Im not sure if its just me complaining or not but.. Its harder to read some of the newer books for many reasons. Mainly because the characters are either poorly written or just are completely butchered. So many inconsistencies in personalities, their beliefs, or just destroying a character completely. It's one thing o have a characters morals, and opinions changed after they go through a lesson or event in their life but i've noticed it can be out of the blue. One of the characters (cant remember their name smh) was always responsible, respectful, had empathy, and was very much a good character. However, that character had a total 180 out of the blue and disregarded all they stood for before and became lazy. that character was killed off between books as well. It sometimes feels like the writers have seemed to care more about their stories earlier in the series versus more modernly. While i'm not going to even claim that the first few arcs are perfectly written by any means, it surely was not as poorly laid out as it seems to be now. Sorry if this is a dumb rant, I just needed to get it out there a little bit.

Most of that is attributed to Victoria Holmes no longer being Editor . As she was (bless her soul, I miss you Vicky , Flaws and all . And now we have a bunch of wet-behind the Ears Editors/developers and other new additions to the Writing team that don’t really care, or share any kind of Deep connection with the series or characters as She did . Also pretty sure Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry Now have Far more Wiggle Room Creatively speaking , which allows them to interpret/express there Bias towards Characters much more Freely , and since this 2 share Drastically Different opinions on them , there’s gonna be a lot of butchering back and Forth . Since Victoria Holmes isn’t there keeping the writing and Characters Consistent , and not allowing there personal Bias/dislike for a character to openly expressed , by Ruining a perfectly Good character with their Writing, Simply because they don’t like them . Part of Maintaining good Consistent Writing spanning across such a large Series , is being able to Remain Objective , and sorta Detached , and not allowing Personal Opinions Skewer your Judgment .which Neither Kate or Cherith have ever Really been Good at Doing .

I feel like a lot of characters were written poorly or butchered ever since this series began. For example, even under the guidance of Victoria Holmes, who was the original editor to be tasked with the writing of this series, there were continuity errors and there was also author bias involved. It is thanks to her "understanding" of the motivations behind Ashfur's actions which was "because he loved too much" that the plot of TBC even had to be centered around him years after Vicky had departed from being on the Warriors writing/editing team and had been the one to demand letting him into StarClan despite deserving the Dark Forest in the first place. Another earlier character she kind of ruined was Spottedleaf as it was Vicky who decided for her to become the love interest of Fireheart/star.
While it is also true that the new editing team makes a lot of mistakes in regards to continuity, at least they seem to be unbiased when it concerns characters (for now). And although Kate snd Cherith have different opinions (most notably about Bramblestar and Squirrelflight) they are not the ones deciding these characters ultimate fates or suddenly changing demeanours. This is up to the new(ish/er) editors who are still for some reason unfamiliar with certain backstories. One example from that would be Breezepelt who seemed to have kept his more villainous tendencies in Dovewing's Silence (so during the time Vicky was still on the team) only to change his behaviour almost entirely in Crowfeather's Trial (after she had left and the new team was responsible for creating plots and such).

All background characters that spoke a word or two during the whole series.

AVOS began this wave of blatant character bias in writing that bothered me, and Tigerheart in particular is the best example of the worst kind of character writing. Putting a character on a pedestal and making everyone else around them seem incompetent to make him seem competent in comparison. Everyone else around him has to have their character butchered to make him into a hero and it’s lazy, awful writing imo.

During the time from TPB to OoTs, characters were (mostly) consistent and decently well-developed. But then came AVoS, and this flood of new minor characters with the sole purpose of filling up the allegiances.

AVoS has a lot of awful written characters. Needletail's character wasn't handled that great after Thunder & Shadow and her character felt strange to me after she realized her mistakes. I don't remember too much, but I guess her redemption honestly felt rushed? They should've honestly kept her alive and made her work harder for her redemption, not just tell Violetshine about Tree to earn her place in StarClan. I like Needletail, though. She just wasn't written all that well as people say she is. But to each their own.
Onestar's backstory also disappointed me. It felt forced and out of nowhere that he was suddenly the father of this strange cat who just appeared in AVoS. It felt odd to me that Darktail would come after the clans ten or nine years later? Onewhisker was nice, not a jerk. That feels completely OOC to Onewhisker's nicer character, especially since he was pretty loyal to his clan.
Dovewing's story ending. I still like her, but she was really rude and manipulative with Tigerheart and it felt completely out of character to me that she forced him to choose between her and his clan. Everyone should've just communicated with Dovewing properly, but instead, Ivypool ignored her, and Tigerheart didn't know how to deal with her. I feel like everyone handled the situation poorly in Tigerheart's Shadow. All Tigerheart needed was to be honest with Ivypool, Ivypool should've let Dovewing talk to her, and Dovewing should've been honest and moved to ShadowClan without going on the journey in the first place. Do not debate with me about this. I don't care.Thanks.
Tigerheart. I'm tired of seeing him, and he's probably one of the most inconsistent characters in the series. First, he's really sweet and playful. I enjoyed his character when I was little, but now that I'm older, his behavior with Dovewing is creepy and almost comes off as manipulative with her. He takes advantage of Dovewing's trust, threatens Ivypool about Flametail, and refused to respect Dovewing's decision about moving on from him. Tigerheart gets angry and bitter over it every time she chooses his clan over him, yet he's constantly picking his own clan over her. Then Tigerheart leaves when things get too hard for him because of Rowanstar's request as deputy, making ShadowClan collapse. ShadowClan honestly didn't need Tigerheart that badly. I understand Rowanstar and Tawnypelt since Tigerheart was family to them, but in the end, instead of allowing ShadowClan to collapse, Rowanstar honestly should've just chosen a new deputy without waiting for Tigerheart to return. When Graystripe was kidnapped from his clan, they didn't allow him to become deputy again because he was gone for too long. Why was Tigerheart allowed the position after betraying his own clan? It's author favoritism if you ask me. And don't even get me started on Tigerheart wanting to make peace with SkyClan, and then giving them a hard time later in SqH.
