I can't believe this
Legends: Darkstalker, pp. 14-15: "He did not understand yet that he could see the future. He had no idea what the flashes meant. . . But in his mother's mind he found the idea of hope, and in his father's mind he traced the outline of something called patience."
Darkness of Dragons, pp. 355-356: "What are your new names going to be?" Qibli asked. "Oh -- I'm not sure," [Foeslayer] said. "You should be Awesomeness," Kinkajou suggested. "Salvation?" said Moon. Foeslayer laughed. "That's a little grandiose for me." (. . .) "I have a name for you," Qibli said to Foeslayer. "If you're interested." "Let's hear it," she said. He smiled at the little dragon stuffing his face with strawberries. "I was thinking maybe... Hope?" "Hope," she said thoughtfully. "I like that."
Do you think this was intentional or just a coincidence? What other instances of foreshadowing have you noticed in the series?

Oh man, I didn't even notice that!
I could probably think of an instance of foreshadowing if my brain was currently working, lol.

I never noticed that either! Usually, I would consider that to be a coincidence since it's one little word that just happened to be used twice in two situations, but knowing Tui's writing style and the fact that most of her books seem very well planned out, I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional.

Well Darkstalker's Legend DID come out long before DoD. I'd imagine Tui planned this to be very subtle forshadowing from the start.

That's what made me think it wasn't a coincidence. Darkstalker's Legend was full of little gems like that. In Clearsight's first chapter she briefly considers flying off to the Lost Continent instead of meeting Darkstalker, and of course, she eventually does just that. There's also a throwaway line about how Darkstalker would have to be "trapped underground for months with nothing else to do" to spend as much time studying the future as Clearsight did.

This is why I love Tui- she's such a good writer, you can't tell the difference between foreshadowing or coincidence in her books.

I hadn't noticed that before. That's very interesting.

I think about the hope line a lot. It's one of my favorite small details in the series, whether intentional or not.
I came across this one I somehow hadn't noticed earlier, too, which is what made me come actually post. It's also in Darkstalker:
“I’m not a dragon who goes flying in hurricanes!” she (Clearsight) said. “Do you know how unpredictable they are? The smallest wind shift or one piece of debris spinning in the wrong direction, and suddenly you’re in a whole other timeline — or everyone else is, because you’re dead.”
