to read- fantasy adventure, history, and sci-fi to write- I have no idea what the genre is called, but here's a lil snippet of what I enjoy writing. I guess its descriptive pieces? The grass is silk-soft beneath your bare feet. Tiny ants scurry to and fro, looking for nourishment. Take a couple steps over yonder, past that small hill. What do you see now? A hay field in the distance. What else? Wildflowers everywhere. Poppies and daises and petunias. Cerulean, onyx, rust, periwinkle. All the colors blend together. There's a babbling brook nearby, shall we walk to it? Come on then. You pass a boulder sticking up from the ground. Brush your hand against it as you walk by. Feel its roughness and warmth. Soon its behind you. What's that? The creek, of course. Singing its ever present song. Its just a bit further now. Your feet are a bit dusty now, but that's okay. There's some wild calendula behind that tree. But I don't write just stuff like that. I've got so many wips.

my favorite genres to read tend to be fantasy, sci-fi, and literary. Also occasionally delve into thriller/horror.
Writing is actually mostly the same. Fantasy, sci-fi, literary, occasional dashes of horror. I guess the one different thing is i have attempted to write mysteries even though I barely read them.
Reading exclusively your own field of writing isn't that great for growth as a writer tho :/ so I've been trying to read other things as well, namely nonfiction books on history and science, they're just not what I gravitate toward on my own.

I mostly read fantasy/sci-fi/horror/psychological/drama type stuff? My writing tends to turn out fantasy/sci-fi usually. Currently the book I'm writing is primarily sci-fi (I think. I'm actually bad at nailing down genres ngl) which is funny considering I'm VERY picky about what sci-fi I read.

Sci-fantasy for writing. I like exploring worlds where magic and science are both coexisting or even read to be as one-in-the same. Especially like writing about places that aren't earth cause earth sucks.
Sci-fi, fantasy, and dystopian in reading.

I read mostly mid-high fantasy or "space opera" style sci-fi. I've recently been a lot more picky with what I like tbh, but also been slowly coming out of my comfort zone (I recently read a modern political drama and that was really cool)
Writing, I usually stick to "d&d" style fantasy. It's a blank slate that can go anywhere, so it's a good medium to work with. I wish I could write modern slice-of-life; I think I use fantasy aspects as a crutch to artificially give characters and plots more depth when the important parts are 2D. I've been slowly working on reducing my works to bare bones and trying to give a strong structure instead of relying on complexity, politics, and magic (and the "fantasy world" excuse) to conceal the flaws in my characters and worlds.

I don't read enough, lol. I always wish I could branch out and read more genres, but I've been reading Wheel of Time since May of 2020 and I'm still only on Book 2; that's how slow I read. So fantasy for me, just by virtue of it being the only thing I've read for the past three years.
Writing goes in two camps. As far as actual writing, like an actual story goes, I mostly do contemporary short stories. Just normal people going about their normal lives, but learning something new and/or profound. I'm fairly good at this and it's what I submit to creative writing classes for grades, but I wouldn't say I enjoy it quite as much.
The main thing I like to do is plan fantasy novels. I don't like actually writing scenes, but I love worldbuilding, developing magic, creating characters and their lives, and even figuring out plotlines. But actually writing is hard. I struggle a lot with the "subtle integration of worldbuilding rather than infodumping" concept. (Actually, the concept I get just fine, it's the execution that's lacking)

I like detectives. My favorite book is Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. The story is described so realistically that it seems to you that you are also now in Australia and watching the events. Every story of the main characters touches the soul and you are sincerely worried about them. It is an engaging story filled with murder and mystery. The idea is very interesting. On the first page you will find out that the murder happened. But throughout the story, you have no idea who is the victim. At the same time, the genre cannot be called a detective story. A fascinating book about relationships.

When I used to write, it was mainly adventure and fantasy stories. I love to let my imagination roam free. The story that I'm gonna adapt into a visual art form is adventure and fantasy.
