Auradon is perfect. A paradise of perfection and goodness. Evil cannot touch it, and we're protected by the benevolent King and his family. Truly a fairy tale ending.
Or so they claim.
20 years ago, Beast and his Queen, Belle, united all the Kingdoms under their own, an empire of brightness and life as they banished the villains to the dreary and cold Isle. A necessary precaution, and surely these criminals deserved the darkness. Preferred it, even. Truly the best for everyone.
But now a difficult question has been brought to light -- what about the children that have inevitably been raised there, in the cold and dark. Do they deserve it? Do they want to be there?
And as that question surfaced, so did many more:
Why is the King so against it?
What is he hiding?
Are the United States of Auradon truly the best and safest place in the world, all united under one flag? Robbed of most of their sovereignty and individuality?

Rhiannon Lucia Leontios daughter of King Richard and Lady of the Lake
For all the chaos that had befallen that night, the castle in Sherwood Forest was far too quiet. A solemn hush had fallen over the sleeping battlement, the tragedy not yet entirely discovered by it's residents. Silence reigned in the King's bedchambers -- or...former, bedchambers -- and Rhiannon could almost believe her father was asleep, if she didn't know better. Tonight could almost be peaceful.
If Rhiannon didn't know better.
The princess -- she didn't want to think of herself as the Queen, not beside the still cooling body of her deceased father -- paced the room, fighting down a growl in her throat. Now would be an awful time to lose her cool, what little cool she had anymore, and she was already contending with the fact that she couldn't breathe and the room was spinning.
The others were waiting outside. Advisors that she knew she could trust, that had her back, but she couldn't call them in. Not yet. Not yet. Her father, the man she'd looked up to for a large majority of her life, who loved her and she had loved him back, lay there dead just a matter of meters away, and it was all her fault. She needed a moment alone. But did she? The more she looked at the empty husk of the formerly great man, a literal lion of a king who fought tooth and nail for the best his kingdom could get for the entirety of his life.
Even if he was wrong.
As she paced, Rhiannon's tail lashed, and her ears pressed back up against her head, her pace growing more and more tense by the second.
She couldn't even sort through what she was feeling right now: anger, sadness, indignation, guilt.
She mostly blamed herself, but she'd be a liar if she said she didn't blame him as well.
"Y-you shouldn't have ever stood up to him!" The lioness princess whispered, angrily, brokenly, to the body in the bed. He'd insisted on defying King Bete, and supporting and sheltering the children from the Isle. He had been one of the sovereigns that stood up for the mission to the Isle of the Lost, and that was dangerous. They couldn't protect a pack of scoundrels and thieves, a pack of liars and thugs who could very well betray them at a moment's notice. They had their own people to protect! And defying the Mighty Beast King of Auradon, who more or less had an empire at his grasp? That was asking for him to destroy their pocket-sized home of Sherwood Forest! She had needed to grab a handle on the situation, step in before her father's good, kind, and just heart got them all killed.
She didn't even want to consider her own moral views on the Isle children and how she should feel about that.
"It wasn't our problem -- it wasn't meant to be our problem!" It wasn't even like they had any villains or criminals that didn't deserve exactly what they had gotten! A cowardly uncle and his greedy pig of a sheriff. A pack of traitors that would just as soon slit her father's throat as anyone.
....but it had been her.
"I'm sorry, I never wanted this to happen." Rhiannon mouthed silently, before scrubbing at her eyes with the back of her hands and straightening her back. There wasn't much use in stalling, anymore. Roan and Sabella were waiting.
"I need you two to walk with me," In an attempt to look brisk and not suspicious, the princess left her father's room, gesturing for her boyfriend and the mouse prophet -- could she be considered a friend, truly? -- to follow her. They needed to talk somewhere safer and more secluded, somewhere that wouldn't draw suspicion.
And she genuinely couldn't bear to talk about this next to him.
"He..." She swallowed hard, not capable of finishing the sentence. They'd know what happened.

Honoka "Hono" Vienna Hamada Daughter of Vanellope and Hiro Hamada
Hono had no idea why Liv had decided that a group lab day every two weeks would be beneficial to the group. Like, the woman was a genius and all, and Hono worshipped the ground she walked on and all, but to be completely honest...that part had the Hamada girl lost. Part of her debated bringing that subject up to the others, to see what they thought. Because they had to be just as confused, right? She wasn't missing out on some big, obvious benefit of putting a bunch of contenders in a room together with delicate information and even more delicate machine parts.
Not that Hono expected any of her opponents to destroy her work, no.
To be entirely honest, she was almost working in a room full of strangers. She couldn't simply make that assumption about an area filled with people that...most of them, she'd only properly met last week.
There was Winter, who was a familiar face, but not one that the Hamada girl was inherently suspicious of. While her older brother was a smarmy little weasel sometimes, Winter had never given Hono any reason to think she was anything but an angel in human form. She would never, and Hono felt like a monster for even making the assumption.
The other two...she was far less sure about.
Cannan was at least someone she'd physically seen before, which made her a little more familiar than Sang. Did that sound sad? Nah, the bar wasn't hard to get over when it was lying on the floor. Other than looking vaguely, somewhat familiar, though, she knew nothing about the Cogsworth girl.
And Sang was just as bad. She didn't know the kid at all. Only that he lived in San Fransokyo, and was vaguely connected to Mei in a way that...admittedly...Hono had never cared enough to ask about. Huh. Maybe she should have.
"So, any ideas on throwing us in the room together when we're working on entirely different projects?" The Hamada girl was absentmindedly doodling faces in a notebook, which looked pretty stupid, sure, to an outsider. But she had her reasons. She didn't need to draw up plans, she knew what she wanted to do. And she didn't feel entirely comfortable working on the nitty gritty parts of it around two total strangers. So if they asked, right now, she was just doodling and trying to think up a project. Maybe she could convince them that she was some kind of loser that accidentally got pulled into this?
Okay, so maybe she couldn't convince Winter. Winter knew her. But she was hoping that the other two didn't particularly have a whole folder full of information on her or anything...that would be unfortunate.
"I mean...what's the point behind it, you know?"

Cannan Cogsworth child of cogsworth and chandeleria Cannan had no intentions of answering. It was a pointless question given the amount of answers that could come from it if the girl had simply put a little thought into it. It wasted less space to have them work in the same room, it gave them opportunity to work in a 'comfortable' environment, it allowed for them to have simple, stupid conversation like what she was actually putting out.
Of course, given those points and how easily she came up with them- particularly the last point- Cannan gave a heavy sigh and looked up from the papers in front of her. "Multiple ideas. Let's go with 'we're in a room together in order to orchestrate some good spirit in this competition and get to know each other even though there's only going to be one winner.' Satisfied?"
Whilst Cannan knew that it was common for proctors of these competitions to support positive relationships between competitors, it was something Cannan didn't understand or care for. Cannan did fine without the support or encouragement of anyone else around her. Even if the friendships were support to inspire one another to do better, Cannan didn't need that to want to win anyhow.
She had been designing this crap since she first turned into a walking-talking clockwork chandelier.
Sure, she hadn't known the actual biological components that were needed at the time. She was focused on the entrancing idea of being like that- of being mechanics and not as human. She wasn't talking about being in whatever the item-equivalent to a beast form was. She was talking about being as functional and mobile as a human with the added functions that a machine could allow. It fascinated her.
The designs came first. Simple ones that expressed herself. It was when she was older she realized she needed to understand the knowledge to get it working. Body parts, nerves, all the fancy little details involved in the science behind prosthetics. After all, that's what they were. Prosthetics for the body to do better.
Cannan had plans to purely focused on the more obvious outer body parts for this competition (after all, she wasn't a monster. Obviously the inner body should be mechanically adjusted for maximum human potential as well.). The biggest issue she was having was deciding what outer body part would be the most impressive to show off for. It was what the sheets in front of her were for. Which required the most attention, which could she do in the time period given, which didn't seem like a sad-excuse of a limb to replace. It was why anything shoulders down was immediately crossed out of her to-do list, hands exempt.
Of course she'd have to actually make the thing, but she'd had plans for that for forever. She'd just been lacking the tools, which were now being given so graciously now with this competition. Even if she lost, Cannan could at least say she achieved her forever-goal.
The other issue was finding a subject to test it on and assure it's workability. She was saving that issue for later.
All in all, she largely stood by the point that no matter the intentions of those in charge in putting them in a room together, Cannan had no interest in getting truly distracted from her goals.

Sabella Murine daughter of little sister and sexton mouse, ward of friar tuck Sabella gave a short, sweet nod. Oh, she understood that weren't particularly nice adjectives to ascribe given the situation, but accurate it was. She wasn't feeling the same sorrow, grief, and anger that Rhiannon was.
The death of the king would cause grief for the citizens of Sherwood. For Rhiannon, the grief would be double seeing as the death of the king was also the death of her father. And she played a part in it. The feelings were natural.
But Sabella didn't share them.
It wasn't as though she wanted the king to die, that she was happy about it at all. No, the king's death was a solemn thing that Sabella had already mourned for. She had the time to process the idea of him leaving the mortal plane time ago. The old reign would come to an end and reborn would be something better. It hadn't meant that he would necessarily die, sickness was enough of a reason for something new to take over. It was merely unfortunate how things turned out.
So, she nodded and followed Rhiannon. She didn't say anything, not yet as it wasn't her moment to do. But she hoped Rhiannon would understand it.

WINTER TOVA WOWER daughter of wendy wower and trevor trengrove
Winter wanted to give Hono some happy words about bonding and how this would make them work better with others later in life. She wouldn't mean any offense, but she figured the others would be offended if she brought up the fact that they didn't seem to play well with others. Specifically Cannan, and Sang. Not that the older boy really mattered, seeing as he never bothered to show up on time, or at all.
Really, if this kept going, Winter expected him to get kicked out of the program. He was much more concerned with growing his BuzzTube channel than he was about the amazing opportunity in front of him. Winter thought it was a waste of space, seeing as someone who was more serious about the project could benefit a lot more than someone who just refused to show up.
That, however, was not the question presented to her. Both the other girls brought up good points, and Winter had to agree. "Yeah! Ms. Amara is such a nice woman, I'm not surprised she wants us to foster a good working relationship. It could also be a behavioral thing. Making sure she picks someone with the right work ethic and can keep work environment healthy."
Instead of focusing on the negative of working with a boy who didn't take his work seriously, a girl who seemed rather dismissive and a friend who didn't want to be in the same room with them, Winter went back to her designs. She tapped the pencil on her chin, wondering if her calculations were off for the regrowth of stem cells.
It wasn't like regrowth of human limbs were impossible. Babies could do it.
Winter just needed the right formula, and enough time. Liv Amara was giving her space to work and access to some of the best materials she could ever ask for. No way was she going to waste a second of that, or even pause to consider the logistics of Liv's reasons for them working together. They couldn't actually find out the true answer unless they just asked her the question and could confirm she wasn't lying. Contemplating on it didn't matter.

Roan Micaiah Hood son of maid marian and robin hood
Roan took in a deep breathe to settle himself. It left his body in shakes, but that was the only outwardly sign that Roan wasn't stable. Rhiannon was going to be Queen. He knew, eventually, she would inherit. He also knew she would be Queen all but in name while her father was sick. She was not however, supposed to become Queen with the title and the crown and the scepter and the vows.
That wasn't supposed to happen yet.
Not to mention, the King wasn't meant to actually die. They had done the calculations. He had double checked the calculations. He had sent his girlfriend, his partner, his princess, in with a plan. They hadn't rushed this. It was not something they did in one night. Everything was supposed to have been going smoothly. So then how in God's name did the King actually end up dead.
His stupid actions had made Rhiannon a murderer. She had committed patricide. He had committed regicide. They were going to be sent to the gallows. Or the guillotine, which would be even worse. Was Capital Punishment even legal in Auradon? Did it apply to Sherwood Forest law? Would it even matter because he had just sent his girlfriend to poison her father and now what they had done was even worse than the treason they had planned for?
Oh, God, he was going to have to confess. He was going to take all the blame and Rhiannon would have to sentence him to death and live with two murderers on her hands. Sabella would be the only one left in the world to comfort her and who could even know what Josiah would do with himself after all of this went down. He would leave a shame on his family name and leave Wren to clean up his mess. Poor kid.
When Rhiannon spoke again, Roan got pulled back and away from his thoughts. How had they ended up in this room? How much time had passed? Had the girls already decided on a plan of action? He needed to get pulled together. He would be strong, for Rhiannon. "What do you need us to do?" There was a lot to be done, after all. Especially now that he had eternally damned the love of his life.

Honoka "Hono" Vienna Hamada Daughter of Vanellope and Hiro Hamada
The first note about the Cogsworth girl? She was an ass.
Of course, there were a lot of other personality traits Hono could glean from that interaction without even trying. Arrogance -- clearly, Cannan assumed she'd be the single winner of this contest. A certain level of introversion, even if it was an extremely hostile introversion.
But Hono felt like "an ass" aptly summed up all the smaller details.
"I'm sure we'll size each other up soon," She replied blithely, outwardly letting the clock chandelier -- err...clockelier? Letting her barbed comments ease past her. Hono had no idea how smart Cannan Cogsworth really was, but she could only assume that the older girl was a genius. Negative opinions aside, she wouldn't underestimate her ability. "It's...interesting, talking to different people." Truth be told, Winter wasn't "different people", and Hono would rather have a millipede in cleats tap dancing on her back than meet strangers.
But if it ended up earning her the internship...
Instead of continuing to bug the clockilier, she turned her attention back to Winter, answering her assumptions in a way that continued the conversation. "That makes sense, though. Its a Sycorax job, its not a reach to guess they want to make sure we can work with coworkers. People have trouble with that, sometimes." Was that a slight jab at Cannan? Probably. But Hono gave no indication of such, visibly keeping her attention on her guaranteed friend.
She still hadn't done much more than doodle in her notebook.

Rhiannon Lucia Leontios daughter of King Richard and Lady of the Lake
Rhiannon was quiet for a long time, lost in her own maelstrom of thoughts, guilt, and grief. She'd killed her father. She'd killed her father. Damn killing the king, she'd killed one of the people who cared most about her in this world, left him a sick, empty husk in his own bed. He was dead, and it was her fault. That's what this was. Her fault. She was guilty. Guilty of it all. Treason, betrayal, turning her back on her father's love and everything he'd taught her about loyalty and kindness. A monster. A traitor..
These words kept swirling around in her head, and for a moment, she just blinked stupidly at Roan and Sabella. Plan? P l a n? What was he asking her? Slowly, the cogs in her head worked over the question, and finally processed in her mind. "We need to carry on, like...like normal," She started, swallowing hard as she tried to explain. "Da- The king died in the night, and we weren't aware of it." Hopefully, their very real grief would mask their very fake surprise. "...and we need to stick with that story, we didn't know this happened." She stressed quietly. It would be common sense, to Sabella and Roan, but they needed to make entirely sure this was clear between them. She almost didn't trust the little mouse prophet to admit she'd foreseen King Richard's death, so she needed to make that requirement paramount.
"They have...they have no reason to suspect we had anything to do with this." And they didn't. Richard was Rhiannon's father. They wouldn't suspect that she was a traitorous, patricidal monster. Roan had never spoken ill of the crown, and was dating her. He wouldn't raise a hand against their king, presumably. And Sabella? The little mouse girl was odd, sure, but surely not capable of murder. "He was sick for a long time, and succumbed to the illness." There was no plot. There was no poison. There were no traitors, in the eyes of the law.
They would take this to their graves.

Cannan Cogsworth child of cogsworth and chandeleria Cannan's eyes flicked upwards as the other girl in the room added onto her own thought. It was certainly the kinder version than what Cannan had spat out with extra details, something Cannan was hesitant to add compliments about. Cannan supposed there was that additional fact with a healthy environment for other workers around.
A healthy environment. Cannan would laugh if that didn't expend extra energy. She hadn't needed a healthy environment to get her where she was today. Determination and intelligence was what got things done, not a healthy environment.
As the original girl who spoke added in with a comment about making sure they could work with co-workers, Cannan rolled her eyes. "Perhaps, the next time they want to make sure their next recruit can work with other people, they won't pit people against one another and make them work along then."
After all, none of the people involved in this competition were receiving outside intellectual aide (Cannan assumed, at the least, unless these girls in front of her weren't as honest as Cannan would have assumed. Unlike Cannan, they did have immediate connections to some large brains if Cannan recalled correctly). They were working on their own against the others and committing all they could to it. It certainly didn't look to appear well-working with co-workers.
Co-workers were a thought in and of itself Cannan disliked. Reasonably, she knew coming in that succeeding in this meant she'd have to work with others. Of course, Cannan wasn't so much into becoming a Sycorax intern for the social aspect as much as she was into it for the resources they provided. If Cannan could do this sliver of a project done alone, then she did not need others to help her on much else.
The best they could do is recreate it for the larger public.

Sabella Murine daughter of little sister and sexton mouse, ward of friar tuck Sabella murmured her agreement to the princess. She'd stay as true to that plan as she could whilst staying true to integrity.
One might think and say that killing a king would go against the morals she had been raised to uphold as a daughter of the church, but one mustn't misunderstand: she was a daughter of God first and foremost and she'd carry out his will without a question. Killing a king without reason was treacherous, but when provided with a reason that was endorsed by God, it would be treacherous to go against that.
That didn't mean she was going to lie if blatantly asked head-on if she knew the king was going to die. She didn't, luckily, merely that sickness was going to befall him and Rhiannon would take his place. Hesitantly, she supposed she'd need to make the choice of keeping true to true honesty and admitting she had played part in the death if asked head-on (although who would think to ask that) or believe that God would forgive a lie on behalf of the chosen queen.
She closed her eyes at the thought and breathed in, blinking her eyes open, hoping to find a sign to the answer. Ever so disorientated at the world, she shifted her gaze until it all cleared. Her eyes settled on a decorative lion on the wall as her vision cleared. Oh, at that point she knew in her soul the answer. She was quiet comfortably settled now.
The murmur previously spoken to Rhiannon was now more certain than ever, and Sabella gave a comforting smile now. Repeating Rhiannon's words aloud, as to ensure the lioness could firmly put faith in Sabella's agreement, Sabella said, "The king died in his sleep after suffering from his illness for far too long. He lasted as long as he could and we admire him for that. But, he is passed now, even if we shall not discover that until morning's dawn."
Yes. They'd wake in the morning to the news the king was dead. They would hold their tongue in the early hours of day as Rhiannon would be awoken first, to be informed and allowed to grieve before deciding if the funeral would be held before or after her coronation. Sabella could see them being brought in for council, for advice on the matter.
Sabella was, after all, a representative of the church, and willing to prepare the rites for the dead. It was a shame for the late king that he wouldn't receive the recognize and preparation for funeral as soon as possible, but she understood the verdict of the situation. He must wait.
She gave them both a smile once more, tilting her head to the slightest as she asked, "Shall we part for the time being and wait until we receive the announcement before coming together once more?"

WINTER TOVA WOWER daughter of wendy wower and trevor trengrove
"That's not true." Winter said before she could stop herself. She flushed with embarrassment as she realized how harsh that had sounded. "I just mean, coworkers are always pitted against each other. Who gets to work on what project, who's idea gets picked, who gets promotions and increases in salary!" Winter twirled a piece of her hair around her finger, clearly nervous while standing up to Cannan.
The young girl didn't really want to continue the fight, though. She actually hadn't meant to say anything against Cannan's point, it just slipped out of her mouth like the thought had a mind of it's own. She couldn't control the words coming out of her mouth, even though she really wished she could just put them back. Cannan could start yelling at her, and that's something she wanted to avoid at all costs.
Unfortunately, Winter wasn't the best at topic changes.
We haven't even met the fourth intern, not really, she though as she looked towards the door. She couldn't help but wonder what was taking so long. Everything felt so unreal and unlike anything she had ever been apart of. Instead of panicking about her project, Winter needed to be getting the full experience of working here. She couldn't waste this opportunity. Winter hunched down a little bit, leaning towards the other girls as she asked, "Does anyone want to do trust exercises?"
Winter gave the other girls bright smiles as she straightened her back now that she had gotten her question out of the way. She wasn't as nervous now that it had gotten spit out. It was a good idea, right? No reason to be freaked out about their answers. Obviously it would help them become more of a group rather than a couple of individualists and overall bring harmony. At least, to the three of them. Maybe not so much all of them.

Roan Micaiah Hood son of maid marian and robin hood
"We didn't know this would happen," Roan corrected in a whisper of his own. It was not angry or pressing. His statement was honest. They hadn't meant to kill the king, and he wouldn't have Rhiannon feeling guilt over this. If anyone had made a mistake along the way, it was more than likely him. "We didn't know." Yet they had done it anyways, hadn't they? Messed with things they had no business sticking their noses into. Life and death was an act of God, no one else.
Then again, Sabella had seen this, hadn't she? The death of a King. Maybe this was God, and he was just trying to push along succession. Rhiannon was just as much God's choice as King Richard had been. Monarchs held Devine right's. Roan met his girlfriend's eyes, trying to show his support. "King Richard is dead, long live the king. You will be Queen, by the Grace of God." That's what people said, how sovereign's rose to power.
That's all this was: The Grace of God.
It meant that they were on the right path. Splitting up would look less suspicious, but he wasn't sure he should leave Rhiannon alone. Hell, he didn't exactly want to be alone either. Instead of responding to Sabella's question, his eyebrow rose in an unspoken question. Do you want to split up? He would do whatever she wanted, but he wouldn't like it very much if she wanted to be left alone. That's why he didn't speak, Roan couldn't show bias.

Tsubaki Hilaria Hamada daughter of honey lemon and tadashi hamada
"Shouldn't the boys have been here by now?" Freddie was bored, it didn't take a rocket scientist to tell that much, and Tsubaki definitely knew. She, Freddie, Ori, and Meow had been waiting for ages to hang out with the whole team today, or at least go on day patrol, and...two of their teammates were nowhere to be found.
"Maybe they overslept?" The Hamada girl suggested, fiddling with a kneaded eraser that she'd found in the pocket of her supersuit, earlier. She had no idea why it was there, but she wasn't about to complain, it was something she could play around with, and keep her hands busy. "They're not picking up their phones, either." She added helpfully, a little bit concerned on that end. It wasn't like the boys had been captured, right? Maybe Caliban -- he was kind of small and helpless, he reminded Tsubaki of a baby deer sometimes -- had been, but Jang wouldn't have been captured. Not like that, he was a lot less helpless, and would scream angrily at the thought that they thought he'd been captured. Nevertheless, her thoughts turned south for the moment, and she threw a worried glance at Ori.
Before she could ask her girlfriend if she thought maybe they should swing by the boys' houses, make sure there wasn't any kind of struggle, Freddie spoke up again:
"I feel like if we find one, we'll probably fiind the other, yeah?" The boys had been close ever since Cal had joined Big Hero 6, after Hibi had gone to the Isle of the Lost. Thoughts wandering again, Tsubaki thought about her cousin. She knew why Hibi had offered to go -- or at least, she thought she knew why -- and it was only partially because they had a family friend over there. She just...hoped her younger cousin didn't do anything reckless to get herself hurt. The fact that she was over there, super-suit-less or otherwise (even if her super suit wasn't her own) was concerning. Hibi was small, and maybe not quite as tough as she wanted to make herself look, and that Ralph guy aside, it was an island full of bad guys, ones that wouldn't be afraid to hurt the transfers if it crossed their minds.
"...do you guys think?" Freddie's voice floated back into her range of focus again, and Tsubaki startled, jumping back into reality.
"Huh?" Tsubaki's face turned red -- she hadn't been listening to literally anything Freddie had been saying, and it was kind of lame to ask her to repeat herself. But here they were.
If Freddie was annoyed with having to repeat herself again for Tsubaki, she didn't show it. Granted, she would be used to it by now. They'd all been friends since they were little girls, if she wasn't used to it by this point, she never would be. "I was saying, should we just go ahead and go on patrol without the boys, and ask them what's up later?" This time she made sure to pay attention, and the sentence suddenly made a lot more sense.
"Yeah, but can we make sure the patrol swings by their houses? I want to make sure they're okay." Freddie nodded along, looking to the rest of the team for their opinions.
- - - - - -"Hey Jang," Caliban took a thoughtful look at the area around he and his pal. "You ever get the feeling we forgot about something?" It had been a little gnawing itch at the back of his brain since they'd started hanging out, that they were meant to do something today. But he couldn't put a name to quite what it was.

Oregano No-Ginger daughter of wasabi Ori was a moment's away from falling asleep. She had her hand cupping her head, elbow propped up on a table and eyes that were shut. The only thing keeping her from nodding off completely was the expectation that the boys would arrive any moment and she'd need to be awake.
Not like it would matter much given she could have several finished sleep cycles given the amount of time they had been waiting. Even if that was an exaggeration.
She'd swear she was right on the cusp of going into it had it not been for Freddie's well-timed comment. Not enough to open her eyes up yet, that'd take something more concrete for the effort. But, it was a fair question, and what she imagined all of them were thinking. Cause they totally should have been here by now.
So, she hummed a general agreement every time someone spoke. They should be here by now. They could have overslept. They aren't picking up their phones. They might even just be together.
Ori cracked an eye open as Freddie suggested just going without them. Yawning ever so slightly as she adjusted in her seat, stretching back a bit, she gave her response, "Certainly ruins the point of all of us grouping together for the day, but not much a point to that if they won't show up either." So really, there was nothing to lose by just going.
"If they show up later and we're gone, that's on them," Ori stated- not much to anyone in particular as just stating facts.
She paused as Tsubaki suggested they swing by their houses on patrol and, well, "Yeah, that seems like a good idea. Not too big of an adjustment, we'll be fine with the little detours." Not like time hadn't already been wasted waiting for them after all.

MISAKI MEOW JUSTICE daughter of mochi and mini-max
"Ten bucks says they're on a boy date~!" Meow shouted from the rafters, jumping from beam to beam. What could she say? She was bored. What was a RoboCat to do other than entertain herself? Caliban and Jang were definitely on a friend-date, if not an actual date-date. She wouldn't put either past the two. "They're probably just ignoring you, Tsubi. Don't take it personally." Or Caliban lost his phone. Or Jang forgot to charge it. But the most probable answer was that they were ignoring Tsubi, of course. While Freddie explained her idea, Meow weighed the pros and cons. On one hand, it meant she actually got to leave the premises and do something useful. On the other, this was supposed to be a group event so they could learn to work as a team as one. With the switch, it was an important meeting. Hibiki's abandonment was a clear sign that as a group, the needed to bond better. Still, Meow was bored, and that won out over any logical determination. "If they show up here, Basemax can contact us, duh." Even if comms weren't working, Meow could link with Basemax. Perks of being a cyborg. "Or Jang can actually get into his supersuit and meet up with us wherever we are!" See? Logical reasons to leave the base. Meow's want to leave had absolutely nothing to do with her sudden need to scratch up the walls. Nothing. The young girl stepped off a rafter and did a lazy flip in the air before she landed on one knee in total superhero pose. She looked up and grinned, giddy about the idea of actually getting to leave. "I don't mind detours, it just means we get to practice more." She shrugged as she stood up, "And if the boys are gonna form their own duo partnership, it would be smart for us to learn how to work together as a group of four."- - - - - - -"Did you forget about a school project?" Jang asked, putting his smoothie-logged phone into his pocket in order to meet Caliban's eyes. The worry on his expression was clear. "Do we need to head over to the school?" He wasn't sure what else it could be. Jang definitely didn't know of anything they were supposed to be doing that day besides hanging out. Maybe they wanted to get Curry Sushi?

Rhiannon Lucia Leontios daughter of King Richard and Lady of the Lake
"Leave...leave us for now, Sabella. If we're all skulking about the hall, it'll look suspicious." She and Roan being out together wasn't a cause for concern. That was commonplace, and if they could at least keep it together until they were out of public sight, no one would think twice. She, Roan, and Sabella, however, were a sign of trouble. Not normally, but someone would think twice about the priestess talking to the princess-- Queen, now -- urgently in the halls the night before King Richard was discovered to be dead. Technically, she could send Roan on his way right now, but...
Rhiannon really didn't want to be alone right now. And she'd appreciate Roan's company more than Sabella's. While she didn't suspect ill-intent from the mouse clergy, she just...just didn't have the energy for her right now. Sabella would convince her that this was the right thing to do, and for once, Rhi wasn't sure she wanted to hear that. It wasn't the right thing to do, even though God ordained it. It was still patricide. It was still regicide. And attaching big words to it didn't make it more detached from her. Her father was dead. Her father was dead because she killed him. She did, herself. With poison, and illness. Over a hoarde of criminals.
He'd died, not expecting his little girl was actually his murderer. He'd tried to comfort her, and she hadn't deserved it.
Rhiannon took in a shaky breath and started walking again. Where was she walking? She didn't know. Somewhere she, and Roan if he followed, could be alone without being eavesdropped upon.

Honoka "Hono" Vienna Hamada Daughter of Vanellope and Hiro Hamada
"Winter's right, you know?" Hono pointed out, nodding along to Winter's point. Most business settings were people simultaneously collaborating with one another, while also competing with who had the best ideas and the most energy in their work. It wasn't a zero sum competition at all times, even if this was. One of them would be an intern, and the rest would just...have to try their luck somewhere else. But Liv saying that they had to work together sometimes as well wasn't exactly a bizarre request. They'd be doing this anyway, working for Sycorax or any other company. "Most well-adjusted employees know when it's time to work together, and when it isn't." She pointed out, shrugging mildly and giving her fellow interns a smile. So far, no good vibes from Cannan, that much she could agree with. Like, she understood the desire to work by herself, but that just...wasn't how this sort of thing worked. They weren't being tested for their intelligence and designs alone -- they'd already started that judgement by choosing them. They were also being tested on how they could mesh into the professional setting of Sycorax, and any sort of work culture they had there.
"But yeah, I'm down for trust exercises. What did you have in mind?" Hono would play nice if she was asked to play nice. It wasn't that hard, especially not with someone willing to meet her halfway, like Winter. Dealing with Cannan was a whole other monster, but one she could deal with.

Astra Helena Arendelle-Nattura
daughter of elsa and honeymaren
Astra had found her cousin's baby reindeer. Or, more accurately, Iver had found her. It hadn't been hard, since she had been riding through the trees near the prep school, but no one needed to know that, not really. Maybe she was worried about her cousins, okay? Just maybe. She loved the Enchanted Forest and Arendelle, but it felt quieter, now that she was there alone. Sure, Oliver was wandering around spouting whatever nonsense he wanted to teach that day, but it wasn't the same. Emilia always made things more fun, and Agnarr never failed to make a big scene out of something.
Unfortunately, Emilia wasn't answering her phone.
Which, of course, meant that Astra had to look around the school and find her baby cousin in order to make sure everything was okay! Honestly, Iver running around unattended was unlike him. Very expected of Emilia, but Iver knew how to stay by her side quite well. Looking down at the reindeer, Astra asked, "Did she purposely leave you outside, little one?" The young woman knelt down, brushing some dirt off the little guy's nose as she spoke to him. Astra still hadn't learned the way to actually understand reindeer, but she knew they had their own way of communicating.
Hearing, "Have you seen your cousin?" made Astra jump out of her skin. Ice shot out from beneath her feet from her shock and led to a yelp coming from the unsuspecting victim. Finally realizing that it was not the reindeer in front of her who had spoken, Astra ran over to the poor student and sheepishly held out a hand to help her up.
"Aisha! I'm so sorry!" When the smaller girl took her hand, Astra easily pulled her back up to her feet and willed the ice at her feet to dissipate. Iver, who had been using the ice as a skating rink, belted at her in annoyance. Astra shot the young reindeer a glare, hoping to shut him up, before turning her attention back to the princess in front of her.
Luckily, the Agrabahn princess just dusted herself off with a polite smile. "Don't fret, Astra, I'm alright." She took a breathe before continuing, "It seems like Prince Agnarr has forgotten he has a responsibility with Student Council. Have you seen him at all?" Aisha raised an eyebrow while folding her hands in front of her, hoping that Astra had the whereabouts of her cousin.
Astra shook her head, "But! I can call him." She whipped out her phone in a breeze and selected the sixth person in her speed dial. She could help Aisha and see if little Aggie had seen his sister. She really needed to get Iver back where he belonged.

Sabella Murine daughter of little sister and sexton mouse, ward of friar tuck By the Grace of God indeed.
There was not a doubt in the mouse's mind that this was supposed to happen. Rhiannon was always meant to be queen in this time- whether acting or true. Sabella was sure that if she returned to the site of prediction, the lower, wilted flower would be dead- and the other would be standing taller than ever above the rest.
Just because murder happened by the new queen's hand did not mean that God hadn't willed it so.
As Roan looked to Rhiannon, Sabella focused her full gaze on the queen. At the dismissal, Sabella nodded her head low with a small. "Good night, then."
And Sabella left, just like that. It was no longer her place to stay. She wouldn't start even the lightest of rituals to prepare the body or setting for a funeral- merely whispered a prayer under her breath so God would still greet the new soul meeting Them tonight.

Cannan Cogsworth child of cogsworth and chandeleria "Doesn't explain a penny about why either of you would think that this is the time to 'work together' and 'be friendly' then. If anything, this entire situation solidly points out how little we should be working together," Cannan pointed out.
The moment Liv Amara blank-point told them they had to work on something, Cannan would shut up and do her part of the matter and maybe then, she'd actually be friendlier.
But until then, Cannan had no reason to bother and bother she wouldn't.
She hoped her silence on the matter of "trust exercises" exampled her point of view on that solidly. That, in itself, was a waste of time and would merely distract from the work in the lab. Honestly it could easily be read as an attempt to sabotage on Winter's part- every second in such an important assignment and project counted.
Ugh, the fact Cannan had even wasted breath on the two younger girls was frustrating.

Roan Micaiah Hood son of maid marian and robin hood
The dismissal of the mouse prophet didn't come as a surprise to him, but he wasn't sure where that left him. Rhiannon had said leave us, so he figured he was allowed to trail after her when she left. The halls were quiet, he could hear every step they made against the floor. There was a part of him that knew he should comfort her instead of just following her, two step behind, but he wasn't sure how. How do you comfort the person you love most after you just killed their father?
Roan noticed a tower stairway upcoming, so his strides became longer and suddenly he was pushing Rhiannon into the alcove with a hand on her waist. Without looking to see if she followed—How can I meet her eyes again?—he went up the stairs. They would be alone up there, and if anyone saw them in the tower, it wouldn't be unusual. Her rooms had many places to hide, hidden pathways and entryways for silent servants. The tower would be open with only a single entrance point.
My fault. My fault. This is all my fault. Her father is dead because of my mistake—
His guilt was not what she needed. His guilt made her suspicious. His guilt would not mean the end of her rule, not before it even begun. Still, everything he seemed to say to her was wrong. He couldn't let the words out, not if they would hurt her to hear. How could he make her smile, when it was the worst day of her life?

WINTER TOVA WOWER daughter of wendy wower and trevor trengrove
With Hono's support, Winter was beaming. When she had found out her friend would be along her competitors, Winter knew everything would be okay. They weren't alone in this, even though they had been pitied against each other. Hono wouldn't be cruel. Besides which, Winter hated being wrong. The mere thought of everyone disagreeing with her made her feel physically ill.
Being right was important.
Not the most important thing, of course, that was other human beings. Their rights, their emotions, their very lives. But being right was definitely up there in importance. She was a scientist, being right meant a breakthrough in the quality of those human lives. At least, it would be, when she got this stupid equation right. It was just out of her reach, she needed more testing, more time.
Oh, she had gone off topic. Hono had asked a question.
While she had been her thoughts, she hadn't noticed that Cannan hadn't agreed. Instead of losing confidence at the lack of response, Winter kept her bubbly smile and suggested, "We don't have a lot of people for the more fun games, so we could do simple stuff. Two truths and a lie, favorite conspiracy theory, pet projects! That one is fun." She spun in her chair, thinking of more ideas, trying to offer something they would all agree to without a fight.
"Oh!" Winter grinned and stood up, a bit wobblily after getting dizzy from the spinning. "Food Prep!" She nodded, pulling out her phone. "We all order our favorite meal off of Auro Eats, and then we split it. Everyone shares something that makes them happy, and we all get to eat." She hadn't had breakfast today, and she knew that they tended to forget about taking care of themselves when in the middle of a project. She had often brought her parents food and drink, or forcing them to go to bed during their experiments.

Honoka "Hono" Vienna Hamada Daughter of Vanellope and Hiro Hamada
"Because Liv's looking for the best intern out of the four..." Hono paused, looking around for Sang before correcting herself. "Three of us. If she was just looking for the smartest kid in the room, she would have just one and done given us a test and gone off of that." Nevermind that it would have been either her or Winter if that was the case, because Cannan couldn't grasp a basic personality screening, and Sang apparently couldn't even bother to show up. She wasn't going to spoonfeed the importance of things like basic decency and respect for her office mates to her again, so instead she turned back to Winter, focusing on the sane person in the room.
"Sure, let's order the food, and while we're waiting for it to come, we can start with some of the games?" Because she was going to win this, and it was easier to genuinely get along with Winter than pretend to at least tolerate Cannan. That was a work skill, right? Not feeding into a workplace argument? Granted, she'd already fed into it, but she'd tried. "Which one should we start with?"

Rhiannon Lucia Leontios daughter of King Richard and Lady of the Lake
There was no making Rhiannon smile. Not today, maybe not ever again. When Roan guided her into the alcove and up the stairs, she followed numbly. Normally, she would have appreciated his support, his unwavering efforts to give her peace and solitude, but she couldn't even process. All that ran through her mind was the image of her father's sallow, sickly face as he lay there, dead and unblinking. She'd closed his eyes, so he looked like he died peacefully, but it still haunted her. All she heard were rattling breaths and her dear father's dying reassurance that this was fate and how he trusted her to do what was right.
The word fate, honestly, stuck with her.
Had King Richard known? "Fate" was such a strange word in this scenario, almost as if he had known about the scheme hatched by his daughter, her boyfriend, and the priestess. But why hadn't he stopped her? Why hadn't he put an end to this?
The second they were alone, Rhiannon let out a sob, overwhelmed.
"I can't- I can't do this, Roan. Not knowing everything I do. What if they find out. They will, we can't hide it forever, they'll figure it out and I-" Rhiannon broke off again, shaking her head frantically.

Agnarr Kell Arendelle-Bjorgman son of anna and kristoff
Agnarr answered his phone, and before he could actually greet his cousin, a loud crash was heard over the phone. The elder brother winced as he beheld the chaos that had befallen his little sister, trying to assess the best way to sum this up for Astra.
He had no idea what to even start with.
After a moment of running his eyes over the hellscape in front of him, Agnarr decided to just sigh instead, running his hand over his blonde beard before going, "Yes, Astra?" He hoped that the sounds of panic and chaos over his end of the phone would illustrate exactly how dire the situation was, and exempt him from explaining...whatever Emilia was doing.
He had just walked in on this, he hadn't figured it out, himself. "Bit of a disaster, here, how's your day?"

Tsubaki Hilaria Hamada daughter of honey lemon and tadashi hamada
"It's really hard not to take that personally when you phrase it like that, Meow." While Tsubaki's words were blunt, her bemused smile meant she knew her cousin...niece...didn't mean it offensively. She knew what she meant, that the boys were just not likely paying attention, but the wording wasn't the best. "But we might want to go ahead, and just check on the boys while we're out. She's right about contacting Basemax." This way they could go about their patrol, and just link back up with Caliban and Jang when they showed up later. Although, Tsubaki wanted to give them a sternly worded earful about keeping their phones charged in case of an emergency.
"Great, then it's settled then. Let's go." Freddie needed no further encouragement, leaping off to start the patrol. "We'll get a good look at things, stop by Jang's house, and see if things are alright, and we can knock the guys out later." Literally, if they needed to. They were probably just hanging out, but it wouldn't be shocking if they'd gotten themselves into trouble.
---"...maybe?" Caliban puzzled over that thought. Did he have work due? An appointment he'd missed maybe? "If I forgot about it though, maybe it's not super important?"

Cannan Cogsworth child of cogsworth and chandeleria Cannan bit her tongue before pointing out that this was the test. She supposed it would do little to convince either girl of the point, given their firm belief in the power of friendship and love to prove their worth in the field of science. They may live in a land of fairytales, but it didn't mean that that was the only way to get through life.
She stood by her previous point that this was the test. It was a test given out for each contestant to choose just what they wanted to do with it. It may not be paper and pen like the students still in school would expect- like Hono seemed to assume- but it was testing their creative drive and ability to put something together that would impress and help upon the world on their own. It was a test to teach themselves and create something great. It was testing their intelligence in what Cannan considered to be a far more investing turnabout than scratching scribbles on a paper to turn in for hopes of a 100%.
If Amara had wanted her new intern to be cooperative with others, then Cannan would expect her test to be a test that put people to work together. Then, only then, would Cannan have tried to be a variable friendlier to the people around her. But, that was not in the rules of this competition, so Cannan wasn't going to try to put up an unneeded farce for them.
She closed her eyes and instead let out a breathe of air, trying to remove the newfound tension in her jaw before she really did bite her tongue and start bleeding.
... She glanced down back to the pages in front of her and scribbled down a messy, emboldened TONGUE?? on her page. She doubted she stick to it for this particular purpose, but the appeal of removing a tongue and replacing it with something more efficient and interesting was interesting. Perhaps she could makes something safe enough to breath fire...
She glanced back up in a moment of bad judgement to tune back into the conversation going. What was the purpose of having a day scheduled out in their lives to work on this competition if they were going to be distracted instead?
Food, though, they settled on food. And they were trying to settle on a game. She closed her eyes before opening them to look at the papers scattered in front of her. This was one day every two weeks, right? If they were going to be distracting, she might as well play into it and do all her actual work in her free time. Hell, it could benefit her in the long run seeing as Winter and Hono were still students and therefore had more work on their shoulders in the long run. If they wanted to spend some clarified time not doing their work, then it was all the better for Cannan at least having a more-finished project compared to them.
She didn't smile, having a feeling that would feel far too fake, but she did begrudgingly, with a huff in her voice for effect, repeat Winter's offer of "Two truths and a lie." Partially because Cannan didn't delve into conspiracy theories and she'd rather hold pet projects to her heart. But food and guessing games, why not.

Oregano No-Ginger daughter of wasabi Ori lifted her eyes to squint-glare at Meow as she settled to lean on her arms to keep some semblance more of staying awake. She didn't put much effort into an expression or tone as she said, "Baki is a delight, and ignoring her is a crime. Especially we all had plans and Tsubaki was simply trying to contact them. Double the crime."
It wasn't in full seriousness that Ori said it, though Ori was still plenty willing to be offended on behalf of Tsubaki in the case they were explicitly ignoring her on purpose. It was likely more reasonable they were ignoring the whole group, and Ori would bet on it being an accident.
Ori just wasn't going to counter bet Meow's offer. Stranger things have happened in the world and Ori wasn't gonna chance ten bucks on some of that not happening, much less the idea that the boy day.
It simply was annoying they didn't forewarn the girls.
Flicking her eyes from Meow's flip to the ground and Freddie's enthusiasm to get up, Ori gave a minute sigh and got up from her chair. She'll nap when they get done with this patrol, she supposed, seeing as they was officially no reason to keep them here.
"Off we go, ey?"
