Once they got to McDonalds, Ives peered inside. “Do you think they have outdoor seating? I always feel so stuffy inside, like everyone’s gonna try to cough and me and watch me eat my food,” Ives explained, a small shiver running down his spine. It was stupid, and he knew it was stupid, but he didn’t like feeling like a bunch of strangers were watching him eat.

To be honest, Noah hadn’t thought much about seating arrangements. He shrugged. ”Not sure, but we can check.” From here he couldn’t see any outside seats, but maybe they were just out of sight right now. If anything though, they could just take their meals to go and find a park or somewhere to eat if Ives would prefer that.
Ives nodded, heading inside. “So what do you want? I can never decide between their nuggets and their burgers,” Ives admitted. Which usually resulted in him buying neither or switching between the two.

As plain and simple as it was, Noah was more than likely going to get a burger. He liked the nuggets, but today didn't feel like a chicken nugget kind of day. "A burger, probably. What about you?" He asked, curious to know what Ives was going to get. Plus, he kinda needed to know so that he could order and pay for their food. "If you can't decide, you can get both, or three things, the whole menu even. Go wild." He offered a playful look towards the other guy, though while playful, he was also somewhat serious. If Ives wanted the whole menu, then so be it, Noah would order the whole menu without a second thought.
Ives blinked, looking to Noah. He could get both? He had never gotten both before, was he even hungry for both? How much McDonald’s could he even eat? Without thinking he nodded his head and blurted out “Both,” before he could stop himself, however, as soon as he said it he shook his head, remembering that Noah had already offered to pay. “Er, no, how about...um, a burger works,” he suggested.

Noah couldn’t help but shake his head in amusement at Ives’s indecision. He wouldn’t say it out loud, not right now, but he would go ahead and get both the nuggets and burger, and if Ives couldn’t eat them both, then Noah probably could, and if he couldn’t, then it would be a fun treat to bring back home for Blitz, or Crawley or Kristoffer. ”Any drink or fries?” He asked, wanting to make sure he knew the order completely before making it.
“Fries, if that’s okay, but I’ll just take a water for a drink,” Ives said, already feeling a little sheepish for asking for fries. At least the waters were free, so he didn’t mind asking for one of those. “What about you?” He asked, looking at Noah.

Noah could tell that Ives wasn’t the most comfortable with Noah paying for his food, but he honesty didn’t mind paying for things, and this was just fast food, there was no way this was going to put even a minuscule dent in Noah’s bank account.
But he didn’t press Ives, and instead he headed toward the counter to start ordering. ”Probably a whole meal, the whole shebang,” he told Ives before looking away and preparing to order.
Ives nodded, stepping back to let Noah order the food, though he made sure to drop at least a dollar in the tip jar, it wasn’t much but it was something. After that he started to look around, spotting a door that led to outdoor seating not too far away. He smirked and nudged Noah, gesturing to the door. “Can we eat outside?” He asked, looking back towards Noah.

blah blah noah ordered, im not rping that Once he had finished ordering, Noah looked over at Ives, feeling him give a little nudge. "Ay, you found a spot. We can totally eat out there," he answered. Noah honestly had no problem where they ate, but if Ives wanted outside, then outside it was.
Ordering food is boring, we know what they ordered Once the food was ready, Ives helped carry it outside, sitting down at a table that seemed to be in a good spot. Now, considering they were in New York in the winter, it was a little chilly outside, but not too bad. “Alright, which one is mine?” He asked, rubbing his hands together as he looked at the food.

Noah took a seat, getting comfortable. It was a little chilly, but nothing he couldn’t handle. ”Looks like…this one,” Noah replied, pushing what was more than likely Ives’s food towards him, using his other hand to take what had to be his food over closer.
Once Ives had his food, he dug into it, he had honestly forgotten how hungry he had been before. “Thanks, by the way, for offering to pay for it, that was nice of you,” he added, looking back towards Noah.

Just like Ives, Noah got out his food and started getting into it, enjoying the taste of greasy fast food. He knew it was bad for him, but it was a guilty pleasure of his, especially since getting to America. ”It’s no big deal. Money isn’t hard for me to come by.”
Ives wasn’t sure how much money Noah had, but he didn’t seem to struggle with it either, he was probably like, a suburban kid who grew up in a three story house and had a little TV in the car for long trips. That would make sense. “So, your accent, is it German?” He asked in between bites.
Post by Feathertalon on Jun 30, 2021 10:10:39 GMT -5
Noah couldn’t help but smile between a bite of burger when Ives mentioned his accent and even knew what it was. It wasn’t like it was a hard accent to decipher, but he still couldn’t help the spark of joy it brought him.
”Ja,” he replied with a nod. ”I bet you don’t hear many German accents, so mine probably stands out.” Since coming to the United States Noah hadn’t met that many other Germans, but a few were around, and it was always interesting to meet them if anything.
Ives smiled when Noah confirmed that’s what his accent was. “That’s pretty cool, I don’t have much of an accent, it comes out a bit more when I’m home,” or so he had been told anyways, he was still inclined to believe he didn’t have an accent at all. “Why’d you come to Frontier?” He asked.

Noah's interest was piqued when Ives mentioned his own accent. Of course, just about everybody had one, but he hadn't really heard one from Ives other than just what he had grown accustomed to hearing from the other Americans he had been around. "Where are you from?" He assumed not from here considering Ives had mentioned how his accent came out when he was at home, implying he lived and grew up somewhere else.
At Ives's own question, Noah shrugged. "I wanted to get away from my parents, if I'm being honest, so I signed up for a study abroad program, and got accepted. I planned to only stay for that school year, but plans changed, and I've been here for about four years now," he explained, taking another bite from his burger once he had answered.
Ives paused for a moment. “Where am I from?” He repeated. He usually didn’t get asked that. “Oh, I’m from here, in New York, born and raised, but my English is actually my second language,” he explained, shrugging simply. He actually spoke English more than Spanish in recent years, but that didn’t change the fact it wasn’t his first language.
Ives listened as Noah went on to explain why he was here. He could understand wanting to get away from family. “Oh, can I ask why you wanted to get away from your parents?” He asked. “Unless that’s too personal, you don’t have to share,” he added quickly, not wanting to pressure Noah into answering.

This was all really interesting to Noah. Most Americans only knew one language - English - and never went on to learn a second. It was also interesting to hear that English was actually Ives’s second language. ”What’s your first language, then?” He asked, genuinely curious. Noah was probably fluent in whatever language it was, and could easily hold a conversation with Ives.
As the conversation went back to his reason for leaving, Noah shrugged as if this was a causal topic to linger on. ”They had extremely high expectations.” That was probably an understatement. Saying they had high expectations was making them sound bearable. ”I met most of their expectations, but there’s only so much somebody could take…” He then trailed off and looked away as if something else had crossed his mind after saying that.
“Oh, it’s Spanish,” Ives explained with a small shrug as he took a bite out of his burger. He didn’t speak it very often, but it was still his first language and he could slip into it easily.
Ives listened as Noah mentioned the expectations, he...he couldn’t really relate, probably not in the same sense. “Oh, I’m sorry, that probably sucked,” he said, pausing for a moment when he caught Noah looking away. “You okay?”
Post by Feathertalon on Jul 2, 2021 21:53:56 GMT -5
Spanish? He could see that. It made sense to him. ”I know Spanish, too. It’s not my first language, obviously, but I’m fluent.” Learning different languages had been a very important part of his childhood. Luckily for him all the languages had come easily to him.
Rather than fall too deep into thought, he was snapped out of it when Ives asked if he was okay. ”Hm? …Oh, yeah, I’m fine. I was just thinking about something…someone,” he corrected himself.
Ives smiled slightly, leaning forward. “You speak Spanish? That’s cool,” he said, and probably said something in Spanish too but I don’t wanna look it up or use Google translate so use your imagination. “Who were you thinking about?” He asked, head tilted to the side.
Post by Feathertalon on Jul 4, 2021 22:11:11 GMT -5
Without missing a beat Noah responded back in Spanish, eager to continue the conversation regardless of what language it was in. ”Its one of the many languages I had to learn,” he explained. Noah knew a lot, and he had been fortunate enough to be gifted with the ability to learn easily and quickly. But he knew not everybody was that lucky. ”Just thinking about my sister,” he admitted after a moment, looking at the half eaten burger he had. He hadn’t meant for things to turn in this direction, but it’s where his mind had went once it traveled down the topic of parents.
Gonna claim that Ives said something else in Spanish too. “How many languages do you know?” He asked curiously, head titled to the side. Ives only knew the two. Spanish and English, but he was curious about how many Noah knew. He was also curious though, about Noah’s sister he just mentioned. “You have a sister?” Ives asked through a mouthful of food. ,
Post by Feathertalon on Jul 5, 2021 13:09:40 GMT -5
”I know ten right now that I’m fluent in,” Noah answered simply as if this wasn’t some huge feat. Languages had always come easy to him, and learning a new one was no problem for him. It had been a while since he had last tried out a new language, so maybe it was about time.
He hadn’t meant to bring up family and everything, but talking about his parents had made him wonder about his sister. He hadn’t heard from her in a while. Last he knew she had been upset with him for deciding to stay in America, but she had been upset for different reasons than their parents had. ”Yeah. She’s still in Germany, though.” Unless she had run off to some other country, which wouldn’t surprise Noah, but he had to wonder just how well that would even work out for her if she tried doing that.
Ives blinked. “Ten?” He asked in amazement. “That’s so many! I have a hard time with just two, how do you manage ten??” He asked, stunned. Ives knew some people who knew a couple languages, but ten was on a whole other level.
He paused though when Noah brought up his sister. “Are you guys close?” He asked curiously. He had never had any siblings, though all of his friends did, it left him curious on the different sibling dynamics.

Noah shrugged Ives’s amazement off as if knowing ten languages was just commonplace. He knew most people knew one or two languages at most, but how he grew up it was practically required to know more. ”Languages come easy to me, plus my parents made sure I knew a good amount of languages so I could speak to important people when I needed to.” For him learning languages had been fun, even if they had come with a ton of pressure.
The next question about his sister had him pause for a moment. He liked to think they were close, and they had had a close bond before. ”Well, we haven’t really talked much since I moved here.” It would probably be best to check in on her, especially since it had been a while since he had done so.
Ives didn’t think he would ever get over the whole “I know ten languages” thing, but for now, his interest had mostly been piqued by the mention of a sister. Quietly, he took a bite out of his burger and nodded along. “Oh, that makes sense, she’s probably busy too, huh?” He asked, glancing down towards his food. He hadn’t spoken to his family in a long time...not that he wanted to though.

Noah thought about it for a moment before shrugging. He honestly had no idea what his sister had been up to in the last few years, and he realized that maybe he should try and reach out to her at some point - if she would even answer him back. ”She probably is, but I haven’t done a good job at keeping up with her.” He stopped to take a bite of his food, his mind on his sister and what had been going on back with his family in Germany since he had left.
