Maplestar coughed and went limp, laying still in the grass, the wind brushing his lifeless pelt. Hollow Moon stepped off the SteppeClan leader's body and hissed at the SteppeClan cat that had tried to push her off, but she didn't fight any more. She stepped off to the side and sat down, licking at a scratch on her leg.
Lichenpaw bounded away from Twisted Shadow, hoping now the tom would let up under orders from his leader. He gave all the Wanderer cats a wary distance. He didn't seem too hurt, only a few shallow scratches on his short pelt.

Tall Grass felt Swiftkill's cry go down to the bone. He had never heard a cry so sad and go so deep before. The tom held onto the she-cat and flattened his ears in unease. Only if Sky Wise would tell him to release her he would do so.
Lush Forest let go of Eaglestrike's leg at Sky Wise's call. She backed down a little, watching what was happening to Maplestar. Her green eyes travelled over the group of cats, all bloodied and hurt on both sides.

Briefly, Maplestar was in StarClan. It took him a moment to process what had just happened, but then his eyes focused and he looked around frantically. "Ravenscreech! Ravenscreech!" he called for the StarClan cat. I have to see the kits, just once, before they send me back! he thought, searching the starry bushes and landscape around him.

"Crevicekit, Creekkit, Cragkit..." Maplestar remembered their names and smiled. "I just wanted to see them. I don't think I have long here." He said, sitting in front of the three kits. "Of course I love you three, and your mother loves you more than anything." he told them.

Maplestar nuzzled each of them and gave them a few licks on their foreheads. "It's a long story." he looked sadly to Creekkit, "But when I go back I'll make sure everything will be alright." he said, though he didn't sound confident to himself. His pelt started to fade and he became transparent, being pulled away from StarClan. What was left behind was a faint shadow of Maplestar's lost life, barely visible to Ravenscreech and the kits.
Maplestar heaved in a shaking breath as he returned to life. He coughed as the killing bite on his neck sealed up completely, but the other scratches and wounds he bore were still there. He laid there to catch his breath, eyeing Sky Wise who was still standing above him.

Maplestar rose to his paws slowly, the return from StarClan gave him new strength but he knew it wouldn't last long if they started fighting again or if his wounds kept bleeding. He saw Swiftkill pinned by two Wanderers but felt helpless at what he could do. He glared back at Sky Wise. "So you have kidnapped her. Why?" He hissed.

Maplestar looked up at him, then his gaze looked distant as if he were deciding. He knew he, Eaglestrike, Sunstone, and Lichenpaw had to get back to SteppeClan so he could consult with Cherrywish, Rosepath, the guides, probably even StarClan about what to do. He turned around and stared in Swiftkill's directly defeatedly. They probably weren't going to be allowed to bring her back to SteppeClan, at least not today. "I will return home and make my decision." Maplestar said. "You have made your motives clear. Can Swiftkill return with us?" he asked.

Maplestar half expected Sky Wise to kill him again, or capture his entire patrol. The dreaded knot in his stomach unfurled then reknit as he watched Swiftkill. "I'm sorry." he mewed, staring at her then looking down in shame. He kept his gaze to the ground, knowing he wouldn't be able to turn away if he looked at Swiftkill again. With his tail he gestured Lichenpaw over, and the apprentice went to the leader's side to support him as they walked back down the valley.

(I'm sorry Morior I lost track of Sweet Water and Little Hate, maybe we could have them interact back at the camp for when the wounded huntmates return?)

(yeah, Little Hare is still with the group of Wanderers who fought)
Little Hare bounded back to the cave ahead of Sky Wise and the rest of the patrol that had gone out to meet the SteppeClan cats. She alerted the guides, especially the younger ones, to get ready to heal some wounds, though she kept hush about what had actually happened down on the slopes.
Hollow Moon gave one last snort at the departing SteppeClan cats before running up to where Tall Grass and Rumbling Thunder pinned Swiftkill. "Looks like your Clan doesn't think you're worth fighting for." She grinned cruelly at the she-cat.

Swiftkill watched Maplestar turn to leave and though a cry climbed its way up her throat she clenched her teeth and held it in. It would only hurt him more to hear it. Plus she had other problems.
Her gaze met with Sky Wise’s as he climbed his way up to her, seeing his face stained with Maplestar’s blood made her feel as if she was going to retch. She turned her head away, unable to speak.
“Let her up.” Sky Wise meowed coolly, his grey eyes as clear as frozen water. It made a shiver run down Swiftkill’s spine, this wasn’t irritation but fury.
When she stood he simply flicked his tail to the cave and she obeyed, her eyes angled back to listen to his claws on the stone. He wouldn’t kill her but... there were worst things then death. It been so long she wasn’t sure who he even was anymore. Certainly not the carefree tom she’d met in the grasses of the valley below. Something cold had grown in him though not apparent at first. As she came into the cave Rumbling Thunder looked to her sadly, before turning to his Moon-Hunter.
“Forgive me, Moon-Hunter it was my fault she escaped.”
Sky Wise looked at his champion a long moment before padding past. “She seems to have given you punishment for it.” Was his only reply as he moved deeper into the cave. “Hollow Moon, Lush Forest, tend to your own wounds before looking after the others. My Champion’s to me. Little Hare watch our guest.” He then strode all the way to the pool at the back of the cave and laid down, setting to work on cleaning his fur.
-
Eaglestrike took up the other side of his leader, ready to support if the apprentice grew tired. Sunstone led the way, scouting ahead to serch the grasses for any hidden dangers.
The old tom didn’t know what to say, his leader had just lost a life, an ancient enemy had returned and they held a clanmate captive. There was no worse a scenario that he could imagine.

White Crane sat by the camp entrance watching them return, eyes wide at the blood that streaked their pelts. He looked at Rumbling Thunder with fear and backed off to the side of the cave, crouching down.
Hollow Moon sniffed in disappointment that again the SteppeClan cat didn't respond to her. She went to the back where the other guides kept their herbs.
Little Hare returned to the patrol and circled around Swiftkill a few times, checking for injuries and noting the blood on her tail. "I could clean that up for you, before one of the guides puts herbs on it." she gestured to the SteppeClan she-cat's tail.
Maplestar struggled to walk, wobbling and stumbling a few times. The deep scratches across his flank and underbelly pricked with sharp pain but he focused on walking ahead, his mind clearing of anything else but walking back to the lake.

Little Hare nodded and licked away the blood at the end of Swiftkill's tail, seeing the scratches underneath. She spat out a bit of fur that was coming off from around the wound, then checked that it wasn't still bleeding. "Be careful with it until one of the guides sees you." Little Hare said, never moving away from Swiftkill's side.
White Crane padded up to Swiftkill's other side, like he wanted to say something, but then kept his mouth closed. Guess I'm not getting another hunting lesson. he frowned at Swiftkill's expression that was mixed with sadness, tiredness, and anger.
(I'll reply to Rosepath on SteppeClan)

Hollow Moon finished taking care of her wounds, chewing up some herbs, and then leaving the chewed up herbs for the other guides to apply to injured cats. She padded over to Sky Wise. "So now the plan is to wait for Maplestar to decide, if SteppeClan surrenders or fights?" she asked. "How long are we giving them to decide?"

"The Wanderers don't treat you like one of their own." White Crane observed. "I don't think I was supposed to help you run away." He curled his tail around his paws nervously.
