Who do you like more as a character, on their own merit, without Dovewing involved?

As a character. That would be Bumblestripe. Apart from recently he was always shown to be kind and loyal. Such as the time he took Briarlight out of camp.
I also wasn't too bothered by his behavior in SR because I agree with LionCinder that Spotpaw shouldn't have done that.

Tigerheart. I find him entertaining to read about.

Bumblestripe by a landslide. I actually like his character, unlike Tigerheart

before bumblestripe was ruined for the love triangle plot, he was a better person than tigerheart. tigerfart is and always was an awful and selfish little jerk.

Bumblestripe is a "nice guy" that legitimately read like he could have been on his way to becoming Ashfur 2 before reining it in and just feels like he exists to be Dovewing's obviously doomed second chance rather than a character of his own right. He deserved better than being Dovewing's "gonna try and fail to forget about Tigerheart" option but it doesn't make him any less annoying or unpleasant to read. Even Ashfur originally had an interesting arc or two to explore, between his genuine loyalty towards Cloudtail as a friend and foster brother in Rising Storm and his role in thwarting Tigerstar's plot with the dogs in Dangerous Path. Bumblestripe feels like he was a missed opportunity in Briarlight's arc because he really feels like he does the bare minimum in it (even if nearly nothing is better than Blossomfall's bullshit) and mostly just exists to be Dovewing's romantic false lead that she tries to use to get over Tigerheart and then goes on to stay salty about it for the rest of his existence.
I am currently feeling too lazy to write up on why I like Tigerheart but there are enough people who'll defend him that I can get away with it. Bumblestripe is such a loser that I felt passionate enough to type up exactly why this annoying piece of shit will lose my vote in just about every comparison I see him in though, genuinely wouldn't mind if he got Rainwhisker'd between series or something.

Tigerheart. I liked him a lot in his initial appearances and still do.

I can't imagine Bumblestripe without Dovewing anymore. Tigerheart

Neither. But if I really had to pick, I suppose Tigerheart. Don't like either character much, but Tigerheart has more of a personality than Bumblestripe. He's loyal to his clan, makes a decent parent, and diciplines his warriors if they break the code and don't listen to him. He makes sure his clan is on track and healthy and happy. Bumblestripe on the other hand... he's just nice for a little while but then can't handle being told no from Dovewing, and gets bitter after she leaves. There's really nothing to Bumblestripe's character that makes him interesting.

Without Dovewing involved, Bumblestripe is nearly nothing. He only has ONE bit of characterization, and that would be his treachery followed by his "redemption" in TBC. It's not bad characterization, but compared to Tigerheartstar, who DOES do a lot of stuff even without Dovewing involved, well the answer is lopsided. Tigerheart is VERY annoying and inconsistent as a character, but he's also possible to read as just a flaming trash heap which is entertaining even if I despise him.
Tough choice here, but I guess I would say Tigerheart is more interesting in a way that I hate him more?

Tigerheart because I remember and like many things about him that don't involve Dovewing, whereas the only thing I remember about Bumblestripe that doesn't involve BumbleDove is his concern for Briarlight in OOTS, which was sweet, but I still think Tigerheart is way more interesting on his own.

As someone who despises Tigerheart (but also doesn't like Bumblestripe much) it truly pains me to say that he gets my vote here. He at least had a personality before Dovewing and still continues to do so (even though I hate it). Bumblestripe was mostly just there in PoT and OotS (until becoming a part of the love triangle) while his whole arc during AVoS centered around Dovewing once again with him ending up being bitter about her leaving him and choosing Tigerheart. He only had a somewhat interesting storyline in TBC (alongside Berrynose) with him on the impostors side and then realizing his mistake but I guess we will have to wait and see what exactly he does next.

Tigerheart. As much as I dislike him I'd rather read about someone I have an opinion on rather than someone I have no opinion on other than "wow, he's creepy". Besides, even I have to admit Tigerheart was pretty badass and entertaining during VoS so he gets points for that.

There's really nothing to Bumblestripe's character that makes him interesting. I agree with what you said about Tigerheart...Bumblestripe however.. If someone disappeared for months, putting the whole clan in worry in distress, a clan that wasted time and resources looking for her, only to find out she was off breaking the code... What did you expect him to do? Welcome her back with open arms? He wasn't the only one who was upset with her either. Also, he asked her for kits, she said no, he backed off, sure the timing was right, but he's no Ashfur, not even close, I don't even see how people can even come to that conclusion. In the books even, it's not him asking him to be her mate, it's Rosepetal and Whitewing, but no one says anything about them. People assume that he told them to ask her for him, but where is that EVER show? Someone could just as easily say that Whitewing put Bumblestripe up to it too or something. The most believable scenario to me, is that Bumblestripe mentioned he had feelings for her, and they took it into their own paws to set it up. No one calls out Thrushpelt when Rosetail kept trying to pressure Bluestar into being his mate. Bumblestripe is seriously overhated for things that aren't even in the books.
