Ah, yes, I love these threads! I'm liking Rootspring more and more- his character is actually going somewhere. I wonder if RootBristle is going to be brought up in this book.

Chapter 6: Rootspring
Tree and Rootspring are in Leafstar's den explaining that they saw no Clan cat ghosts at the vigil. Leafstar is trying to decide their next course of action, and Rootspring explains that he hasn't seen the ghosts of the cats who died in battle in about a quarter moon, and Bramblestar's in one full moon. They tell her that they think the dead cats are fading away. Leafstar sighs, and says that if that's true, then it's a matter all Clans should discuss. Later, after the other leaders are informed (emergency gathering), Tigerstar remarks that if it's true, then Bramblestar's ghost is likely gone too. Squirrelflight asks how he could say such a thing. Harestar says that their clanmates are disappearing, and they need to help them. Leafstar asks how, and Willowshine says that even if StarClan abandoned them, they wouldn't abandon the dead. Kestrelflight asks how they could even help without StarClan, and Frecklewish says they must try harder to contact them. Jayfeather says they've tried everything they know. Tigerstar says that Ashfur is the one who's caused all this and if they deal with him, it may solve everything. Squirrelflight says that he wanted to kill Bramblestar before they knew it was Ashfur, and to not convince any cat that it's about the good of the clans. Tigerstar stares her down and says that they're wasting resources in keeping Bramblestar's murderer alive for no good reason. Squirrelflight rebukes that Ashfur has Bramblestar's body. Tigerstar darkly says that it sounds like Bramblestar doesn't need it anymore. Leafstar steps between them and says they don't know that for certain. Tigerstar reiterates that it's been a moon since Bramblestar's ghost was last seen, and the cats who died a quarter moon ago are already fading, then Bramblestar likely already has. He asks why they're keeping Ashfur alive when his very existence could be blocking out StarClan, and says they should kill him and be done with it. Harestar frowns and asks if he's sure it'll be so simple. Tigerstar says yes, since Ashfur has caused issues for not only the dead, but the living too. Mistystar concedes Tigerstar has a point. Squirrelflight reasons that Shadowsight saw Bramblestar in the Dark Forest, and she realizes he's not present, asking where he is. Tigerstar and Mothwing explain that he's decided to focus on his training, but Squirrelflight flattens her ears and asks if he's actually being punished for passing on Ashfur's messages. Tigerstar denies, but Squirrelflight isn't convinced. She says if any cat should hold a grudge against Shadowsight, it should be her, but she doesn't, as he was young and didn't know any better. Mothwing explains that she belives that too, and some extra training won't hurt him. Rootspring feels pity for Shadowsight, remembering their close friendship.
Squirrelflight asserts that regardless of Shadowsight's training, he still saw Bramblestar and therefore the ghost is still out there, so they can't harm Ashfur in Bramblestar's body. Tigerstar asks how long Squirrelflight wants them to wait. Rootspring feels bad for Squirrelflight, but sees that the other leaders do have a point about Ashfur being a threat. Squirrelflight turns to Leafstar and asks for her opinion. Leafstar admits that waiting longer may not be beneficial to their Clanmates who may just vanish forever. Tigerstar asks Squirrelflight what they could possibly do aside from kill the cat who instigated it all. Alderheart speaks up and says that the don't even know if killing Bramblestar's body will stop Ashfur. Mistystar asks him to explain, and Alderheart reminds them that Shadowsight said he saw Ashfur leave Bramblestar's body once, and if they kill Bramblestar's body, what's stopping Ashfur from just going into another one. Alderheart says that if they genuinely cannot kill Ashfur, then they're murdering Bramblestar for no good reason, which makes Tigerstar stand very still in contemplation. Harestar blinks and says that maybe killing Ashfur would let Bramblestar back in. Mistystar brings up that Harestar came back after he died, and theoretically, Bramblestar should do the same. Squirrelflight asks what if he doesn't return if they kill Ashfur, and Tigerstar says that then they'll know he's truly gone. Leafstar concedes that before they do anything, they should firmly establish that Bramblestar's ghost is gone. Tigerstar growls that he's had plenty of time to show himself, given that they have many skilled medicine cats as well as Tree and Rootspring. Mistystar uneasily says that maybe he really is gone. Squirrelflight, trembling, asks if they all think they should kill Bramblestar. Tigerstar says they have to do something. She asks what if he's wrong, and says they don't even fully understand the situation he's in. Rootspring says that he was the first to see Bramblestar's ghost, and he wouldn't give up on Rootspring when he still appeared, and Rootspring says he won't give up on Bramblestar, pleading to give Bramblestar more time to show up. Tree agrees, and says they need to be absolutely sure on what they're doing, reminding the leaders that there are more cats out there who know about spirits better than they do.
Rootspring gasps the Sisters, and Tigerstar rolls his eyes, calling them a bunch of troublemakers. Tree ignores him, and says that while he isn't sure they can help, they may at least understand what's happening. He tells Tigerstar that they need advice, and the Sisters are, given the circumstances, the best ones to give it. Leafstar says they tried one of there ceremonies before and it failed. Tree explains that they just want to figure out if Bramblestar's spirit exists near the lake, not calling him out. Squirrelflight says that copying one of their ceremonies may not be as effective, since the Sisters know how it works, and Tree says they're more powerful. Kestrelflight snorts that no rogue could be more powerful than StarClan. Squirrelflight retorts that the Sisters are not rogues. The leaders form a reluctant agreement that the Sisters are arguably their best choice, and ask Tree where they might be. Tree speculates that with greenleaf nearly here, they're probably heading towards the hills, looking beyond the Moonpool. Harestar says they should find the Sisters, see what they have to say, and then make a final verdict. Mothwing asks what they're going to do if the Sisters cannot find Bramblestar, and Tigerstar replies that then they'll have no choice but to kill Ashfur. Harestar comforts Squirrelflight and says that with any luck, Bramblestar will begin his new life as himself, just as he did during the battle. Leafstar concedes with Harestar. Tigerstar growls that the Sisters are not welcome on ShadowClan land, and Harestar and Mistystar agree. Leafstar says that they can stay on SkyClan land.
Leafstar asks Tree when he can leave, but Tree tells her he's not going. He owes the Sisters nothing, and they owe him nothing, just as he likes it. Rootspring protests that Tree is their kin, but Tree says that so is Rootspring, and Rootspring's relationship with them is far less complicated than his own. Rootspring is baffled that Tree wants him to go despite not having seen the Sisters since he was a kit, but Tree says that there's no one else he trusts more with the mission. Rootspring agrees, and Leafstar suggests he take Needleclaw too, as she is also descended from the Sisters. Leafstar asks if the other Clans will send warriors to help. Only Squirrelflight speaks up, and says she will give Bristlefrost and Spotfur to them so they can help. Rootspring asks if Spotfur is still mourning Stemleaf, but Squirrelflight says that a mission will help her focus. Rootspring then feels delighted in being able to see Bristlefrost, but knows that they're both warriors now and entrusted with a special mission. He concludes that he and Bristlefrost are friends and it's all they ever will be, but hopes he's strong enough to stand by that decision.

Chapter 5: Shadowsight
Shadowsight and Mothwing are working in the medicine den, and although Shadowsight appreciates Mothwing, she's usually insisting on her methods of doing things. He knows Mothwing is having difficulty adjusting, and so is Icewing and Harelight. Scorchfur comes into the den and explains he cut his paw. Shadowsight is about to help him but Mothwing intervenes and does it "her way" and talks over Shadowsight when he explains the way he does things. The two begin to argue until Cloverfoot comes in and tells them to knock it off as she can hear it from the other side of the camp. She adds that Tigerstar wants to see both of them. When they go into Tigerstar's den, Puddleshine and Tigerstar are already there. Mothwing goes "I suppose you know why I'm here", and it's revealed that Mothwing is worried about how competent a Medicine cat Shadowsight is. Shadowsight begins to argue but Tigerstar says that while he has faith in his son, he also values Mothwing's experience. Mothwing says she thinks Shadowsight received his name too early, and the only reason he got his name was because he "saved" Bramblestar, but obviously he didn't. Shadowsight objects that he was no older than Puddleshine when his mentor got his full name, but Mothwing says the circumstances were different, and she reveals that some in the Clan wait for him to leave so either Puddleshine or herself can treat them. Shadowsight is baffled and said that he thought his treatment of Bramblestar was from StarClan, but Mothwing interjects that was from Ashfur, and he only ended up causing issues for them. Shadowsight begins to feel awful again about killing Bramblestar. Tigerstar sees this and says that no cat is blaming him, and Mothwing says he was just inexperienced which is why Ashfur appealed to him. Mothwing wants to demote Shadowsight to an apprentice again. Shadowsight looks for support but Tigerstar, Puddleshine, and Mothwing are all in agreement. He meekly asks if he will be renamed to Shadowpaw again, but Tigerstar and Puddleshine deny. Shadowsight asks what he's even supposed to do then, and Tigerstar says that Puddleshine had an idea.
Puddleshine decided that Shadowsight was to heal Ashfur's wounds. Shadowsight is unhappy about this, and wonders if they think he'll be so careless that he'll "accidentally" kill Ashfur, and becomes bitter that he's supposed to heal the cat who ruined his life and tried to kill him. In his prison, Ashfur's made no attempt to take care of himself. His wounds from Reedwhisker and Hawkwing are ruffled and bloody. Ashfur asks if he's still a medicine cat then, and Shadowsight gets annoyed with him, asking why wouldn't he be. Ashfur says that he thought his clanmates might think twice about trusting him after Shadowsight passed on his messages so effectively. Shadowsight growls that he didn't know they were Ashfur's messages. Ashfur asks why Puddleshine didn't come to treat him, and Shadowsight replies that he's busy, eying Sagenose and Mintfur (they're guarding Ashfur at this time). Ashfur sees this and asks if he's scared that they'll think they're friends. Shadowsight hisses that they will never be friends, and Ashfur's eyes sparkle knowingly, reminding him that he's helped him so much. Ashfur tells Shadowsight that they're quite alike, which infuriates Shadowsight and he screams at him that they are not. Ashfur tips his head and says that neither of them "really belongs". Shadowsight glares at him and says he belongs.
Ashfur is unconvinced, and asks if cats who speak to the dead truly belong. Shadowsight notes that although Ashfur has Bramblestar's body, he has the slinking figure of a rogue. Shadowsight asks why. Ashfur is puzzled, and asks him to elaborate. Shadowsight demands to know why Ashfur chose him specifically to kill Bramblestar. Ashfur actually seems to take his own answer into consideration, but answers with: "You were young and impressionable. And you could already share with StarClan. It helped that you were Tigerstar's son. Anyone who questioned you would have had to answer to him. And Tigerstar is so stubborn and loyal, he'd defend you no matter how crazy your visions sounded." Shadowsight says that Ashfur has ruined his life. Ashfur says that Shadowsight should stop feeling sorry for himself, reminding him that he's still technically a Medicine cat, and a natural one at that. Shadowsight is intrigued, and Ashfur explains that Shadowsight was perceptive enough to hear his messages, and he may have been smarter than he thought in choosing Shadowsight. Shadowsight is curious as to why Ashfur of all cats seems to have faith in him. He knows Ashfur is a liar, but perhaps his time in StarClan taught him something the living didn't know. Ashfur lowers his voice, and says "I'm beginning to see that there may be something about you after all. Something very special indeed."

The Sisters are coming back! Rootspring, Needleclaw, Spotfur and Bristlefrost are tasked with finding them. Yay! I may not be a huge fan, but I am curious to who the new leader is. Also, to see status on Leaf, Moon and Squirrel. We don't actually know who is who on genders.
I feel really bad for Shadowsight. Even Squirrelflight doesn't blame him for what happened. Also, it looks like he'll be our only POV at the lake for a spell.

Chapter 7: Bristlefrost
Bristlefrost is excited that Squirrelflight chose her to go on the mission to find the Sisters, and is happy to be able to see Rootspring, but knows she'll have to keep her feelings in check. She thinks she and Rootspring work well together, almost like Clanmates, and she gets excited at that thought. She looks at the horizon and claims it's beautiful, but Rootspring is keeping close to Spotfur, who's gaze hasn't left the ground since they started. Needleclaw looks wary, like she's expecting something bad to happen. She thinks to herself that ThunderClan had seemed lost since Flipclaw and the others left, and it reminds her of when Ashfur was leading ThunderClan. She reports to her patrol that she can't see any twolegplaces, only a few dens spotted here and there. Rootspring says that the Sisters must have travelled this way, and says that Tree told him to try and find a cat named Pancakes who could help them, but he stops himself mid sentence as he takes in the view. Spotfur finally looks up and says that there's so much territory beyond the lake. Needleclaw asks if they're really going to try and find the Sisters in all that space, and Bristlefrost says they have to. Bristlefrost (basically leading the patrol here) says they should start at the dens to look for Pancakes. Needleclaw says that Rootspring is in charge, and he decides where they go. Bristlefrost says they each have a voice in the mission. Rootspring says that Bristlefrost's idea sounds good. Once Spotfur and Needleclaw are out of earshot, Bristlefrost thanks Rootspring for backing her up. Rootspring murmurs that they should try to get along, and Bristlefrost agrees, but thinks to herself that only because Needleclaw is Rootspring's sister. Bristlefrost thinks that this is what she was meant to do, to help ThunderClan and bring back StarClan. As dusk sets, Bristlefrost's paws hurt. They've met plenty of kittypets, but none of them knew the Sisters, and she begins to wonder if they've gone the wrong way. Spotfur mutters "mouse dung!", and and she accidentally put her paw in a burrow. As Bristlefrost looks at her, she sees Spotfur looks weary. Bristlefrost suggests making camp for the night and hunt. Rootspring agrees, but says he wants to hunt with Needleclaw. He explains that they've been hunting together since they were kits, and "We kind of make a good team". Bristlefrost tries to make conversation with Spotfur, but she isn't interested in talking. They spot a twoleg nest in the distance and think that maybe Pancakes lives there. They head on over to the twoleg yard and hop down, but as soon as they do, they hear a growl and realize there's a dog in the yard. They quickly scale back up the fence, but the dog's owner sees this and calls the dog back and hauls it inside the nest. As they catch their breath, they hear a noise in the grass and see two kits racing towards them. The two stop in front of them with wide, excited eyes.
The larger kit asks if they saw Spike, and the other asks if he scared them before both breaking into loud purrs. Bristlefrost is annoyed that the kits think it was amusing, and the larger kit says he probably just wanted to say hello, and the other adds that Spike loves cats, as they live with him. Bristlefrost is horrified, and even more so when the kits explain that their twolegs wash and feed him. Bristlefrost asks if a cat named Pancakes lives around here. The kits look at eachother and the larger one says he used to, but is gone now. The other kit says that they're his kits. His name is Bacon, and the other kit is Eggs. Bristlefrost thinks these are the dumbest kittypet names yet. Bacon asks if they want to play tag. Bristlefrost denies, explaining that they're looking for friends. Eggs says they can be their friends. Spotfur clarified that they're looking for old friends, which makes Eggs sad. The two press the kits about the Sisters, and the two don't know anything about the Sisters. Spotfur asks about toms, and they may have had names like Stone or Branch, and she's cut off by Bacon, who replies "Leaf!". Bristlefrost thinks that Leaf is a name the Sisters would use. Eggs says that Leaf stopped by and played tag with them once. Bacon asks if they're sure they don't want to play tag, since it's really fun. Bristlefrost declines and Spotfur asks where Leaf went. Eggs says Leaf left a group of cats heading toward the river to make their camp for the warm season, and gives them directions. Bristlefrost gets excited to tell Rootspring the news.
At their makeshift camp, Needleclaw grunts that they must surely come, but Bristlefrost isn't sure considering the history the Clans have had with the Sisters. Rootspring says that Needleclaw usually gets her way one way or another and if any cat can convince them to come back, she can. He brings up that Bristlefrost made several warriors rebel against Ashfur too, so the two of them together can convince them. Needleclaw declares she's sleepy, and Bristlefrost offers to take the first watch, and she thinks that she'll probably take Spotfur's too, since the gray-and-white she-cat seems exhausted. Later, Rootspring wakes up and stands watch with Bristlefrost. Bristlefrost admits to him that some of their clanmates have left to go figure out their place in the Clan. Rootspring shifts so his flank is against hers, and asks if she thinks they'll be returning.
She says she doesn't know. She hopes so, but isn't sure. She says that even Graystripe left, and Squirrelflight took that hardest of all. Rootspring says it must be very worrying, and she confirms, but she's glad to be out here with him. Rootspring says the moon seems bigger out here, and Bristlefrost agrees, happily thinking that spending time with Rootspring was wonderful.

*Laughs super hard* Someone must have been really hungry when they named these kits. Bacon and Eggs? Pancakes? Lol!
Yay, Leaf has finally been given a confirmed gender. And he's also back. I also love how Stone and Branch are referenced here. I guess this means that Squirrel and Moon are both she-cats.
So, I guess this confirms it. Bristlefrost does seem to have feelings for Rootspring.

what feelings does she need to hide or control? her feelings for root HAVE to be fake or else it's very bad writing.
her feelings for root were rushed so this forcefulness in her chapter is making me so angry!

Chapter 8: Shadowsight
As Shadowsight wakes up, he sees Mothwing and Puddleshine have left already, but isn't sure why. He says that Ashfur's battle wounds have healed up and aren't inflamed anymore. He figures he can speed up the healing with some goldenrod and dock, and as he's going into the den's storage to grab some, Mothwing appears at the den entrance, asking what he's doing. Shadowsight says he's getting some herbs for Ashfur. Mothwing says she left him a bundle, and Shadowsight asks if there's any goldenrod or dock. Mothwing says he doesn't need it, and he's still under supervision. Fuming, Shadowsight leaves the den and goes to Ashfur's prison. Breezepelt and Sedgewhisker are on guard this time, and joking about how ShadowClan could live concealed in a forest. They stop as Shadowsight approaches, and Shadowsight can't figure out if it's because a ShadowClan cat is approaching, or if it's him specifically. Shadowsight greets them. Breezepelt says mumbles hi, and Sedgewhisker grunts. As he passes them, he thinks that's a failed medicine cat and it's apparent enough that the clans blame him for letting Ashfur coming to ThunderClan.
As he enters the prison, Ashfur slinks out from the shadows, and is actually...pleased to see Shadowsight. He greets him, and asks what he has for him today. Shadowsight doesn't say anything and begins chewing the leaves Mothwing gave him. Ashfur says that he needs some exercise. Shadowsight says it's best that he rests until his wounds are healed. Ashfur retorts that he needs to stay fit. Shadowsight asks why, and Ashfur snarks that the Clans can't keep him here forever. Shadowsight finds it strange that although Ashfur looks like Bramblestar, his voice is different. Ashfur asks if he's heard any news from ThunderClan. Shadowsight grunts no. Ashfur asks about Squirrelflight, his eyes narrowing with interest. Shadowsight says no cat has mentioned her, and Ashfur asks if he thinks she'll be visiting him soon. Ashfur tells him that the other leaders must have forced her into lying to him and betraying him, and she still loves him, his eyes sparking with the thought of having her as a denmate.
Shadowsight: "I'm surprised you want to see her again." Ashfur: "She couldn't help what happened last time. The other leaders must have forced her into betraying me like that. They were listening to every word she said. If she hadn't betrayed me, they'd have made her a prisoner too." Shadowsight: "I don't think Squirrelflight will visit you again." Ashfur: "If she could, we could talk things out. We might be able to come to an agreement." Shadowsight: "Like what?" Ashfur: "If she agreed to leave with me, I wouldn't bother the Clans anymore. Then no cat would have to suffer." Shadowsight: "What if Squirrelflight doesn't want to leave with you?" Ashfur: "She must. She's a warrior. She'll do anything for her Clan."
Shadowsight finishes up, and Ashfur thanks him, saying he's a good medicine cat, but asks what good is he if he can't heal anymore. Shadowsight knows Ashfur is gaslighting him, and says he's healing him. Ashfur asks about when he's gone, and wonders if he's going to spend the rest of his life cleaning bedding. Shadowsight says he won't, and begins to say when StarClan comes back, but Ashfur cuts him off and, with his whiskers twitching with amusement, says StarClan isn't coming back. Shadowsight says they will. Ashfur's gaze burns into Shadowsight's, and asks if the Clans will genuinely believe any message coming from Shadowsight again. Ashfur leans closer, and says he has no skills beyond healing, since he isn't even trained as a warrior. Shadowsight puffs out his chest and says he can learn. Ashfur sneers that he could be mediator like Tree, or whatever Tree calls himself so he can feel special and think like he actually contributes something. Shadowsight stares at him, and asks why he enjoys making other cats miserable. Ashfur implores that he and Shadowsight are more alike than he thinks. Shadowsight lashes his tail and says they aren't. Ashfur says that he's a warrior who is not a warrior, and Shadowsight is a medicine cat who is not a medicine cat. Shadowsight rebukes that Ashfur was a warrior, and he's been dead a long time and storms out of the den, but as he leaves, Ashfur calls out "I don't feel dead, thanks to this body!"
As Shadowsight storms out, Breezepelt and Sedgewhisker are staring at him, asking if he is really allowed to treat him alone. Shadowsight angrily says he is, but the two ask if he's even a medicine cat. Shadowsight replies he is, but Sedgewhisker reminds him he killed Bramblestar. Shadowsight feels shame, wondering if that's what every cat thinks. He storms away from them to do to the medicine den, but stops himself, since he obviously didn't belong there either. He doesn't belong anywhere. He hopes Bramblestar comes back, so then he can verify that Shadowsight didn't kill him. He sees Lightleap dragging an old nest out of a den with Hollowspring and Gullswoop. Shadowsight realizes he's never going to be good at anything, and thinks he'll be better off as a loner. As despair begins to cloud him, Lightleap appears and asks if he's okay. Shadowsight isn't sure what to say, but Lightleap seems to understand he's stressed, asking if he'd like something to do. She says Blazefire, Hollowspring, Gullswoop, and herself were going hunting, and asks if he wants to tag along. Shadowsight's misery begins to melt, and thanks her for involving him. As Shadowsight goes out with them, he tries to scent prey, but Hollowspring suddenly yowls rabbit and bounds after it, with Blazefire following him. Shadowsight watches the two, Lightleap explains the tactics they're using and how a sure kill is better than a quick kill. Blazefire and Hollowspring kill the rabbit, and Shadowsight sees how good Lightleap works with the other warriors, thinking that maybe he's been missing out since he mostly works alone. Lightleap encourages him to scent prey, though Shadowsight has some trouble, admitting his nose is used to the scent of herbs. He scents mouse, and Lightleap confirms. The warriors move in for the kill, but then a bee suddenly buzzes into Shadowsight's ear making him yelp. The mouse scurries off, leading Hollowspring to call Shadowsight a mouse brain. Shadowsight explains a bee flew into his ear. Blazefire finds it funny, and Gullswoop jokes that bees are a warrior's greatest enemy, and Blazefire adds they're more dangerous than foxes. Hollowspring however, remarks that he guesses it's okay for some cats to ruin a hunt. Lightleap demands to know what he meant by that, and Hollowspring says he isn't sure it's wise to criticize one of Tigerstar's kin. Lightleap is speechless, while Blazefire and Gullswoop are uncomfortable. Hollowspring growls and turns away, grunting that the Clan will starve if they don't pick up the pace. Shadowsight wonders if every cat in ShadowClan resents him. He thought once that they realized he made a mistake and forgave him, but he isn't sure now, and worries that his Clanmates had turned on him without him realizing.

Oh, Shadowsight. :c At least Lightleap is still there for her brother. And Blazefire and Gullswoop still seem to be okay with him. But Hollowspring was being so mean in this scene. And we have poor Shadowsight wondering if he would be better off as a loner.

Chapter 9: Rootspring
Rootspring recalls that Spotfur said she's been feeling nauseous and she's been getting more and more tired lately. Needleclaw remarks that they must have found the river by now, and wonders if those kits even knew where they were headed. Rootspring wonders this too, but he can't help but keep remembering the night he had with Bristlefrost. Needleclaw jabs his shoulder and asks if he's thinking about her. Rootspring glances at Bristlefrost and Needleclaw hisses that she knew it, and says he has to get over her, as it won't work out. Rootspring says they're just friends, but Needleclaw retorts that he should find a "friend" in his own Clan, and if they continue to hang out, they could get in trouble. Rootspring protests that there's no cat like her, and she's so strong, and been through so much, and since the Clans are working together more lately, things might change. Needleclaw says he's fooling himself if he thinks that. Rootspring changes the subject and asks if she sees the river, which they don't. Rootspring and Needleclaw try to figure out where they went wrong. They spot more twoleg dens, and agree they probably shouldn't have listened to kits for directions. Rootspring says it's the only lead the have, and Bristlefrost says they've come this far, might as well keep going. They head down to a twolegplace and enter it, skirting around and taking in the sights. They cross a Thunderpath, and help Spotfur who is getting more and more weary.
They avoid more monsters, and some thunderpaths. They encounter some dogs and try to get away, scaling a fence onto a shed, but the dogs won't leave them alone. A large gray tom begins slinking across the yard, and alerts the cats that there's a hole in the fence that is too small for the dogs. The cats dash across and see that the tom is telling the truth. When they enter the hole, the gray tom follows behind them, slashing at the dogs. The tom turns around, purring. Rootspring wonders if he's a kittypet, but doesn't think so, as kittypets can't be that brave. Rootspring sees he has huge, powerful shoulders and a lustrous pelt that reminds him of Tree's. The tom asks if they're all right. Bristlefrost exclaims that he saved their lives, and the tom laughs that the dogs will be angry about it for a moon. Bristlefrost says he was so brave, and the tom shrugs, saying he's dealt with them before. He inspects the four, and say the don't look like everkits. Bristlefrost is confused by the term, and Rootspring explains it's the Sisters' term for kittypets. The tom asks what they're doing here, and Needleclaw and Bristlefrost explain they're looking for a cat named Leaf, and if he knows him. The tom is surprised, and says he is Leaf, and Rootspring feels his heart surge. Leaf asks why they were looking for him, and Bristlefrost explains they're trying to find the Sisters, and he may know where they are. Leaf narrows his eyes, asking why he would know that. Bristlefrost begins to speak, but her voice trails away from the "handsome tom". Rootspring says he looks like the Sisters, and Leaf purrs that so does Rootspring. Rootspring says that the Sisters are his kin, and Needleclaw is his littermate. Leaf is surprised to see that the Sisters have their "claws so wide", and asks Spotfur if she is also kin to the Sisters. She denies, and Leaf replies that it's a shame, as new kits always brings a blessing to their ancestors. Spotfur stiffens at the mention of new kits, and repeats the words. Leaf is surprised, pointing out that she is clearly expecting some. Rootspring notices that Spotfur's flanks did seem swollen, and he realizes that her weariness and exhaustion suddenly makes sense. Spotfur begins to panic, insisting that she can't be. Bristlefrost says that she's expecting Stemleaf's kits, and each day, Stemleaf will live on with her. Spotfur is horrified, asking how she can possibly raise them alone. Bristlefrost says she won't be alone, since she has her and ThunderClan. Leaf pricks his ears at the mention of ThunderClan, asking if they're warriors. Rootspring nods, and Leaf becomes wary, asking why they're searching for them if the Clans drove them from their camp. Rootspring says that it was moons ago. Needleclaw says they need help finding a lost Clanmates. Leaf is doubtful, asking what the Sisters could even prove. Rootspring says because they may know more than they do. Leaf says they're travelling alongside the river. The other cats say they haven't found one, and Leaf is surprised, claiming he can hear it. He points them towards the "sunrise-place". He then adds that he can locate them, but it will take a while. The cats are confused on what he means by "locate", and Leaf explains that the earth talks to him, and it does for all toms born of the Sisters. He goes into a battle stance, and slowly pushes his paws into the earth, closing his eyes. Rootspring wonders if Tree can do that, or if he can.
After a bit, Leaf recovers and says they'll need to cross the water. It might be dangerous, but there's no rush as one of their members, Sunshine, is heavy with kits, and will stay put for at least a moon. Leaf offers to travel with them, and as Rootspring is about to agree, Needleclaw says she'd like to speak to Rootspring alone. The two step away, and she asks if he's really going to be listening to a stranger. Rootspring argues that Leaf helped them from the dogs, and they don't have better options at the moment. Needleclaw grumbles that he sounds just like a sparrow chick and asks why he would follow someone he just met. As they're talking, Leaf approaches. He apologizes for interrupting, but he can see they don't trust him. He says he understands, and although they may be kin, they chose different paths. Rootspring dips his head respectfully. Leaf goes on and says he has no reason to mislead them. He says that although the battle was moons ago, the Clans still drive out the Sisters, but their kin helped out his kin afterwards, and he may have died alongside his mother, Moonlight, if not for that. Rootspring is surprised, and asks how Leaf can act so forgiving. Leaf says "I don't judge one cat by another cat's actions. If your Clan is in trouble, I can't let you suffer. I will give you directions to the Sisters. You can travel there alone". Rootspring dips his head respectfully, and Bristlefrost asks him to stay the night, so they can hunt and share catches. Leaf blinks at her happily, thanking her, and says he'd enjoy that.

Leaf! He's so kind, just like he's namesake. I wonder who Sunshine is. Unless they gave Sunrise the wrong name.
Also, Spotfur's pregnant! The moment I read that she was getting more and more tired, I instantly knew it. I'm so happy right now. I was hoping she would have Stemleaf's kits.
Bristlefrost seems to like Leaf. Hm.

I'm all for having negative opinions, but this is honestly a bit much.. It's fine if you keep sharing them, just... try not to be so intense about it. They're just cat books.

No offense, but this was rude of you. She doesn't like certain elements of the story and voiced it on a thread where everyone is discussing the book. She spoilered it, too. You can simply reclose her comment and move on. Not shame her for sharing her opinions.

I'm so excited about Spotfur and Stemleaf's kits! I wonder what they'll look like, and what their names will be?

I hope majority of them will look like Stemleaf because I don't want more boring gray cats.

I'm glad she's having kits, honestly. It's not like it came from nowhere, and it was honestly pretty obvious that she was going to at least have one litter from Stemleaf. I'm glad, and she'll always have a part of Stemleaf with her.

Congrats on getting the book early! So, while I'm reading, poor Shadowsight, RootxBristle is cute (I just wish it'd been better developed on Bristlefrost's part if her feelings are genuine), Leaf seems nice, and I'm glad Spotfur is having Stemleaf's kits. Seriously, if anyone deserves to have kits, it's him. It's just a shame he died too soon.
Also, this now means that Blossomfall will become a grandmother. I know cats age quickly, but wow, that's gonna take some time to process. I'm still not used to thinking about Lionblaze and Cinderheart being grandparents.

Ooooh I don’t know how to feel about Spotfur’s predictable pregnancy. Part of me likes it, part of me doesnt. I’m mixed.

Spotfur is already expecting kits? Great StarClan, more ThunderClan kits... just.... i don't like the idea. It's already so big to the point of overpopulation. And we get more Firekin.
I love Shadowsight and Rootspring, they have a lot of depth in their character and have a lot of potential.
