The moon rises slowly as the late fall evening closes to an end. The wind blowing gently through the countryside, the nearby forest rattling with each gust. Leo sighs as she looks up at the star speckled sky. She took a deep breathe, inhaling what is left of the cigarette before throwing it on the gravel path and stomping it. The door to the house opened with a couple loud voices bickering over drinks, the past week, and money. The door closed with a slight slam as footsteps became louder behind Leo. "Ugh, can you believe this guy? I mean, Grandmother falls ill and invites him to stay with us. Grandmother goes to the hospital, and now his arrogant butt thinks that HE owns everything. Too unreal, huh?" Maggie whined loudly. Leo shook her head with a sigh. Their grandmother had fallen ill with cancer a little over a year ago, however in more recent months has it truly impacted her. She no longer smiled, she never had the same optimistic energy as she once did. She invited their uncle Casper, the man notorious for ripping off his own flesh and blood to make a few dollars. Leo looked back at her clearly raging older sister, knowing full well their mother will lecture them as she tends to believe her older brothers obvious lies. "He took away my notebooks, all because I didn't listen to his drunken rage over the hen house not being replaced." Leo chuckled at the memory "We don't even own a flock of chickens anymore, and haven't for years." She walked down the loose gravel path, looking up at the full moon that lights up the otherwise dark countryside. Her heart started to race, making her chest ache. "Leo. Are you ok?" Maggie cocked her head to the side with a concern expression on her face.
Leo nodded, standing straight up as she looked behind her. "Might as well stop that smoking habit eh?" Maggie joked. Leo just softly chuckled, before walking farther down the trail. Hollering behind her "Im going to clear my mind, too much crap in that rage box." Leo's heart raced faster, her head aching as she started to run to the main road. Glancing back and forth before running across the moonlit road. Her back started to crack, as she flew to the ground. Her body aching, she noticed her small hands changing into large sharp clawed hands. She began to panic. She gulped slightly as her lower body began to change. Not too long after, she blacked out.
"that was weird." Maggie muttered to herself as she stomped upstairs to her tiny room, closing the old wooden door behind her quietly. She plopped down on her creaky bed with a huff, looking up at the wall above her bed. "Leo would always just go to her room if she was angry. Mabye she's at that one pond she'd always sit by when we where kids? Whatever." She deeply sighed at the memories, how long gone they where. There was a knock on her bedroom door, it opens slightly with a ear piercing REEEEEEEEE. "Maggie, can I come in?" Maggie looked over at the pale blonde girl poking her head inside. "Yeah, sure. just be sure to close the door behind you dear." Maggie replied calmly. The girl smiled, quickly opening the door and slamming it behind her. Maggie shaking her head and slightly chuckles at the energy from the girl. "I will never know how you get that much energy Tenise." Maggie stood up, taking off her hoodie before throwing it lazily on the floor. Tenise giggled softly, her hands full off books. Maggie glanced at her full hands, she looked out of her window at the fields that blow with the gusts of wind. Tenise placed her pile of books on Maggie's desk chair, quickly spinning around to face Maggie with a warm and excited expression. "I found these looking through papa's old boxes in the shed. They are dusty for sure.." Tenise glanced at the golden brown covered book then piped up once again "Here it is!". Maggie looked at it. The cover image was faded but looked way to familiar. Their grandfather was a college professor back in his youth, was considered a very gifted man. He had collected many vintage books, and had written about his studies of both American and British history. When the siblings where young he'd often tell stories about monsters that lurked in the unexplored hills, forests, and land. He sadly passed from a presumed heart attack when the siblings where teen agers. Tenise looked at Maggie worried, she sat beside Maggie. Wrapping an arm around her slightly teary sister, she softly said "I know. I miss him too.". Maggie held the book to her chest, her heart aching from the memories.
Leo woke up, her body aching heavily from the transformation. She stood to her two feet, glancing at the moon still lighting the sky above her. She blinked her eyes, shaking off the dirt on her head. Placing her large clawed hand on her head, she slightly begin to panic. Looking around, she remembered the pond not far from where she stood. Leo slightly snarled before running toward the the swamp nettles that line around the pond. She looked at her reflection, slightly freaked out at the creature staring back. Not a werewolf.. she thought, touching her cheek slightly. Then what..? I.. She paused her thoughts as she hear nearing footsteps and the sound blaring rap music. "What the-" One of the men's voices said drunkenly. "Eh Casper we gotta Vilgrime!" The man said as he crunched his beer can, throwing it on the ground. Casper and two other men wobble over to check the creature. Leo gulped, looking at all of them. She tried to spit out words, but it was no use. One of the men was trying to aim his rifle at her. "nighty night you ugly monster" He sneered before getting tackled by another creature. Blood spilling from the mans head, the creature took a bite from the mans neck before glancing at Leo with kind eyes. The creature pushed over the other man who was making attempts at stabbing the creature. Casper pulled out his pistol and shot the creature in the shoulder with a few vulgar words under his breathe. The creature screamed in pain before running off into the fields. Leo dashed off in panic, quickly making it to the abandoned barn to hide. Panting heavily she sat down to rest. She lay her head back against the wooden wall of the barn. She closed her eyes, breathing steadily. Casper is way worse than I thought.. she opened her eyes once again, sitting up. A Vilgrime.. I've heard that before. Papa's stories perhaps? Whatever, i have to find a way to sneak back home. The cops will be there soon, not going to risk it. She thought to herself before standing up. The strong scent of old wood, and lilac filled her nose. Leo peaked her head outside of the barn door, looking for any movement before walking out. Her body was still aching from the transformation earlier that night, she had to get home. Who was that anyways? She thought curiously as she headed back home, the image of the creature stuck in her mind. Leo looked at the main road that lay right infront of her. Glancing back and forth, she sprinted across. Go around the back door.. She smirked, opening the back door. The lights where off, Leo looked at the time.

Leo smiled, racing to her room and closing her door behind her with a deep winded sigh. She lay in her bed, her eyes closing upon her head hitting the pillow.
