End of an Era Duskstar looked on in horror from the hills of WindClan. Fire burned around her in every forest. Not a tree didn't seem to be ablaze with the orange danger. She didn't know how the fire started or where it started. All she knew was that ThunderClan, ShadowClan, RiverClan, and her own territory of SkyClan were completely gone. The she-cat hung her head in despair, wondering if anyone else survived. Duskstar had tried so hard to rally her clan, to pull them out of the blaze. But it had snuck up in the middle of the night. She prayed to StarClan that more than the five or so other cats she was with made it out. A call behind her made her snap her head up. A WindClan warrior ran up next to her, his own eyes fearful. "Duskstar! Is this all that made it out?!" The brown warrior asked. "Yes Rabbitleap. I don't know who else is left..." She rasped, looking back over the lake and at the fire. Rabbitleap coughed hard. Even though WindClan's territory had been mostly untouched, WindClan had raced into the blazes to try and rescue cats. So far, few had returned. And the smoke was still rolling thickly around them like a dense fog. The tom could only look on at this point and wonder if his clan was lost too. Out of the corner of her eyes, Duskstar spotted movement. Jerking her head and taking a few steps, she spotted a few cats managing to escape the fire from the ThunderClan border. She couldn't recognize the cats, but she was hopeful. It didn't matter if they were from her clan. She just prayed that this wasn't the end. A nudge had her turning her head to Rabbitleap who was nodding to the RiverClan border. Cats were slowly walking towards them as well. Hope flared violently until she realized just how small the numbers were. That was no full clans, or even half a clan. They were all just survivors. Tears stung her eyes as she could only bow her head. What was to happen to the clans now?

Duskstar stared over the lake for several more heartbeats, letting Blizzardtail's words sink in. With a sigh, she stood and turned, padding back to the WindClan camp. "We will be returning back to SkyClan territory," she told him. Her face was serious, showing she was not joking around.
Rumbledsong shook his head. "No. I have a feeling Duskstar was waiting all night to see if anyone else appears. She's never given up on anyone." The tom lifted his head to scent the wind. "The fires are gone at least. Let us see if Rabbitleap will allow us to hunt for everyone. It is only fair we help with prey when they gave us shelter."
Troutsplash wrinkled his nose. He wasn't a big fan of rabbit. "I will leave the prey for the queens, kits, and elders. I shall be fine until we get some good news, Leafstar. You should eat though. You are the leader here."
Dogpaw nodded, staring after Firepaw. "I can't really blame her though for being defensive. There's only three RiverClan cats, Beechpaw. If that is all that has made it, RiverClan is going to be in trouble. How will they defend their territory?"
Whisperpaw's eyes flew open as she leapt into the air, as high as any SkyClan cat. Her fur was bristled, and her eyes wide as she spun around trying to figure out what was going on. "Wha-Where?" The she-cat was clearly confused and disoriented.

SkyClan Blizzardtail set into step beside his leader, his gaze steady. "Yes. We need to look for survivors. I'm sure the other Clans are of similar mind." He commented as he began the trek back to the WindClan camp. The air outside smelled parched and sooty, and the acrid tang of ash still hit his tongue. Though the flames had died out, their effects were still clear, even out here on the moor. His mind flashed with thoughts of their clanmates. Had any of them made it out? Surely there were some. Though they had found their way to WindClan, perhaps other cats had fled in other directions? It wasn't optimistic judging the range of the fire, but he had to hold out hope, until the territories had been thoroughly searched.
Goldenshine relaxed visibly as Rumbledsong reassured her of their leader's safety. For one wild moment, she had thought they'd lost their leader, too. She couldn't imagine what the remaining SkyClan cats would do without Duskstar's guidance, and she was grateful that StarClan hadn't taken their leader for them. She couldn't imagine how it felt for the three Clans whose leaders hadn't made it. No deputies had made it out either. At least for now, ShadowClan, ThunderClan, and WindClan remained completely leaderless. Shaking away the troubling thoughts, the golden she-cat bounded over to where Rabbitleap had emerged from the warrior's den. The WindClan warrior looked tired and unkempt. But then again, she realized, so did every cat. "Rabbitleap!" She called out, dipping her head in greeting as she padded up to him. "Rumbledsong and I were wondering if we could have your permission to hunt in WindClan territory." She mewed. "The fresh-kill pile is running low and we'll need our strength..." She trailed off, not really knowing what they'd need the strength for. To find their Clanmates? To accept they were gone?
RiverClan Leafstar seemed about ready to protest, until she decided she might as well. They all needed their strength. She looked over at the fresh-kill pile, and her nose wrinkled slightly at the sight of rabbit. She could only dream of succulent fish at the moment. "I shall. But you will join me, Troutsplash." She mewed with a glance at him, slightly filled with amusement. "I'm not going to be able to stomach this rabbit alone." Without waiting for a chance to argue, she padded towards the fresh-kill pile. Nosing among the remnants of the prey, she picked up the leanest rabbit she could find. It wasn't fish by a long mile, but it would have to do.
WindClan Beechpaw pondered the question for a moment. "I don't think they can, Dogpaw." He mewed as he watched he retreating apprentice. He then turned to his denmate. "How will we?" We only have 2 cats more than them, and only 1 warrior. I don't think any Clan is in a place to worry about defending our territories right now." The words felt hollow, but it was true. Three Clans didn't even have Medicine Cats anymore. Only SkyClan had more than one warrior, but no apprentices to move the Clan forward. Things seemed dire for every Clan, and not for the first time, he hoped Rabbitleap would decide it was safe to return to the forest, to look for survivors.
ThunderClan Duststorm rested his tail across the young apprentice's shoulders, hoping to calm her down. "Relax, Whisperpaw! It's okay. You're safe." He soothed. He motioned across the camp. "We're in WindClan, remember?" He wasn't surprised that she was on edge. She was barely into her training, and this was a situation that would even throw off the most seasoned warriors. "Look, there's still some mice left." He prompted, hoping the thought of food would help calm her. "Why don't we get something to eat?" He offered. He needed to eat, too. He'd already decided that morning that he was going to return to their territory and look for any survivors. The fire was gone, and he would no longer put off a potential rescue.

Duskstar sighed. "I pray that we find some good news in all of this. I think everyone needs it." The leader turned around and began to pad back towards the WindClan camp. She needed to get Rumbledsong and Goldenheart ready in order to turn back to their camp. They needed to assess the damage, see what they could do now, and where to start rebuilding. If we even can, she thought. Maybe Leafstar and I need to talk about a plan of action for the clans. After all, right now, we are the only leaders left.
Rabbitleap looked at the SkyClan warrior in front of him before looking over at the fresh-kill pile with the other clans around it. Part of Rabbitleap was bristling at the fact that they were taking his clan's hard earned prey without even bother to ask about it or check if the surviving queens, kits, and elders needed anything. With an annoyed snort towards the other clans, the tom turned his gaze back to Goldenheart and Rumbledsong. "Of course. I will send Beechpaw out with you. He's nearly ready to be a warrior. We can consider this his assessment..." Rabbitleap's voice trailed off for a moment before he shook his head. "Beechpaw! Dogpaw!"
Troutsplash wrinkled his nose before nodding in agreement. He wasn't happy about this. But his leader ordered it so it must be done. The tom grabbed onto the rabbit and moved it a bit away from the fresh-kill pile. He set it down between the two of the them and slowly took a small bite. Fur and tough muscle were hard for him to chew instead of the smooth scales and flesh of a fish. He chew for several heartbeats before gulping it down.
Dogpaw sighed heavily. "I just don't know. We've always been five separate clans. We've always been able to survive on our own and toughen out the worst. We've had borders and battles and deaths...can we really forget about that? Can we really put the past behind us to try and make it all together? And will it remain? Will we continue to be together, or will we separate when we have recovered? There's just a lot..." The apprentice trailed off. His eyes misted over for a moment as if briefly caught in a trance before the cry of Rabbitleap calling our their names snapped him back into reality.
Whisperpaw blinked at Duststorm slowly calming down. The she-cat seemed to be more in control and present yet not fully aware. She blinked down at the mouse in front of her without a reaction. The apprentice looked back up at the tom before slowl lowering her head and eating the mouse without much enthusiasm. She wasn't the same apprentice she was before, that was certain.
Ryeflight poked her head out of the den. She had plans to bring Quailcall and Snowflight and her kits some prey. It might taste a bit stale or smokey, but all three of them needed to eat. However, upon seeing the RiverClan and ThunderClan cats eating most of the prey left, the she-cat was annoyed. And she wasn't afraid to voice her opinion. "Well," she said marching over to look the strangers in the eye. "You all might want to punish your apprentices. No one came to see if the queens had been fed this morning before the fresh-kill was all gone." The she-cat pawed the two pieces left: a rather stale rabbit and a mouse. "It seems we will have to wait for the hunting party that SkyClan is helping with. How nice of them." With a fierce look in her eye, the she-cat spun around and made her way back into the nursery.
Viperfang, who had watched the whole scene from beside the camp entrance, bristled angrily and Ryeflight's words. "How dare she! We are not responsible for feeding her or WindClan! We have our own clans to try and take care of!"
(So idea... I'm thinking that maybe Dogpaw can start getting kind of visions from StarClan? Maybe as a way of bringing hope? Also, I think I'm going to take the few NCP we had mentioned and kind of create an allegiances, so we can reference more NPC. And we can see just how badly they were all affected.)

(Okay. So for SkyClan it would have to be my SkyClan apprentice that's gonna be found in the rescue. Dogpaw for WindClan. For RiverClan it can be either Firepaw or my RiverClan apprentice from the rescue. Whisperpaw for ThunderClan? Only one thats a bit awkward is ShadowClan since they have no apprentices and no apprentices planned to be rescued.)

Named cats: Hedgestar - WindClan leader Flowerbreeze - WindClan deputy Dewlight - WindClan medicine cat Oakgaze - SkyClan's depuy (Confirmed deceased) Wrenstar - ThunderClan leader Bravewind - ThunderClan deputy/Quailcall's mate Willowstem - ThunderClan medicine cat Beestripe - RiverClan medicine cat Brackenclaw - Shellfur's mate Toadpelt - Snowflight's mate (Confirmed deceased) Swifthawk - Ryeflight's mate
Shellfur and her kits to be added: Shellfur - Small bluish-gray tabby she-cat with amber eyes. Shellfur is a practical and cool-headed cat, but is kind to other cats, and has a soft spot for queens. She had miscarried her first litter, and as such, takes particular interest in the care of other pregnant queens. Robinkit - dappled tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat with amber eyes and a fluffy, feathered tail. She's an impulsive and hotheaded cat who isn't afraid of saying what's on her mind. Cricketkit - light brown and cream tabby she-cat with green eyes. The most diplomatic and level-headed of her littermates, she's soft-spoken but assertive. Hopkit - Large cream-colored tabby tom with white paws and a white muzzle, and blue eyes. He's energetic and a mischief maker, always prone to try and sneak off on his own to explore. He doesn't respond well to orders, and prefers a more free-handed approach. Rainkit - small bluish-gray tom with deep blue eyes. He's quiet and timid compared to his littermates, and prefers to be left to his own devices. He's also quite frail and sickly, and has been prone to debilitating coughs since he was kitted.
Cas to be rescued: Wild: RiverClan deputy, RiverClan warrior, ShadowClan warrior, SkyClan kits (protected by their deceased mother) Sky: RiverClan warrior, RiverClan apprentice, ShadowClan warrior, SkyClan apprentice Wrensar: Was taken by twolegs after the fire, presumed deceased, reunites with Clan later

They find out they have to band together, at least for now.)

(Oh yeah I can see that. What were we going to have them do regarding the territory? Since it seems like its going to be unlivable from now on? Are we going to have them try and resettle there or move to a new place?)
SkyClan As they neared the WindClan camp, Blizzardtail looked meaningfully at his leader and friend. It was clear that despite everything, Duskstar was still holding the weight of their Clanmates' deaths on her back. The thought that they were with StarClan brought him little solace. So many cats gone in one fell swoop. His friends, family, comrades. It still weighed heavily on his heart, and he was sure, the hearts of all the cats who had survived. "I will support you however I can." He meowed simply. "And I am sure Rumbledsong and Goldenshine will as well. SkyClan will endure." I hope. He added to himself silently.
RiverClan At Ryeflight's angry outburst, Leafstar looked down at the rabbit before them. It was pretty much untouched, and they couldn't really stomach it if they wanted to. The food would be much better spent on the queens and kits. Though her own belly screamed in protest, she wouldn't deny food from the vulnerable of a Clan, no matter which Clan they may be. Exchanging a glance with Troutsplash, she picked up the rabbit and padded to the nursery. "Ryeflight!" She called out. Padding up to the queen, she dropped the rabbit in front of her and dipped her head. "Take mine." She meowed. "I haven't yet touched it. It should make a good meal for you and the little ones. I apologize for our insensitivity during this difficult time. We have all suffered losses." She added meaningfully. RiverClan, after all, only had three cats. "Our apprentice," she meowed with a glance to where Firepaw sat crouched. "has not eaten since last morning. She took no prey for herself last night, nor has she eaten this morning. And surely, you wouldn't begrudge ThunderClan's apprentice, barely out of the nursery herself, a single mouse?" She pointed out. Her gaze was compassionate and soothing. "RiverClan has not forgotten the kindness your Clan has shown us. I will be joining the next hunting patrol as well." Dipping her head to the queen, she padded over to join the SkyClan cats.
ThunderClan As soon as Duststorm saw that Whisperpaw was eating, he got to his paws. It was quite disheartening to see the normally chipper apprentice so downtrodden. He made a mental note to speak with Willows-no, Tigerpaw, about it later. Giving the apprentice a comforting lick on the ear, he padded over to the forming patrol. "I'll hunt, too." He meowed. "I'm ThunderClan's only warrior, but we will contribute." He added stoutly. He wouldn't put Whisperpaw through the paces during this difficult time, but he refused to let the other Clans think they were weak. His gaze flitted towards the nursery, where Ryeflight had disappeared, and his pelt prickled slightly. Between their discussion the previous night, and now this, she seemed to always find a way to get under his fur.
WindClan Beechpaw looked a bit conflicted by all of the intricacies between Clan politics. Like Dogpaw, he couldn't imagine a world without five Clans. Yet, with so few Clans, what choice did they have? "I don't know, Dogpaw. Can WindClan really survive on our own? Can any of us?" The question was hollow and bleak, and he didn't have the answer. Thankfully, Rabbitleap's call interrupted them, and he padded over. "Yes, Rabbitleap?" He meowed curiously, glancing at the cats from other Clans who were now gathering around them.
ShadowClan A long, feathery tail ran along Viperfang's shoulder as Snowflight padded up to join him. She had just gone on a walk, leaving her kits under the capable supervision of the other three queens. With everything that had happened, she had needed some air and time to think. She had returned just in time to witness the incident. "We're all worried, Viperfang." She mewed softly. "She's just thinking about her unborn kits. Her mate is gone, and she'll have to raise them herself, in a devastated Clan." Just like I do, now. She thought sadly. She blinked at her Clanmate. "Don't hold it against her. She's doing the best she can, just like the rest of us." Giving him a meaningful look, she padded past him and into the Camp.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Duskstar nodded. "I sure do hope so, Blizzardtail." The she-cat ducked into the camp to find most of the cats up and about. Had it been any other day, it would look like a normal clan full of warriors, apprentices, and kits. Warriors were looking to do a patrol, and cats were getting ready to start the day. A pang flashed through her when the truth was so much harsher. With a flick of her tail in greeting to all, Duskstar made a bee-line to Leafstar, overhearing the other leader planning to hunt. "Leafstar, may we talk first?" she asked.
Rabbitleap dipped his head lowly to the RiverClan leader and to Duststorm. "We thank you for your kindness." When he saw that Duskstar wanted to talk to the other leader, he turned to the other warriors and the WindClan apprentices. "Beechpaw, consider this your assessment. Take the SkyClan cats hunting near the ThunderClan border. With any luck, their might be a few squirrels around. Dogpaw, go with Duststorm and Troutsplash, to the bushes near the Moonpool. There is usually some mice or voles to be found around there. I will wait for Duskstar and Leafstar to find prey in the hills."
Troutsplash nodded to Rabbitleap and turned to Duskstorm and Dogpaw. "Lead the way," he said calmly.
Dogpaw looked at Beechpaw with excitement. They were leading patrols! With warriors following them! Even through it all, excitement tingled in his paws. This was his chance to prove to Rabbitleap and the clan that they were ready to become warriors. Well, probably Beechpaw more than himself. Still! It was great! Beaming, the tom turned to the two warriors and bounded to the camp entrance. "Let's go! The bushes are near the far side of the territory."
Ryeflight's eyes softened as she turned her head to Whisperpaw, seeing the lost look in the young apprentice. She signed heavily. Bending down, the she-cat grabbed the rabbit and gave the RiverClan leader a look of thanks and acceptance. Without another word, she quietly accepted the apprentices eating and was grateful for the rabbit to feed herself, Quailcall, Snowflight, Shellfur, and the kits between them.
Viperfang showed no sign of being ok with anything. With a snort, the tom spun around and disappeared out of the camp with one thought in mind: get to the ShadowClan territory.
(I'm thinking for a while, they will try to survive on their own before realizing they can't. Then they will find a territory they can all share/work off of and survive.)

(Perfect! I like that.)
SkyClan The heather at the camp entrance rustled, and Goldenshine looked up at the noise, to see Duskstar and Blizzardtail both lope back into the clearing. The golden-brown she-cat let out a soft sigh of relief, and motioned to Rumbledsong. "They're okay!" She mewed. The two cats had been gone the whole night, and while Goldenshine had trusted that they would return safely, the niggling worry that their already decimated Clan would suddenly be cut in half had remained. It would be a big weight off the other two SkyClan warriors' shoulders, not only to see them return safely, but to have their leader back as well. Both cats looked as downtrodden as every cat felt, with ash and soot still clinging to their pelts, their fur matted and patched as a result of sleeping outside.
RiverClan Leafstar sighed softly as she watched Ryeflight retreat into the nursery, making a mental note to bring more prey back for the nursery. The rabbit was plump, but it would not be enough for the number of cats there at the moment. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Viperfang, the only ShadowClan warrior, disappear out of camp. He'd been the only warrior out of the Clans to not offer to join in the hunting. Every cat seemed to be on edge, not knowing what lay ahead, but seemed particularly bad for the Clans whose leaders had not survived. A familiar meow brought her attention back to the present, and she spotted Duskstar padding over to her. The other leader looked rather worn out, and Leafstar took that to mean that no survivors had arrived in the night. "Duskstar. I'm glad you made it back." She meowed, dipping her head in greeting. "Of course, why don't we go up to Hedgestar's den?" She suggested. It felt strange to think about, but Hedgestar wouldn't be using it anymore, and it was currently the only place in the camp that was private enough for a conversation. The only alternative was to go back out on the moor, something the RiverClan leader wasn't keen to do any time soon. She glanced over to Rabbitleap, hoping the WindClan warrior didn't mind. As the only two remaining leaders, they needed to prepare.
WindClan While Beechpaw was excited that the time of his assessment had finally come, he couldn't fully share his younger denmate's enthusiasm, considering the circumstances. The most important question also hung over him like a cloud. How could he even become a warrior? Hedgestar wasn't a leader to not only give him his warrior name, but to commend him to StarClan as a full warrior. Was he even entitled to receive a name? And even if he did, would he really be a warrior? He couldn't think about it now. Cats were waiting for him. "Yes, Rabbitleap." He meowed, turning to face the SkyClan warriors. "Whenever you're ready." He mewed solemnly.
ThunderClan Duststorm snorted at Dogpaw's enthusiasm. Nothing like being led around a foreign territory by an overly excitable apprentice. Well, if Dogpaw thought the ThunderClan warrior would hop and skip behind him like an admiring kit, he was wrong. This was no time for games, there were cats to be fed and Clans to be attended to, now more than ever. "Go on, before all the prey starts hiding." He meowed unceremoniously. As he followed behind the WindClan apprentice, he shot a curious glance towards Troutsplash. He was perfectly used to hunting rabbits in ThunderClan, but he wondered how the RiverClan warrior would fare, considering the Clan's immense dependence on fish. Did he even know how to hunt other prey?
ShadowClan Swanflight shook her head slightly as she watched Viperfang disappear through the heather. Viperfang was curt at the best of times, and she hadn't expected the tom to make things any easier here. Yet, she had hoped he would have at leats held the responsibility to look after them in this time of need. She was now the only ShadowClan warrior left capable of hunting, and she had her kits to look after. She let out a short hiss of irritation. It was quite unlike her, but Viperfang's recklessness irked her. No matter. She would take care of the remaining ShadowClan cats herself, if she had to. Whipping her tail behind her, she padded back to the nursery.
