"Oh, I feel it. I've had problems with feeling like someone is mad at me and then when I ask, that unfortunately just makes them even angrier. People have to come to you about their emotions on their own terms, but gee if it isn't anxiety-inducing when they decide to make you wait."
I've never felt a statement more than that. It's sad how that happens, it's like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Ive just started entirely avoiding people who refuse to tell me what I did wrong or act aggressive. With or without neurodivergence, treating someone like that and acting indignant or giving the cold shoulder is just immature and I do not have the time in my life to waste on those types of people trying to micromanage their emotions for them.
If someone tells me what I did wrong, I will absolutely fix the problem and find a solution. If they don't they can bite my shiny metal ass.

typically i'd agree with you, leap, but fortunately this is the one and only time this particular person has done something like that. this person is usually very patient and understanding. i'm willing to forgive one little slip-up.
i do wish it was more socially acceptable to be blunt, tho. i would much rather someone tell me if i'm doing something wrong than insinuate it and hope i get the message!

I get it if it's a slip up. If it were one of my friends I'd definitely be more forgiving, but at the same time I probably wouldn't hesitate to call them out on it and ask if we could talk about it later when they've calmed down.
Agree on the socially acceptable to be blunt thing. I think that's why I keep coming across as the jerk so much these days. I've stopped trying to mask how I think and feel for the sake of being polite. I still try my best not to be the asshole and simply get my message across as neutral as possible but a lot of people mistake being neutral for being aggressive. And I'm not sure why.

hail, traveler! what's minty working on today? Thinking about this very badly done history book and how I can't wait to just ... write an essay about John Dee and have my professor know nooooooothing about who he is. So she can't be ... really strange and historical inaccurate about this time period, as I'll have no connection to what's actually being taught. :3 Or, alternatively, I'm working on trying to learn Czech and struggling.

mintedstar/furHow's learning Czech going? Learning new languages is fun! Also, speaking of, how's learning German going? I hope you're having fun learning both of these languages.

I was just talking about learning Czech today. It's super trippy. In German I can read Warriors now and understand the plot and dialogue ... in Czech I know the different forms of the word 'good' and that is it. XD There are also not as many resources for learning it as I'd like! Particularly not many that are good for my learning. German is going very well though. I'm considering retracing my 'learning English' steps even more. I learned to read with Warriors and now I'm learning to read German with Warriors. Now I'm curious if I should try to learn to write German by writing fan fictions too. XD Not that there's anyone around to correct me (unless for some reason one of our 5 German users takes pity on me), but back in ye-olde-writing-Warriors days, there was no one on the WFF to proof my English fics either and it still helped. So might give it a shot!

Re: Socially acceptable to be blunt.
I literally just had some random get super aggro and accuse me of being hostile among other things when I responded to their medical question they asked me with. "I'm not a doctor. 🤷"
Like that was literally the most neutral-toned thing I could have possibly said and I'm the jerk.
????????????? Bruh.

mintedstar/fur that's really cool! what inspired you to learn czech? Leapkit I don't see a problem with that statement. Perhaps it was the way you said it that made the other person upset? Like, maybe it sounded harsh or snarky and it prompted them to respond in kind? When I was much younger I used to get accused of "talking back" when I thought I was just making a statement. (except I didn't know that until my mom explained it to me, of course, because the adults I spoke to never bothered to tell me that I was "talking back;" they just got annoyed with me. helpful.) I'm learning that I need to pay more attention to my tone of voice when speaking. It's not something I really think about, but it makes a huge difference when it comes to how people interpret your words. Sometimes I feel as though tone is more important than what I'm actually saying. Which is frustrating, but there's not much I can do about it.

Well that sucks. Those kinds of exchanges are the reason I prefer conversing in-person over text. See I'm the opposite, I prefer text because I can express myself better and more fluidly or when all else fails use tone tags. Like I don't understand how my "neutral" tone verabally ALWAYS comes across as aggressive.
I guess I have resting bitch voice, but I can't do anything about that. That's literally just my voice.

It would be a lot easier if more people used tone tags, that's for sure. It helps me a lot in text-based discussions.
I've actually made a few blunders in video games from incorrectly interpreting a dialogue option lmao. If only I could reload and redo conversations irl!

mintedstar/fur Czech is apparently one of the harder languages for native English speakers to learn. we really like our consonant clusters and accented letters lol I wish I had a program to recommend, but i've only tried duolingo czech for funsies, and while i'd say it's decent for practice, it's really not that good for teaching grammar. But like if u have any questions feel free to shoot them my way, I'm tryna be a little more active on the forums/discord again

Tealraven My inspiration is going to the Czechia in less than 5 months and I wanna at least have survival level. Mostly because I feel it's respectful to at least know a bit of the native language and not make it all about the locals to accommodate me. Also language learning is cool. :3 *Ɗαɾƙρσσℓ*I am learning this, yes. XD The pronunciation is a struggle, but the more exposure I have the better I'm at taking a stab at how things sound. I probably sound nonsensical when trying to say anything, but I'll keep at it. And yeah, I'm doing Duolingo for now. Duolingo seems to have the rep of being good for vocabulary and reaaaaally base basics, but that's where I'm at right now so I'll take it. Once I get passed that, I have some textbooks to try out? I don't know, there aren't a lot of resources. So I'm likely going to come to you at some point, heh heh.

Really? That's amazing! I remember you being pretty bummed about not getting to go to Germany, so I hope everything works out for you this time! You are so lucky o: Is this a study-abroad thing or just for fun?
I know some very basic French from the disasterous two years of language class I took in high school. I felt like I didn't learn anything, but sometimes I surprise myself with how much I remember. I'm thinking about learning Spanish next (which is what I should have done in the first place aslkdfjk) because it will be far more useful to me than French.

Study abroad again! All my money and even the flight got hurriedly shuffled around (lost waaaay too much in insurance and that pisses me off. :/ ) But it got shuffled around to Czech Republic and that means I'm off to there instead to also tick off one of my required courses. In this case Great Czech Writers! The new travel date is June 24th! So I'm back to counting down the days, heh. Still working on German furiously and trying to build up my skills, but now I'm working on Czech as well. All my fingers are crossed.
I was told a whole lot to learn Spanish, but truly my heart has always been owned by German, if any language actually is going to hold my interest. I've wanted to learn it since I was 13. Now that drive has just gotten worse, heh heh. Spanish would be useful, but I always like to encourage others to learn a language they have a drive and motivation for. It'll make the process easier. And all languages will make you more marketable in some form or fashion. I do wish your Spanish learning endeavors well though! I hear that it is easier to learn than French, from an English perspective, of course.

Super late reply? Super late reply. cx
That's great! Not so great losing on insurance, of course, but pretty cool that you still get to go somewhere. I would love to hear about your experience if you feel like sharing when the time comes! I know little about what studying abroad entails. Sounds fun, tho
What about German captures your interest?

Oh, when I go, y'all are getting, like, day-to-day updates or something. XD It'll be fun. I just signed up for Intro to Czech today/yesterday and now I just need to get a green light for it.
And I don't know. It'd been a combination of things. At the beginning, it was just random continuation of my Warriors special interest, since the Warriors community is the only one I know with a full on alt site + roleplay board. Much like ours, they had a complete rehaul a while back, but unlike ours didn't lose their forums. (Much. It got simplified down to the RP boards and one chat board, by the looks of it.) Anyway, there was that. Them there was the WW2 special interest. And then in 2020 the Vampirony interest, which is made by my very good friend and she's a native German. So it's kinda all of those things. I'm caught between old, long running special interest, a dormant special interest, and a new baby special interest. XD
But if we're talking things I put on scholarship essays, my family is from there. XD

Hmm. I see “Another Minty Thread: Czech Edition” in our future. xD
It’s so interesting that a number of us seem to have overlapping interests in WW2 history! Speaking of which, I indirectly fed my special interest today by obsessively researching and sketching early 40s clothing for my ocs.
I also found out that the US Navy apparently converted a barge into a floating ice cream factory to serve ice cream to the soldiers overseas. It could hold up to 2000 gallons of ice cream. A Japanese officer supposedly said that he knew the war was over when the Japanese were starving while the Americans had enough resources to commission entire ice cream barges. So. Fun fact of the day! cx

Yesterday I watched a guy play some video games in German, with commentary. He was very wholesome and it was very fun.

My hyperfixations are currently. Pokemon legends Arceus, The Dark lord of Derkholm books, My library, and my revamped adoption center rp on here.
