i absolutely HATE the warrior names of applepaw and woodpaw... appleshine? woodsong? really?
there's too many cats with the suffixes -shine and -song...
here's the list of cats with the suffix -shine now: Puddleshine Violetshine Appleshine Willowshine
here's the list of cats with the suffix -song now: Fernsong Nectarsong Woodsong
And if you wanna include prefixes, then there is currently a Songpaw.
back int he day, shine and song would be considered unique suffixes, but now a days it's becoming just like the suffix -claw (which there are currently 8 warriors who have the suffix) or -whisker (7 warriors, 1 with it as a prefix, whiskernose).
im sick and tired of them using song and shine. now that u've read the spoiler section what would you name apple and wood instead? here are random names i came up with: Applepaw- Appleberry, Applecloud (after Nightcloud), Appleflower, Applemist, Applerose, Applewillow, Appleseed, Appleshade, Applestem, Appletooth, Applethorn Woodpaw- Woodscratch, Woodfang, Woodbark (funny just like Smokehaze lol), Wood-dust, Woodcreek, Woodfire, Woodshade, Woodslip, Woodthistle, Woodstalk

I have already commented this in two other threads but cannot do so enough because my naming choices for them would've been Appledusk and Woodclaw.
Another cat who shares a name with a character from Mapleshade's era, besides Frecklewish, just seems interesting in my opinion.

Appleshine is a pretty name and I love Woodsong. They're really cute names imo. All the song names are welcome to me.

True. But that would have been far too much work for the authors and editors of the Warriors series. I mean, they can't even keep up with the family relationships at times (Willowpelt and Patchpelt) or if kits are old enough to be made apprentices (Molepaw and Cherrypaw were almost a year old when they finally got their upgrade).

Even if the authors, who apparently check the Warriors Wiki for further information, somehow finally realize that it would be good idea to name characters in more unique ways the final decision on that would still be with the editors and Harper Collins. At least their rejection of the name Sparkfire was included as a joke after her actual warriors ceremony.

I actually really like the names for both.
But if I had to choose another name for Appleshine: Appleseed, Applebloom, Appleblossom

I like the names, but I agree that -song and especially-shine have been a bit overused later. For I Applepaw, I like Appleseed, Applebloom, and Appleblossom. For Woodpaw, I can think of no other name perfect for her than Woodstalk. The opportunity was right there!

While the name Appleshine doesn't bother me at all out of context (it's actually really pretty and I like it), I do groan every time -shine is used.
-song doesn't bother me since it's primarily been used for minor characters (including this one). I would have preferred Woodflame though.

I rather like these names and think they work well for them, but I do agree that -shine and -song are getting a bit overused now.
But if I had to rename them, I'd choose Applefall or Applefang, and Woodstock/stalk or Woodstorm.

i agree that there's been an overabundance of -shine and -song lately (i find 'shine' to be particularly boring at this point, though i still love violetshine's name), but i'm not too fussed with these names. when i see the name woodsong, i think of the sound of wind blowing through the leaves of a tree. maybe not the most fitting for a windclan cat, but i think it's rather beautiful.
for applepaw, i like applefang, applestem, appleseed, and applebloom (lol). it's a name that goes well with a lot of the prefixes. applefang would be nice since i think it's an unfortunately underused suffix. maybe she's a tough fighter, just like her dad.

I don't read the current books, but even though -shine appears to be overused, I like both of these names. They're cute. Pretty much this, I like both the names too but I do see shine used way more lately, and it's starting to become as common as "heart". When I think of Appleshine, I think of a bright red, ready to eat apple, that's probably really tasty. But when I think I Woodsong, I think of the whistling noises from the forest that probably comes from the trees and the breeze. They're kinda unique names on their own, even if the suffixes are overused.

I don't read the current books, but even though -shine appears to be overused, I like both of these names. They're cute. Erins seem to have a bad habit of liking a suffix or two and reusing them. I share that habit. -eyes Birchfrost, Applefrost, and Tigerfrost-

Applewhisker. That's what I wanted her to be named before her name was revealed. (I mean, I just really like whisker suffix, I wanted Dewnose's name to be Dewwhisker. It's so cute ;- I don't have much of an opinion for Woodpaw. But maybe Woodfrost, Woodmist, Woodleap, Woodstalk, Woodpelt, or Woodfur.

From an in-universe perspective, I find it hilarious that we're having name trends. Reminds me of a forum I'm a part of about names in general and how a lot of suggestions end up being repeated as they've fallen into favour. It'd explain why certain suffixes are falling out of favour for new ones as the clans change.
I think Woodsong is a great name that makes some reference to the name of her father, being the sound wood makes when a breeze runs through it. Appleshine is also nice, but I would say it isn't the most imaginative out there. It could be nice to name Applepaw after her mentor but Applewing doesn't sound great, nor does naming her after Smokehaze, her elder sister. Perhaps giving a "classic" suffix could be nice, Applefur, Appletail (after her mother), Applenose. Considering neither of these cats are likely to be important however I think these names are fine. We once had 12 cats named "-fur" (and perhaps more, only checked one book on a whim) so I think having a few -songs and -shines are okay. If they were main characters I would perhaps choose something else but we've also had Fireheart and Brambleclaw which are very safe warrior names so it would be fine for me as long as it fits the character (remember when Squirrelflight's name was considered strange? Wild times).
Haha, now I'm just picturing her Warrior name being Appleeyes, I weirdly am not against it.
