Role-Play Board Planning Page (poll expired)

     I certainly have a few ideas for some new Clans. While the poll hasn't ended yet, I appreciate those who voted and those who have offered to help. I assure you the planning page won't consist of "well, what do we do?" We'll make a lot of progress and come up with some interesting ideas!

     I can understand that and it's a valid concern. While I'm certain there will be a Clan that has the least amount of members, we can compensate with plots and other ideas to entice forum members to join. I have suggested a few ideas to Sand on how we can prevent a Clan from falling too inactive.

     If we do new Clans, which is certainly winning but things can change, we will only do the amount of Clans that we have people for. I personally think four Clans is more doable for the canon Clans, but otherwise I prefer three at max. Worst comes to worst for a Clan falling inactive is that we have to replace the head honcho for that Clan or do away entirely.

     This is an unfortunate thing, but opens up an opportunity to explore plots not commonly explored. That in of itself can help with members for those Clans being active. I'm concerned with the manpower behind it, so active staff. Some Clans had a consistent flow of new members, but with the staff of those Clans becoming too busy, it got difficult.

     Yess, I am good with this being a planning page. Should we come up with a list of things to discuss and do such in that order?

         Territory
     ● Overall location
     ● Gathering & Moonstone/Moonpool locations
     ● Individual Clan territory
     ● Map? (I can use Inkarnate for this.)

         Characteristics
     ● Physical (Hunting style, maybe vague guidelines on appearance)
     ● Clan character
     ● Prey & Predators
     ● traditions (shared & individual)

         Naming the Clans!

     As far as I know, we'll be reusing the old rules and layouts. I will be working on adding to/updating the artwork.

         Rain's Idea for Territory
     One thing I want to avoid is extreme territory ideas, so avoiding deserts and the arctic would be my preference. I want to keep to the overall temperate deciduous idea because those tend to go along well. Clans in different settings are interesting, but the initial interest dies fast and the unique flavor it brings gets tiring for some. Of course, there are exceptions, but for a forum-wide role-play, I want to avoid running the risk of the uniqueness being one-and-done. These are basic ideas I had in my drafts for this.

         Coastal Territory
     Best of both worlds for those that love mountains with temperate deciduous forest and the beachy vibes during the summer. Somewhat tropical names and mountain names can easily be used. (Think Sharkfin or maybe even Dolphinsplash!) However, I want to avoid super tropical ideas, as they are only really popular during summer.

     Clan One takes the area close to the cove, where there are many streams and falls. Clan Two lives on the semi-open mountains, where they must climb to sometimes catch their food. Clan Three lives in the forest that divides Clan One and Clan Two, except for a small bit where they meet for Gatherings. The Gathering place is a small waterfall where the gushing rapids are peculiarly quieter. The leaders sit upon the ledges jutting out from the falls. The medicine cats speak with StarClan at the Starlit Cavern is essentially a hole in the ground with smooth rock. Water trickles down from the cracks in the roof and fills pools of water. The cavern is lit by the light coming from the hole, but only truly shines in the day or when the moon is full and bright. The Clans speak with their ancestors from this cavern and it's reported that the many echoes inside are their ancestors' voices.

     If we desire a twolegplace-like thing, we could have a dock at the beach. A few little homes rest there, so we have kittypets. The Clans would only hunt on the beach if they especially need food. Crabs are hard to find, birds can easily see you, and the fish are hard to catch with the risk of being whisked away to the ocean. (Clan One wouldn't hunt in the cove waters for this reason.)

         River Valley Territory
     If the coastal territory doesn't interest you, then perhaps a river valley. More traditional, the river valley could consist of mountain territory, forest territory, waterway-cut territory, marshes, and moors. Only concern with this, is that we could be too close to canon despite our ideas and I remember one complaint about Clans is that they are always forest.

     We could have a Clan take two territory characteristics, as we have enough. An interesting combo would be moors and marshes for one Clan.

     If someone really wants a canon-Clan inspired territory, this would be the best option. However, I think we should avoid too much inspiration from the books. I think the place where the medicine cats talk to StarClan could be up the valley a bit. It would be a more treacherous path, and probably the same amount of time to travel as Highstones. Inside, I think a pool of water that gushes into a waterfall would be fitting. The path up could be well-worn from the past treks here.

     While we used a stone idea landmark already, perhaps a ravine with a tree overhanging could serve as a neat gathering place. Perhaps it's settled on open land, so the cats can somewhat see each other coming?

     We could discuss a little more and then put a short poll?

     Perhaps the more watery Clan could do that, Cyn? It would depend on territory and I see them have more shells than the others. As the beach could be a potential twoleg area.
