So we're maybe all inclined to write a fan fiction together? Maybe? Well, here's a game for that. If you've ever RPed, it's like that, only we all 'RP' the same character.
More thoughts will be added as needed.
So to start with, one rule: Don't write more than 1,000 words for your newest writing addition. Please write at least 100 words.
I'll start:
Chapter 1: Goldenleaf padded along the edge of the lake, her pelt slicked back to her side thanks to the rain. It was hard to see several feet in front of her, never mind the fact that she was actually trying to find the shape of a singular rock somewhere off to her right. She could feel her paws trying to sink into the mud, each step more labored than the one before. How was she supposed to cross the lake in this weather to meet 'her' when it was this hard to even tell what was going on. Goldenleaf growled under her breath, feeling the water starting to seep through the gold of her fur, adding to the mud, making her whole frame look and feel like a rock. She hated it. She hated that this was what she'd had to resort to.

It was a WindClan she-cat that had told Goldenleaf she knew where she could find her mother. She hadn't even spoken her name, only that on the half moon she would be at the WindClan-RiverClan border near the lakeside. The golden she-cat slipped on the bank, sliding into the mud. She shivered as she stood, so heavy with mud she could hardly take another pawstep forward. But there was the boulder two or three tail lengths ahead.
The stream raged underneath. The boulder marked a shallower crossing, but now the river was engorged with rain and rushed out like a trail of ink beneath her sodden paws. She stood at the edge of the stone looking down into the water, quivering with cold and exhaustion. She didn't know how deep it was and she wasn't a RiverClan cat or a strong swimmer. But with the cold mud caking her fur, she didn't know if she could make it back to the ShadowClan camp either. She didn't know if she could live with herself if she turned back empty pawed. It was hard enough with that aching hole in her thoughts where a mother should be, but knowing there was an answer and she had been too weak to find it would be unbearable.
No, Goldenleaf thought, turning back to the raging stream. She closed her eyes, sent out a quick prayer to the stars, and stepped into the river.

The cold water hit her like an icy blast as she plunged into the torrential waters that separated her from the truth. Scrabbling fiercely, the she-cat fought desperately to keep her head above the water, it's raging currents constantly threatening to drag her down into the darkness below. Her fear and determination carried her ever onward, though her frantic efforts to stay afloat grew weaker with each passing moment.
She let out a gargled yowl as a particularly strong current pulled her under. Her struggles proved fruitless against the constant onslaught of water and her lungs screamed for air. Her vision began to dim and her movements slowed and she realized that she would never find out who her mother was.
As her consciousness began to fade, she felt something grip her scruff and the sensation of something lifting, no, dragging her to the surface. As she breached the water, she coughed, desperately trying to draw breath. She hardly had the strength to move at all, and yet she realized she was moving towards the river bank. It was at that moment that she realized someone had saved her, though she had no clue as to who. After a few more moments of labored swimming, Goldenleaf's rescuer managed to drag her ashore.

There was a feeling of reeds tickling her whiskers. It felt slimy and gross, but she pushed her face through it, peering into the night. She didn't know who had saved her. Couldn't see them for the night. Only the soft patter of steps told her somewhere was there. Some cat had saved her life. They'd thrown themselves into the river for her. Someone was willing to give up their life for hers. Goldenleaf turned quickly. She'd never felt so close to her mother before, so close to the truth about everything. But the only thing that looked back at her was darkness, Starclan obscured by thick tendrils. She pushed herself a step forward, felt the burn in her pads where she must've cut them in her fright. Still, if her mother was nearby- From the opposite end of the trees, a lone voice spoke out. "Your a feral cat, right?" Goldenleaf felt her heart sink in her chest. This was a kittypet, a male, nothing matching her mother. Yet she kept going, trying to catch sight of the cat who wasn't her mother. She thought she caught sight of a sleek, well fed pelt. Maybe red fur. But the only thing she could tell for sure was his eyes, as clear green as her own. "Well?" He asked. "My mom always said clan cats were stupid. But I'd at least expect them to know not to cross quick death river. The undercurrent isn't exactly easy to get through, even on a good day. You guys live here all the time. Thought you'd at least know how to survive."

"I didn't have a choice." She exasperatedly claimed, ignoring the kittypet's insults. even in her exhausted state, she knew her excuse was weak. She headed towards the kittypet, her wobbly steps gaining in some confidence. "I was supposed to be meeting someone here. Have you seen any other clan cats around?" Goldenleaf knew the chances were slim, but she had to at least ask.
"Other than you? No." The kittypet replied simply, his eyes fixated on her. "Pretty stupid to risk your life crossing that river just to talk to someone."
Goldenleaf hesitated before responding, caught off guard by the Kittypet's bluntness. "Yeah, well, a pampered kittypet like you wouldn't get it. We risk our lives every day just to survive." She tried to make her voice sound strong, but there was still some level of shakiness to it.
"Seems pretty pointless if you ask me." The kittypet commented. "Why risk dying every day when you could just settle down with some housefolk? You'd have all the food you could want, a warm place to sleep, it's perfect!"

"Perfect?" Goldenleaf scoffed. The urge to shake the rain from her fur was strong, but she knew she'd just get soaked through again. "If your den is so warm, then why are you out here in the storm?"
The tom flicked his tail, slashing cold water over her muzzle. She spat to clear her tongue of the taste and had to sprint to catch up when he started walking away in the storm. He glanced over as she found her way to his shoulder, his ears pressed flat against the rain. "Would you rather I hadn't saved your scrawny tail?"
She didn't reply. Goldenleaf didn't even know why she was following anymore. He was heading away from the lakeshore, the opposite direction than her intended destination. StarClan, she thought angrily, though she couldn't tell if it were a prayer or a curse.

"Look, mister, I need to get back to my clan. Could you tell me if there's any natural hiding spots around here? Anywhere someone could stay?" The tom barely stopped. "Don't you want to get out of the cold?" Goldenleaf felt a drip of water fall onto her nose. It reminded her of her horrid escapade through the water, the pain in her lungs, her pads, even her eyes. Then she thought about her mother. She'd risked lots of trouble getting here. She's risked questions and enemy patrols and drowning. How could this slightly annoying tom stop her? "I can't just leave my clan for a night. Shrewstar would be mad. And then she'd follow my scent out of the clan, and she'd learn I'd gone across clan territory, and everyone would be mad. So could you please tell me where I can go." This time, the tom stopped. He raked his paw through the rain soaked earth. Goldenleaf could see mud going up to his chest. "Clans, what are they good for?" He asked. "All they do is cause more problems for everyone." Goldenleaf thought of her mother for the briefest of seconds. It had been too long since she'd seen her thick golden tabby pelt, her green eyes, the gentle laugh she used when Goldenleaf got in trouble. It was the kind of thing her mother would say, she supposed. Goldenleaf wasn't willing to admit it to the tom, but sometimes she thought the same.

Goldenleaf didn't respond though. She held in that fact and instead asked, "Were you the one to pull me out of the water?" It was almost a snap. She probably should have, if this was indeed the cat who had saved her, but she didn't have a better idea and he was also getting on her nerves. The tom paused again, having only just recently started walking. He looked back, looking slightly confused. "No," he said, then started padding on ahead. "You were at the riverbank. Someone pulled you out?" Goldenleaf wonders if that was the WindClan cat she was supposed to meet, but it seems unlikely. She'd still been in RiverClan and why would a WindClan cat be any better at swimming than she was. "Yes. But they disappeared." The tom shrugged and didn't look back. "Guess you can count yourself lucky then." Goldenleaf, wet, tired, and annoyed, wasn't sure if that was the wording she would have used. "Where are we going?" she asked instead. The tom angled his ears forward, a couple droplets of water flicking from them as he did. "There." A foggy, rain covered shape was emerging ahead. It looked like a box to Goldenleaf and that was about it - distant, but not natural. Her fur started to bristle.

Why didn't she stay? Goldenleaf had to believe it was a she. That her mother was still there for her, throughout it all. But her mother had seen her as a kit, had watched her open her eyes before leaving. Goldenleaf couldn't remember much, just a blurry brown pelt and pale green eyes. She knew her only from her father's stories, all the moons she'd spent training to be the best warrior in Shadowclan, the way her pelt blended in perfectly with the shadows. Her favorite food, the small minnows that sometimes jumped from the lake onto shallow pools. That was all she knew of her mother. The rest, Shadowclan, Shrewstar and the rest, had taken away. Goldenleaf had thought, at least, that her mother would want to be with her. But maybe it had been too long. She had a mate, after all. An apprentice, a life. She shouldn't have risked it all for this. "Do you know a safe place around this stream?" She asked. "Somewhere I could go?" The tom flicked his claws through the mud. "You don't want to go somewhere warm?" "I want to get home. Before the dawn patrol gets out."

There was a pause in Goldenleaf's voice that she hadn't wanted to be there. The tom was looking at her, still padding to what she could only assume was his twoleg den. But then he pulled up. "You might be more at risk of getting caught up in a flood or mudslide if you do that," he pointed out, rain water dripping from his whiskers. Even though he'd just cautioned her, he still shifted his course. This time heading for what seemed to be a bunch of ferns clustered under the trees. Goldenleaf had to hurry to keep up and had to be careful to keep track of her guide as he disappeared into the curling fronds. At least it kept a lot of the water out. Only once they were deep into the patch of foliage did the tom stop and turn, looking back at Goldenleaf. "Will this do? I'm not going to come and direct you again if you get pulled into the river."

Goldenleaf didn't know what to say to that. She was still a bit mad at the tom for leading her on, acting like he'd saved her life and all that. But at least he'd been helpful enough. And she needed somewhere to sleep... "I think I'll survive." Goldenleaf responded. "You know, we go through rain spells all the time in the clans." "And you still try crossing a river." the tom muttered. She glared. "Well, don't you have a nice, warm, twoleg nest to be in?" This time, the tom tilted his head. "What?" It wasn't like she'd said anything worse then he had. Annoyance matched annoyance, that was all. "You think I'm walking around in the dead of night in the middle of the rain for no reason?" "Well, I thought you were a rogue for a little bit. But you certainly have fat on you." Goldenleaf took the time to jump into the almost shelter. The fronds of grass and leaves caught most of the water. Beneath it, mouse droppings had softened the ground. It felt warm to her touch, and light to. Maybe not as good as moss, but close. Shrewstar would definitely ask questions. "As opposed to starving." The tom answered forward. "You think I want to be out here? Even a wild cat like you is staying in bed." "Then tell me, what's your story?" Goldenleaf curled up in a circle, half closing her eyes. She didn't know how any cat could be more obvious. Get out of my fur, mousebrain. Instead, the tom's eyes seemed to gleam. "I suppose, you could say," He said, tearing up the bedding dirt with barely contained claws. "my family's got quite the history here." Goldeleaf rolled her eyes. She just wanted to sleep! But the tom sat down, not noticing a thing.

Eventually, Goldenleaf humored him. There didn’t seem to be a way to make him stop if she didn’t. “History?” she asked. “What sort of history?” This seemed to please the tom and he curled his tail around his paws. “Well, you see, my great-grandparents were born in this area,” he said, “Back when your clans were first founded.” He clearly knew that would get Goldenleaf’s attention. Her head jerked up sharply. "What?" she asked. "Your family has saw the clan-founding?" He was grinning now, clearly very pleased with himself. Then he nodded several times. "I wouldn't say it's that impressive. You're hardly an ancient group."

Did he always know how to get under her fur? Goldenleaf shook her head. She couldn’t let him get to her like this. “Do you know who your ancestors were?” She asked. “Which clan?” The Tom met her gaze, but his eyes lowered ever so slightly as he answered. “Swiftheart and Tulippelt. Of Thunderclan.” It was the first time he sounded ashamed with himself, or at least not high on a horse. Goldenleaf had to admit, she liked him better that way. “I didn’t even know what the clans were called.” She said, finally. “We don’t know much about them, except that they left their camps here, and nothing else.” “You guys don’t seem to know much of anything.” The Tom responded, flicking his tail. “If you actually talked to other cats, you might realize there’s quite a bit you haven’t been told.”

The tom said this, almost with amusement, his whiskers bunching up as if he was speaking some sort of riddle made Goldenleaf bristle. To Goldenleaf, it sounded like some cryptic message, and she really wanted to bop her paw against his head for doing it. "Well, we know enough. Just enough to keep the clan going just fine." The tom didn't say anything for a bit, then pointed out, "I pulled you out of a river because you were looking for your mother. So either you have a strange, mysterious swimmer of a mother in your clan that you've never talked to, or you're half-clan. Or whatever you call it. Some strange clan-purity nonsense-" "Grrr," interrupted Goldenleaf with a growl, but the tom kept going. "-So maybe you don't know enough about what's outside of your clan."

“I know what’s going on outside the clans! I’m not a mousebrain!” Goldenleaf said. The tom flicked his tail. “Really now?” “Yeah.” Goldenleaf sat back in the moss bed. “I mean, I know all about the kitty pets who keep stealing prey on our land. They’re very bad at hiding their scent.” The Tom’s eyes gleamed. “Mind if I ask you a question, then?” “Go ahead.” Goldenleaf wasn’t sure she could answer it, but she wasn’t going to give the tom another easy win. “I’m sure you guys can’t have too much going on.” “Then I’m sure you can answer this one.” The tom said. And asked, in a smug voice. “What’s my name?” “What’s your…” Goldenleaf snorted. “Why should I know your name?” “If you knew anything about the world outside of the clans, you would know.” The tom said. “I’m the leader of this town.” “The leader of this…” Goldenleaf frowned. “Your the one stealing food!” The tom tilted his head. “You guys really don’t know anything, so you? Alright, here’s my name.”

Goldenleaf leaned away from the tom, but then he did just as he said - spoke his name. “Kalic,” he said, with an almost grin in his tone of voice. It took a second for the name to hit Goldenleaf, then her eyes widened. This was a lot bigger than she’d ever expected. “Wait, you’re supposed to live in twolegplace!” The tom shrugged, or rather, Kalic shrugged, “I do. Most of the time. But sometimes I have to come out here. There’s a lot cats to lead. More than just the rogues around twolegplace.” Goldenleaf couldn’t help but shake her head. “That can’t be possible. I’ve heard that you died!” “Clearly not,” Kalic scoffed.

Goldenleaf’s brain broke, for a few seconds. “So… you aren’t dead.” Kalic nodded his head. “And…” She didn’t know what she’d expected to happen tonight, but certainly not this. “Are you sure your name isn’t Peanut, or something kittypet like?” “You really haven’t spent a long time outside of the clans, have you?” “I have a life.” Goldenleaf said. “I don’t just swim through rivers in the night everyday.” “And I don’t have to save drowning cats everyday, but here we are.” Goldenleaf pushed the teasing aside. “So your actually Kalic. Dead cat.” “Very much not dead.” “Well, obviously.” Goldenleaf answered. “It’s just, I’ve heard about you before. You used to lead a pack of rogues. You got and killed a badger with you bare paws. You can speak dog.” Kalic flicked his ear. “I did all that and more, sweetie.” Goldenleaf couldn’t believe she hadn’t recognized him from the stories. But she had never met Kalic before, had never even seen him. On the cats in the clans to the opposite side of the lake had. It was from them that all the tall tales came, almost every moon. Goldenleaf had always assumed they were slightly exaggerated. “Well, thanks for saving me.” She said. “I should probably head back to my den.” “Go ahead.” Kalic said. “And do me a favor, Goldenleaf, don’t go looking for your mother again around here. It’s much more dangerous then your role playing in the woods around here.” She rolled her eyes. But it was going to be a long way to the camp, and her brain was still too shattered from the days events to think straight. She stood up, on shaky legs. “You smell like a waterlogged vole.” Kalic said, pinching his nose. She didn’t deign to respond to that comment as she picked her way out of the small den.

(Very confused a bit since at first it was stated Kalic didn’t save her. And then the narrative said he did.)
At some point, Goldenleaf found herself approaching WindClan territory. The rain had lessened slightly from the storm, yet the persistent shaking of rain-drops chilled her pelt. She even found herself flicking rain from the tips of her ears. She craned her head forward, not even seeing a hint of the lake in this darkness so even if she wanted to swim back to ShadowClan, that would not be an option either. Her whiskers twitched nervously as her body kept moving of its own accord until she tripped on something. A yelp of surprise left her mouth as she found herself now sprawled on the muddy ground, yet her voice was not the only one that rang out on that rainy night. What she had tripped on had been a tail, a skinny cat’s tail to be exact. Goldenleaf tried to re-orient herself, floundering as mud soon caked her long fur as orange eyes glared angrily at her. “For a ShadowClan cat, you should know where you’re going in the dark.” The feline griped before continuing smoothly, narrowed orange eyes widening with glee. “Your mother didn’t have ShadowClan blood so maybe you inherited her lack of vision.” She snickered. Goldenleaf glared at the she-cat, who’s pale gray and white fur should have certainly been easy to spot in the darkness. Still, this was the cat she had ventured out of ShadowClan territory to see. “You changed the meeting place-“ “You didn’t show up at the correct time anyway, rabbit-brain. But I do appreciate you even bothering to show up instead of keeping me out in the cold all night. Also you stepped on my tail, I deserve to taunt you, at that rate.” The skinny cat replied, rolling her eyes at the ShadowClan warrior. “Are you going to taunt me the rest of the night or are you going to start talking, Cloudflurry?” She asked, growing irritated with how awful the current events had gone down already. Even still, she still may eventually deal with Shrewstar’s own wrath if she didn’t return to ShadowClan before dawn. The skinny WindClan warrior merely grinned, eyes gleaming at the thought of not providing Goldenleaf the information she had sought to seek in the first place. Goldenleaf opened her mouth to say something in response when Cloudflurry simply flicked her now muddy-tipped tail in the direction of a nearby bush to stay out of the rain.

(I think Goldenleaf just thinks Kalic saved her? Or at least, that's how it could be spun for the narrative.)
Cloudflurry's tail tip was half tempted to get a pouncing with all the trouble Goldenleaf felt she had went through. But she didn't comment further. Not until they got to the safety of the bushes at least. At least there, she felt a little less like she was going to become a fish. Settling down under the bush, she drew her tail closer to herself and sighed. "We should make this quick. Our clans will probably wonder where we've gone if we're not careful." It had already been such a long time. Cloudflurry seemed unconcerned. "It'll be fine. You wanted to know about your mother, so I'm here to tell you about your mother." Goldenleaf's fur prickled up and she leaned forward. "... well?"

(Wanted to cover up a plot hole I had accidentally created. Likely Goldenleaf just forgot it briefly due to the stress of having to sneak out. I also think we potentially need a small allegiances of important characters or something?)
She waited with baited breath, as the WindClan warrior’s eyes simply narrowed. “First, let me ask you this, how do you know my name?” She asked, her tone not of malice but of an almost gleeful curiosity as Goldenleaf’s fur spiked with irritation. Goldenleaf forced her fur to lie flat, fighting back a potential lie as she told the truth. “My apprentice actually told me. Apparently your apprentice has complained about you once or twice.” The ShadowClan warrior then waited for a reaction as Cloudflurry’s whiskers only twitched, her eyes remaining narrowed. “If Fawnpaw could pay attention instead of running her mouth, I wouldn’t have to be so hard on her.” If they hadn’t been so close together, Goldenleaf likely would not have heard her reply in the rain, she decided to not to comment on it. “My mother. What do you know about her? You said you knew where I could find her.” She pressed, trying to turn the conversation back to its true purpose.

Hope this is okay 😅🤗
Cloudfurry flicked her ear. “She left the clans,”She started. Goldenleaf leaned in eager for more. “She left for Kalic’s group,” the white she-cat said as she lowered her gaze. Goldenleaf’s head spun. “I know surprising am I right? I thought that group only existed in the tales of the elders, but I guess not,” Cloudfurry joked. Goldenleap jumped up, “Is she still there?!” She asked needing an answer. “I’m afraid I don’t know, the group left this area once Kalic died. I think they may have went through the twoleg place.” Goldenleap wanted to run back to Kalic but dawn would be coming soon and she would need to get back to her clan.

She tore at the moss beneath her feet. If there was anyway to find her mother, to reconnect with her, it was with Kalic. She’d always thought it would be impossible, that her mother was some unfinished force. Her whole life she’d been searching for her mother, and now, by some twist of fate, she’d never been so close. And yet so far, she mused. Goldenleaf lashed her tail. She could feel the change in the light as the sun approached. Soon, golden light would fill the sides of the canyons, and Shrewstar would get up, ready to lead the dawn patrol. Certainly, someone would notice if she tried to sneak into camp. Certainly, they’d notice her now, wet and dripping and tired enough she could barely complete a full sentence. She hadn’t been in her bed all night- it would be cool to the touch. Cool enough that any sane cat would find reason to question it. So Goldenleaf shoved away the worries. She didn’t let herself think about Kalic and her mother as she turned to Cloudflury, “I need to get going.” She was gone before her voice could echo against the trees.

Choosing to go through RiverClan territory and keeping within the necessary measure of the lake to where it would not seem like she was trespassing. Quietly, she hoped no RiverClan cat would be awake this early to reach her and she solemnly walked to her eventual punishment that Shrewstar had waiting for her. Her heart ached in confusion as she padded across the shore-line, cold water barely reaching her already wet paw-pads. She finally held answers about her mother but she also had her father, a mate, and apprentice within ShadowClan. Her father hadn’t abandoned her after shortly opening her eyes, Sunheart was a true and loyal warrior of ShadowClan. An actually decent parent compared to a mother with no Clan blood who joined a group that had fought the Clans themselves. “I won’t tell him where mother went off too, it would break his heart to know she joined Kalic’s group… Kalic.” She muttered to herself, and doubt like claws scraped at her with thoughts that he had been thinking she was a mouse-brain. She may have her father’s golden fur but her mother’s eyes, eyes Kalic would have certainly recognized but he had revealed nothing of her mother. The golden she-cat was now conflicted, Kalic had saved her life but failed to provide important information, information she had wanted for so long to know since she was a kit. As she moved, she imagined the pathway of telling the Clans Kalic still lived and watching Shrewstar claw his ears off before dismissing the thought. Regardless of his failures, Kalic had still saved her from the dreaded waters, she could only return the favor by not telling the Clans that he still lived, at least this one time. To her own amazement, she was surprised to be so close to the ShadowClan and RiverClan border, a few more paw-steps and she would soon be in her home territory.

It took Goldenleaf a second to notice how tired she was. The cold had settled into her lungs, into her fur, into the small scratches she hadn’t noticed on her paws. Goldenleaf just wanted to sleep, to not think about the last night’s events. She trudged forward, limping ever so slightly, and just stopped in time to avoid smacking a lithe yellow tabby cat in the face. “Goldenleaf, right?” Bananaheart asked. “What in Starclan’s name are you doing here?” The rest of her patrol stood behind her, just on the other side of the border. Goldenleaf opened her mouth, and closed her mouth. She had no idea what to say.
