I always saw Yellowfang doing that as a partial mercy killing and guilt-driven than an act of true selfless good. I mean it definitely was for the best, but she was also still a mother who had to sit and watch her son stumble around and be blind and weaker. Not to mention her guilt of unleashing him in the world to begin with, she saw him as her punishment for breaking the code to begin with and she was fixing her mistake. I wonder, actually, if she hadn't killed him as some type of "atonement" for his crimes, would she have been forgiven for breaking the warrior code? Could the Yellowfang we know have gone to the Dark Forest if she let him live? It's an interesting theoretical. This is true, but it's been shown multiple times (from what I've read) that StarClan tends to analyze the situation at hand from their point of view and react based off of actions and not feelings. To them, I suspect the reasoning wasn't as important, but rather the outcome and if it necessarily broke the code or not. Maybe I'm wrong though. I guess but that's mostly in later books. I really miss the first series portrayals of StarClan as these mythical, almost diefic ancestor beings whose motives no one could tell and for the most part stayed nameless except for a few recently-dead or cats we already knew from the storytellings. The new books just really steal that magic away and make it more mundane and confusing. And I'd love to see an arc or fanfic that expressed StarClan in that way again and the types of choices they would make while keeping everything a very light-touch prophecy here, omen there, type of deal and never got them involved in the physical plane to begin with. Theories and hypotheticals about the books are more fun than the books anymore

Anyway I'd probably end up in the Dark Forest because the Erin's can't even stay consistent in who goes to what afterlife or why. Which is very annoying. But I won't denly that StarClan is definitely preferable as far as "not suffering". I'd also like to point out though that being alone all the time isn't that annoying to some people. There's also a chance that you could just wander out of StarClan/The Dark Forest and choose to go someplace completely new because it was implied during the new prophecy that StarClan spirits had to make their own journey to move in vacinity of the lake, and we also get a peek at the Tribe's afterlife. To which people would being alone for all eternity in a horrible, enclosed place not be awful? Wandering out of Starclan seems possible but not out of the DF given Snowtuft and Darkstripe clearly didn't want to be there yet couldn't escape.

StarClan, it's not even competition. I can have nice weather, endless prey, and spend the eternity with all my loved ones whitout worrying something might happen to them. It wins for me.

Because I have. And that's my peak comfort zone. Not everyone is the same and I'm tired of all the pearl-clutching going on that maybe people like different things.

I'm going to say the Dark Forest, because I'm edgy and short-sighted and think that not wanting to hang out in a fairly nice place that happens to house the occasional idiot or hypocrite is worth loneliness and misery for eternity. Buddy, if you think that your opinion is fact and therefore far superior than everyone else's, just say so. You don't need to hide it behind a veil of snark. If you think everyone who voted "Dark Forest" are all edgy shortsighted idiots, just say so! You don't need to go to such a far length to try and conceal it behind sarcasm. You're new, I'll give you that, but we on the forums don't appreciate condescending jerks who have yet to realize that you shouldn't insult people for having a different opinion.

I wasn't made aware until recently that sarcasm was considered "concealing" as opposed to being plainly obvious. I also wasn't made aware until your post that only people who believe that their opinion is fact and far superior to everyone else's use sarcasm. For the sake of not continuing to derail the discussion, I will make the previous three sentences the last instances of sarcasm I indulge in for the rest of the thread. Feel free to get in the last word, because I know that people hate losing out on that; I'll try to restrain myself from replying further unless you have an actual question regarding this post, though I'd much prefer if such a question were brought up in DMs.

It's better to tell people that you think they are edgy shortsighted idiots to their face than try to say it sarcastically.

It’s literally free to not be a jerk. Literally who cares if people chose the Dark Forest? Who actually genuinely cares if they prefer that? The blatant sarcasm to insult people really isn’t needed. It really isn’t.

Now imagine doing that every single day and never seeing or hearing anyone ever again. Imagine if the woods aren't actually alive so the air is unnatural and sterile. That you aren't actually free to move as you please, and basically penned up in your little section like an animal. It's not pearl clutching to point out the inherent and underlying terror present in forced isolation in a horrible place for long periods of time. Comparing imprisonment to a lively jaunt seems to rather be missing the point.

"Being alone for eternity" *glances at POT, OotS and TBC* Mmmmmmmm.....Idk they don't look so lonely to me, lol. Heck, even as early as TNP, we're shown that cats from the Dark Forest can literally just hang around each other if they wanted to and also visit the dreams of the living. And lol, the first time Hawkfrost even meets Ivypaw it's not even in the Dark Forest, was in a beautiful comfortable meadow, like? Not to mention not everyone in the DF is just...straight up horrible or black and white like people want to make them out to be. If I had a nickel for every person claiming that Snowtuft is a good boy, he's changed, and "deserves StarClan" when he very much shows he hates StarClan and admires Tigerone, lmfao. Meanwhile, you have Ashfur, and him getting into StarClan for the most absurd reason, "Cause he loved too much" then apparently StarClan entrusting him of all cats to go to the living world...what did they expect would happen??? My point is, StarClan isn't as great as people make it out to be, just like how the Dark Forest isn't as bad as people make it out to be. And looking at it in a black and white lens is nonsensical, especially when cats don't even control where they go when they died. Flametail literally was wandering around in the DF before StarClan, and the books have made it clear that cats can easily just cross the borders and spy on one another just as much as they can when they're alive. "Oh well, everything is happy in StarClan, endless food, nothing but sun??" Ummm hmm well if you're dead I'm pretty sure you don't have to eat, and I don't think the scenery time of the day is that big of a deal. I feel like it's just hard for some people to accept that certain people would not make StarClan their go-to, and being passive-aggressive or outright rude about it, shows how unnecessarily pushy you're being. It's kinda uncomfortable brah. Just saying. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And this is why we can't have nice things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Keep the derailing away from the thread*, please. There is no reason to be a jerk and there is no reason to use sarcasm to the point someone may think it's an insult. Just communicate properly and if there is an misunderstanding, work it out in a kind matter. If you can't do that, call the mods.
