I'm thinking of making an advanced rp and I want to check here first to make sure it would spark enough interest to get off the ground. I'd like to get at least three other people involved before making it, just so I don't waste time thinking about it. That being said, I've been sitting on this idea for a few days. So tell me what you think!
The problem with fantasy rps or those with heavy world-building is that joiners get tentative because they don't want to step on the toes of the creator. In this rp, I'm hoping we can make the setting and plot familiar enough that people will feel free to impose their own ideas into the story. For that reason, the plot will be set in a rather generic fantasy world. More specifically, most of the action will take place in an inn. I feel like an inn is good neutral territory because we all know what that would look like and characters of all backgrounds can intermingle. So, the inn would be the setting. Characters can float in and out as they follow their own storylines, but it will be an important base camp. The plot will revolve around who arrives at the inn and why.
As for the characters, my favorite is when complicated relationships form. Small group rps are the best in that regard, because then we can map out those connections a bit before the rping even starts. So I'm thinking I will come up with a few character archetypes and groupings before-hand to make that process easier. These single characters or groups will be specifically tied to elements of the story. But joiners will be free to be creative with the characters they make in terms of backstory, attributes, and abilities.
The plot: Now the most fun part will be figuring out ways to connect all of these threads of story. Certain characters can be suspicious of each other or choose to work together in order to find whatever it is they want. We can come up with twists and turns as we go. Everything will be fair game. We could even message each other privately to keep an element of mystery. For example, if one character is hunting down a killer, maybe one of the other characters is that killer, and we can leave a trail of bread crumbs for the hunter to follow. Or maybe one character was involved in an event that another group is curious about. I'm interested in messaging joiners as they trickle in with how their characters might connect to others in surprising ways. That way certain joiners will have information that others don't? So on the front page it would say something like "Character A has information about buried treasure." I would message the person that rps Character A about where the treasure is, then any character who is interested in the buried treasure would interact with Character A in hopes of finding it.
Anyway, that's the vibe I'm on lately. Pls let me know if you're interested lol
Characters slots so far (WIP):
- The bounty hunter: (1, m) He is on the trail of a murderer. A bloody crime was committed close by, and the bounty hunter was hired by a mysterious party to hunt down the perpetrator. (𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊 )
- The king’s men: (2, m/f) This band of two are in search of what is rumored to be riches. They are directly commissioned by the king, and their gravity puts everyone in the inn on edge. (Brownie + 𝓑𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐫 ♥)
- The sorcerer’s daughters: (2, f) Two young women with unique abilities passed on by their father, who has recently gone missing. They are in search of their father and the web of mysteries he left in his wake. (ℊℓоω + Starchaser )
- The vampire: (1, m) He was drawn to the scene out of curiosity. He will act as an agent of chaos as they toy with the main characters like a cat would with his prey. (ℊℓоω )
- The innkeeper and his daughter: (2 m/f) These two are at the center of the village, and they see everyone who goes in and out of town. They want to stay out of trouble, but they seem to have an interest of who comes through their business. (_____ + Brownie )
-The woodswoman’s son: (1, m) His mother, who was a hunter and an outcast from the town, disappeared three months ago. He is suspicious of several in town. (sweetclover1 )
-The sheriff: (1, m) He, more than any other character, cares about justice. He wishes to find who was responsible for the murder/disappearances and why. (𝓑𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐫 ♥)
-The victim’s daughter: (1, f) She is the daughter of the man who was killed. She knows everyone in town and she wishes to know why he died.
- The shapeshifter, fellow agent of chaos and totally besties with the vampire, impersonating a figure of importance in order to get ahold of the fabled treasure (willowflower )
- The sorcerer's apprentice (or familiar), who is trying to uncover the disappearance of their master, both because they kinda miss him but also they kinda need his signature to prove they've completed their apprenticeship (willowflower )
(Beyond this, people can worldbuild as much as they want for their characters. Species and powers of all kinds are allowed, given this is a fantasy roleplay. Also there can be side characters, but they probably won't get POV unless necessary.)
