Nice seeing you there for like 10 seconds Darktail :skull:
I wish he'd gone to the rouge afterlife or something. There was honestly no point in bringing him back.

Chapter 10: Rootspring is still in prison. Rushtooth, Mapleshade, Darkstripe and Silverhawk are guarding him. Darkstripe tells Silverhawk to move from a patch of smooth earth so that he can sit in it instead. Silverhawk eyes him resentfully and moves. Rootspring knows there is no way he can take on 4 cats. He asks his voice for any ideas. The voice says that they are working on it. Rootspring asks why he should trust them, they say he should because they are trying to help him. They tell him to get Darkstripe’s attention as this is his best chance. Rootspring tells Darkstripe he needs to speak with him and the voice tells him to tell Darkstripe (which he does): “Are you happy being Ashfur’s lackey?” Darkstripe rejects being a lackey. The voice tells him to reply: “Really? First Tigerstar, now Ashfur. Following orders is what got you killed. Aren’t you ever going to stand up for yourself?” Darkstripe asks him what he could possibly know about it and how he can know about Tigerstar. Repeating the voice’s words, Rootspring tells him that Ashfur is just as evil as Tigerstar was and cares even less about what happens to cats who fight for him. He tells Darkstripe that he once said that every cat in the forest could turn into crow-food for all he cared. Darkstripe looks stunned and claims he never said that to Rootspring. Rootspring ignores him and asks him why he is following a fox-heart like Ashfur. Darkstripe tells him Ashfur is a means to an end and that he will be alive again and then wont care what happens to Ashfur or any cat.
Darkstripe suddenly freezes and asks Rootspring in horror what is happening to his eyes and if it’s a trick. He shows the other Dark Forest cats his eyes. Rootspring doesn’t know what he is talking about. He asks the voice what is happening, who tells him to keep going. Directed by the voice, Rootspring says that if Darkstripe follows Ashfur he will never have a chance to live. The voice warns him there is going to be a fight as Darkstripe’s fear turns to fury. He tells Roospring to let him take his body as he has been a warrior for longer than him. Rootspring wonders if this is just a trick to let Ashfur take over is body and asks him if he is lying. The voice asks him why he would lie to the cat who saved his daughter and her mate. Rootspring asks him if he is Firestar, which the voice confirms. Firestar promises that he will make sure no harm comes to him and wants to save him. Rootspring agrees for him to do so for a little while.
Firestar gets used to Rootspring’s body and greets the Dark Forest cats each by name. He notes he has met Rushtooth in the Dark Forest before. He asks them why they are following Ashfur as they must know by now that he doesn’t care about them. Darkstripe replies by saying who cares as they will be safe in living bodies. Firestar blinks at him and reflects that he knew Darkstripe was not a fool. Darkstripe tells him that Ashfur proved it by taking over Bramblestar’s body. Firestar reminds him that he slipped into a leaders body between lives and not every cat can do that. Mapleshade excitedly tells him that Ashfur needs them to punish the Clans first and she is okay with that as Ashfur’s vengeance will be her vengeance. Firestar asks her why she would want to live among the Clans if she hates them so much. Darkstripe tells him to shut up.
Firestar doesn’t flinch and tells them to let the young warrior go. Darkstripe frowns and asks him which young warrior. Firestar replies with “Rootspring”. Darkstripe protests, “But you’re Rootspring”. Mapleshade tells Firestar to stop tricking them. Firestar warns her than if they don’t let Rootspring go, they will have to face the living cats and StarClan. Mapleshade sneers that Ashfur will destroy StarClan with their help. Firestar tells her that they will only destroy themselves and that Ashfur is a liar and to let Rootspring go. Darkstripe says, “What do you mean, let him go? If you’re not Rootspring, who are you?” Firestar says, “Haven’t you guessed”. Darkstripe stares at him and slits his eyes in disgust, asking what Firestar is doing there as he is a kittypet. He taunts him by asking him if even dead, he still cant stop himself from meddling in other cats’ affairs. Firestar says its because he protects the Clans and always will.
Darkstripe says that since he took Tigerstar from them he will destroy him once and for all. Firestar attacks him first with a yowl. He easily lands blows on Darkstripe and excitedly thinks this is too easy. He stops and invites Darkstripe to attack him. Darkstripe anticipates Firestar’s duck and overpowers him, causing Firestar to panic. He remembers he promised to protect Rootspring and recovers, leaping on top of Darkstripe, who says he would rather be destroyed than surrender to Firestar. Firestar notes that Darkstripe wont stop until he has killed him and if he goes, so does Rootspring. Sickeningly, he knows what he has to do and shudders, but a true warrior would do what has to be done. He tells Darkstripe he will suffer the same fate as Tigerstar and sinks his teeth into Darkstripe’s neck, snapping it and killing him, his body fading into the gloom. When he looks around, Mapleshade is already gone. Rushtooth flees saying he wants nothing to do with this. Silverhawk asks Firestar if its true that Ashfur has been lying to them. Firestar tells him that the Dark Forest will disappear if Ashfur has his way. He asks Silverhawk to join him. He makes Silverhawk swear that he wont harm Rootspring when Firestar leaves his body. Silverhawk swears on Emberdawn’s spirit. Silverhawk says she was his mate and died. Firestar does not remember seeing her in StarClan and by the sound of it wasn’t here in the Dark Forest and wonders if she has anything to do with Silverhawk’s presence in the Dark Forest. He leaves Rootspring’s body
Rootspring asks where Darkstripe is, Silverhawk says Firestar killed him. Silverhawk tells him he has agreed to help defeat Ashfur. Rootspring says that they will first find Bristlefrost.
Darkstripe's death! Cant believe I forgot to post this!

Aw, Violetshine. She and Needletail were definitely the ones who deserved to kill Darktail, so I'm glad for that. I feel really bad for Juniperclaw, though. They accepted help from the other DF cats, so why not Juniperclaw? True I didn't like him in life, but it still made me sad how they treated him.

Chapter 18: Bristlefrost ducks a blow from a rogue and counterattacks. After a lot of battle moves from both sides, Bristlefrost emerges on top and sees Ashfur grabbing Shadowsight by the scruff, hauling him towards the dark water. She finishes her fight, biting down on the rogue’s neck, causing him to jerk and fall limp (dead idk). She hares towards Shadowsight. Antfur and later another tom block her path but she throws off both of them. She yowls at Ashfur to let Shadowsight go. She bats more rogues out of the way and barges past the fighting cats before Thistleclaw knocks her down. She bites down on his foreleg, loosening his grip, but then Mapleshade slashes at and eventually lands on her back and presses her muzzle into the earth, Thistleclaw helping her. Violetshine and Rootspring throw off her attackers, Mapleshade heading back to the middle of the clearing and Rootspring overtaking Thistleclaw.
She sees Ashfur standing over Shadowsight at the edge of the water. She knows she has to stop Ashfur. She knew him better than any Clan cat with the exception of Shadowsight and knew how dangerous he was. She knows there is no time to second-guess and has to move know. She gives Rootspring an apologetic look as his eyes flash with alarm, thinking she has no choice. She spins and races for Shadowsight, Rootspring yowling her to wait in desperation.
She reaches Shadowsight, pushing her hind paws in the earth harder than ever before and lunges at Ashfur, crashing into him. As he collapses, she tumbles over him and Shadowsight and sees the dark water: there is no way to avoid it.
She hits the water like breaking through ice. She sinks, she tells herself to fight, knowing she should kick and thrash against the freezing blackness. She reaches for Rootspring’s thoughts and tries to see his sky-blue eyes and wishes she could hold onto him.
She feels movement beside her and sees someone flailing a tail-length away. At first, in panic, she thinks its Shadowsight, and wonders if she sacrificed herself for nothing. She strikes out, ready to fight as she will save him no matter what. But when she looks at their face, she realizes it is Ashfur who is thrashing his paws fighting to get to the surface.
She refuses to let him escape the water and lunges, taking two clawfuls of his fur and letting her weight sink into her hindquarters, turning her body to the side and pushing him away with all her strength. She watches him sink toward the darkness below. His face is clear with terror and his eyes round in disbelief. Bristlefrost feels triumphant as they finally made Ashfur scared. He disappears. Gone. It is all over. She has accomplished what she always wanted to – saving her Clan, all the Clans.
She sees that the surface is very far away now and her struggle with Ashfur dragged her body to the depths of the water. She feels the last of her strength ebbing out of the gash in her neck. The surface and living Clans are out of her reach.
She tells herself it is time to rest, relaxing her body. The dark water no longer scaring her, rather feeling warm and soothing. She looks up at the surface and thinks she sees Violetshine and Rootspring peering in. Her heart aches with love and tries to reach a paw to him, but only grips water. She is in grief that Rootspring would have to live the rest of his life without her despite loving her.
Thoughts of Rootspring fill her mind, pressing beside her beneath a spreading willow, the warmth of her in her fur. She isn’t sure if it is a dream or memory. She sees them hunting, running in the forest side by side, pelts touching. She sees herself cocooned in a nest with him, gazing proudly at 3 healthy kits. She tells herself that of course it was real – these were memories of the lives they must have shared.
The cold that gripped her seems to let her go and closes her eyes, feeling only warmth and love in her last moments…

I wouldn't mind Bristlefrost dying as much if she had 1) been a spy for longer and with more intensity, and 2) faced real consequences for being a spy for Ashfur. If Bristlefrost was still seen by everyone as a traitor, as someone willing to do Ashfur's dirty work, then her laying her life down to kill him would have more weight. Her dying would be a natural conclusion to her arc.
But as it stands, her sacrifice just feels very... out of nowhere? And since most of the StarClan forces left the battlefield before making sure that Ashfur was dead, her death was completely avoidable. Bristlefrost's actual death in the dark water is written fairly well, but everything leading up to it is unbelievably poorly written.

The wording of Bristlefrost’s death is interesting... Memories of the life they shared. Is that implying that there are soulmates in warriors and that each spirit lives multiple lives, and are later reborn with a new personality etc. Interesting concept if that is the case, but poor Rootspring for losing his soulmate Would also explain how Rootspring was able to know what she was going to do.

I know her second death was her sacrificing herself to destroy Ashfur.

Bristlefrost's Death Scene: Although I do genuinely wish Squirrelflight and/or Bramblestar were the ones to end Ashfur for good, Bristlefrost doing it at least makes some sense. She was manipulated by him and had a connection to him. That whole scene is also some pretty good writing, even if I wish it were some other cat who killed him.
Also, what in the world does she possibly mean by herself and Shadowsight knowing Ashfur best? Squirrelflight's right there! Heck Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and even Bramblestar know him arguably more than she does.

I know her second death was her sacrificing herself to destroy Ashfur. No One. She sacrificed herself, leaping towards and eventually into the water while pushing Ashfur in. The struggle with Ashfur in the water and the gash on her wound caused by Mapleshade eventually caused her strength to ebb away, causing her to finally sink

Chapter 19: Rootspring wails, “No!” as she disappears below the surface and tears free from Violetshine’s grip to the edge of the water. Violetshine tells him he cant save her and he will put himself in danger too. Rootspring protests and is about to go in the water before Violetshine hauls him away, telling him she is already gone. He knows that his mom is right – Bristlefrost is dead.
The battle slows down. Stemleaf jubilantly announces that Ashfur is gone – that he’s dead. Rootspring wails that Bristlefrost is also dead, much to Stemleaf’s shock, echoed on the face of every warrior as they stop fighting. He sees a gray she-cat struggle from Firestar’s grip and realizes that Smokehaze was killed by Ashfur. She stares at Firestar confused before turning her gaze to Houndleap, her face darkening with fury as she realizes who her true enemy is.
Thistleclaw and Mapleshade back away and flee, Thistleclaw doing so when Crowfeather turns around and faces him and Mapleshade when Maggottail and Berrynose pad towards her menacingly. The rogue spirits come close together and eye the StarClan cats warily before turning and sliding away.
The dark water begins to soak away and disappear into the earth, the ground unbuckles and the trees slide back into place. Violetshine tells Rootspring it is all over, but his mind remains frozen.
Leafpool pushes her way from the long grass and is greeted by Firestar. She tells them that the barrier is gone, StarClan is returning to normal and the connection to the living world is restored. The spirit cats are ready to go to StarClan.
Rootspring turns back to the remains of the dark pool, hope crawling in his belly. He begs the earth. He tries to find her with his powers, but the ground betrays nothing but the Dark Forest. Bristlefrost hasn’t just lost her life, but also her chance to live on in StarClan and he would never, ever see her again.
All he wished for now was for his own spirit to seep into the earth and join her.
