Ngl, even though I like RootBristle, after Bristlefrost said that Spotfur would always have her and ThunderClan, I am now 100% on board with the idea of Spotfur and Bristlefrost raising the kits together and falling in love.

Martyr kits! YES! I totally called it. I'm surprised that Bristlefrost is already stepping into the surrogate parent role. I figured there would be some level of internal conflict there.
I love Leaf already. But I always headcanoned Squirrel and Leaf as the sisters and Moon as the tom. Ah well.
Sunshine? That's clearly meant to be Sunrise. They've made a big deal of blood relatives so far- sending two cats who have Sister ancestry, running into Leaf- why on earth would Sunshine be unrelated to them? Of course it's Sunrise.

Chapter 10: Bristlefrost
As Bristlefrost is waking up, she sees how friendly Leaf and Rootspring are to one another. She's starting to purr but stops, not wanting Spotfur or Needleclaw to see her. Bristlefrost wonders if Spotfur even feels some semblance of happiness since she knows she's pregnant, since it would mean a part of Stemleaf would live on. Needleclaw says they should hunt before leaving, and asks Rootspring to join her. He denies, explaining he wants to learn some ThunderClan hunting skills with Bristlefrost and Spotfur. Spotfur says she just wants to hunt alone, surprising Bristlefrost. Rootspring offers to let Bristlefrost come with him instead, and she accepts. As they leave, Bristlefrost remarks that Rootspring seems to like Leaf. Rootspring says Leaf is his kin, and he kind of reminded him of Tree (makes enough sense since Leaf and Tree are half-brothers). Bristlefrost says that Leaf reminded her of Rootspring. Rootspring blinks happily at her, and says that it's weird that he might be wandering too if he had been raised by the Sisters. Bristlefrost asks if he wuld have being alone all the time, but Rootspring says Leaf seems to enjoy it. Bristlefrost shivers and says she can't imagine living without a Clan. She says it's like a part of her, more than kin, even, and asks how one could possibly live without the warrior code to guide them. Rootspring says the Sisters must have their own code, and is probably the one that enforces that all toms need to leave, otherwise they'd be no better than loners. Bristlefrost argues that it seems like they're loners anyways, but Rootspring denies. Bristlefrost changes the conversation to how she thinks things are getting back to normal now that Squirrelflight's in charge. Rootspring questions how, since she hasn't been accepted by StarClan. Bristlefrost asserts she's doing her best until they can get Bramblestar back. Rootspring asks what if they can't, and if Bristlefrost would ever consider leaving ThunderClan. She says she'll always be loyal to ThunderClan, but feels a tugging in her belly as she realizes that ThunderClan definitely did not feel like the same Clan she was raised in. Rootspring says he hopes they can find the Sisters, and if they get Bramblestar back, things will go back to normal. Bristlefrost hopes they're able to.
Rootspring and Bristlefrost continue hunting until they hear the terrified shriek of Spotfur. They face across a meadow until they find Spotfur being dragged away by a hawk. Before they can reach her, Needleclaw bolts across the meadow and launches herself onto the hawk's wing, and Bristlefrost attacks the other wing. The hawk struggles and drops Spotfur, but Spotfur claws the hawk and clings on. Rootspring calls for her to let it go, but Spotfur either doesn't hear him, or ignores him. Needleclaw and Bristlefrost fall off, while Spotfur claws the hawk mid-flight, and the hawk tries to get her off. Bristlefrost yowls for her to let go, and the hawk is able to regain it's balance, kicking off Spotfur. Spotfur snarls at Bristlefrost that she nearly had it. Needleclaw and Rootspring tell her that it was too big to be caught. Spotfur begins to argue, but her shoulder winces in pain, and she say she thinks she's wrenched it. Needleclaw snorts that Spotfur should be grateful that the wrenched shoulder is the worst thing that happened, and she could have been killed. Needleclaw begins scolding her for putting herself, her unborn kits, and Bristlefrost and herself in danger, asking if all ThunderClan warriors chase after prey too dangerous to catch. Spotfur snaps that she's fine. Rootspring says that yowling at each other won't help anyone, and says he and Needleclaw will finish the hunt while Bristlefrost helps Spotfur.
When Rootspring and Needleclaw leave, Bristlefrost remarks that it's not like Spotfur to take unnecessary risks. Spotfur mutters she was hunting, and Bristlefrost says Spotfur needs to be more careful with her kits in mind. Spotfur narrows her eyes and asks what if she doesn't want the kits. Bristlefrost mews that they're Stemleafs, and Spotfur snaps that Stemleaf isn't here. She yells at Bristlefrost, saying that they were supposed to live in ThunderClan and raise their kits with love and together, but now that won't be happening since Stemleaf is dead and ThunderClan doesn't feel safe anymore. Bristlefrost says things will get better, but Spotfur says that the kits will only remind her of the life she wanted with Stemleaf. Bristlefrost says that the kits will serve as a connection to Stemleaf, and he can watch over them in StarClan. Spotfur hisses that StarClan is gone, and Bristlefrost says they'll get them back. Needleclaw and Rootspring return with prey and ask if Spotfur is doing better, but they scent an unfamiliar scent near their camp, and they spot a muscular yellow she-cat approaching them. Rootspring however, looks delighted, and says she's one of the Sisters, telling her that Leaf said they would be nearby, and they've been looking for them. It's Sunrise, Tree's sister. She introduces herself, asking how they saw Leaf, and Bristlefrost notes that Sunrise has fur so thick, it's a wonder how she keeps it groomed. Needleclaw says they met him, and he's alive and well, and tells the group that they found the Sisters.

O M G OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG DARKNESS WITHIN IS ALREADY MY FAVORITE OUT OF TBC OMGSDHSDJEJHJDJKJ I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT, AHHH!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, Hollyfall !!!!! *cough* anyway As I was reading, I was beginning to question if Spotfur was pregnant. She is! That actually is so cool. And RootxBristle... although it was rushed in the first few books, it seems better here. But I still don't want them to be together. And wow, I love Leaf! He's so awesome! And I wonder if we'll get an evil Shadowsight? Because he and Ashfur certainly are spending a lot of time together. That actually sounds super appealing, and we'd finally get an antagonist PoV. Or anti-villain. Or anti-hero... depends on which way they write it. Shadowsight has leveled up over Bristlefrost. Now my favorites go Root, Shadow, Bristle. Lightleap is such a nice sister! And Needleclaw! Oh, wow. I love me some spoilers.

The SpotStem kits I predicted and am glad that they are legit, but I also feel sad for Spotfur for probably not wanting them. I don't exactly blame her though, she wanted a happy life with Stemleaf with those kits and he died so early in their relationship it must be painful to carry something to remember him rather than getting that happy life with her mate. She's probably being reckless just to not be burdened by them, kinda dark, but I really feel for Spot tbh... I hope she gets better soon, or that the ghosts that died last book can at least come back so that she can see Stemleaf again.
Idk what to feel about the Sisters actually coming back, I hate them so much and all. While I am curious about the potential new leader, I don't have high opinions on them to be excited of their return in the main books either.

Spot is being self-destructive out of grief, which is understandable but concerning. I have a few predictions for her.
-She might get iced after giving birth, Silverstream style.
-She loses her kits from stress or putting herself in danger.
-She stays with the sisters with her kits since TC reminds her of Stemleaf too much.
-She stays with the sisters and her kits go back with the others.
-She gets to see Stemleaf's spirit and he encourages her to keep living for the kits.

Which is his next chapter? Probably the chapter after this.

This is why I want to quit the series. The clans always critizice others beliefs of cats way of life. They seem to think their way of life and belief is the best and only right one. Sometimes they act full of themselves.

I'm glad we are getting more spotlight on family relations and that there is more attention to getting names right and such. Really a step up with the editing team so far.
Also I love Leaf. I didn't realize he was that old. I figured he was closer to an apprentice age but forgot he was born in SQ 👀
