๐ Shaleheart || With Wolfmist and Swanfeather
Tail flicking with interest, Shaleheart stared at the white she-cat on Sunclan's side of the border. Wolfmist sounded just as surprised as he was to see Swanfeather alone; it was odd to find less than a patrol so close to the border. He glanced around, angling his ears to catch the sound of any other Sunclan cats lurking out of sight, but he heard nothing but birdsong.
"It's definitely her," he answered Wolfmist. "Let's see what she has to say."
Trotting up to the border, Shaleheart twitched his whiskers and returned Swanfeather's greeting.
"It's good to see a Sunclan cat out and about," he mewed. "What brings you to the border, Swanfeather?"

Pinkpaw | with Thistlepaw & Gerbilpaw
"Hey, not too shabby. We're getting a solid pile." Pinkpaw mused, standing to wander over. Even she wasn't above complimenting her friends work "But we can do better, we have to. We simply must beat the others." the she-cat nodded solemnly. She opened her mouth to continue speaking but paused. Her ears perked up and her head swiveled towards the trees "You hear that?" she slowly crept over, looking around until a buzzing sound was heard. In a nearby hollow tree trunk there were some bees. And bees meant honey!

The warrior lazed about in the sun, watching as the apprentices chatted excitedly among themselves. He could have asked what they were up to, but it was a right to cause problems when you were an apprentice so he let them be. Besides, they were all good cats. Whatever they were doing wasn't likely to be bad. Now they had been gone for a while, and a part of him wondered if they'd gotten lost.

Mallowpool | open
Mallowpool had returned from hunting with her apprentice and was now relaxing in a patch of shade, she had a half finished squirrel in front of her, and she seemed to be more interested in the birds flying above than her unfinished meal. Stretching out, she took another bite, figuring that she should at least finish it in a timely manner.

The quiet apprentice had seen his fellow apprentices, but hadn't moved to join them. They were getting quite close, and he hadn't wanted to break the mood they had going. Instead he was resting and cat watching. He wasn't very talkative, but he did enjoy watching the clan cats mingle and go about their daily lives.

Meadowsweet "Oh, I was hunting," Swanfeather responded flippantly, taking on an expression of mild irritation. "And, just my luck, the bird I was chasing just had to fly over your border!" She shrugged and gestured in the general direction her imaginary quarry had disappeared to. "Don't worry though, I'm not crossing," she added after a quick pause, not wanting to get into trouble with the other clan over something so silly as a made-up bird. "Anyway, are you two hunting as well?" Swanfeather didn't think she knew Shaleheart very well although she did recognise the older tom from gatherings. He was often spoken of as one of the strongest cats in Moonclan but he also had a reputation for being... well, prickly at times. Wolfmist, however, she was a bit more familiar with even if it was only because they were closer in age.

๐ Wolfmist nodded at Shaleheart and followed the warrior towards the border, standing still next to him on the Moonclan side. She dipped her head to the Sunclan she-cat in greeting. There was no hostility in the air, Wolfmistโs hazel gaze revealed curiousity and interest. โHmm, unfortunately prey doesnโt recognize our borders.โ She grinned and twitched her bushy tail behind her. โWe were just checking out the border.โ The Moonclan warrior explained, she didnโt want to tell Swanfeather right away that they didnโt trust Emberstar one bit. First theyโd need to feel her out on her opinion. Maybe she thought the same but she could imagine the Sunclan she-cat wouldnโt be too eager to talk badly about her own leader. โI hope you donโt mind me asking but how are things going? I mean without Rainfern around..โ She just blurted it out, she wasnโt going to tiptoe around the question that laid on the tip of her tongue. Her ears twitched a little awkwardly on top of her head. She didnโt really like to revisit the subject of Rainfernโs death, since she felt partially responible. That was one of the reasons her hostility towards Sunclan had faded too โ or at least towards itโs clanmembers for now. Plus, sheโd grown past petty squabbles about someone walking to close to the border.
๐ Thistlepaw padded up to Pinkpaw, perking his ears to take in the sound she was talking about. He gestured for Gerbilpaw to come over too. He could hear a soft buzzing sound coming from a tree. โOooh. Bees!โ The black apprentice exclaimed enthousiastically. โDo you think we could get some honey from their den? Hole?โ What did bees live in? He wasโt actually sure, he knew they could sting though. So theyโd have to be careful for sure. Morningleap would certainly have known a smart way to avoid getting stung and get the honey. What would his mentor do in this situation?

๐ Shaleheart || With Wolfmist and Swanfeather It was bad luck to have prey cross the border, but Shaleheart was satisified that Swanfeather had the sense not to run blindly over the scent markings after her quarry. He wondered idly if she'd caught anything before coming to the border, or if she'd be returning to her clan empty-pawed. Beside him, Wolfmist cut straight to the chase, inquiring about Sunclan's well-being. A slight shiver rippled through his pelt as his clanmate named Sunclan's fallen medicine cat. He hadn't been present at the tom's death, but he was all-too-familiar with the gaping wound such a loss could leave in the hearts of those who had cared for Rainfern. Wolfmist herself didn't seem comfortable uttering the tom's name; Shaleheart could tell there was more than polite concern or curiosity in her voice. "Things must be...difficult...for you and your clanmates now," Shaleheart added, watching Swanfeather carefully. (So I'm itching to introduce my other character Coyote/Coyotepaw to Sunclan. Is anyone available in Sunclan to witness her come screeching out of the water?? )

(Sorry for taking so long - had a very long and emotionally draining day.)โ๏ธ
Swanfeather Swanfeather watched them through cool blue eyes, her feathery tail flickering to and fro as she attempted to gauge the other cats reactions to her lie. When she sensed no immediate hostility from them, she allowed herself to smile. She wasn't particularly surprised that they were inquiring about Rainfern and Sunclan's well-being - in fact, it wouldn't have surprised her to learn that Briarstar herself was prodding for information on their state. "Well, it's going perfectly, of course. Why wouldn't it be when we have no medicine cat and a heavily pregnant queen?" Her voice was dripping with sarcasm and betrayed her irritation. She wasn't about to hold back her feelings on the matter, not even for these two Moonclan cats who probably wanted to hear that she was frustrated. Nor would she pretend that everything was fine or that Emberstar was being anything but a terrible leader in her clan's time of need. "'Difficult' is one way to word it," she agreed, "but no-one has died yet so I guess that's our silver-lining."

(Itโs totally okay Sussuru, donโt worry about it! I hope youโre doing okay. I love sassy Swanfeather by the way haha!)
Wolfmist nodded at Shaleheartโs words, her gaze travelling briefly from the Sunclan she-cat to the Moonclan tom and back to Swanfeather again. She didnโt look particularly uncomfortable about the subject, though as she listened to the warrior she became noticably irritated. Which was totally understandable in this situation. She was surprised Swanfeather showed her obvious dismay at Emberstarโs leadership. However, Wolfmist was glad that the Sunclan she-cat was honest and didnโt put up a fake front. Usually sheโd be the first one to appreciate some well placed sarcasm but today it made her cringe inwardly. After all, the clans lived together on this island and ones problems would certainly rub off on the other. Wolfmist shook her head and let out a sigh. โI guess it doesnโt look like Emberstarโs plans will change soon then.โ The Moonclan warrior concluded grimmly.

(I am, thank you! Aw, I'm glad. I haven't gotten too many opportunities to use her so it'll be nice to build some connections for her within her own clan.)
โ๏ธ
Swanfeather Swanfeather shook her head irritably. If only! She, herself, could be quite stubborn and prideful but Emberstar was something else altogether. What kind of leader leaves their clan vulnerable when there's a perfectly good solution right beneath their nose? He's practically digging our grave with his own paws. The more Swanfeather thought about this, the more heated she felt. In the past, she hadn't had much of an opinion on the ginger tom, however, she had thought him honourable albeit impetuous and inexperienced. Now, it was hard to know what to think about him. Something changed somewhere. He wasn't always like this... or was he? "If he doesn't, some cat will end up taking it into their own paws." Between angry clanmates like Feversoul and the deputy, Willowsong, there was no way Emberstar would get away with doing nothing. Frankly, I'm not far off giving him a piece of my mind either. "As you can tell, our patience is running in short supply."

Brightpaw Brightpaw gave an exaggerated shrug, all the while swivelling his ears to pick up the sounds of prey. "Alright, alright." He was very aware of Flashpaw's dislike of water and occasionally he did like to tease her about it. It amused him that she and her brother, Gerbilpaw, were so different in that sense. "At some point, I do want to go down to the water to look for shells and whatnot," he warned her. "I can do that by myself though. Maybe I'll find something nice for you to give to Thistlepaw... or Pinkpaw or Gerbilpaw." With that said, he turned his attention back to the hunt. (Just pushing this across for Ember34 ^^)

Moonclan Flashpaw-Forest-brightpaw "I would like that thank you Brightpaw," she said, deciding to take him up on the offer. Though she would love to get something to give to her brother herself, she knew he would probably enjoy something that would remind him of water, then anything she would find on the land. She scented at the air to see if anything was near by for them to try and get. "Though Thistlepaw seems to have someone special. How about you? Or are you just focusing on completing your training?" Maybe getting to know him more would help in finding something to give to the older apprentice. other ones will be up soon)

Brightpaw Suddenly, without answering Flashpaw's question, Brightpaw trotted off into a clump of nearby foliage. He crouched there in silence for a few heartbeats until his quarry was in sight and in range, then he lurched foreword to administer a quick killing bite. The tom ducked back out of the undergrowth with a mouse swinging from his jaws. He made sure to bury the small creature before returning to his denmate. "Someone special, huh?" He echoed, his head tipped slightly to one side. "No, I'm free as a bird - no romantic entanglements whatsoever. Don't have many friends other than you guys either..." His voice trailed off as he considered. There was his mentor, he supposed, but she was distant and only ever spoke to him if the topic was his training. "Maybe I haven't tried hard enough," he laughed self-deprecatingly. "What about you? I'm sure you have a bunch of special cats."

Sunclan: Emberstar-Leader's Den-Willowsong Emberstar flicked his tail before wrapping it around his paws. "I'm fine," he said, a little snappish. He hated that everyone was acting like he didn't know what he was doing. He has led his clan well, and gotten them through a lot. They trusted him then, they should be trusting him now. If Dawn and their ancestors had issues with how he was leading Sunclan, they would have shown a sign by now. But there wasn't one so clearly he was doing what was best for the clan. Ripplecatcher-Camp-Meadowsweet "Hey Meadowsweet, Willowsong wants us to go on a patrol," he said to her. He dropped his voice a bit more to avoid cats overhearing. "It will be good to get Pinestripe out now, while Willowsong is keeping Emberstar distracted." He hoped the she cat would agree, his gaze flickering over the camp. "We should take Tigerpaw and Amberpaw with us if you agree to that." It was a good idea to bring the two to one make their patrol look more official and two let them say goodbye to Pinestripe. (couldnt remember if willowsong or meadowsweet where the ones to mention to him to bring them along for the patrol ahhh and i wouldnt know where to look) i believe that is all rn)

She pulled her ears back, ready to shout a retort after the tom, before she caught the faintest scent of prey. She kept herself quiet to avoid messing the tom up or alerting what he was attempting to catch. She perked her ears up when he came back. "Hmm suppose that is what happens when you are older then all of us," she said to him. "I'm sure you will be able to find someone when you get made a warrior. And even if not romantic it will still be an opportunity to be getting friends." She looked away at his comment. "I know for sure I want to get something for Wolfmist for putting up with me so much, and of course something for Gerbilpaw." She thought it over as she scented for another source of prey. "I do want to be able to get something for Thistlepaw but he seems to have eyes for Pinkpaw." She gave a small smile, she was oaky for the most part, just meant she had something else to tease the tom about.

Brightpaw "Sure," Brightpaw agreed, falling back into step beside her. "If I used the full extent of my charm, I'd already be friends with everyone." He was joking but her words had made him think. Perhaps his dedication to his training, his perfectionist tendencies, had stunted his relationships within the clan. If that was the case, becoming a warrior may well open up new connections for him and that couldn't be a bad thing. He shifted his focus back to Flashpaw as she continued. "I think you're right," he answered in regards to Thistlepaw's affections for Pinkpaw. That said, he could've sworn that Flashpaw was the one Thistlepaw was interested in until the other she-cat had been brought up. "I can't really imagine Pinkpaw falling for someone like him but, who knows? Maybe opposites will attract..." There was a short pause before Brightpaw turned sympathetic and slightly pitying yellow-green eyes on the other apprentice. "It's admirable that you aren't trying to get between them. Must be tough, watching him moon over her."โ๏ธ
Meadowsweet Meadowsweet turned away from her sister, giving her one last comforting nuzzle then, to Ripplecatcher, she said, "Yes, alright, let's not hang around here too long. Do Amberpaw and Tigerpaw know where we're going?" She glanced over to the two apprentices who were still chatting across the camp from them. "If not, we can explain as we walk." Her face had become serious now. It was important that they were careful right now otherwise Pinestripe could be put at risk. She pushed herself to her paws and took a couple of steps toward Ripplecatcher.
(It was Willowsong, I believe ^^)

"Let's get some honeycomb!" Pinkpaw suggested, eyeing the log eagerly. She'd had honey once before, and it was delicious! But getting stung... that wasn't exactly something she wanted to happen "Maybe if we grab some and run to the water they can't sting us?" grab some comb, drop it on some leaves so it wouldn't get wet or dirty, and dive into the water. Not exactly a good idea, but it was the only one she could think of.

(Sussuru, glad you're doing okay! Sparkscatter, I'm going to throw Coyote/Coyotepaw in here and if you're down to have Koipaw and maybe Mallowpool find her, that could be fun!)
๐ Shaleheart || With Wolfmist and Swanfeather
Shaleheart's ears pricked at Swanfeather's irritated tone. Taking it into their owns paws? The Sunclan cat might only be letting her frustration show, but if her words were serious then some sort of coup might be brewing in Sunclan.
He glanced at Wolfmist, trying to choose his words carefully. Not for the first time, he wished for a cleverer tongue.
"Are you saying there are cats willing to take up the title of medicine cat?" Shaleheart tried to think of any Sunclan cats with enough knowledge of herbs to care for a pregnant queen. A sudden coldness sucked at Shaleheart's paws as he thought of all the things that could go wrong during a kitting. For a heartbeat, Shaleheart thought he could scent blood; alarmed, he held his breath for as long as he could, then tentatively breathed in air scented only with border markings and the green smells of the forest.
Coyote || Open
The water was everywhere. Coyote struggled, adrenaline pulsing through her only to be dampened by wave after wave of exhaustion as she clawed her way through the lake. She hadn't had the time to register just how much water filled the gap between the mainland and the island; it had seemed barely more than a puddle, just a quick swim that would put some distance between her and what lay behind.
Fear crowded her mind and she cried out; immediately, water rushed into her mouth and she flailed, desperately trying to clear her lungs and breathe. Ahead, the island seemed to bob on top of the waves, agonizingly close. You can make it, Coyote, she thought, her father's voice filling her mind, Just one paw at a time. Still coughing, she kicked out, pulling herself ever closer to land.
Pushing her head above the waves, she fixed her eyes on the island and wailed, "Help! Please help!"

Even the quiet apprentice would get bored after sitting around for so long. He'd watched his clanmates move about for a while longer before wandering out into the territory. He'd noticed the rough waves, a part of him wondering if Moonclan was having similar conditions. Though it was unlikely due to their position on the island. The waves made him shiver, remembering when he'd gotten swept out into the lake a moon or so before. It had been terrifying, and a part of him missed the kittypet lifestyle. Not that he'd ever mention it to anyone within the clan.
Before he turned and returned to camp he heard it. A voice? Cold dread chilled him to the bone as his eyes widened. Was that a cat in the water? He could see the head of a cat bobbing in the waves, a cry of help just reaching his ears over the water splashing against the shore. She was close, closer than the distance he'd swam out earlier today.
A cold chill froze him in place, his throat tightened and it felt like his paws were frozen to the ground. The fear of rough waters felt like it kept him rooted in place. But when the she-cat cried out again he moved. All things considered, he really should have gone for help, he wasn't a strong swimmer compared to a warrior. But would the other cat last that long? He dove into the water, pushing against the waves and swimming out towards the other cat.
Once he reached her he grabbed her and hauled her her head above the water "Swim!" he grunted, paddling alongside her. With their combined strength, they should just be able to make it.

A gust of wind whipped across the lake, and a crest of water broke over Coyote's head. The force of the water pushed her under and she twisted blindly in the cold darkness. The current gripped her. She was aware for a heartbeat of wishing only that her tail was still long, and then she knew she was going to drown. Please be quick, she prayed, and then something rammed into her. Air swept over her head as teeth hooked into her scruff and jerked her upward. She caught sight of patched white fur and rounded, yellow eyes, then heard her rescuer's command. Trusting him, and vaguely recognizing that her weight could drag him down, too, she poured the last of her energy into her aching legs and swam. Finally, her paws scraped against pebbles and sand, and she scrambled weakly onto the shore. She crouched, sodden fur fluffing out in all directions, and vomited brackish water. Heaving air into her burning lungs, she whirled and gazed out at the lake. The water was broken only by white crests of waves and, far out, a single duck floating idly. Finally, her breath recovered, she looked at the tom who had rescued her. "Why-," she started, then corrected herself. "I mean, thank you. If you hadn't come, I think I would've swallowed the lake."

โ๏ธ โThatโs good.โ Willowsong meowed coolly, brushing his snappy behavior off with a twitch of her tail. She wasnโt sure what kind of answer she expected from the ginger tom so sheโd settle for this. โSo, I know Feversoul has been disrespectful to shout at you but shouldnโt we consider him for the role of medicine cat?โ The brown she-cat suggested, her blue gaze resting on the leader to try to sense which way his mood would go. She wasnโt sure why they hadnโt taken the tom in consideration for the role before. Maybe Emberstar had forgotten about it too.
โ๏ธ Pinestripe watched Ripplecatcher and Meadowsweet with great interest. This would be it.. Her green gaze travelled over to the leaderโs den. Her fur prickled with unease. What if Emberstar suddenly stepped out of his den? What if he caught her before they crossed the border? With a shake of her head she averted her gaze back to the two talking warriors. Stressing about it wasnโt going to help her now.
๐ Thistlepaw pondered for a moment. Pinkpawโs idea was creative but he wasnโt sure whether it would be safe. He didnโt want to just brush her idea off though. โHmm.. we could try that.. or what if we dropped their โdenโ from the tree and wait for the bees to fly off from a distance? And then weโd grab some and run to the water just to be safe.โ He meowed and glanced over to Pinkpaw to see what she thought of his suggestion.
๐ โHmm, I can imagine.โ Wolfmist grumbled thoughtfully as she took in Swanfeatherโs words. The affirmation of how bad of a situation Sunclan was in had made Wolfmist realize how serious this was. At first sheโd just felt frustrated with Emberstarโs antics but now it had grown into full on worry and anxiousness. It was like something bad was bound to happen and even though Moonclan was privileged in this case, it just didnโt sit well with her. Her hazel gaze met Shaleheartโs pale blue gaze for a heartbeat. The warriorโs eyes revealed a mixture of emotions, Wolfmist couldnโt quite put her paw on it. She turned her attention back to Swanfeather, waiting for her answer.

Swanfeather Swanfeather frowned and leaned back on her haunches, glad of the catharsis that came with finally being able to speak her mind on the matter. "At least one cat, yes," she responded, sounding less angry now, though still with an indignant glint in her eye. "There might be others, I don't know." Feversoul was the only cat she knew who wanted to take up the position but perhaps there were others. It wasn't a line of inquiry she had bothered with. She paused for a moment, noticing that Shaleheart looked slightly uncomfortable. Not that she could determine why. Did I get a little carried away? Either way, I do feel... marginally better. "Don't mind me, I'm just talking casually to you two since we're here, a coincidental meeting at the border and all that. As upset as some of us are, there are still cats who think Emberstar has a plan and, well, I'm not inside his head. Wouldn't it be lovely if all this frustration ended up unfounded?"

๐ Shaleheart || With Wolfmist and Swanfeather
Even though the scent of blood had faded from Shaleheart's nose, he couldn't fully push away the dark feelings coiled in his gut as he thought of the Sunclan queen. He focused hard on Swanfeather's face; she certainly seemed irritated, and what cat wouldn't be with such a mousebrained leader?
He cleared his throat, afraid for a moment that his voice would waver. "It would be nice for things to be how they used to be on the Island," he mewed. He thought back to his days as an apprentice, then as a young warrior, before so much in his life had changed. The Island had felt truly equal then; there had been peace, but when a fight was necessary, there hadn't been any guilt in defending one's clan with tooth and claw. Now, Shaleheart felt as if raising a paw in defense of his clan could mean only unjust death in Sunclan.
Gritting his teeth, Shaleheart growled, "We're all hoping Emberstar finds his sense again, before it's too late."

โ๏ธ Coyote || With Koipaw
Coyote fidgeted as Koipaw's eyes narrowed, but she felt relief when he asked only for her name.
"I've always been called Coyote. I saw a couple of 'em, once, and I'm not nearly as scary-looking as those yappers!" Yappers had been her father's word for the coyotes that ran through the night on the mainland; she'd spent many an evening with him perched safely in tree branches, listening to the wailing songs of far-off coyote packs.
Koipaw's other words didn't make much sense to her. Sunclan? Apprentice of what? "Say, what's Sunclan?" she asked, glancing around. "There're more of you here?"

Pinkpaw | with Thistlepaw
"Hmmmm, that'll probably work. There's a bit sticking out that we should be able to swipe without causing a huge swarm." she narrowed her eyes up at the nest. Pinkpaw then took a moment to move the flowers from her pelt to another leaf, not wanting to get them wet "I'll climb up! It was my idea. You grab the honeycomb that I drop." she suggested.

Koipaw | with Coyote
Never in his life did he think he'd be explaining the clan to someone. He'd just learned about it himself not long ago. Koipaw pondered over her question before answering "It's a group of cats that live together and protect and provide for each other." he finally decided on, keeping it short and to the point.

โ๏ธ Coyote || With Koipaw
The calico tom seemed to hesitate a moment before giving a brief answer. Coyote flicked her ears, pondering the idea of a clan. She and her father had cared for each other, of course, but other cats she'd met had been hostile or, at best, indifferent.
"Are you all related or something?" she asked, a flame of curiosity flickering to life in her gut.

Sunclan Emberstar-Leader's Den-Willowsong Emberstar glarred at her his fur bristling out. Was this type of discussion really going to happen again? He stood up as he stalked a bit further inside his den. "He is not fit for it, he doesn't know anything in regards to herbs, we might as well just shove one of Pinestripe's kits in there when they are born," he growled out, digging his claws against the floor of his den. He shifted his gaze back to Willowsong as he settled back into a sitting position. Ripplecatcher-Camp-Meadowsweet Ripplecatcher shifted his gaze away from Meadowsweet as he watched the two apprentices in question. "I don't believe they do," he answered her. "I'm going to go and help Pinestripe over, do you want to fetch them?" He knew they had to be careful, but this also needed to get done as quick as possible, Willowsong could leave at any moment from the den, and so could Emberstar. "Or if you want to get her, I can go get the apprentices?" The grey tom flicked his tail nervously. Moonclan Flashpaw-Forest-Brightpaw "I'm sure even your charms will only get you so far," she commented to him. She looked away at his words, her ears pulling back a bit. "It will be fine, as long as we can still be friends and hang out even if they do end up becoming mates, I'll take." She didn't want to ruin either of the apprentices from being happy if a relationship was potential between them. "And sides like I said, I have something else I get to tease him about." She thought it over though, the two were polar opposites. Pinkpaw was confident with everything she did, and Thistlepaw was well...Thistlepaw. She flicked her tai as she paused, catching the scent of a bird. Crouching close to the ground as she moved away from Brightpaw to attempt to catch the winged creature.
