Agreed!
I'd love to see the queen and her kits that joined WarriorClan in Graystripe's Vow appear next time we see WarriorClan again.

Agree, those kits definitely need names and descriptions!
Speaking of WarriorClan, I don’t like a lot of their names. You could have any prefix and suffix combo and you choose Bigteeth?

Disagree. I think they are hilarious and don't take them to seriously. They sorta read like an upgrade to some of the modern SkyClan names early on after it got rebuild.
Speaking of kittypets though, I hope we see some more interactions with one or two again in an upcoming book. Those convos between Clan cats and kittypets tend to either be quite funny or at least fun in a way. Especially when they meet more aggressive ones.

Agree, although I hope it's a kittypet more like Fuzzball than an aggressive one. I would love to see what happens after cats die for the second time. Is there another version of StarClan, or is it just a dark, empty void? I think it would be pretty cool to see Spottedleaf and Bristlefrost meet up in StarClan Squared. They'd get along quite well, actually. In the same context, is there a Dark Forest Squared as well, or a different empty void? Or something a little more interesting: a place where StarClan cats and Dark Forest cats share hunting grounds? Maybe they can't get hurt or die there, or maybe they're all magically converted into better versions of themselves. Idk, I just think that would be really cool

Leafstar, though a good leader, is pretty boring as a character.

Agree. She could use a bit of development. I mean, she was kind of most of why SkyClan's Destiny was so boring.
The leaders have forgotten how to give cats good warrior names, and the queens don't know how to give their kits good prefixes. *cough* please fix this Erins *cough*

Disagree for sure! That arc was awful ._.
Millie can communicate with dogs, why doesn't she teach the rest of the cats to do that too? Maybe they could have a dog in the Clans. That would be so cool! Probably name him Houndpaw and have him be in WindClan tbh

Splashtail is an interesting villain, but his name makes it difficult to take him seriously.

Agreed. Names like Tigerclaw, Brokentail or Darktail made those characters stand out and made me wonder if they were a villain right after their first appearance. Crookedstar's Promise is one of the best SEs, because it shows a different kind of life than most Warriors protagonists get. For Crookedstar, it really seems as though life hasn't spared him from anything.

They should make something unique to Windclan, if not the tunnelers than something else to make them stand out more as a clan

Agree, I think the Clans should have more emphasis on their cultural differences in general because it makes them more interesting individually. They've kind of homogenized lately; modern ShadowClan is basically ThunderClan 2.
Uh... I think Shadowsight being severed from his StarClan connection was cool from a writing perspective even if it was kind of retconny, I think considering his narrative is about being a "corrupted chosen one" the reveal that he was never a real "chosen one" at all really worked for me. I know some people see it as "kicking him while he's down" but I think being so completely severed from Ashfur and the avenue Ashfur used to abuse him (visions, prophecies, the spiritual role of a medicine cat) is, overall, more cathartic for me, and I'm a huge fan of Mothwing so it's cool having another med cat who works without StarClan's guidance.

Agree - I love Shadowsight and he is just a king
Nightheart should be transgender - a little explanation here- I think that he really should’ve been trans because he already didn’t want to be like is great grandfather so why not just also make him trans?
|
|
|
Post by wygolvillage on Mar 16, 2024 12:36:42 GMT -5
Oops sorry to double up on posts but I HUGELY AGREE. Nightheart is a character who rejects an imposed social role put upon them at birth, changes their name to reflect their identity (also that scene where they admired Nightcloud's name is very... gender envy?) and is put at odds with their more traditional family, who eventually learns to understand them. That line from Sparkpelt, something like "I tried to know Flamepaw but I want to know you as Nightheart"? I dunno, the whole thing feels very much like a trans allegory. And I love it!
As for my next opinion I feel like the clans would be more interesting to read about if there were more jobs and ranks for cats than just warrior, med cat and sometimes mediator. I feel like apprentices getting to have a little angst about what they'll get picked for + the opportunity to have more varied perspectives, duties and events within the clans than just patrolling and stuff would be a lot more engaging! (I'm also blatantly ripping off the "chaw tapping" stuff from Guardians of Ga'hoole lol)

Agreed! I'd also like to see her get more fleshed out though.
I wish there was more elaboration on how Hawkheart became a medicine cat, especially since the only other warrior who became a medicine cat after being a warrior for awhile was Mudfur, unless I'm wrong about that. All we know is that he was a fearsome warrior before Starclan called him to be a medicine cat. (Which is really interesting because most warrior apprentices that became medicine cat apprentices and vice-versa were described as not being good at their training, meanwhile Hawkheart was "the fiercest" warrior in Windclan.)

HARD AGREE
While on that topic, we were robbed of Tawnystar imho. Like, Tawnypelt even got literally asked in RoF to step in and replace Rowanclaw as leader after Tigerheart went missing iirc but nope, her son still gets the position instead.

Lionblaze in the PoT is an interesting character.

Post by wygolvillage on Mar 17, 2024 7:56:21 GMT -5
Agree to an extent! I like him more than most. I understand why people call him boring but I feel like it's because the books don't focus enough on the interesting parts of his characterization, like Ashfur being his mentor, his intrusive thoughts, his "online roleplay" with Heathertail, etc. Like those things are there, but they don't dig deep enough and I wish they did! If that makes sense.
Another Lionblaze-related take: Lionblaze was most interesting to read about during TBC when he was struggling with the leader position and dealing with his violent impulses and desire to kill Shadowsight. It made perfect sense for his character and feelings about Ashfur for his emotional state to end up being that way.
