Rainkit grew up in a happy family... or so she thought. As it turned out, Whitekit was actually the daughter of Soup, a Kittypet from Twolegplace, since kits in the same litters can have different fathers. Whitepaw was never happy in ShadowClan, and soon after receiving her warrior name, she threw herself from the top of the gorge, and her body was never found. However, she started appearing in visions to her sister, Blueflake, the ShadowClan medicine cat. He was shocked to learn that she was in the Dark Forest, training under Purefang. She even had an apprentice of her own, Rustlepaw. Rustlepaw was a dark gray tabby tom with amber eyes, and he was training under Whitetail! Blueflake confided this to Rainfeather, his sister, and together they told ThunderClan's leader, Hawkstar. He talked to Rustlepaw, and Rustlepaw was shocked, because he thought he was just training to be a better warrior. He never went there again. However, their visit had another result... Rustletwig grew attracted to Rainfeather. Rainfeather, upon learning this at a Gathering, realized that she, too, had feelkings for the beautiful tabby. They started meeting up, and soon Rainfeather learned she was expecting kits. Blueflake warned his sister of dire consequences, but she ignored him. She gave birth to a healthy litter of 5.

Quietkit was the runt of the litter and although she seemed as healthy and rambunctious as all her littermates, it was later discovered that she was mute and not just shy to speak. She was loved all the same by her mother Rainfeather and the tom who claimed to be their father, ShadowClan warrior Thistlepine. She and her clan adapted, developing tail and paw signals so that she could communicate. She became a loyal warrior, earning the name Quietpath. As she was growing up though, her mothers secret was revealed: she and her siblings were half clan and their father was now the ThunderClan deputy. The ShadowClan leader decided to exile Rainfeather and she later joined ThunderClan to be with her mate. Her litter was given a choice: the leave with her or stay. Although it broke her heart to see her mother leave, Quietpath knew her place was in ShadowClan. She never had kits but trained many apprentices. One apprentice, Clearpaw, has lost her parents early and thought of Quietpath as her mother. When Clearwater had her own kits, Quietpath was more than happy to treat them as her kin.

Frostkit even when she began to speak learned the tail signals and gestures her adopted grandmother used to communicate alongside her brothers eveningkit and cloudykit. by apprentice hood frostpaw was using the tail signals and gestures instinctively as she spoke even if it wasn't with quietpath, which while odd, no one in the clan saw it as harmful or needing to be addressed. She failed her hunting assignment twice before finally succeeding the third time, her mentor Pineshadow was patient with her dispite her failings and through longer training sessions helped frostpaw pass her assignment. Frostpaw earned her warrior name, Frostfall for her hardwork and determination. Frostfall fell in love with a female loner named Wish, who had been left by her mate and was expecting his kits. Wish joined shadowclan after many meetings between her and frostfall, that way they could be together and raise the kits in a safe environment. Wish didn't change her name upon joining shadowclan and decided offically became mates with frostfall. The two she-cats were scruntized at first, but evantually the clan learned to accept them and frostfall treated wish's kits like her own.

Moonkit and her sister Sunkit grew up under difficult circumstances. Aside from the scrutiny of their parentage, they were born during a particularly bad leafbare. It was a miracle both of them survived. The seasons to follow were rife with territory battles, famines, and greencough outbreaks. ShadowClan was struggling but they pushed through. When badgers invaded their territory, Moonpaw and Sunpaw impressed the leader by fighting fiercely. When they were given their warrior names, Moonbeam and Sunshade respectively, they were hailed as impressive warriors. Sunshade continued to become deputy while Moonbeam settled down with her mate Batwing. Although they had many litters, only three kits survived to maturity.
