asking because i just witnessed, in answer to a prompt on facebook, all of SILs friends say theirs have been up for weeks or are putting them up tomorrow.
i find this scandalizing bc i hate that thanksgiving is just becoming an extension of christmas. we get our tree about a week before Christmas Day.
while we’re at it, do you do real or fake trees

I guess it depends on how enthusiastic we are about christmas each year. We used to do it kinda early in December back when we actually did the whole holiday thing. since money's gotten tight tho we don't really get gifts anymore and the tree goes up pretty late (~7 - 10 days before) if we even bother with it at all.
used to do real trees but now we have a fake one.

oddly specific lol. is it just a tradition to do it on the 23rd for you? we used to get ours just a few days before too, but in recent years its been really hard to find anywhere that still has trees by then. now we do it about a week before because they stop getting shipments in around then.

sometime early-ish-mid december. never before thanskgiving for sure, if only because the two kinda clash in terms of decor and mood. i always think of thanksgiving as "the" fall holiday and christmas as "the" winter one and i my family needs a while to transition.
also real or fake depends on the year. we get real when we feel like it, but have a fake one if we don't end up doing the real.

Wait what is it Christmastime already why tf ...
We usually put up our (fake) tree about a week or two before Christmas. It really seems more like an American thing at this point than a religious thing to me considering that I don't identify with any religious groups. But hey, we need to spend all our money to acquire worldly possessions, right? r i g h t ?

Nah, it's just typically the day Mom gives up on convincing Dad and I to put up the tree for her and does it herself. My sister was the only one in our family who really got into Christmas, so ever since she moved out 5 years ago, we don't really do much. Nowadays we have a dinky little tree that's 4 feet tall and takes five minutes to put up and take down, and we only have it for Mom. My dad and I really don't care if there's a tree or not. We had a house fire about 8 years ago and all of our ornaments were destroyed, so we don't even have ornaments. It's literally just this dinky little tree with some lights.

We get it maybe a week in advance, and put it up around the 23rd, but we keep it up for like 3 weeks after Christmas. Also real trees, I don't really like fake trees.

We don't really have a set time frame in our household, sometimes it's at the start of December, sometimes it's like a night or two before Christmas, and sometimes, we don't put up the tree at all.

I don't do trees but when I was still a kid the tree went up right after Halloween just because my mom really loves christmas (and thats exactly why I cannot stand it!) and sometimes it stayed up until june... We also only did a fake tree cause they were more sturdy to Feline Destruction and also didn't shed needles all over the place. It was the same tree every year though. Idk why some people are so wasteful and buy a new plastic tree every year and if you do this im 100% judging you.

And yeah my reaction exactly but my grandma's neighbors were that wasteful because they liked getting different variants of those crazy multicolored LED light up trees and whatever. But like? Thats so wasteful, and they'd just throw away the tree afterwards. When we moved my mom actually dumpster-dove their last tree cause a branch on ours finally had the wire snap completely after 13 years of use and looked kinda ragged.

Normally my family gets the tree a week or two before Christmas Pine or whatever those trees are smell good. Me and my sister like to keep some of the branches until the smell goes away and it dries out.

usually around the beginning of december (though we don't decorate it until the 23rd, which i think is an old swedish tradition but might just be my family) and then it goes down on the night of the 6th. it's always real, and the smell is just wonderful

Sometime in December, sometimes early on sometimes just before Christmas.
This is my first Christmas away from my parents and my aunt doesn't want to put up a tree this yesr but I do. Might end up getting a tiny one somewhere and decorating it just for me.

My family has had the same plastic Christmas tree for as long as I can remember. It's filled with a mishmash of plastic + paper decorations from preschool, some fancy Christmas stuff from church, and basically whatever else could be hung on there. Christmas lights come with it, and my dad turns them on every Christmas eve. It used to be upstairs where my sister and I would put our toys on there, but now it's currently in the living room where everyone pretty much ignores it.

Sometime in December. Always a real tree, not fake. My cat has no interest in the Christmas tree besides sitting underneath it.

We used to have a real tree, but we’ve been using a fake tree the last few years because we’ve been going to FL for vacation and usually leave the day after Christmas. The tree usually gets put up about 2-3 weeks before Christmas.
