The river! It had been some time since Sorrelwing had hunted near the river - she had a vivid memory of the last time she'd hunted by the river she'd lost her footing and almost ended up going for a swim. Alas, she'd managed to regain her footing and never mentioned it to anyone out of embarrassment. This experience made her nervous, but she swallowed down that feeling and nodded to Thistlehawk. "The river sounds good to me." She couldn't doubt that his words were correct, the rivers babbling sounds did tend to cover up the sounds of footsteps.
She took a moment to shake the nervousness from her pelt and stepped towards the camp entrance, her tail stood high and keen, her ears were perched forward atop her head, and her whiskers twitched. "Let's have a competition, we'll see who can catch the most water voles!" She glanced back at Thistlehawk with a challenge in her pale yellow gaze.

C L O V E R T A I L with Alpinelily
Every time Clovertail opened his eyes, his mind was already hard at work thinking through what needed to be done for the Clan that day. Down to organizing patrols, hunting parties and any other duties that needed taken care of such as gathering fresh moss for the elder's den or patching up ay holes in any dens. But that was just the mind of a good deputy, he liked to think. He could take care of that kind of thing so Lynxstar could worry about leadership. Speaking of which, he could hear their leader sounding as though he was getting complained at by Brindlefrost. With a twitch of his nose, the white and tabby tom pushed himself to his paws and slowly padded outside the Warrior's den. But then he stopped, instead spotting another warrior standing there. With a tail raised in greeting, Clovertail padded over to where Alpinelily was standing, "Do you think I should go and save out dear leader from Brindlefrost's wrath?"

It was awfully hard for Wildstrike to sleep these days, but not that she ever complained about it. Instead, the large she-cat simply preferred to avoid the problem by offering to go on Dawn Patrols as she was most likely going to be awake anyhow. But even when she got back sleep was not easy, especially when Lynxstar was so intent to walk so loudly she was sure no one else in camp was actually still asleep anymore. With a loud huff, the hulking she-cat turned into her nest, blinking her dark amber eyes at the ceiling of the den before she pushed herself to her paws, arching her back into a small stretch before padding from the warmth of the den and into the sharp cold of the outside world. Sure enough, there was Lynxstar getting himself told off for his noise, and there were a few other cats littered around. Not that Wildstrike was looking for conversation that morning. Instead she turned her head towards the fresh-kill pile and started to make her way toward it - that was until she stopped before a stationary tom of black fur standing in the way. Sure, she could just go around, but the she-cat was not the type to o about things without complaining about it.
"Hey, mousebrain, do you mind not just standing around in everyone's way?" She snapped from where she was stood behind the other warrior, "Some of us have places they want to be this morning."

It was not hard to tell that mischief was on the young apprentice's mind that morning, you could tell simply by looking at him. He had woken up early and had found himself unable to get back to sleep. And knowing full well it would be some time before anything interesting happened that morning, he decided he wanted to get in some extra hunting practice. Maybe he could make his das proud of him and show he was a great hunter already. Maybe he could get himself made a warrior a little earlier than usual because he was just so great and helpful.
He was currently lurking around the darker corners of camp, trying to hide in the shadows despite the fact he was mostly made up of white fur and was quite noticeable. But Frecklepaw wasn't thinking about that, instead he was trying to be quiet, stealthy, as he slowly slunk his way towards the entrance of camp with every intention of slipping out without anyone even noticing he was gone in the first place.

Lynxstar.
"They are ArdentClan cats," the tom comments with the slightest hint of amusement - playful exaggeration to his husky tone of voice. "They should be able to run on no sleep at all for the sake of their Clan, if they were true warriors to us." He teased, of course, and would at the very least attempt to take Brindlefrost's words into account. Of couse he wouldn't admit as much to the spitfire of a shecat, where, after all, would the fun be in that? "Where going to need a lot more birds than that to keep the Clan warm," Lynxstar comments. Even with his thick coat he was beginning to feel the ill affects of an oncoming leafbare, the mountain side was already bitterly cold, and it was going to get much worse before it got any better. He merrowed a little at her latter comment, "I forget how much of a mother you are sometimes," it wasn't necessarily an insult, the Clan wouldn't be here without at least a few mothers. "I'll eat when I'm hungry, there are more than enough empty bellies to fill as is." Alpinelily.
Rigidity visibly shot through the tortoiseshell when the deputy approached her. Muscles tensed - on the brink of fight or flight, as worries bolted through her mind at a hundred miles a minute trying to figure out if she'd recently done something wrong that might have warranted him coming over. She could think of nothing, but such was her insecurities that for a brief moment she could barely breathe. Something akin to relaxation flooded her when he explained what he wanted; she had been watching with some amusement the correspondence between the leader and Brindlefrost. Somewhere between horrified and impressed with the confident tone her clanmate took with the leader. Flicking a nervous ear at the tom, "It looks like he can handle his own," she reasons quietly, panicked it might be a test to spot her loyalties to the massive tom. "But Brindlefrost can have quite the bite, it might be a good idea."

แดสสแดสแดแดส just a question! does Frecklepaw have a mentor at this point in time? just curious! ]
Tanglefoot & Alpinelily | Camp | Sunrise
The sunlight flickered lazily onto the soft grass, a warm breeze rustling the branches. Quiet birdsong seemed to come from a distance away, and Tanglefoot sighed in happiness. The forest was a lot bigger than he remembered, but maybe his mind was playing tricks on him. He squeaked out in surprise and joy as he felt a sudden weight on his back, and a small voice cry out behind him.
โTake that, you stinky rogue!โ He grunted in effort of keeping his sister from flattening him.
โCome off, Muddykit! Surprise attacks are no fair!โ His small voice didnโt surprise him, too focused on getting revenge on his spotted sister. She may have been smaller than him, but her claws dug into his fur with a death grip. He tried to rear back, attempting to make her flop onto the ground.
โNow, now, play nice!โ Their mother scolded from a bush, a mere tail-length away. His green eyes blinked, trying to focus on her face as the weight on his back disappeared. She said something he couldnโt make out, and he tried to take a step towards her. His legs seemed to become a part of the earth, refusing to move an inch. He tried to speak, but his mouth wouldnโt open.
A weak mewl escaped his mouth as his eyes suddenly opened, revealing the walls of the warriors den. His eyes blinked, bleary and unfocused from sleep. His dream was already slipping away, and soon it would be amongst all the rest heโd had in the past. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a cream-and-grey mottled tail disappearing into the outside. Ears flicking for any other sounds, he noticed Alpinelilyโs den was empty. Perhaps sheโs gone on patrolโฆ It could be beneficial to get up and join her, but at the same timeโฆ He gazed longingly at his nest. Sleep called him back once more, and it was so difficult to wake up completely. A breath was forcefully pushed from his lungs as he clambered to a sitting position. Licking a paw and drawing it over his face, he forced himself to have coherent thoughts. It felt early, the crisp breeze blowing through the den walls had yet to be warmed by the sun. Leafbare had hardly begun and yet it was making itself known. Tanglefoot let out a thoughtful hum. Hunting could be difficult with weather like thisโฆ where would the prey be? Perhaps the lazy ones were still looking for any sources of food, so thickly wooded areas werenโt a bad idea. Or maybe by the river, where some could be getting a drink. Fish or frogs could still be making their home in the waters. He chuckled a bit, imagining himself trying to fish. He got to his paws, strutting out of the warriors den. Perking his ears, he looked out for Alpinelily or other cats who would be awake at this hour. A ghost of a chill reached his skin and he shivered, even with thick fur, the temperature was obvious.
โAlpinelily? Do you need any company for patrol?โ He called out politely, hoping he wasnโt interrupting another group she was already a part of. Alpinelily was kind, he thought. Although she was quiet, their few interactions made him believe she was a nice cat. So he didnโt believe she would react negatively if he was, in fact, interrupting.
Muddypool & Lynxstar & Brindlefrost | Sunrise | Camp
Dried stalks of horsetail and some straight sticks rattled across the floor of the den. The mossy nests were empty, a miracle in such cold moons of early leafbare. The dappled she-cat let out an annoyed sigh, using her paws to round up the fallen items. The frosts coming so early wasnโt a good sign, especially with her herb stocks not being very plentiful. She could feel a bit of crust around her eyes, a result of waking up before dawn. Not being able to fall back asleep, she had gotten up and re-counted the plants at her disposal. Several of them had rotted to no use, and had to be discarded. A shame, we could have really used those berriesโฆ and that borage. Sending a silent prayer to StarClan, she hoped none of her clanmates would be sick enough to need all the herbs she no longer had this season. Tapping her tail across the floor, a thinking habit sheโd had since she was a kit, she went over what she had once more.
Bindweed and sticks for broken bones.. three dried burdock rootsโฆ plenty of thymeโฆ some marigoldโฆ five horsetail stalks... and only a few bits of others. These pitiful piles would barely be enough for a kit let alone the entire Clan during leafbare. Letting out a sigh, she knew it would be best to journey out and collect any that had survived the recent harsh moons. Any she could find, anyway. Grooming herself for a few minutes, she grabbed a few dock leaves and a couple bindweed vines. Going to need something to help carry any herbs I find.. Flicking her ears in search of any voices outside, she exited her den. She spotted a few cats outside in the cold air, speaking to each other. Her tail raised with greeting as she spotted Lynxstar among them and approached. She figured it would be best to tell at least one cat where she was off to this early. Placing her materials on the ground for a second, she dipped her head respectfully at Brindlefrost before turning to the tom.
โGood morning, Lynxstar. I just wanted to let you know Iโm going out searching for any surviving herbs, if you need me.โ Gesturing with a tail flick at her den, she continued, โThe stores are a bit low, so itโs best for me to collect any remaining herbs I can find.โ

Well, you can come with us, then. Weโre headinโ out huntinโ by the river.โ Frecklepaw was a good โpaw, but he could be a real pawful sometimes. Thistlehawk decided to let his attempt to sneak out go this time, since they were heading out anyways, but he made a mental note to not let it go next time. He knew he was a bit too easy on the apprentices, and he was starting to wonder if it was a bad influence on Frecklepaw. StarClan knows that apprentice got ideas into his head way too easily.

Jackdawstrike took a moment to stretch his legs, his ears swiveled to hear what his grouchy mother was saying to the clan leader. It was an amusing fact that he was son of such a loud, bold, and feisty she-cat considering the fact he was often so quiet, thoughtful, and calculated. The sound of footsteps to his side caught his attention and he turned his head to glimpse the mottled brown fur of Wildstrike - who was another notorious spirited she-cat. His ears twitched as she opened her mouth and immediately jabbed him with a sarcastic comment. He turned his body to face her, his dark yellow eyes were clouded with thought.
"S-sorry Wildstrike," he tilted his head bashfully, "I didn't realise I was in your way." His voice was soft and held no animosity.
He knew that many of his clanmates found Wildstrike's grouchy and blunt personality annoying and difficult to deal with, but Jackdawstrike had no quarrels with her. They were not close in anyway but from the times Jackdawstrike had been in her company he found she was a complex she-cat, which intrigued him.
"Where are you headed this morning?" He asked curiously. He stepped to the side, getting out of Wildstrike's way.

The last of Brindlefrost's tension seeped out of her shoulders and she visibly let her body relax. Lynxstar's gentle teasing had calmed the grouchy she-cat and she rolled her eyes at his comment about her being a mother and she turned her head to appreciate the fresh kill pile. Now she was awake, she felt her stomach rumble. She opened her mouth to continue the conversation, but was interrupted by Muddypool who approached.
Brindlefrost gave a greeting with just a flick of her whiskers and she grabbed a small mouse from the pile while the medicine cat conversed with the leader. Muddypool's concerns were reflected with everyone in the clan. Despite being early in the season it was still bitterly cold. The dawn patrol had to fight through the frost, and soon the snow would fall. Despite the need for apprentices, it was good there were no kits in the nursery - Brindlefrost could only imagine this leafbare would be unkind.

Lynxstar.
The approaching pitter patter of paws against the half frosted ground underfoot made the Tom turn his attention away from his companions, finding the dark brown form of ArdentClanโs renowned medicine cat coming over at a steady, unherried pace. That told him at least there was nothing he needed to worry about, no new illness in the clan, nor a cat who had returned to camp with injuries. No, this was less urgent. He was in high demand this morning it would appear, though that was nothing new to the massive leader. Lynxstar had quickly become accustomed to the fact that every day came with new wants and wishes from his clanmates, not that he would complain, it was part of his job after all. And he would always help wherever he was able to. He reckoned he would be a thoroughly poor leader if he didnโt at the very least try wherever he could. โGood morning,โ he responds with a respectful dip of his enormous head, the silver tabby practically towered over the medicine cat, something that was common for the majority of his clanmates. โThat sounds like a good idea,โ he knew almost nothing about herbs, only bits and bobs of information heโd been able to pick up here and there, but was all too aware leafbare starved their herb supplies almost as much as it did their prey sources. He could only hope that this year the snows and frosts would be kind to them. โDo you need anyone to accompany you?โ He asks, moving on quickly. Not wanting their medicine cat to be taken from them by a passing mountain lion, or maybe even a wolf. It had been a while, but the Tom was always a little on edge about the possibility, even if he preferred to pretend not to.

Sorrelwing paused in her track when she heard Thistlehawk's voice once more, only this time the conversation was directed to Frecklepaw. As Sorrelwing had only been named a warrior one moon ago, she was very familiar with Frecklepaw - they had been denmates for a while - so she had no complaints in Thistlehawk inviting the apprentice to join them.
"Yeah, Frecklepaw! We're going to the river, and whoever catches the most water voles wins," she grinned and flexed her claws playfully, "I'll show you how much I've grown since becoming a warrior!" Her tone was joking, but the flair in her eyes was real. She was a petite she-cat of average ability and the amount of training she did was tireless - she would love the opportunity to show her old denmate her skills.

Clovertail remained calm as he stood and watched the interaction between Brindlefrost and their leader. "Maybe I should," he meowed in response to Alpinelily, and he was just about to pad over with some excuse to get Brindlefrost off Lynxstar's tail, but instead he saw their Medicine Cat walking over, so decided it was best he didn't interrupt. Maybe Muddypool would be able to sort the situation out instead. Then he heard approaching pawsteps, turning his head as Tanglefoot came over, inquiring about bringing the she-cat on a patrol. "Not a bad idea, actually," he meowed, knowing that was something he still needed to sort out that morning. "If you two wouldn't mind setting up a patrol for the morning that would be great. Get some other's as well, there should be some around with nothing better to be doing." Crossing off one patrol to worry about would ease his mind just a little

Wildflight twitched her whiskers at Jackdawstrike for just a moment, her cool amber eyes staring right through the tom. "Hmph, maybe you should actually make use of those ears of yours, you should have heard me coming." The large she-cat knew full well she was just picking holes for no reason, but he almost couldn't help it. It was not like she was going to play nice out of the blue, that was simply out of character for someone like her and she was pretty sure the rest of the Clan knew that full well. Though no one complained about it. Maybe they were just scared what she would do if they did come over with a complaint about her attitude.
But now the other warrior was out of the way, Wildflight stuck her head up as she trotted past, though paused again as jackdawstrike asked another question. "To get some breakfast," she meowed simply, flicking her tail towards the fresh-kill pile which had been her destination.

The young tom had been so sure that no one was going to spot him there lurking the shadows waiting for the perfect moment to make a run for it. And yet, he heard his mentor's voice, instantly straightening up and trying to act as innocent as possible. "I'm not doing anything!" he chirped in response, trying to give the most innocent expression he could muster. The last thing the young apprentice wanted was for anyone to tell his dad that he had been trying to sneak out of camp by himself. He doubted Clovertail would approve of that very much.
Knowing the jig was up, the white and spotted tom trotted from the shadows towards where his mentor and Sorrelwing were standing. "Is it just going to be us?" He wondered curiously once he had gotten closer.
