner had likely picked up a few things about healing from surviving on his own in the wild. Exchanging remedies with him might be a worthwhile endeavor. "Send him my way next time you see him, won't you? And come find me if that leg gives you any more trouble!"
Sagepaw rolled her bundles of herbs over to the silvery-grey warrior, who was sitting a polite distance away from them, refusing to look her in the eye. She waved her tail in front his face to get his attention and he turned startlingly blue eyes on her. He was quite a bit taller than she. Her fur prickled nervously. Cinderfall was very good at looking intimidating, but she knew that the tom's prickly exterior hid a gentle soul. She tried to remember his unwavering devotion to his Clanmates, how patient he'd always been with his hot-headed apprentice, the wry humor that occasionally bubbled to the surface when he was in a good mood. But it was rather difficult to think about those things when his cool gaze pinned her to the ground like a skewered moth.
"Hey, serious-face," she mewed. She rifled through her arsenal of greens, clicking her tongue. "Can you please demonstrate the range of motion of this shoulder of yours?" She watched him out of the corner of her eye. There was a pause. The warrior struggled to raise his front left foreleg; it did not extend very far. He wavered a bit, unbalanced, before lightly setting his paw back down. The skin around his eyes tightened as he tried to hide his pain. Sagepaw pursed her lips. Shoulder injury -- dislocated, or just broken? Sprained neck. Cuts along left side from impact. Something heavy hit him. "Do you remember how you were hurt?"
A shadow crept into Cinderfall's eyes. "I think... I think something hit me. Something big and hard. When the tornado tore through the camp, the force of its winds picked up heavy objects and flung them around, striking down everything in its path."
Sagepaw nodded. Blunt force trauma; that'd do it. She suspected the shoulder was broken, which fell outside of her range of expertise, which was concerning. Mudfeather had shown her how to set and splint a broken bone only once, and it had been a leg injury. She had no idea how to begin treating a joint injury. Hmm. Maybe something for arthritis? Something to take the swelling down? Oh, I wish I had some heavier painkillers... She plucked out an herb with anti-inflammatory properties and passed it to him.
Unable to reach his shoulder, she beckoned him forward. "Here, bend down here." She stamped one foot petulantly. "Ugh, why are you so tall?"
"Why are you so short?" Cinderfall replied pleasantly. Sagepaw made an indignant noise at him. But he stooped down anyway, allowing her to set the shoulder and treat the cuts along his side. Sagepaw told him to lay low for a few days -- his eyes narrowed with displeasure -- and keep his shoulder still to allow it to heal. She also gave him a few stretches to do whenever the shoulder or his neck started to get stiff. Finally, she prescribed him an herb to take for the pain.
"And be sure to come see me if it gets worse, and we'll figure out a different treatment plan," she told both Cinderfall and Songdapple, though she was pretty sure Cinderfall wouldn't ask for help even if he was missing an arm and a leg and his tail was falling off. She fixed the two warriors with as stern a look as she could muster. "Now, unless there's anything else you guys need...?"

»»————- ★ ————-«« Songdapple Camp With Cinderfall and Sagepaw (Tealraven ) "I don't think we need anything else," Songdapple meowed. She was pretty much fine and Cinderfall looked okay. The tortoiseshell molly paused. "You can leave if there's anyone else to tend for," she added on. "If you don't, it'd be my pleasure to have you stay for a while."
Songdapple gave the young healer a quick smile. She was trying to push herself to talk more. Ever since the tornado, she had been the definition of an introvert. Talking used to love talking, that was when her friends were still alive, that is. Sagepaw seemed like an interesting young cat, nice to strike up a conversation with. Songdapple remembered the days she was an apprentice fondly. ( Slow replies let's go :') )
