When the crypt doors creak
And the tombstones quake
Spooks come out for a singing wake
Happy haunts materialize
And begin to vocalize
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize

Happy haunts materialize
And begin to vocalize
Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize
Screams and shouts echoed from a long abandoned mansion. The air was think and the sky dark around the place. Even with the large cemetery in the background, the twolegs still visited. The place screamed eerie and yet still, they came. That might be the reason why some many seemed drawn to this forest beyond the graveyard. The trees were dark and towering, blocking out any sunlight - if there ever was any. A fog seemed to be permanently rolling through the forest, unable to leave, stuck in the forest. Light was infrequent, if there at all. While the forest seemed quiet, there was the occasional cry in the air from some...unknown creature. And as alone as you think you might be, you never truly are.
Now don't close your eyes
And don't try to hide
Or a silly spook may sit by your side
Shrouded in a daft disguise
They pretend to terrorize

Deep within that forest, a cat moved slowly through the limited undergrowth. Her yellow eyes seemed to glow in the shrouded darkness. She moved silently towards her destination, a tree with an interesting shade. The tree was gnarled and much shorter than the rest of the trees. There were no leaves coming from the branches, and the roots stuck up from the soil in odd places and twists. There were no trees close to it, as if afraid to approach. But the black cat had no issues creeping up the grizzly roots. Carefully nestled in the side of the tree was an interesting shape. A naturally formed cauldron, if you will. The trunk gave way at a side to show the basin nearly filled with a dark mixture. There was no movement coming from it's depths, but something about it seemed alive. The cat went to looking into the cauldron before suddenly jerking her head around behind her, hearing something in the stillness. She waited several moments before turning back to the water. Her glowing eyes read something that no one else could seemingly see. As she watched, a single leaf from the canopy above landed in the water. Soft ripples caused just a bit of disturbance in the darkness. For a moment, the bits of light reflecting from the surface could be seen all the way to the bottom, showing leaves, stones, sticks....and bones. The cat peering in leaned back with a vicious hiss, sensing something alarming. Giving a massive leap, the black cat landed several feet away, near the other trees that surrounded the gnarled tree. Casting a glance behind her, the she-cat quickly disappeared into the darkness. Away from the creatures that haunted her.

Start to shriek and harmonize

Eyes wide with fright, a cat walked slowly through the forest. His green eyes darted in every direction as he moved towards an unknown destination. He had no idea how he had gotten into this place. He was just a traveler, a nomad. He had no purpose or reason to be in this place. Yet still, try as he might to leave, there seemed to be no way out. Fear gripped at his stomach as the trees seemed to close in on him, as the darkness crept in, as the silent suddenly seemed far too loud. Heartbeat racing, the tom's breathing became labored and more panicked. The fear became all too powerful and suddenly, the tom is racing through the forest, attracting far too much attention. Dark creatures, pleased by his fear, began to race after him. They teased his shadow, tripped is paws, and encouraged his fur to bristle. The tom, blinded by fear, had no idea where he was going or what he was doing. A large root was suddenly in his path. He tumbled right over it, yowling in shock, pain, and fear. Scrambling up as best he could, the tom turned behind him, watching with fear as something - somethings - moved towards him. He could do nothing but close his eyes and brace for impact. Yet, nothing happened. Peaking through his eyes, the tom spotted a skeleton - holy crow a skeleton cat! - disappearing through the undergrowth, chasing the shadows away. Blood still pounding in his ears, the tom looked around and waited, waited for the skeleton to return for him. But nothing happened.

A cat sat on the edge of the forest, watching the spooks and specters of twolegs prance around the graveyard. They were joyously creepy and spooky, having fun in their never-ending afterlife. He smiled at them, enjoying their pleasure as he turned back into the forest. The cat was a creature of the unknown. Not a ghost yet not living either. It was hard to tell exactly what he was. Still, he had no issues moving through the glade. The darkness seemingly normal to him. He kept moving, even as other beings began to show around him.
Ghosts, specters, whatever you called them, were first to be seen. They came in all different kinds, faded to bright to whispy to solid. A kitten bounded past the creature cat, unaware he was even there. The kitten was as bright as snow in sunlight. Every time it opened its mouth to meow in delight, it left out a deafening noises that would make most turn tail and run, yet no one seemed bothered. Yet another cat was so see-through, it was near impossible to see. Her eyes were nothing but darkness and her mouth was opened in a silent, terrified scream. Still, she and the others kept walking. To where, they weren't quite sure. Yet every year, they were drawn to the center of the forest with the other lost souls of the forest.
The skeleton cat from earlier wandered into the sheltered glen, bones shimmering with age and cracks. The terrified tom not too far away from her. He was still fearful but seemed more at ease near one of the most...unique creatures. The black cat from the cauldron - fur still bristling - padded in, watching all with weary eyes. She would not lower her guard tonight. More cats of all shapes wandered in: one with clawed, bat-like wings; one with rotten flesh and fur, making even the ghosts retch around it; another made of what looked like tv stactic; and the strangest of all a normal looking cat.
The host of the worlds eeriest convention smiled and smiled far too off-putting for a cat. He was pleased. Maybe this Hallow's Eve, they would be enough. Chuckling rang throughout the minds of every cat in the glen. Looking around, startled, none could identify where the host was or where it was coming from or even if the laughter was real. The chuckling lasted on for a moment more before ending abruptly and stating, with almost a sense for finality, "Welcome to the Haunted Forest."
