Today just takes the cake. I think my lizard is pretty much dying, and I'm just about ready to give up. Not in a suicidal way, but to no longer give a shit about anything or anyone. It was a very peaceful morning until my brother came home, pissing himself, and my mom being frustrated and being nit-picky over everything. I'm so tired of this. The only good thing I'm hearing lately is an announcement of my job opening soon. At least I'll have something to focus on when a few weeks go by.
I know I shouldn't be feeling like this but I genuinely cannot bring myself to care about anything or anyone. I'm ready to give up on myself and stop trying.

That's rough. Having something to focus on in the meantime is probably for the best. I've been there and sometimes all you can do is just keep going through your days until things get better. Take some time for you and it'l be alright. Might not mean much but I'll be here to talk if you want to ever shoot me a pm or something.

I know we had our differences, but I'm sorry to hear this. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of lizard? I have some knowledge on beardies and Leo's, and might be able to help

don't want to come off the wrong way or anything, but we do have a vent thread if you want to use it. (In fact please use it I feel like I'm the only one who uses it anymore, rip)

I know we had our differences, but I'm sorry to hear this. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of lizard? I have some knowledge on beardies and Leo's, and might be able to help He's a leopard gecko. I know most of the basics but I can't figure out this one. This is a little gruesome, so this is tmi. When he poops it's bleeding and he acts like he's in a lot of pain. He lost weight and now he's skin and bones. I think he may have crypto but I'm unsure. This began to happen a couple of weeks ago when I noticed the slow activity. I took him to the vet and she told me he may not be impacted but may have an infection. I'm guessing worms. This week he did poop three times but it's all very small and sometimes runny. He didn't bleed yesterday though which is a good thing. He's also been puking out his food as well when I try to give him a mealworm. I am going to the store today to try to feed him a waxworm that might be easier on his stomach. The vet needs a poo sample so I have to try to give him more food. Right now he's on grub pie and his stomach isn't bringing that up so I wonder if it's helping him gain a little bit of weight. I'm just worried he's going to die from this. I am giving him luke warm baths as well to keep him hydrated. No he is not on sand. I've had him on paper towels and I took out his poo at least every other day. I think he may have eaten some infected bug and might possibly have roundworms but I'm not sure.. he's still strong enough to fight against me when I give him antibiotics though so he's still got some will left in him.
He does have a little bowl of calcium in his tank though. I dust his worms but sometimes the dust doesn't always stay on even with water. I have always seen him lick the calcium. So I just assumed he knew what his body needed whenever he wanted. It is right next to his hide. He has a moist hide, calcium, a cool hide, and a heat mat. Temperature's between 88°-90°.
That's why I'm wondering if he had some kind of bad bug or something. The bleeding seemed to have stopped and he's becoming more alert again and the vet also told me there's a chance for him to recover from this.

I don't remember our own differences we've had in the past but I want to apologize for anything I may have said or done. I'm glad there's still some mature people out there willing to set aside their differences to help each other out. Thank you for this

I've kept leopard geckos for 15 years. My last one had a good life, died from old age at 20 years old. I can't figure out what happened to my current leo..

Him vomiting and having bloody stool is concerning though. The weight loss is also something that is very hmmm. How old is he? Do you think he possibly could have injested something he shouldn't have? I know sometimes paper towel substrate can be iffy, as they can injest it at times. Also does he have any kind of prolapse near his cloaca?
It sounds like something more than a bug, as reptiles don't typically get stomach bugs like we do. He either has some sort of parasite issue going on, or an infection of sorts. Although I'm going to say parasites, seeing as he's lost weight and been lethargic. I also am part of a really great group on FB that can also offer more advice if you'd like the name!

My bearded dragon is a special needs lizard, so I'm constantly on edge with her rip. It's very scary when our buddies get sick

i'm so sorry about your gecko. please remember that sometimes no matter how well you care for a pet, they won't live as long or as healthy as others (either bc of genetics or bad luck things), so i hope you don't hold that against you

I bought him from a pet store and I know they aren't good quality animals. But no one wanted him and he was the biggest one.. I knew he'd have a shitty life if I just left him there because the petsmart staff already told me he was attacking the other geckos. Well no shit lady.... he was six months old at the time with other geckos.. they are very protective over their territory... he's going to try to take over the little territory they have. And they still kept him in there. Idiots.

Started to gain weight, only to lose it all. They told me there is a chance of recovery from this though and it didn't sound like a bad issue but I'm still concerned. Maybe this is possibly a roundworm/tapeworm issue?

It's very scary when our buddies get sick The last time I went to the vet he lost a lot of weight from stress due to an eye infection. I worked hard on getting his tail bigger after his recovery and he was doing very well, becoming active again, but only a couple of weeks ago he started to slow down and it's hard to get antibiotics in him and some food. He's still passing something through his tummy though, if he had parasites this wouldn't be happening right? He made #2 yesterday, it was small, but then again the food I gave him wasn't a lot I didn't want him to start bringing up anything if I gave him too much so I am giving him a little bit if food every day to keep him alive. Maybe it's just a bacteria issue? I am giving him grub pie and that passed through him yesterday.

Some good news!! Dexter (my leopard gecko) looked active today, and he drank water from the bowl; I didn't have to do it myself! He finally made a poo, and I'm taking it to the vet tomorrow. It didn't bleed, either! I think the bleeding stopped! He also looked like he wanted to hunt but he's not interested in superworms; maybe he needs something else? Either way, he's doing a lot better today! I'm thrilled!

The vet confirmed that he has no parasites and assumed this is all from stress. Dexter's doing a lot better and I'm already seeing him gaining a bit of weight. No need for another trip. So good news!
