hallway of doom an enemies-to-lovers rp
-- ❃ --
at a classic academy for young mages, the head of the art club and the head of the science club are constantly butting heads. competition rules their relationship, and for these complete opposites it seems like that's how it will always be. however, when the two of them land themselves in a creepy hallway on a dare, they are forced to work together to survive the horrors hidden behind those doors.

ZAN WINQUALLscience club president || 17 years || they/them Zan is a tall, lanky fellow with long blond hair that they keep slicked back with gel. It may give them a slightly nefarious appearance but it keeps their hair out of their face, which is really all they care about. They have dark blue eyes and a large hooked nose. A light splatter of freckles fall over their pale face. They wear turtlenecks and a single hoop earring - if they could go around wearing a white lab coat they would.
First impressions: Zan likes rules. They like the structure, the certainty, and the comfort that comes with the knowledge that everyone is on the same page. They are very much an enforcer, and knows how to get (most) people in line - it's this detail-oriented organization and confidence in their own abilities that led them to climb to president of the science club in their senior year. Of course, it's not just their iron fist that keeps them in control - they genuinely care about the people around them and is loyal to a fault. They put their money where their mouth is, follows through to the letter, and keeps their promises to the end. They also possess an enthusiasm and passion for science and math - again, taking comfort in understanding the world around them to the smallest molecule. When it comes to magic, they are very interested in figuring out how to control it, specifically how to give it rules, as magic is notorious for breaking the rules of space and time.
Zan is an eldest kid. Specifically, the eldest who has been tasked with parenting looking after their little siblings while their parents struggled with money and alcohol. Academics is an escape, both from their family and as a road to college. They are torn, though, as they love and are terrified for their family if they were to leave, but at the same time is desperate to become their own person. They work a job at the local library to help their family out on top of their studies and club responsibilities, and is close to burning out.

Landry Finch
Art Club President // 17 // he/him
Description:
Landry is a thin lad of average height with lightly tanned skin. He has medium length blonde hair that has a slight wave to it that makes it look kind of messy, but he pulls off the look well. His eyes are a dark green and almost have a cat-like quality to them. Other students are unsure if it’s natural or a spell since shape-shifting magic is his specialty. He has a light smattering of freckles across the bridge of his nose but they mostly blend in. Along with slight eye makeup and trendy clothes, he is seen wearing a mischievous grin on his face most of the time. Currently dresses like an e boy but don’t call him that or you will be sorry.
Personality:
Landry is a bit of a trouble maker, doing whatever he wants when he wants and not worrying about the consequences. Despite his streak of delinquency, he is actually quite smart, seeming to get top marks in his classes without even really trying. He mainly looks out for himself, but he does care slightly about his art club members because if the art club looks bad then that will reflect badly on him. His eye for detail and art theory brought him up in the ranks of the art club. He gives excellent feedback no matter what skill level another student is at. He would never say someone else’s art looks bad, he isn’t that cruel. Art is subjective anyway. He isn’t afraid to get messy and is often seen leaving the art club covered in charcoal or paint. What he loves most about art is the unpredictability of it all, much like some of the magic that they study.
Being the middle child at home, Landry loves being the center of attention at school. He loves being the one his club members come to for help. He just likes the feeling of being needed by others and isn’t sure what he would do if he were somehow abandoned by his peers someday. But that would never happen, everybody loves him, except for a certain rival of his.

-- ❃ -- Zan strode down the hallway with purpose, fiddling with the buttons of their coat sleeve. Or, at least trying to while clutching a clipboard and a couple of book under his arm. Excitement pulsed through their veins - the start of an epic experiment, of properly managing magic, at their fingertips! Or at the very least the start of many epic experiments, all of which they'd been fundraising and planning their rear end off for as said experiments technically rose above the pay grade of a mere high school club, but Zan was determined to make this year, their year, different. They were going to win their club popularity. Heck, they were going to win that scholarship award for Scientific Scholarly Minds.
It all had to do with electricity, and magic's connection with it (quick and fast energy jumping through space? magic loves that kind of stuff!), but requires set-up of some large equipment. Which, of course, requires a large enough space to place set up said equipment. Lots of vials and burners and spinny-tubes. Plenty of buttons. Lots of big chunky levers. Some of it was borrowed from the science department, but a few aspects were designed and crafted by Zan's very science club! They were very proud of this fact. In fact, they figured that because of this, it would be a no-brainer for the school to approve their request to use the big room - besides, they were planning for a science fair event in the future, and needed to test the space, as it were.
It was after school, the final bell having rung just a few minutes prior. They had no work today. They had a couple of their club mates behind them to set up for the club meeting. Marsha was texting on her phone while Ebbie slowly trudged along with the cart full of scientific gear. Zan had the meeting agenda all typed out in bullet points. It was going to be great.
At least, that was the plan. Until they pushed open the door to the big room, and saw a very familiar head of blonde hair.
In hindsight, they kinda wished they said something cool to their nemesis, like narrowing their eyes and just going "Well well well, if it isn't Landry Finch." But they didn't. Instead they kind of sputtered, their brain going haywire and complaining that this wasn't the way it was supposed to go, and just sort of pointed and half-yelled: "What are you doing here, Finch!?"
-- ❃ -- ((going off of our idea that magic is incorporated into their studies, i was imagining magic to be this sort of sentient force that affects reality in funny ways, so it lets people fly or turn into animals or cast spikes of ice from their hand. so, when it comes to science, there's a some tension between scientists and magic theory - is it magic causing this weird phenomenon, or some scientific reasoning? how to control the chaotic magic?
however i am not a scientist so a lot of this will be me taking a tiny bit of creativity liberty x3))

Landry’s painted fingers furiously typed out text messages to one of his friends as he caught up on all the recent drama going around the school. Some breakups, lots of crying, it was exciting stuff and what made being at this school actually kind of enjoyable and entertaining. Plus he had some time to kill before club anyway.
When Zan came into the room, Landry was sitting in the center of the room on a cloth-covered stool on top of a movable raised stage that wasn’t that tall. It was figure drawing day today, and carts of easels stood off to the sides of the room. The large clubroom was the only one big enough to fit all the easels and the stage so everyone wasn’t on top of one another. A couple of members were there already moving easels around and picking the spot where they wanted to draw for the day.
Landry didn’t even look up from his phone when the doors opened and he started to speak to whom he thought were more art club members. “Grab an easel and pick a spot, we’ll-” then he was cut off by an oh so familiar voice.
Landry looked up from his phone at Zan and a grin spread across his face. This was definitely going to be more entertaining than breakup drama. “Zan, I didn’t think I was going to see you today.” He greeted as he stood up from the stool and pocketed his phone. “As you can see we are setting up for figure drawing. I didn’t think you’d be interested but it is club members only, unfortunately.” He explained to them then hopped down from the stage, his feet landing on the floor with a dull thud.
A quick glance behind Zan and he noticed the other science club members and the cart of equipment. “Oh, I see now.” He muttered his grin growing a bit wider. “Seems as though someone didn’t set up in the club room early enough and lost their spot.” He said in a mocking tone and a slight pout.
He took a step forward, looking at his nails as he talked. “I will let you know that I had all this down here in the club room by the end of lunch, I rolled it down here with a few other members.” He paused for a moment then looked back up to look Zan in the eyes. “Where were you?” He asked. He wasn’t even sure when the two of them even became rivals. They had just a general dislike for one another from day one. And he will admit that it was pretty fun to tease and mock Zan.

-- ❃ -- Zan nearly snapped the clipboard under their arm in half. "Well, Finch," they said, smiling too tightly with their right eye twitching, "you see, there's this little thing called reserving a room. I've already requested this room. For today. At this time. You can't just wander in and claim 'first come first serve', that's not how it works."
"Whatever, let's just reserve it again tomorrow and call it a day," Ebbie muttered from behind Zan, slumped over the lab cart and scratching at black-painted fingernails. "It'd be a pain in the butt to wait for them pack all their easels."
"There are rules for this kind of thing, Ebbie!" Zan was trying very hard not to shriek in indignation. "Otherwise all the clubs would be fighting constantly for the big room! If no one followed proper procedure, it'd be anarchy!"
"It is kinda unfair," Marsha said, but was looking over curiously at the art club's set-up. "Why is figure-drawing club members only? Can you make an exception?"
"Marsha!" Zan threw a hand over their heart, appalled at such a traitorous statement. They whipped around, glowering at Landry. Oh, the bane of their existence. Dealing with Landry was like driving thumbtacks under their fingernails. "You did this on purpose, didn't you?" Zan seethed, clutching at their books. They tried to push up their glasses, a nervous tic, only to stab themself in the nose. Of course. They forgot they were wearing contacts today. "You knew I had this room reserved, and then 'had all this in the room by the end of lunch' just to mess with me. 'Lost my spot,' pah, forgive me for not rushing down here because I foolishly believed some people still had respect for the rules!"
Their tirade was interrupted by a loud bang in the distance, followed by a freshmen flying past the open door, screaming and sobbing in terror. Zan threw their hands in the air, nearly dropping everything in their arms. "And of course someone went into the creepy hallway again!" they cried. "Even though entry's been banned for months! Does no one care about obeying anything anymore!"

Landry couldn't help but smirk slightly as the science club members were somewhat ignoring their president’s protests of his ‘unruly’ behavior, seemingly want to stay out of what was going on between himself and Zan. He didn't blame them, their arguments could be pretty heated over stupid little things, but they were fun.
He couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes slightly at Zan. So obsessed with rules. If anyone knew Landry they knew he wouldn’t bother with reserving a club room in advance, pesky paperwork was pointless. Not to mention that the art club activities changed daily to whatever Landry was feeling that day. There was no set schedule or agenda, just go with the flow fun, and creativity. The only scheduled thing they did was a gallery at the end of the semester, but that was it.
Landry’s eyes glanced out to the hallway when a screaming freshman came running down the hallway. He then took a glance towards the clock on the wall. Assuming they went in at the end of the school day, they didn’t last very long. Poor kid probably went in on a dare. Nobody came out of that hallway unscathed. Landry was always curious about what horrors lay behind that door, it can’t be as scary as everyone thinks. He was sure he could last longer than that measly record of 3 minutes. He was Landry Finch after all.
Back to the matter at hand. Landry’s eyes slid back over to Zan once they were finished with their little tantrum.
"I actually had no idea you had the room reserved, I don't think about you every day despite what you may think. I have a life you know.” Landry said honestly as he took another step towards the science club president. It was true, he felt like doing figure drawing today so that’s what they were doing. He was only thinking about his own club and how they could get some good practice in. “The fact it did mess with you was just a bonus." He added with a grin.
"Your compatriot does make a good point though," Landry said as he pointed over at Ebbie before shoving the hand into one of his pockets. "We're already set up down here, it would be pointless and take too much time to pack up everything and leave. And my members already know to come here, if I changed locations now it would just be a big confusing mess." He said with a wave of his free hand. " And if we left, then that would also mean no more figure drawing and I wouldn't want to disappoint my club members." He said turning Zan now into the bad guy for even wanting the room back even though they had reserved it in the first place. He was sure Zan wouldn’t want the whole art club upset at them, the president was already enough to drive them crazy. "Your science-y stuff can't take up too much room, I'm sure the other club room will be just fine." He said with a shrug as he gestured to the cart of things. How much room could some test tubes and electrical equipment really need? They only needed one cart to bring it all down here after all.
"Also, if we have a few extra easels once everyone is here I wouldn't mind bending the rules a bit and letting a non-club member join in," Landry said as he sent a quick wink in Marsha's direction.

(Zan is a cute nerd tho, loved the forget they were wearing glasses bit, just poked themselves in the face lol)

((hehe, it is not the first time zan forgot they switched to contacts and it will not be the last i also adore landry's spontaneity, it suits an art club president so well))
-- ❃ -- "Cool, thanks," Marsha said. Zan contemplated tearing their hair out.
"For goodness' sake, I don't do things without purpose," Zan said, latching onto the Landry's last argument. "I don't reserve the big room if another room would do. We're dealing with electricity, Finch. Electricity and magic! The pair needs space." Frustration was building up inside them - yes, Landry had a point, it would be ridiculous to demand that the art club packed everything up now, and really it wouldn't be a big deal to move the experiment to another day (but who knows when Zan would get another evening off from work?), but it's the principle of the thing. In fact, they're going to say so.
"Look, it's the principle of the matter," they said. "If every club did things as willy-nilly as you did, there'd be no order. What if you ended up in here the next time we - or any other club, for that matter! - wanted the room? We'd waste time bickering about it. You'd waste my time, my club's time, and your club's time." Zan rubbed the back of their head furiously, already feeling a headache coming on. "Do you ever think things through? Or is everything on a whim for you?"
Another scream. Zan turned to see another student go down the hallway shrieking. "And that is such a stupid dare," they said. "You'd think it's blocked off just because someone didn't like the colors of the floor! You'd think someone at this point would figure that it's dangerous, but no! They need to prove that they've got tougher skin than they'll ever grow!"
They spun around back to Landry. "In fact, it's just the kind of stupid dare you'd take. But I bet that even you wouldn't last five seconds in there, Finch."
-- ❃ -- ((you gave landry such a good last name too i feel like zan didn't even grow up in a culture where using each others' last names is common, they're just dramatic like that))

Zan was starting to lose him when they brought up magic and electricity. He honestly didn’t care what they were up to and didn’t care much for Zan’s scientific theories about magic. Magic was magic. Who cares how it works?
Or is everything on a whim for you? Landry shrugged then gave a nod. “I mean yeah, kinda. I’m a ‘live in the moment’ type of guy.” He said to them. He didn’t see that as a bad thing though. He was always present and it made him good at improvisation and thinking on his feet. Best to not dwell on the past since you can’t change it, and it made the future a little more exciting and unpredictable. “And technically, the only person’s time being wasted here is yours.” He pointed out as he glanced over at the clock. “I still have… seven minutes until club starts.”
Then their conversation was interrupted by yet another scream. Another one? They either must have gone in together or one after the other. Still didn’t last very long though. It was a bit funny to see how riled up Zan got over it and a small smile formed on Landry’s face as he watched. Then the conversation was turned back towards himself.
Landry gasped dramatically as he placed a hand on his chest, playing it up a little bit. “I am offended that you think I scare so easily, Zan.” He didn’t deny that he would take the dare though. As much as it was used around the school it still was a good one. A nice test of courage that he knew he could pass. He strode forward and stood right in front of Zan, getting in their space. “I can’t say for certain how long I can last in that blasted hallway, but what I do know is that I can last longer than you. If your little tantrum just now is any indication of how you would fare in there.” He taunted with a smirk as he gave Zan a quick glance up and down their frame as if sizing them up.
---
(as an art major I know different types of art people and that is definitely one of them, got those professors that change the schedule every week so you don’t even know what your next assignment is lol) (and yes! I love Landry’s last name as well, I searched for a while to find one that fits and then I found Finch and it just clicked. And with Zan calling Landry by his last name all the time we could get one of those scenes where Zan calls him by his first name for once and it’s super emotional and such) (also sorry about the delay in reply, was busy with school stuff)

-- ❃ -- Zan scoffed out loud. "Please," they said, not backing down. Landry's taunt inspired a sense of competition within them - a sparking desire to wipe that smug smirk off his face. They took one more step forward, until the two were almost nose to nose. "Someone with no plan and no discipline would break down in an instant. Hence -" they gestured towards the door, "- stupid freshmen. I would most certainly last longer than you. I have logic on my side; fear, after all, is merely false expectations appearing real. A case of managing physical reaction through mental fortitude." Zan mimicked Landry's up-and-down glance, though far more dramatized. "What do you have?"
"Woo, a bet," Ebbie called lazily from the science cart. "President vs. president, let's gooo."
Zan was abruptly brought back to reality and drew back, attempting to push their glasses up again and hiding said attempt by scratching the bridge of their nose. "Of course, hypothetically speaking," they said, flushing. "Like I said before, the hallway's closed off." Still, now that they had briefly considered it, they did really think they'd do quite fine in that hallway. They didn't scare easily, after all, and the more braced they were for things like jumpscares the less likely they'll jump. "I mean, if I did win, and I would," Zan said, "the big room would be a fine prize."

"Ha!" Landry couldn't help but laugh once Zan was finished. "That's a lot of talk for someone who is too afraid to break the rules to even go inside." He said with a grin. All of that talk and taunting, just to turn it into a hypothetical. The hallway being closed off certainly didn't stop anyone else from going inside. They couldn't get in that much trouble anyway, a stern warning but nothing more than that because if the school punished them they would have to punish everyone else that has gone inside the hallway. And that was quite a lot of freshman.
"But since you are so confident, let's settle this." Landry started to speak as he turned away from Zan and started to walk back toward the stage in the middle of the room. "I have no plans on Friday night, so let's meet back here and see exactly who has the most courage to stay in the hallway the longest. The winner gets the big club room." He said as he stepped back up on the stage and took his seat on the stool again and crossed his legs. He honestly didn't care too much about the club room, he probably wouldn't need it again for quite some time, but since Zan cared so much for it might as well keep it in.
"Now if you don't mind," He said clapping his hands together. "I have club activities to start." He finished then turned his attention toward his club members, ignoring Zan now as he started up the activities for the afternoon.

Zan barely stopped themself from rolling their eyes. “There’s a difference between fearing the rules and respecting them,” they said haughtily. “I can break the rules whenever I want, just as you do, but the difference between you and me is that I have standards.”
With that petty retort out of the way, they stood with their hands on their hips, going over Landry’s plan in their head. They had to give it some heavy consideration - the rules were very important to them, after all. But also, the temptation of taking the big club room was just too good to pass up. Besides, they could always sweeten the deal. “Very well, Finch,” they said. “Let’s look into the fine print of that real quick, shall we? Winner gets priority on the big room for the rest of the school year - which means, if I win, you must go through the paperwork if you want it, and if the science club wants it, the art club must yield.”
Zan nodded to themself; it’s a big deal, after all, disrespecting the “closed to students” sign. If they could get a troublemaker like Landry to go through the proper procedure for once, on top of access to the big room (and get to stroke their ego on top of that), then, well, it might just be worth it.
“Enjoy your drawing, Finch,” Zan said. “See you Friday night.” As they turned around, they hurried pulled up their work schedule in their head. Did they even have Friday night off? Ah well, they could probably swap with their rainbow-headed coworker, who always had their back. Their pride didn’t let them try and finagle the scheduling of an improper dare. Honestly, the inconsideration, they scoffed in their head. Something about Landry kept drawing Zan in when they really should step back, hauling them in like a fish on a hook. Why do I keep letting that fool waste my time?!
Marsha was inching towards an easel, pointing and mouthing Can I? Zan, sighing heavily, waved their hand in approval. Though it hurt their pride, they didn’t have the heart to crush the look of excitement on their club member’s face. Ebbie and Zan waved good-bye as they stepped out of the club room. Zan’s gaze lingered on Landry sitting on his stool. All cool and collected, not a bother in the world. What is it like, to live in spontaneity?
Zan shook their head. Whatever. Time to research the heck out of that hallway and win this darn dare. -- ❃ -- ((woo! and that's our first chapter! ok to forward to hallway time?))

“Ughhhh,” Landry groaned as a ran a hand over his face. “This is taking too long, I will just go first.” He offered as he turned to open the doorway of the forbidden hallway and peered down it. They have been going back and forth on this for over ten minutes now, the topic being which one of them gets to go down the hallway first. Zan just kept rambling about why they should go first then changing to rambling to on why Landry should go first, and Landry just kept tuning it out. Honestly, the only benefit he could see was that if you went second you would know what time you would have to beat in order to stay in the longest and win their stupid little bet. By now, Landry didn’t even care who went first, he just didn’t want to wait any longer.
“Start a timer,” Landry said as he pointed to his raven-haired companion that he brought along with him, ignoring any sort of protests from Zan. He had brought his friend Dakota along, they were one of his oldest friends and his roommate at the school dorms. They tagged along as moral support, plus the two involved in the bet needed some sort of witness to see who really won. Also, hey, free entertainment for the rest of the night. Dakota hadn’t been paying much attention to their argument, instead choosing to look at their phone, but gave a thumbs up when Landry pointed to them.
Dakota tapped a few things on their phone then muttered. “You’re all good to go.” Which Landry responded to with a nod as he looked down the hallway.
He swallowed when he thought he saw something big and dark move far back in the long corridor. Ha gave a quick shake of his head to shake off any nerves. It wasn’t real, none of it was real, it was all just illusions made to scare him. He could do this, just had to keep reminding himself that none of it was real. He had to win this stupid bet and rub it in Zan’s face, and he better getting going before he loses his nerve.
“Alright, I’m going in.” Landry finally decided as he took a step forward.

-- ❃ -- “Do you have to film it?” Zan said, nose wrinkling at the prospect.
Their roommate looked up from his phone and grinned. “It’s an artistic piece. ‘Capturing Total and Utter Fear.’”
“Xander, I will murder you,” Zan said, “and bury your body so well that no one will find you.”
“Is there a handbook for that?” Xander said, swiveling the camera to Zan’s face. Zan inwardly groaned. Why did they make the mistake of bringing this fool? Zan already felt like banging their head against the wall from bickering with Landry about who should go first. Dakota, even though they were on the side of the enemy, was at the very least quiet and polite.
“Just get your timer going,” Zan said, rubbing his face. Xander was essentially a safety plan - two clocks work better, after all, for who knows if one of them was rigged.
Zan, of course, couldn’t help themselves, peering over Landry’s shoulder as he took a step inside. It was long, and dark, with a faint, flickering ceiling light because of course there was. The hallway was absurdly long - or maybe it only seemed that way, the end disappearing into darkness. Crooked doors lined its walls. There were paintings hung between said doors, with some side tables and flowers for, Zan could only presume, decoration purposes, though why one would want to decorate a hallway of terror they couldn’t imagine.
Zan shivered a little, their eye catching on something shifting in the darkness. Illusions. Nothing would actually hurt them - that would be ridiculous, it was a high school, no high school would put something within its halls that would actually harm a student. Right?
... But what if Landry actually did get hurt? What if Zan’s stupid ego sent a fellow student down a destructive path? Sure, Landry’s a thorn in their side, but the thought of being the reason Landry gets several broken bones or traumatized for life made Zan’s throat close up.
“Okay, wait, maybe I should go first,” Zan said, swallowing their nerves as they stepped in after Landry. “Show you the proper way it should be done and all! Or maybe before we actually start the clock there should be a path or something set first, like how are we choosing our doors? Are we going right side first, or are we zig-zagging? Like in science, there has to be consistency here, Finch, otherwise the results will be skewed, surely even you retained that knowledge from the third grade.”
As if the hallway could hear them, the first door to their right slowly but surely creaked open. -- ❃ -- ((if you want, since landry entered the hallway first, the first room could contain a small fear of his!))

Landry took in the appearance of the hallway as he stepped forward. He just had to go in, open a few doors and last long enough to beat Zan. Piece of cake. He was about to continue forward but stopped when Zan interrupted, insisting that they go first yet again.
Landry groaned and dragged a hand over his face before turning to look at Zan. He was fed up with them by now, he just wanted to get this show on the road. You think it would be an easy thing to do but apparently not for Zan. “It doesn’t matter, you just go in, open a few doors then leave when you feel like doing so.” He said with a glare aimed at Zan.
Already on edge from arguing with Zan, his head whipped back to the hallway when one of the doors creaked open. He watched carefully as a few spiders crawled out of the room as well as some other creepy-crawly bugs. A shudder went through him and a look of disgust crossed over his face. Of course, the first room had to be bugs that would probably crawl all over him and ew. He guessed if he could delay having to go in there by having Zan go first then they could be his guest.
“If you’re so intent on going first…” Landry started as he stepped back out of the hallway. He moved so that he was now standing behind Zan and then placed his hands on his classmates’ shoulders. “Then, go!” He said, punctuating his last word by shoving Zan forward and into the hallway. Giving Zan a push in the right direction was the only way he could see them getting this thing started.

((hey no prob! life happens and stuff like that should totally take priority! good to have you back! ^.^))
At the sight of a few insects spilling out from behind the door, Zan made a funny little sound at the back of their throat. Bugs were only of those things that both fascinated and absolutely repulsed them. It was really a fascinating subject, how horror both compels and repels - okay, now a spider was poking at their shoe and Zan really didn’t need an eight-legged creature crawling up their pants.
“Absolutely lovely creatures, insects are,” they said, attempting to cover up their initial reaction with a cool, pondering tone. They peered more closely at a large rhino beetle crawling up the wall. “Did you know that there are almost ten million species of insects? And absolutely unique designs, what other creature has three distinct sections of the body and at least three pairs of legs? Not to mention the number of eyes -“
Just as they were yammering away, chasing the small spot of fear in their chest by cool facts (after all the main source of fear is simply fear of the unknown, so logic must go that if something once feared becomes known then -), a pair of hands landed on their shoulders and shoved them forward. Zan stumbled forward with a yell, and a “You -!” before spinning around and shoving Landry right back into the hallway.
"You - you absolute fool! What's the big idea?" They marched in on Landry, glowering. "I'm just trying -" a poke in the shoulder - "to set up a fair race -" another poke in the shoulder - "and you just - just - ugh!" They gave Landry one more furious push right at the door, still crawling with dark bugs along the hinges. "What, is that door making you nervous, Finch?"
((and then the fools promptly tackle each other right into the room x3))
