THE UNKINDNESS
Welcome, you've got perfect timing!
This is a two-clan RP but it has some small differences as opposed to the usual clans we may see. Please take the time to read through the page (most important is the 'Traditions' section, but the 'History' supplies context. If you have any questions after reading through please ask me! I want to know if I've missed something that I should have on the front page.
So my idea for this two-clan RP is that people can have characters in either clan, or characters in both, and they can interact with each other. Having another clan does inspire plot points such as: fights, forbidden romances, or sometimes needing to work together with others they are usually enemies with. I hope it can offer a range of plot points and I encourage people to speak up if there's something they want to do!
It's important to note also that this clan is open to EVERYONE! There is no writing requirement to enter this clan, I just ask that you do your best to keeps things as descriptive and interesting as possible for others. If someone writes three meaningful paragraphs it is kind to give them a detailed reply back, or make an effort. That said, it takes time to build up RPing skills which is why everyone is welcome! I hope we can work together and build our skills!

Many moons ago, long before you or I walked the forest, there were two brothers. They were named Raven and Magpie and they were identical in appearance: sleek black toms with white tail tips. The only difference was that Raven had amber eyes and Magpie had green eyes.
The two brothers relied on each other for everything, living together as best friends: they hunted and roamed this very forest. Yet, like all things, this came to an end.
Willow was a she-cat who was raised by twolegs; it is said she lived in the twoleg village nearby. One day she found herself acquaintance to the brothers, and this is where the story begins.
It was no secret the brothers were both in love with Willow. They did all they could to impress her and earn her heart in return, so much so, that they began to resent each other. Soon enough, their bond was broken, and they became enemies. Raven came to run this side of the forest and as cats joined him, they became a clan known as The Unkindness. On the opposite side of the forest, Magpie was doing the same; only his clan became The Mischief. In the middle, poor Willow found herself amidst this war with naught she could do to help.
Even until now, the two clans exist. Even after Willow died of illness, and even after Raven and Magpie died in battle; the two clans remain. However, after so many years, the battle is over. The two clans can live in harmony, without continuous attacks and constant wars. So long as they stay on their side of the border.
Over time, many new traditions have been created. Such as the belief in their ancestors, known as Skywalkers, and ceremonies for young cats to grow into fit hunters or fighters. More details on these traditions can be found below.

The Battle ZoneThe Battle Zone is a space that is about 4 fox-lengths of space between Raven and Magpie territory. In the middle of the Battle Zone is a huge willow tree which is where all the cats meet for the gathering. Before being known as the Battle Zone, it was actually called 'Willows Land', as it was said Willow lived there between the wars of the brothers. However, after her death, it became the place of battle as it is in the middle of the two clans.
The Battle Zone is a lawless place. Any cat can enter for any reason, but if they are spotted by the opposing clan, they can be attacked without consequence.
The Gathering
During the day on the full moon, the two clans will gather in the Battle Zone. They use this opportunity to, in a way, show off their skills. The fighters will compete in battles (claws sheathed, although it has gotten out of hand before), hunters will compete to show off their skills, and apprentices undergo a range of challenges such as hunting, fighting, climbing, and swimming. Medicine cats will take the time to discuss their ideas and herbs. This tradition started many, many moons ago as the war between Raven and Magpie had ended yet the two clans continued to compete to show their strength and worth on the battlefield.
Positions In Camp β’ The Leader, as it states, is the leader of the clan. It is their job to make sure the clan is all in order, they make the decisions when attacking or defending the territory. Their word is law.
β’ Next of Kin is either the child or sibling of the leader who is the next in line to become leader. The replace the deputy in a normal clan.
β’ The Medicine Cat are limited to three. It is their job to collect herbs and heal sick or injured cats.
β’ The Hunters hunt for the group. Sometimes, they will join the Fighters when there is a battle.
β’ The Fighters fight for the group against enemies such as foxes, badgers, and most of all: the opposing clan. They are responsible for patrolling and ensuring the safety of the clan.
β’ The Apprentices are young cats being taught to either become a Fighter, Hunter or Medicine Cat.
β’ Queens are she-cats who either have kits or are pregnant. They can either be Hunters or Fighters when not with kits.
β’ Kits before the age of six moons they rest in the queens den but when they are six moons they sleep in the apprentice's den until their seventh moon when the decision of their future role is made.
β’ The Elders are retired cats who now live their lives in peace.
The Next Of Kin You may have noticed this clan has no deputy, instead, they have what is known as 'next of kin', who is a relative of the current leader and is supposed to take the leader position once the current leader passes. This is a very old tradition of the clans. However sometimes a leader with die before their kin are old enough to leader or they do not have kin at all. When this happens, this is the protocol:
β’ Kin is to young to lead - a senior hunter or fighter will step into the leadership position, this chosen cat is decided by the elders. The chosen cat is the new leader, but the next of kin still belongs to the original kin of the fallen leader.
β’ Has no kin - a senior hunter or fighter will step into the leadership position, this chosen cat is decided by the elders. They will remain in the position permanently, and their kin will be the next leader.
Becoming An Apprentice When a kit is prepared to become an apprentice they must first do a test. On the day they receive their apprentice name, they begin a month of learning and training to see what their skills are best suited for. So, when a kit turns six moons old they will begin one moon of training in both the skills of a Hunter and Fighter. On the last day their skills will be assessed in a test, as written below, and they will become a Fighter or Hunter based on their skills. They do not formally receive their mentor until they are seven moons. When they are six moons, they are watched by the senior hunters and fighters.
- To become a Hunter the new apprentice must hunt. They will be kept under the strict eye of a senior Hunter and if the Hunters decide that the kit is good enough than the apprentice will be a Hunter.
- To become a Fighter an apprentice must battle three of the best Fighters, claws sheathed. If the Fighters believe that they are skillful than they will be a Fighter.
- To become a Medicine Cat an apprentice must show deep interest. They must still spend the one moon training but they will also be taught herbs by the Medicine Cat. If the Medicine Cat thinks they are good enough they will take them an a Medicine cat apprentice.
- An apprentice of equal skills in both hunting and fighting will be able to choose if they want to be a Hunter or Fighter.
Our Ancestors The ancestors of the cats before are known as 'Those who walk the sky' or 'Skywalkers' for short. Skywalkers are the equivalent of StarClan.

TERRITORY The territory is shown above, but below is a short detailed description of the notable parts of the territory. Raven Territory is set in a lush, green forest. The forest is filled with unsuspecting prey such as birds, rabbits, mice, squirrels and more. The ground is covered in broken twigs, dead leaves and other bits and pieces from the forest. The territory isn't known as 'The Unkindness Territory' but instead it is known as 'Raven Territory' because Raven was the cat who declared the land his. This goes for The Mischief as well, their territory is called 'Magpie Territory'. β’ The Border, on every tree along Ravens Border (the border between The Mischief and The Unkindness) are claw marks scratched into the trunk of every tree, warning off enemies.
β’ The River that runs through the territory is slender, curvy and calm that begins in Ravens territory and runs out through Magpie territory.
β’ The Rocks, close to the camp are large boulders that catch the sun. Queens, Kits, Elders, and anyone else usually rest here to get sun because the camp doesn't catch much sun due to it being surrounded by trees. But beware - avoid falling into the water, and also, snakes have been seen on the rocks during the hot seasons.
β’ Rocky Cliff marks the edge of the territory, it is much too steep to climb, but prey can be found amidst the rocks at the base.
β’ The Farms sits beside the rocky cliff and is walled off with a wooden fenceline. This is out of bounds for clan cats.
β’ Tall Trees towards the Battlezone stand tall, ancient trees that have thick roots that intertwine in the earth. They are tall and it serves a good place to collect moss.
β’ The Blackpath marks another border for the clan. It runs from the Twoleg Territory and continues into Magpie territory.
β’ The Battlezone is space, about four fox lengths, that separates the two territories. Originally, it was called Willow's Land, but after some time it was renamed. In the center of The Battlezone is a large willow tree, the same tree that Willow was buried beside. One of the only things that Raven and Magpie could agree on when deciding the territories was that the Willow belonged to their lost love and neither could claim it. Although, since it is neither the Magpie or Raven territory if a cat is seen there and killed there it was the own cats fault and not the cat who murdered them.
Camp Near the end of the territory, close to the stream, The Unkindness has made a camp. It is surrounded with brambles and hidden in the cover of trees, not much sun reaches the camp, that is why cats usually rest at the Rocks. The camp is not empty as there are trees inside, Learners and sometimes kittens often like to try and climb them
β’ The Leader sleeps in the hollow of an old, fallen tree at the head of camp.
β’ The Medicine Cat lives in the roots of an oak tree that stick out of the ground which are wavy and curvy as they dive in and out of the ground. A hole between the roots leads down where all the herbs are stored.
β’ Queens and Kits sleep in a den made out of trampled, hollowed out bush with a woven, fern roof, right beside an oak tree. The nests are made out of feathers and moss for extra warmth and brambles are placed around the den to protect it from enemies.
β’ Hunters and Fighters sleep in two groups. One half of them sleep together in a den (much like that of the nursery) near the Leaders Den and the rest sleep near the entrance, in another den surrounded by brambles.
β’ The Apprentices sleep in a hollow den beside the oak tree that is next to the nursery den.
β’ Elders live in a hollowed out tree close to the entrance

If you would like to suggest a plot I encourage you to do so! Currently I do not have a set plot but I think it would be fun to have one soon. I have put some sub-plots down for anyone to claim for their characters, please let me know if you want to do one of these and I'll put your character in the plot:
β’ Muse A and Muse B have always been close, but one day Muse A chases a rabbit into the Battle Zone. They are attacked by a Mischief cat. Luckily, Muse C saves Muse A. Muse A is thankful to Muse C and starts spending more time with them. Muse B starts to feel jealous. (Love triangle plot).
β’ During a gathering, Muse A is hunting in the Battle Zone without realizing how far they've gone. Muse B, from the Mischief clan, warns Muse A off instead of attacking them. Muse A is shocked and thankful. The two begin to meet in secret. (Forbidden romance).
β’ Muse A is a young cat who is doing their first moon of apprenticeship; the most important part of their life. In an attempt to show off their peers they decide to climb the rocks by the steep cliff. They climb very high but begin to get swooped by a hawk. They fall to the ground. Muse A is seriously injured, and their ability to continue training is questioned. (Apprentice injury creating a life change).
β’ Muse A has always felt like an outcast but they have a friend in the Mischief clan, Muse B, who they met through the gatherings. Do they decide to stay loyal with the Unkindness? Or do they leave their clan and go to the other side? (Tested loyalty).
β’ Muse A is a kittypet from the nearby twoleg village. They stumble across Muse B - a clancat - and are initially intimidated. But their way of life is intriguing to Muse A, who considers joining the clan. (Kittypet joining the clan).
β’ Muse A is a new fighter but they feel nervous every time they partake in a gathering brawl or a Battle Zone patrol. Their friend, Muse B, is a hunter. Muse A asks Muse B on some hunting advice. However, they feel shameful to think that after all their training they would abandon the role that was decided best for them. (Change in career).
β’ Muse A is an elder who used to be one of the greatest fighters in the clan. They are taking their retirement poorly and are found one day practicing on the rocks by Muse B, their fellow elder denmate. Muse B tries to get Muse A to settle into their new lifestyle. Muse A makes it an effort to get Muse B to lighten up. They make an odd pair, but will a bond grow? (Young... well... perhaps its just love?)

Jackdawstar ;; Camp ;; Open to replies ;; @ ;;
The morning was evidence of what was to come: cool and frosty. As Jackdawstar pushed through the lichen that covered the entrance to his den, his black paws pressed into the frozen dirt and grass sprigs. As he blinked the sleep from his eyes, he glanced around the clan.
Kestrelclaw was padding into camp from the directions of the rocks - as usual, the great grey tom appeared dark and gloomy. Jackdawstar always felt uneasy under the toms gaze, so he turned his head and spotted Daisybreeze grooming her old bones by the entrance to the elders den.
Whiskerflick and Rabbitspring were sharing tongues over a pigeon and Sedgepaw was just starting to poke her head out of the apprentice den. All seemed well and calm, and Jackdawstar allowed himself to calm.
Jackdawstar moved forward and peered at the freshkill pile. As the weather was easing into leaf-bare, the few piece of prey left were beginning to look scrawny. Furrowing his brow, Jackdawstar mused to himself, we'll have to make sure we are increasing out hunting patrols. We'll enter leafbare with full stomachs before the prey hides in their burrows.He stepped back without taking prey for himself. As a former hunter, he would go hunting and catch his own prey - save what had already been caught for cats such as Daisybreeze.
Minnowsplash ;; Camp ;; Thrushclaw ;; Vinedew ;;
The she-cat was curled into her nest peacefully, snoring softly into the fluff of her tail. The sound of the clan slowly becoming lively was what woke her. However, even as she blinked open her pale green eyes, she wished she could fall back asleep. She unfurled her tail and flicked her whiskers. She wished, silently, that she could seep into the fibers of her moss next and not need to wake again. A conversation with her brother, Kestrelclaw, the night before left her uneasy. Her ambitious brother was cold and scheming.
As she pushed herself out of her nest she decided she would like to leave camp and go on a patrol. The crisp morning air would aid taking her mind off the thoughts the swirled around.
She fixed her eyes on the first cat that came into view.
"Thrushclaw, do you want to go on a patrol with me?" She asked, her voice was soft, but her eyes were hard and serious as ever.
Whiskerflick ;; Camp ;; Open to replies ;; @ ;;
Whiskerflick purred softly as Rabbitspring's rough tongue scraped over his ear. The brothers had eaten their fill from a pigeon that was cold after being left overnight, but it was good enough for them. Whiskerflick bounced his tail tip over the ground contentedly and let out a soft sigh. The sounds of the camp waking around him was a for the pair to prepare for the day. As cats woke they would meander to the fresh kill pile, it was the role of hunters to ensure there was enough prey to fill their stomachs.
Whiskerflick rose to his paws and stretched deep - his tail high in the air, his front paws clawing at the dirt - and he finished by giving his short pelt a shake. "Time to hunt, I'll go see if any of the newbie apprentices are wanting to join me."
Rabbitspring nodded as Whiskerflick bounded across to the apprentice den. Any of the younger apprentices who had not been given their role yet needed all the hunting practice they could get. Whiskerflick nosed his way into the den and blinked into the darkness, "Who in here wants to go hunting!" His voice was filled with warmth. Whiskerflick was notoriously a kind, welcoming tom and was frequently favored for his hunting ability.

(im assuming we post our rpβs here....)
Doestorm shook out her fur, and shivered why does leafbare have to be so cold?? Doestorm padded out and greeted her clanmates with a wave of her silky tail, and drew a paw over her ear disloging a pice of moss from behind her ear, and got back on her paws. Who should i hunt with today? Doestorm thought as she scanned the clearing for anyone who might want to go hunt with her.

Thrushclaw Thrushclaw shivered as he let the cool breeze of leaf-fall blow through his fur. His mouth opened in a yawn as he tried to shake the sleep from his eyes. The rising morning sun glared though the trees and warmed his fur. Thrushclaw sighed contentedly as he began cleaning his fur. Dragging his tongue across his paws he heard Minnowsplash's gentle voice call out. "A little early, but I'll join you," Thrushclaw replied, pulling himself up and stretching his tired body out. He gave himself one final shake and padded over to the she-cat. "We can head out and follow the river then circle back to camp. We should be able to make it back before sunhigh." Thrushclaw turned and headed towards the camp's exit, nodding his head to his fellow clanmates as he passed. Stepping out of the dense circle of trees, his nose was filled with scents of the forest. He fluffed out his dark brown fur against the chilly wind and began heading towards the river on the edge of their territory. "It's been pretty quiet here recently," he chatted with Minnowsplash who padded alongside him. "I doubt we'll be seeing any cats this early anyway, but it feels good to be outside of camp. I hope a hunting patrol will have the fresh kill pile full before we get back."
[aether ]
Beepetal Beepetal awoke with a start from her slumber. She felt a sharp pain in her head and looked around the dim hunter's den to find the culprit. Lichenheart, she glared at the peacefully sleeping tom - who had stretched his legs out into her nest and apparently knocked her awake in the process. Sighing, she realized there wasn't a point in going back to sleep and stepped outside of the den. Leaves scattered the floor of the camp and blew across her path as she strolled through the opening. She felt her stomach rumble and headed towards the fresh kill pile. Ugh, how is it already so empty? Beepetal grumbled and turned towards her clanmates. She noticed Doestorm looking in her direction and padded over to the brown she-cat. "Hey, you looking to go on a hunting patrol?" Beepetal meowed warmly. She pointed her tail in the direction of the fresh kill pile, "We're getting a little skimpy over there. I think we can find something good and bring it back before everyone wakes up hungry and grumpy."
[@reedstar ]
DawnpawDawnpaw lifted her head from her paws and blinked sleepily. She stared at Whiskerflick with sleepy eyes for a few heartbeats before his words registered to her. "Oh!" the gray she-cat bolted up straight in her nest, moss clinging to her pelt. "I want to go!" She clumsily stepped over the other apprentices in her haste to follow the brown tabby tom. Bursting out of the small den, she took a deep breath of the fresh air, tingling from ear to tail tip. "Where are we gonna go hunting today?" Dawnpaw looked excitedly at the older tom in front of her. She was determined to prove herself early on in her apprenticeship so she wouldn't have to worry about her placement as a warrior.
[aether ] CedarpawCedarpaw tucked his nose further into his nest as he heard a voice calling out for available hunters. "I want to go!" he heard a high-pitched voice squeak out and he grumbled as he covered his face with his bushy tail. As he lay there pretending to sleep, he felt a jab in his side as Dawnpelt passed him on her way out. Ugh, that hurts, the tom thought to himself as he bit his tongue so he didn't draw attention to himself. Once he was sure the two hunters were out of earshot, he stood tall and stretched his paws out in front of himself. He spent a few moments smoothing his long, cream fur out and shaking off small pieces of moss. When he finished, he stepped out in camp and blinked his blue eyes slowly. He drug his feet over to the far side of camp and laid out on the cool ground, watching his clanmates wake up and meander around in the low morning light. Feeling no desire to join either of the hunting patrols or the border patrol leaving, he thought about how to spend his day. It'll soon be time to choose my path, he thought groggily. Honestly, he didn't like the monotony of walking back and forth across the borders day in and day out, and yet, he also didn't feel a rush of satisfaction after hunting. Dawnpaw says hunting is exciting and she could spend all day out in the forest gathering fresh kill for the clan, but I just don't get it. Cedarpaw furrowed his brows as he pondered what his future held. Maybe my future lies elsewhere. He turned his dark eyes towards the medicine cat den. The scent of herbs mingling and drifting over the leaf-fall air sent a tingle down his spine. Lifting to his paws he padded towards the tangle of roots where Flurrywing dwelled. "Flurrywing. Are you awake yet?" he whispered into the dark den.

Nettlewisker:
He'd start to wake up let out a little yawn. A chill went up to his spine. "It's going to a cold day today..." he muttered to himself. The brown tom got up and stretched and moved outside the den, waiting to see if he would be on a hunting patrol today. His ears went down, and his tail wrapped around himself as the morning wind made him quite cold.
Sheepheart:
The large tom was sitting in camp quite energized. His eyes glanced over the camp, excited to patrol the borders. He noticed the miserable Nettlewisker and couldn't help but chuckle to himself.

Beepetal Following Doestorm through the camp entrance, Beepetal opened her mouth to taste the air for prey. Nothing this close to camp, she thought to herself. She took a moment to scan the leaf strewn forest floor around her and watch for any scuffling amongst the undergrowth. The two she-cats continued further away from camp at a slow but steady pace, hopeful to find something to bring back to their clanmates. "I'm not seeing much around here," Beepetal turned towards Doestorm. "I think we should head over to the rocks and see if any prey is hiding in the cracks at the bottom. They can get pretty warm when the sun is out, so maybe some prey will be hiding under there trying to stay out of the cold." She nodded at the brown and white spotted she-cat and turned towards the rocky outcrop sitting not too far from camp. Carefully padding in that direction, she kept her ears pricked, still on the lookout for any juicy mice or plump voles to scurry across her path. Beepetal's mouth watered at the thought of biting into a nice piece of meat. "I sure hope we find something soon. I'm starving!" she said to Doestorm.

Doestorm mewed in agreement, her belly felt hollow as she padded slowly torwards the rocky area. Then doestorm stoped and raised her muzzle to the air, tasting the air for any scents. Then she scented a mouse near a rock on the far side. Doestorm waved her tail torwards the mouse, signaling that she had found prey. Then, as he crept forward she saw the mouse look up, but before it could run away to the safety of the rocks, she launched herself at it, and hooked her claws onto its spine, crushed it. Vinedew

Flurrywing bent low and stared into a tiny crevice between a root and the earth, her tail tip twitched in annoyance as she tried to slip her paw into the crevice. Her claws stretched in an attempt to grab at a small pile of leaves that sat just out of reach. The wind must have blown the lungwort further into the shelf... if I can get it out, I'll have to find it a new home... she was deep in thought with her paw stretched into the crevice when a soft voice sounded outside of the tangle of roots she called her den. She reclaimed her paw and straightened up, ducking out of the den to find Cedarpaw. Her ears perked and she used her tail to wave him forward, "Good timing, young Cedarpaw. I need your assistance." She ducked back into her den, ducked and weaved, and came back to the crevice. "Your paws are small, I've got some Lungwort stuck in this crevice and my paws are too big to reach, can you see if you can reach?" She pointed with her nose to the crevice and shifted back to give him some space.
Minnowsplash ;; Patrol ;; Thrushclaw ;; Vinedew ;;
Minnowsplash was glad for Thrushclaw's unassuming reply - he was someone reliable that at times when her mind was busy, was good to spend time with and have his focused attitude rubbed off on her. She allowed herself a deep, calming breath, before setting off after him. It seemed he was taking the lead role in the patrol so she instead focused her instincts of being aware of their surroundings. As of late, there hadn't been much scent of danger on their territory but it wasn't unusual for a fox or badger to wander into their territory. It was always important to ensure that none of the Mischief cats edged too close to the border either.
Thrushclaw must have read her mind as he began to chatter, she glanced at him at her side and gave a small nod. "I agree, but sometimes foxes like to test the borders when we sleep. However I've not scented any recently..." A small grumble in her stomach mimicked Thrushclaw's sentiment about food. "We need more apprentice for hunting now... although we should do some fighting training with them later. Soon the decision for whether they will be hunters of fighters will be made." Her tone, as usual, was rather serious although she was merely making small-talk. Currently they only had three apprentices and with no queens in the nursery it was concerning. Her gaze softened when she added, "I remember being that age - it was the most exciting time I can remember."
Whiskerflick ;; Camp ;; Apprentice Den ;; Vinedew ;;
Whiskerflick was impressed to see how keen Dawnpaw was to go hunting. He glanced to Cedarpaw in the den and contained a small mrrw of amusement when he noticed the young toms eyes tightening closed as though he was pretending to sleep. I'll leave him be, Whiskerflick thought in amusement. Instead, he waited patiently as Dawnpaw clambered out of the den. "Let's go to the Tall Trees. We can get some climbing practice in while we are there," he meowed. "See if you can keep up!" Being a cold morning, he figured it would be wise to warm up. So, with that, he raced out of the camp taking long-legged strides. He glanced over his shoulder to see if Dawnpaw was keeping up, when he thought he was going to fast, he slowed. When she started to catch him, he sped up. It was refreshing to race through the forest, and it certainly warmed his muscles to do so. He ducked and weaved around branches, leapt over fallen sticks and logs, until finally, he came to a halt. They were still a distance from the Tall Trees, and Whiskerflick meowed, "We'll walk from here. If we continue to crash through the undergrowth, we'll scare off all the prey." With that, he moved again, this time in a brisk walk.

(Oh awesome!) Mosswhisker to Jackdawstar aetherThe chill in the air was certainly... concerning. Mosswhisker wasn't that good of a hunter, there was a reason why she was a fighter instead, but even she knew how scary the food portions got in the winter time. Her stomach cramped of the thought of the last season they had gone through without much food, Lichenheart had nearly starved and he was a hunter. But maybe this time around, it would be different, even though she saw their leader staring at the fresh kill pile with what she could only describe as a pensive expression. The young fighter yawned, padding over with admittedly heavy feet and grabbing a small mouse from it, noticing that the prey was starting to look scrawny again. ' It's just the beginning, too,' she thought worriedly before flashing their leader with a look. " Aren't you gonna get something? Need food to keep on leadin'" She commented, trying to ignore the worry that was already building in her stomach, tail lashing for a moment as she licked her claws absently. She flicked her ear towards Jackdawstar, diving into the mouse eagerly, even if it was gone far too soon for her liking. If they were lucky, a patrol would bring back plenty of food next time around. --- Lichenheart to: Anyone
The young hunter was still fast asleep, not even waking up when he accidentally kicked on of his denmates, the tabby simply flopping back over onto his nest once they left. He didn't wake up until a short while later, yawning heavily and blinking as he slowly woke up. Typically, he was someone who enjoyed getting up early in the morning, spend some time with his littermate before heading off and hunting for the clan.
But he'd been up later than he was used to the night before and he was admittedly hard to wake up, so here he was, late as he slunk out of the den. The tabby shook out his fur once the weak rays of the sun hit his pelt, yawning and stretching out his back and claws, blinking slowly like an owl as he looked around. He was hoping to go on a patrol, maybe with the apprentices, because he'd found it fun to teach them how to hunt.
If they were lucky, one of the younger apprentices would end up being trained by the hunters and they'd have more paws to help during leaf-bare.

Jackdawstar's ears rotated to the sound of oncoming pawsteps and when he glanced to her he saw his own concerned reflected in her green eyes. Her words almost took him off guard and he tilted his head as he looked back to the prey pile, well, it was hardly a pile. "I don't think I can eat yet... Daisybreeze needs prey more than I do." His voice was soft and his tone gentle, it was very much within his character to be selfless. He was a leader; he'd do anything necessary to keep others happy. "You'd best eat that, too. You need to keep your strength up to keep up those patrols," he looked back to her and smiled warm-heartedly.
As she began to eat, Jackdawstar turned to look at his clan again. He was glad to see Whiskerflick leaving with Dawnpaw on a hunt and he hoped they'd bring back a decent catch. For a moment, he was quiet, but then he quickly looked at Mosswhisker and spoke. "I heard from Rabbitspring there's traces of fox scents alone the border. He said as far as he could tell it went into Mischief territory, but I want to warn everyone." He twitched his tail and narrowed his deep yellow eyes, "I'm thinking I might lead a patrol to the area just to make sure."

Mosswhisker to Jackdawstar aether
Well, Mosswhisker didn't need to be told twice to eat, finishing off the mouse quickly before she sat up to groom off her pelt. She gave Jackdawstar a whithering look for a moment once she realized that their leader wasn't going to take any more food. He needed to eat, too, but it wasn't like she could force the leader of their clan to actually eat it. So she just made an unhappy noise, attention quickly derailed at the news of a fox, her ears perking up immediately at the thought of having something to do. Checking out a fox scent was something she could certainly do, nodding in agreement, fur poofing up for a moment at the thought of some kind of excitement.
"I'll keep an eye out, too. Need anyone else on the patrol?" She asked, jumping at the opportunity to get out of the camp, flexing her claws at the thought, personally enjoying the patrols where they were looking for something. Even if the fox had run into Mischief territory, poking around all the trees and old dens was fun, so she would jump on the opportunity immediately.

Beepetal"Nice catch!" Beepetal's eyes lit up as she watched her fellow hunter catch a beautifully plump mouse. Okay, now it's my turn, she thought to herself as she stilled her body and tasted the air for any lingering scents. On the tip of her tongue, Beepetal could taste the earthy scent of a vole scurrying close by. Her brown eyes widened in excitement, and she she lowered herself into a hunting crouch, she felt her heart racing with excitement. Slowly creeping forward and being sure to keep her tail still - Beepetal moved delicately across the forest floor. She spotted the vole shuffling back and forth - probably in search of something to eat - and held her breath as she snuck up behind it. Once she was almost a tail length away, she quickly leapt into the air and landed on top of the unsuspecting prey. Hooking her claws into its flesh, she delivered a final killing blow and picked up the fresh piece of meat in her jaws and carried it over to her hunting partner. "Do you want to continue hunting?" Beepetal asked Doestorm as she set her catch on the forest floor. "Or do you wanna head back to camp and see what the other hunting patrols have brought in?"
[@reedstar ] Cedarpaw "Of course Flurrywing!" Cedarpaw eagerly stepped into the medicine cat's den, picking his way through the tangled roots at the entrance. He stopped just short of the tiny crevice and crouched down to look further into it. He could just barely make out the pile of dark green leaves that had been blown to the back. He got closer to the opening and reached his tiny cream paw in as far as he could. The tom could feel the tip of his paws just barely touching the leaves and struggled to stretch just a tiny bit further. SO close... just a little more, he thought to himself as he flexed his claws out and finally grasped the bundle of leaves. Straightening up he pushed the leaves towards the white she-cat standing over him. "Here you are Flurrywing," he nodded at her. "What is lungwort used for anyway?" The young tom's eyes lit up with curiosity as the pungent scent of the lungwort filled his nose.
[aether ]
Thrushclaw "Yes we really need more cats out here to help, especially with leaf-bare approaching," Thrushclaw hopped over a fallen branch in their path and continued on - eyes searching for anything out of the ordinary. "Oh yes, the moons I spent as an apprentice really were so exciting. Being able to leave camp for the first time, exploring the territory, marking my first border, and of course I can't forget how horribly I failed at all my hunting tasks." His amber eyes lit up with amusement and nostalgia as the memories flooded back to him. Glancing to the side, he could see his patrol partner was also caught up in her own memories of youth. "That feeling of wonder at all the new sights and smells really is something you'll never forget," his voiced trailed off a bit at the end as his ears pricked hearing the sound of trickling water. He had gotten so lost in his own thoughts and the conversation, he hadn't even realized how close to the river border they had gotten. The trees began to thin out and the soft, mossy forest floor began to give way to the muddy, rocky shoreline of the river. The fine mist coming off the river only served to make this morning feel even colder than it already was. Suppressing a shiver, the tabby tom kept walking closer to the river bank. Here the rush of the water always seemed to drown out any other sounds and scents for him, making it difficult to actually tell if something was wrong. He padded along the river for a few heartbeats before turning to the more experienced white and gray she-cat next to him. "I'm not able to pick up any scents out here. How about you?"
[aether ]
Dawnpaw Feeling the crisp morning air flow through her gray pelt, invigorated Dawnpaw and kept her chasing after Whiskerflick even though she was not nearly as fast as the older warrior. She noticed him slowing down every so often to let her catch up, but just as soon as she thought she had got him, he'd take off again into the leaf strewn forest. By the time he came to a stop, Dawnpaw's muscles were already aching - not yet built up over moons of hunting and training. Dawnpaw met Whiskerflick's green eyes and nodded, trying to keep as quiet as possible. Can't mess up today. It's almost the end of my apprenticeship I need to prove myself, she thought as she padded a tail length behind the tom. She found herself gazing at the giant trees looming overhead. Some of the trees were so tall, the young she-cat couldn't even make out where the tops were. I'm supposed to be able to climb these? she wondered to herself. How it was possible for any cat to get up in those branches, she couldn't understand. Well, I guess I'll be finding out soon enough. Dawnpaw shivered as a gust of wind blew through the forest, bring along with it scents of prey in the distance. Her ears pricked and her tail shot straight up in excitement as she could taste the mingling scent of warm-blooded prey on her tongue. I can tell there's prey out there somewhere! Even though it's leaf-fall it smells like there's prey everywhere. It must be out foraging to prepare for the cold season coming up. Oh, I'm gonna catch something so big Jackdawstar will have no choice but to promote me immed- Dawnpaw's rambling thoughts were cut short as she ran straight into the back of Whiskerflick. While she was busy daydreaming about catching prey, she hadn't even noticed the hunter in front of her come to a stop. "Oh! Whiskerflick I'm so sorry." she backed away from the tom and dipped her head in apology. "I just got distracted. It won't happen again!" Her pelt flush with embarrassment, Dawnpaw cursed at herself for not being able to keep her thoughts straight.

Although Jackdawstar didn't vocalize his thoughts, he couldn't help appreciating the obvious unhappiness Mosswhisker felt as he didn't take prey for himself. Although he was a leader and relied upon heavily, he didn't have anyone specific to take care of him (other than Flurrywing when she fussed). His siblings had both died when he was young; Shrikepaw lost to a falling tree in a storm, and Drizzleleaf lost to greencough shortly after receiving her warrior name. His parents were no longer alive, either, and so Jackdawstar often felt secluded within his own clan. However he didn't let this affect his abilities - it was only times like these, when someone obviously cared for him, that he felt a pang of appreciation. Now and again it was important to be reminded you are not just special because you are a leader, but because you are simply a cat too.
He nodded in reply as Mosswhisker jumped excitedly to her paws and he purred softly in amusement. "Yes, if you are not too busy I would like some company on the patrol. I don't want to get caught off-guard." Jackdawstar had been a hunter before a leader, so whilst he was decent at fighting in his own right, it was not his strength.
"I won't take a big patrol as it's only cautionary. I think it'd be best if most others were able to do their own patrolling and hunting. Let's go, I'll see if I can catch something on the way." He flicked his bushy tail in a gesture for Mosswhisker to follow as he padded towards the camp entrance. Out in the forest the chill hung in the air and the leaves crinkled under paw. Soon the earth would be white with snow and instead of crinkling leaves it would be crunching snow.
Flurrywing ;; Medicine Cat Den ;; Cedarpaw ;; Vinedew ;;
Flurrywing watched intently as Cedarpaw reached into the crevice, her head was a mere whisker away from his as her pale green eyes watched closely. As his paw emerged with the dark leaves, she purred with delight. "Splendid!" She meowed and she scooped up the small bundle gently into her teeth, and she turned to place the precious herbs onto a small shelf - which was just a root that was half buried in the earth. Her ears perked at Cedarpaw's question and with her body still turned she narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. She had noticed more and more Cedarpaw's interest in what she was doing, he was always the one to offer her help and she seemingly always found him hanging around the den. She turned to face him with a smile and blinked kindly, "Lungwort is used for yellowcough. Since it's getting colder I'm making sure my stocks are full." She tilted her head thoughtfully, "It's notable because it has grey speckles on the leaves and its found on the hills near the twolegplace." She padded past Cedarpaw and crawled out of the den.
"If you aren't needed for patrols, I could use some extra paws to help me collect some marigold." Her tone was nonchalant.
Minnowsplash ;; Patrol ;; Thrushclaw ;; Vinedew ;;
Minnowsplash nodded and smiled quietly to herself as she listened to Thrushclaw. He described all that she felt so well, from wonder a young apprentice feels to the experience of practicing different tasks. Minnowsplash herself had been an average hunter and her skills definitely shone in her agile fighting techniques. As they neared the river, it's rushing became constant in her ears, "I am glad, however, that I don't have to worry about training everyday." She added with a quiet hint of amusement.
She perked her ears and strained them somewhat to hear over the sounds of the water. Nearby she could hear a bird singing, but nothing that was of concern. She glanced to Thrushclaw if he asked if she could smell anything and she opened her jaw to take in the scents. There's that bird I can hear... water, moss, grass... Nothing was alerting her. "I don't notice anything, thankfully." She replied, "We'll keep going to the border though and make sure we haven't had any Mischief cats trespassing." Just at the name Minnowsplash's claws subconsciously sunk into the earth with each step.
The walk by the river was calming and soon Minnowsplash was no longer concerned with her brother and his ambitions. However as the patrol continued a strange sight came into view. It seemed to be some sort of vine that was tied to the trunk of a tree, it's end disappeared into the river so it was hard to know what it was but it stank of twoleg. Minnowsplash hastened her steps to investigate. "What is this?" Her expression was quizzical, twolegs often did mousebrained things. (Side note for context, it's a rope tied to a tree with a fish net in the water for people to catch fish - I am thinking there will be some twoleg interference at some point).
Whiskerflick ;; Tall Trees ;; Dawnpaw ;; Vinedew ;;
The look of wonder in Dawnpaw's eyes made Whiskerflick reminiscent of his own apprenticeship when he had stared at the tall trees. He stifled an amusement purr and continued forward, moving with experienced and delicately placed steps. He came to a stop a few tail lengths from a tall oak tree and took a moment to sniff the air - just as he thought, there were mingled prey scents in the air. Not all the prey is hiding away just yet; they still need to store for leafbare too! He straightened up and turned to face Dawnpaw just as she stumbled into him.
He laughed aloud and waved his tail light-heartedly, "Not to worry, Dawnpaw. I can tell you are keen to get started." He gave her a broad, characteristic grin.
"Before we get started, what can you smell here? Where do you think the scents are coming from?" He quizzed. His own ears were pivoting atop his head as he took in his surroundings. He heard some birds nearby, their wings beating as they fluffed and cleaned themselves. His mouth began to salivate just at the thought of eating one.
