/// Bearswipe ///
w/ Walnutstorm & Waspstrike on a forest path
Bearswipe stiffened, caught off guard by Walnutstorm's line of questioning. Wide hazel eyes softened into something somber and reflective, the big tom had never truly thought of it before. Instinctively he felt like replying with a bright 'of course' but Bearswipe had never been asked directly and know he really thought about it. "I loved what me and my sisters had before... but I don't know how to do that anymore and it feels a bit like a betrayal to trade them for another family." his voice was soft and his gaze on his paws as he stood back up. "But.. yeah I think I would love being a father."
Images of kits with his patterning flooded his mind, or would they look like his sisters? What about his mate? Bearswipe barked a laugh at the sudden thought, yes what about his non-existent mate? "I think finding a mate would be the harder part... I'm not even sure if I'll ever be that to someone." Berswipe finally lifted his head and met Walnutstorm's gaze. A soft, sad grin gracing his maw. "Though I think I would like that too."
Shaking his out his thick coat Bearswipe let the leaves clinging to him scatter in a explosive burst, his chuckle following soon after. "Why has someone caught your eye? Should we all be expecting a brood of moody kits?" Bearswipe laughed deeply at his own teasing, eyes twinkling as they regarded his former apprentice. A pang of something filled his chest at the thought of Walnutstorm with kits tripping over his paws, it would be good for the normally solemn tom, he needed a cat who could fill that void his own family had left.
Another pang rang through him and his expression faltered a bit. Was it jealously that he felt? that wasn't fair to the young tom Bearswipe told himself, it wasn't Walnutstorm's fault he'd sat on his tail all his life and never made a move on any of his clanmates.
* Wildmane *
w/ Nightstar & Lightfall in the forest
Wildmane had looked to the trees when her fellow clanmates slunk into the underbrush and was climbing one fast as a cat may run across the ground. In a heartbeat and she was in the canopy, her amber eyes searching the veil of leaves for any sign of movement.
Silently the small molly crept through the treetops, over branches and through various bundles of leaves, her form reminiscent of the panthers of the jungle, all save the wild and bushy outline of her black pelt. It wasn't long before she spied a cardinal, its bright red feathers doing little to hide its form against such a vibrant green background. Yet before Wildmane even had a chance to approach it a warning yowl pierced the air, the sound stirring both her and the bird into action. Wildmane sat up, long ears flicking in the direction of Nightstar's voice while the cardinal burst from it's perch in fright.
This time Wildmane did not slip through the treetops like a panther but instead crashed through them like her brothers namesake, creating quite the racket as she did so. It was only when the sounds of battle emanated from directly below her did the she-cat grind to a halt. Bounding down into the lowest branches Wildmane sprang from the final one with caution thrown to the wind, her recklessness rearing its head once more in the heat of battle.
Free-falling the black molly's eyes scanned the situation below her and twisting mid-air she aimed for the fox attempting to flank Lightfall. With a mighty crash she landed on the foxes back, the creature crumpling under the fierce blow. The action threw Wildmane however who's grip was not well enough aimed to keep seated. Just as quickly as she'd fallen Wildmane soared threw the air and collided with the gnarled roots of a nearby oak, subsequently knocking the wind from the she-cat.
Wildmane was already struggling to her paws, despite how dazed she was, her open maw gasping futilely as she tried to focus her swimming vision.
... Dewdrop & Nightkit +
w/Hawkit, Nightkit, Sunkit, & Mintkit in Nursery
Dewdrop bristled, an abnormal show of aggression from the peaceful she-cat but in truth the former medicine cat was tired of being questioned at every turn. "Enough." She snapped and stood, shaking moss from her pelt. "We don't talk bout these things, not until you're older. If you four push this I'll make you sit and listen to the elders till sundown." It was unfair to use the elders company as a punishment but Dewdrop didn't know what else to do, they were still so young.
"Now come, all of you, lets join Applenose and her kits." Not allowing room for argument Dewdrop used her nose to push along her kits. Once outside the pale gold she-cat stretched a bit before picking her way over to the fresh kill pile. Her pelt prickled and Dewdrop had the nauseating feeling of being watched which she steadfastly ignored, used to the looks by now.
Nightkit tripped a bit as his mother pushed him along but once she passed I'm to take the lead the sickly little tom stole closer to his brother and cast wary glances about, unsure if he wanted Hawkkit to protect him or if he'd rather being doing that for the bigger kit. "You're right of course Hawkkit but I think we should keep quiet about it for now, I think mama might box our ears if we pester her again." His eyes darted to their mother to ensure she didn't hear. "I think mama wants to go too, she just doesn't know it yet. We can make her see!" he exclaimed quietly, so close their thin, soft pelts brushed. A rare smile twisted on his maw which was small and conspiratorial.
~Swansong~
w/Scorchstreak near the farm
Swansong grunted, not really disagreeing and sat up, pulling away from him a bit as heat pickled her pelt. "Whatever." She mewed petulantly and settled her angular head over her front paws. She was still curled in crescent just within Scorchstreak's precense but had pulled away enough that it wasn't so intimate.
For long moments Swansong stared out across the farm and the clouds racing by, feeling the warmth that seeped from his equally large form. It was peaceful and for the first time in awhile Swansong didn't feel like taking that peace between her claws and tearing it to shreds. She could just sit and be, instead of letting bitterness swell in her heart as she watched her siblings go about their lives, hale and whole. She didn't have to bristle at a clanmate to remind them she wasn't some feeble charity case. Scorchstreak had already proven immune to such postering and despite how much Swansong resented him for it... she would be all alone without him.
No matter how many times she snapped or snarled, he was right there snarling back. It was infuriating and yet, an empty feeling swept over her at the thought of him being like the rest of the clan, so ready to abandon her. Other than Pecanfeather but it was simply his job and it was clear that she was driving him up the walls of his den.
"Why are you here?" Swansong asked and winced at the way her voice was hoarse and weak.
< Sharpsight >
w/ Pecanfeather & Lightningstrike entering Medicine Cat Den
Sharpsight's relaxed posture stiffened, his ears perking as Pecanfeather came towards him and asked after the patrol to the Starcave. Did the medicine cat believe he'd been on that patrol as well since he'd come in shortly after Lightningstrike? He'd actually been wandering through the forest at dawn on a lax hunt, if it could even be called that. Though the tom was dedicated and proud of his warrior duties, he also knew that sometimes a cat just needed some time for themselves. On this "hunt" he'd accidentally stumbled upon an seemingly untouched, thick patch of borage and their starflowers. After enjoying the beauty for a few moments Sharpsight had decided to return to camp to alert Pecanfeather.
The normally quiet tom struggled with the sudden spotlight and his mind churned with how to explain. When Pecanfeather settled at his side however and turned to face Lightningstrike, Sharpsight finally realized he'd not been the one the medicine cat had been addressing. A soft, inaudible huff escaped the larger tom as his ears relaxed once more. Patient but serious eyes leveled themselves at the clan leaders brother, Sharpsight perfectly willing to hear the story before sharing his own news with the medicine cat.
* Lilykit *
w/ Applenose, Tigerkit, & Firekit in camp
Lilykit noticed her family's departure only when her brothers yowls in competition rose in volume. Ears perked the molly whirled around and padded after, a pouting look overtaking her face. "Who cares about the biggest! Want something tasty!" Lilykit yowled after her brothers, not willing to actually break into a run to catch them.
