"Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life."
Does anyone else have an issue with this rule? Sure, it's not even remotely as bad and relevant is the "leader's word is law" rule or talked about like the first rule but I was wondering what everyone thought about it.
While there's nothing wrong with the first part of it I really dislike the "Give StarClan thanks for its life"-part. How does that even make any sense? Sure, StarClan can send clouds to cover the moon at Gatherings and leaders receive their nine lives from them but since when does StarClan give life to mice, rabbits and other stuff?
If I remember the story behind the fourth code correctly it came to be because some kits were playing with a piece of prey and then an owl came and instead of taking one of the kits it took the mouse and flew away with it. And the clan's medicine cat interpreted that as a sign from StarClan, something like "StarClan gives prey and they can take it away too." But why? Does StarClan even have the power to sick an owl on a clan? To me it looks like this is one of the instances where the clans give StarClan way too much credit.

It's like thanking the ancestors or something for giving the cats the prey to begin with. Like thanking god for giving you a hearty feast (If you even do that that is, but generally speaking).
Idk if Starclan in these books actually can give prey outside the few instances we've seen. But the cats are just super dependent on them is all. Whether or not prey is "taken away" is all just dependent on seasons making them scarce and nothing more. The story around the code was just them interpreting it as Starclan like they always do, not that Starclan actually sent a fricking owl to grab the mouse.
