Fallen’s journal
Hello! My name is fallenleaves. You can call me fallen or hoss. I love writing and saw that a friend of mine would be doing this and I thought I’d join in! Check out their journal here: .
Welcome to my journal for the 100 One-Shot-Challenge! I will do my best to keep a steady writing pace as this is essentially a mental workout for me. Critics are welcome as long as they’re seeking to be helpful. I’d love to become a better writer and this is a step towards that dream for me. However I am trying to stick to the original challenge and so all these prompts will mostly be warrior related unless I just completely run out of inspiration. I will do my best to follow the prompts in a way that’s understandable to the reader and I will always make each one at least 1500 words as is asked in the challenge.
Anyways welcome and I hope that you sadists enjoy something in the nightmare scape your about to subject yourself to.

prompts 1-15 1 "inured" Duskshadow groaned as Moonbeam applied the poultice, his prone form rigid and his eyes pressed tightly closed.
The Medicine Cat worked silently but the air was heavy with her distaste. If the tom wasn’t so badly hurt he was sure she’d be giving him an earful.
“I see treating the wounded brings out your softer side.” He panted, his warm breath bouncing off the cool stone wall just a mouse’s whisker from his nose. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
The small hollow they’d found amongst some stones on the plain would serve as his sick-den till he was healed. Or at least healed enough to walk again.
Moonbeam was silent but the distaste in the air had shifted to something heavier... maybe hate. Duskmeadow’s ears flattened in answer, his teeth aching from where he clenched his jaw tightly.
“I’m to be named leader when we reach our new home,” He grit out. “If your to be this clan’s medicine cat you and I can’t keep up this... resentful relationship.”
He heard Moonbeam shift to scoop more of the poultice onto her paw. It stung like fire as she placed it on his shoulder, the medicine alerting him to new hurts he hadn’t even physically registered till now.
The hiss of pain that came from him was directed at her unlike the last one, as it seemed she was using more force than before to press it into his wounds. “You won’t be.”
Duskmeadow just sighed, his eyes peeling open to stare morosely at the grey stone before him. If his wounds kept her barbed tongue at bay then so too did his weariness keep his. For the second time since their departure his voice took on a resigned note.
“Is it so bad that I be named leader?” He meowed, flexing his shoulder a bit as the numbness kicked in.
Moonbeam stilled, shocked by his tone. Outside wind rustled the grasses and both cats sat listening.
“No.” She meowed softly, the softest he’d ever heard her speak to anyone but Fallenleaves.
Duskshadow’s flattened ears perked in response, silently asking... *then why?*
The Medicine cat however did not answer, instead turning back her focus to her work. He didn’t have time to stop her either as she pressed medication to a nasty bite on his hindquarters. He found himself screwing his eyes shut and hissing rather than speaking and he knew it’d been on purpose.
He would not waver though and grit out, “then why?” Panting though the pain he continued, “why question me at every turn, why sow doubt when we’re already struggling?”
Moonbeam growled, her tail flicking rapidly with frustration. “You know why!”
The black she-cat stood and wiped her paws on some of the moss that Dartpaw had gathered before going out to hunt. Duskshadow watched from the corner of his eyes as she ripped it up, seemingly unaware of her flexing claws as she glared at him.
“It’s as if you haven’t listened to me once this whole journey!”
Duskshadow grunted as he pulled his front paws under him, with effort he lifted his head to meet her burning amber gaze. “How could I not?” He growled, he was too tired for this but a fire had lit in his belly and he couldn’t stop. “How could I miss ‘you weren’t supposed to be here’, ‘your not meant to lead’, and my favorite, ‘they wouldn’t have died if you’d stepped down’.” Even whilst panting from yelling and his head bobbing with the effort of holding it up, Duskshadow still managed to pull of his signature menace.
Moonbeam however, as per usual, was completely unaffected. “I’m sorry if I hurt you. But it’s true Duskshadow! You’ve refused to listen to Fallenleaves and look where it’s got us!”
“To me it looks like your the one who refuses to listen! Fallenleaves doesn’t want to lead! What am I to do, dance around till she decides? Their are cats lives at stake for starclan’s sake!”
“For Starclan’s sake? If you actually respected them you never would have taken the role.” Moonbeam hissed.
Duskshadow’s head dropped forward a bit, his glare softening into a glower. He felt dizzy and he was so tired...
“Duskshadow lay down.” The command cut through the haze that’d fallen over him and he refocused to find Moonbeam’s eyes on him. Concern showed in her eyes like a shadow, faint but there.
“I never wanted to be your enemy.” He muttered before slowly folding his legs. He swayed dangerously as he lowered himself and Moonbeam was by his side once more.
Her curly, cloud-like fur blocked the wind and light, her heat spilling forth like a wave of sun warmed water. Duskshadow had not the strength to lean into it and instead curled in on himself. A shiver racked him and he heard Moonbeam’s sharp intake of breath.
The coming night was dark and panic ridden. Moonbeam had realized with sorrow that infection and fever were already setting into the older tom. Without the proper herbs to help she sat by his side, staring into the dark and listening for his each wheezy breath. She had been forced to make Dartpaw sleep outside under the stars, since the apprentice seemed unable to stop fretting over his mentor’s health.
She was grateful when dawn broke and the first of her clanmates began to trickle back. Some came with nothing but apologies while others brought prey. Though grateful for their endless work, she felt more and more panic as each came back without any herbs.
The last to arrive was Fallenleaves who Moonbeam rushed out to butt heads with. She remained pressing chest to chest, head on her shoulder, and took strength of her predestined leader. “He won’t make it Fallenleaves.” She meowed, her voice thick with emotion. She’d never lost a clanmate she’d gotten a chance to heal but without the proper herbs... there was nothing she could do.
“Hey.” Fallenleaves stepped back, giving them room to look into each other’s eyes. “It’s going to be okay Moonbeam, we found garlic.”
“You did?” She gasped and glanced past the she-cat half expecting to see a pile of the plant behind her. But... she would have scented on Fallenleaves’ fur.
Their eyes met once more and Fallenleaves’ eyes were apologetic. “We don’t have it yet but we know where it is.” She looked past the medicine cat to the shadowy outline of the rocks they were using as their ‘camp’- if it could even be called that- the figures of resting cats encircled it. The gloom of the coming night made her clanmates hard to distinguish.
“Well... just be as quick as you can, if the infection spreads... it won’t be good.” Moonbeam meowed before turning back to lead Fallenleaves towards the clan.
—
The next morning the clan had once again dispersed, more following Fallenleaves lead this time, leaving behind Duskshadow and Moonbeam once more. As well as their faithful little guard, Dartpaw.
Moonbeam stared out over the rolling moors, brightening as the sun rose steadily higher. Dartpaw had left to hunt for them and she sat gaurd in his stead, the rough and raspy breathing of Duskshadow the only noise to break the silence.
At least until a weak, horse voice called out to her.
“Moonbeam?” Duskshadow rasped, coming to consciousness for the first time since the previous sun-high.
The said she-cat whirled round at her name and crept forward, “Duskshadow.” She meowed softly, her mind churning once more. She had nothing to give him, not even something to ease his pain or bring down his fever.
“Ah.” Duskshadow huffed as she entered his sight, his glazed eyes finding hers slowly as he shifted to her a better look. “I- I thought you left.” He swallowed thickly, a dry rasp sounding in his maw.
“Shh.” She hushed him and did what little she could, finding the water moss and bringing it to him. “Drink.” She quietly urged, slowly processing his words. Leave him? Why would he think that?
“I won’t leave your side till you’re better. I’m staying right here.” She meowed, hoping to ease whatever fevered fear he had. Maybe he’d had a nightmare.
Duskshadow looked up, a droplet of water falling from his chin. His grey glazed eyes reminded Moonbeam of rain clouds, his thoughts flashing like lightning across their surface, silent but ominous nonetheless.
“And after that?” He rumbled, his voice not sounding so dry now, only crazed.
“What?” Moonbeam sat up from where she’d been crouching at his eye level, she looked down at him with a flummoxed expression.
Duskshadow huffed and it was almost a laugh but his stormy eyes were serious, not a trace of amusement in them. “When will you look past the prophecy, past who’s leader, and just see me for me. A tom trying to hold it together, in desperate need of your help.”
Moonbeam was stunned into silence, her amber eyes wide. 2 "sinking"oops didn't write it yet 3 "father"oops didn't write it yet 4 "exploit"
