Maplestar pulled the rabbit out from the bush, trying not to let the branches catch on its fur, then turned and carried it towards camp. I'll have to come back out and keep tracking the scents of the other loners. It seems we've had as many as four loners on our territory today. That's concerning. he thought, but he also dreaded the idea of searching the entire territory on his own. He didn't want to worry his Clanmates and besides he needed as many cats back at camp as possible.

Swiftkill bristled, both at all the strange cats staring at her and at the jab from Hollow Moon. “I am more then well fed. I need no one to catch my meals.” With that she found a corner she could wedge herself in, positioned defensively to the cats in the cave.
Rumbling Thunder gave a merrow of laughter at Broken Mist’s disgusted face. “Shall we find a mountain spring for you to wash in my friend?” Before Broken Mist could reply Rumbling Thunder noticed Swiftkill and tutted.
“No, no, no!” The stocky tom meowed as he padded over and began wedging himself between her and the wall, shoving her out into the open. Swiftkill remained seated, bristling and hissing, as she was pushed out of her corner. “Eat. Then bathe, then we will welcome you!”
Sky Wise watched on in amusement, he lay in complete comfort, rolled onto his side and propped up on an elbow while enjoying a shrew. “Yes we shall all rid ourselves of this mud once our bellies are full!” He then gestured for Broken Mist to take some prey and join him.
(Okay so two things. First I imagine that Sky Wise as leader doesn’t need to call his fellows by their titles as he’s leader and it’s kind of like saying ‘sir’ but also I don’t think mates would call each other by their titles either so in Wanderer culture to address some one without a title means you’re mates or want to be mates. {this also could be a grave insult} Secondly I’m probably going to make up stuff to flesh out their culture like a welcoming chant for when hunters come back and are successful and that’s what Rumbling Thunder means when he says a ‘proper welcome’ but Morior if you want to make it something more culturally appropriate let me know and I’ll change what I’ve written)

no those sound like good ideas, I already figured that Sky Wise wouldn't need to call other cats by their titles I just forgot to bring it up)

"You ate fresh-kill that was caught by your other Clanmates did you not? You're going to spend quite a while with us I think so if you refuse to eat anything we give you, you could starve to death before you see your Clan again... and that tom that Moon-Hunter brought up, Maplestar? He is the leader?" Hollow Moon stayed close to Swiftkill and took a bit from the vole herself. "I can't wait to get this mud off as well."
Maplestar entered camp and set the rabbit down on the fresh-kill pile. He glanced around camp to make sure everything was in order, then turned to leave again.

"We will meet Maplestar soon I imagine." Hollow Moon said. "We'll give him a chance to lead his whole Clan in joining us, or if not we may have to kill him. I'm not entirely sure on Sky Wise's plans yet, but it wouldn't be a good idea to leave an old leader alive for the SteppeClan cats to rally around if we take over. We may have to kill him no matter how this turns out." she said casually. At the words from Moon-Hunter she picked up the vole and padded away from Swiftkill, sitting down again near Sky Wise and Rumbling Thunder.

(alright)
Maplestar started back at where the muddy cat scents were. Through the mud it was hard to pick out how many loners there might be, three, or four? He followed it to SteppeClan's border and felt some satisfaction that whoever they were, they were no longer on the territory. They must've covered themselves in mud to hide their scents, so they were here for a reason. that ruined his short relieved feeling and he shivered. He raced over to a few of the best hunting spots, trying to look for Swiftkill's scent. She's normally not gone this long from camp, he thought. By the time the sun was setting he felt he'd run over the whole territory, growing more exhausted but more worried with every territory landmark he passed that showed no sign of her.

(oh I was just gonna pretend they made it back that evening)
Maplestar crested the rise of the camp entrance exhaustedly when he heard the pawsteps of cats heading towards the camp as well. He caught the scents of Frostwhisper and Rosepath on the wind before he saw them in the long grasses, hesitating. "Welcome back." he said.

(Yeah, I’ll have Zina travel in that general direction and then meet up with them soon enough. Also, I don’t know why, but I really like the Wanderers tone. I will definitively make some cats there soon.)
Zina sighed. She hadn’t found anything else good enough to fill her belly yet. Only a scrawny shrew. She sniffed the air once more, finding the taste of mud. Curious, she follow the scent a bit, but stopped short as she noticed it led up into the mountains. She had never been up there, and so it somewhat scared her. Just then, she scent of mouse washed over her and she looked over to see a couple mice rooting around in a pile of dead grass about a fox-length away. She quickly, but quietly crouched. Setting her paws down as carefully as she could, Zina slowly made her way over. When she was within jumping distance, she chose the closest mouse and leaped, pinning the creature below her paws. She bent down and nipped it’s neck before picking it up and walking a little bit away. She settled down to eat, vowing to not let another cat steal her meal.

Broke most laughed. “I think that would be a good idea.” He mewed, taking a snap bite of his food. “Who all wants to go?” He offered looking around. He didn’t mind getting wet, that would dry, but getting dirty was something totally different.

Maplestar glanced through the camp entrance. "I guess here is quiet enough to talk," he said and sat down. "Sunstone followed three of the apprentices who went out hunting on their own, and he caught scents of loners on our territory. I found one and chased her off, she had killed a rabbit but I took it to the fresh-kill pile. There were more scents of loners though, not just hers, and from what I can tell they came to our territory with a purpose and left shortly after. I've been all around the territory today following loner scents and have seen no sign of Swiftkill since this morning either." He sighed after explaining. "I see you came back without Dartfoot, did something happen?" he asked with concern.

Broken Mist stood, stretching his legs before heading off with the group. Shaking his fur, little clumps of dried mud sprayed onto the surrounding cats and he couldn’t help but laugh. “The suns out today, so maybe a patch on sunshine and a nap afterwards would do us soon good.” He mewed, heading out to the spring.

"How do you know that they came to SteppeClan intentionally?" Frostwhisper asked. "They tried to cover their scents in mud, I think they were trying to spy on our territory." Maplestar replied, looking back to Rosepath. "He is staying with their medicine cat? Should I send more cats tomorrow to check up on him?" He crouched down a little, too worried about the loners and Swiftkill to think of meeting Stagstar now.
Hollow Moon finished the vole and stretched before following the three toms silently, giving a glance over her shoulder to Swiftkill. The SteppeClan she-cat still intriuged her, she never though a SteppeClan cat could be so interesting or have so many secrets.

(Their dynamic? lol Hollow Moon's just being a jerk to Swiftkill hahaha)
"So we should trust in MistClan for now, and only send cats to see Dartfoot when things calm down here?" Maplestar asked Rosepath to clarify. "Do you think Swiftkill might have left with the loners?" Frostwhisper pondered out loud, and Maplestar froze. "I-I don't know." he glanced down. He guess he might've been the last cat in SteppeClan that Swiftkill had spoken to after their brief conversation that morning. Did I frighten her away? Was me confronting her the last straw that made her want to leave? he thought

"I will go with that group in two weeks to talk to Stagstar. I hope he won't take it as a slight that I didn't come to see him sooner." Maplestar shifted his paws anxiously. "We'll wait until morning, then decide what might be done for Swiftkill if she hasn't returned yet." he didn't like the idea but he was too hungry and exhausted to keep searching. He got up and headed back into camp, Frostwhisper following close beside him.
(Maplestar not getting any sleep tonight)
