I've been working a bit on this worldbuild lately and after remembering that I had a few more shorts in this world (and just wanting to do some dabbling on the side of the main projects) decided making ShadowRiver its own hub. Nothing fancy as always, more a ramble and grouping of thoughts. I'll try and keep the front page updated with links, timeline, and important characters, but as per usual, most the soft worldbuilding will probably be lazily updated in the comments. So enough intro, lets get down to business.
Current stories that take place in "ShadowRiver world":
-Red String of Fate (Fate)
-Star Rose (Rose)
-Checkmate
-Darkest at Midnight (DAN)
HISTORY
The Clans at the lake were again forced to move away from their home. But unlike their first journey from the forest to the lake territories where scouts were able to find a new place before disaster struck, this time the Clans weren't given that luxury. Instead, they were shoved out of the territory within three nights and trekked past WindClan's hills into the beyond. It was a grueling time, but after one long year including the worst winter storms the Clans had ever seen, the survivors finally found a place to live: the New Forest.
But the cats that survived the journey were only a fraction of the strength each of the Clans had at the lake. All four leaders perished saving their clanmates during the dangerous travels, and without a way to contact starclan, no new leaders were chosen. Instead, the remaining cats split into two groups based around two cats who stepped up as leaders during the journey: Brackenwhisker and Leopardclaw.
Leopardclaw's followers, mainly cats from the old ShadowClan and RiverClan, were often the most levelheaded of the group. As opposed to Brackenwhisker's recklessness, many of these cats preferred Leopardclaw's steadiness, patience and devotion to the underdogs --the injured, the elderly, the weak. These cats elected Leopardclaw as their leader, who, reaching towards her father's old Clan, named them all ShadowClan warriors at heart and formed the new ShadowClan to the west in the marshy lowlands. Their territory is filled with tall trees, dark ivy, and plenty of streams winding through.
Cats that followed Brackenwhisker, mainly cats that traced their family and roots to ThunderClan and WindClan, were often the brave or hotheaded ones. Brackenwhisker often advocated for the riskier path that promised better rewards and he was often the first to jump into danger to save another, gaining him a lot of power and trust. These cats settled in the high hills and forests to the east, calling themselves FireClan after the brave Firestar of tales of old.
It wasn't long until arguments in both Clans broke out, along with border scuffles with loners and rogues that had called the forest home for generations and despised their new neighbors bullying them around. A large conflict came to a head --luckily, more words than claws, since the Clans were still recovering from their travels and still were leaderless; they hadn't yet found a place to commune with StarClan, and while Leopardstar and Brackenstar had taken their names, they hadn't StarClan's nine lives to follow. A young she-cat named Blossom rounded up all those that sympathized with the loners and founded BlossomClan: a place for wanderers and those who just wanted space to live in peace.1 BlossomClan lived to the southern border of the other two Clans, in the very hilly and less heavily forested part of the forest.
The other two Clans refused to acknowledge this collection of loners and scattering of Clan deserters as a true Clan. BlossomClan's borders were often trespassed upon in these first few seasons, but they weren't afraid to show their claws and protect the land they claimed. It wasn't until Blossomstar found the starcave and received her nine lives that the other two were forced to respect BlossomClan's claim as a legitimate Clan.
After that, the Clans have been rebuilding back to their former glory, and have lived in relative peace with each other and the surrounding loners.

Major Players
Outside of the story characters, who can be described on their respective pages.
Leopardclaw -4y-6y - First leader of New Forest ShadowClan. Brown mackerel tabby she-cat with white patches and yellow eyes, formerly ShadowClan's medicine cat. Levelheaded, thinks of the needs of the weak and stands up for them. Often advocated peace or caution during the journey.
Brackenwhisker -2y-7y - First leader of FireClan. Ginger tabby tom with amber eyes, formerly WindClan. He was a very young warrior during the journey but amazingly charismatic. Bold, rash, and apt to get himself into trouble, this tom was very good at sniffing out opportunity. Opposed BlossomClan vehemently and was the last to get his name. Eventually somewhat mellowed out, but was still known to seek out problems and get too deep into other's business (much like his Clan's namesake).
Blossomstar -4y-10y - Founder of BlossomClan. Mostly white she-cat with bright ginger tabby splotches and green eyes. She was a loner living in the gorge that FireClan claimed as their camp. Well known in the area, she rallied other displaced cats and sympathetic kittypets to protest against the Clans. She was known for being empathetic and a good mediator. Dreams of cats in the stars lead her to the starcave, where she was the first to be blessed by StarClan in the New Forest.
Blizzard ??-27y - Svan. Massive white tomcat with violet eyes. His color is deep purple. Unknown age, formerly Svan. Helped around MapleClan, eventually responds to the Guardian problem in the New Forest and almost singlehandedly wages war on the most powerful trio of Guardians by invoking Thromin (at the time, Vella, Wuul and Mooneater; Thromin handles Tigris itself). A very practical cat, confident, but doesn't quite know how to act around others. Keeps mostly to himself or a small circle. Brother to Opal.
Opal ??-current? - Svan. White she-cat with yellow eyes (usually pink in siva). Her color is pale yellow or white. Blizzard's sister. She helps wipe the memories of pure cats in the New Forest. Aloof, self-absorbed. She rarely helps without obvious benefit to herself, but is surprisingly powerful on earth and has a deep connection with magic there. Ends up taking Icethorn to Siva when she's finished helping Blizzard.
Blackdapple/star 23y-30y - Former leader of BlossomClan. Blackdapple is a grey tom with dark grey mackerel tabby markings and a black ringed tail; orange eyes. A bit headstrong, he was young when he was put into the role as leader. He constantly got into scuffles with the city cats to their southern border, leading to more than a little resentment between the two groups. He died mysteriously, stripped of three lives at once when he was found broken at the bottom of a ravine. It was a great source of contention within the Clan, some of whom believed it to be murder. Others blamed Blackstar's drive for thrills, from which he was apt to do stupidly dangerous acts before. Still others claimed it as suicide. The cause of death was never fully explained, leaving a dark grudge with Copperstar's rise to leadership.
Copperwing/star 27y-present - Leader of BlossomClan. Copperwing is a solid ginger tom with amber eyes. Formerly an outsider rescued as a kit, Copperwing always struggled in BlossomClan during Blackstar's leadership, where they were almost constantly at odds with the loners and kittypets of the nearby city. Not knowing his own heritage and being raised on stories of BlossomClan's ragtag origins, he was one of the most vocal outcries against the fighting, advocating instead for peace. He wasn't very well liked in the Clan until Blackstar's death. By this time, the rest of the Clan were becoming fed up with the constant skirmishes and all but the most bloodthirsty wanted the senseless fighting to end. The Clan made it clear that Jayfrost --Blackstar's mate, deputy and a firm supporter of violence-- would not be supported if she took the role of leader. Instead, the Clan nominated Copperwing to step up and take the spot. It took two moons for Copperwing and the rest of the Clan to oust Jayfrost and her few vocal supporters before he finally took the spot as leader. There was some grumbling from cats on the fence and those that valued tradition (Jayfrost was Blackstar's deputy after all) and a few even accused Copperwing of the murder. Others still didn't trust him, an outsider with no familial connections to BlossomClan. But Copperstar is very clearly a good cat: he listens to other's concerns and addresses them fairly, he always looks to help and is vocal about injustice, he is firm in his choices, but willing to change his viewpoint when he has erred.
GUARDIANS/GODS OF SIVA
--- Guardians are Gods in Siva who have used the closeness of the two worlds (due to the Star Rose shattering) in order to cross over to Earth. The only ones who have bothered to do this are Gods forgotten in Siva, lesser Gods that don't hold much power there anymore (especially after the Star Rose shatters and plunges most of Siva into darkness and chaos, killing most of the population that would traditionally honor and follow the smaller deities). On Earth, the Guardians wreak havoc, creating half-god or demi-gods out of normal cats. We call this state "godtouched" or "Chosen" and godtouched cats often have great power in the sphere of their patron. They are still mortal, even if they are stronger (and have... odd traits).---
Thromin is pretty neat. He's a Greater Guardian (the only one we actually see... so far, I think) and is the aspect of unleashed energy, namely fire and lightning. He can take many forms, including large and small creatures made of lightning or fire (he particularly enjoys being a lightning bird). His icon is the Svanni Renj, a creature that stands like a gorilla with powerful arms and a wide, orange mask. He very rarely takes a cat form and when he does, it is highly variable. He has shown as a small white kit, but also as large dark tabbies and even feathery lilac points. He usually has yellow eyes. As a Greater Guardian, Thromin doesn't take Chosen followers. He is highly mercurial, and much like fire itself, is tame so long as you are careful and respectful, but can turn dangerous the moment one forgets to keep him in mind. He is the most likely to interfere with the Lesser Guardians, if only because he is restless and always looking for a chance to set his flames loose.
Vella is our first main baddie that comes across from Siva. She is female, and presents as either a small, black and white patched fox with a silver tail and violet eyes, or a mostly-dark calico she-cat. She is the Guardian of strategy and exploitation. Many Chosen by her become consumed with ambition and with an insatiable urge to dominate others and be in charge (be it physical prowess, intellect, influence ect. whatever is most important to them grows).
Wuul is Vella's right hand man. He is male, and is aspect of the bear. He avoids this form, but it is easy to see the evidence of his rage and wrath when he decides to use it. He mostly stays in cat form, where he is a scruffy, long-furred black tomcat with blind clouded eyes. Wuul is Guardian to patience and strength. He isn't the most intelligent and is used by Vella (or Mooneater). He is a Guardian of dichotomy, equally prone to great patience and willpower as he is to a short-temper and hot rage. Many of his Chosen also exhibit these traits. Godtouched of Wuul are often followers, not leaders, and are steadfastly loyal so long as one keeps their interests in mind.
Mooneater ends up following Wuul and Vella when Thromin takes over, running deeper into Earth instead of being locked back in Siva with the other Lesser Guardians. She mostly presents female, her aspect is the fish. On land, she is an elegant silver tabby she-cat with blue eyes of varying shades. She is Guardian of hope and determination. She is the most charismatic of the Guardians, quickly establishing trust and ultimately devotion. Those that are Chosen revere her as a God and she has a cult of followers. Godtouched of Mooneater begin their cycle in utter bliss; Mooneater gives them all the hope of a better time and better life. Eventually this hope absolutely consumes them, leaving them "happy", but without the drive to do anything for themselves. Without prompting, these cats will sit with blank stares and starve themselves to death.
Tigris is a Lesser Guardian, but he is probably one of the most powerful that crossed over from Siva. His aspect is, as his namesake suggests, the tiger, and his cat form is a bright ginger tabby with yellow eyes. He is the Guardian of fate and doom. With some powers of foresight, Tigris always manages to be one step ahead of the competition. Most of his Godtouched do not share foresight, though there are notable exceptions (many cats with Svan blood or close connections to StarClan, namely). Chosen of Tigris are emotionally powerful, operating much like Chosen of Vella; where the Fox exploits weakness of character, the Tiger plays with one's fears. Godtouched of Tigris also boast superior vision in general, particularly night vision.

Blossom and the loners' protests to the Clans taking over their homes started out peaceful, but soon came to blows as the loners didn't respect the new borders imposed upon them and took whatever prey they wished. Dawnleap, ShadowClan's deputy, took Blossom's side and forced the other two leaders to consider negotiating. When the leaders refused, she was the first to defect and took Blossom's group south to the ravines, a thin strip of land that neither Clan laid claim to. She taught them the warrior code, outlined their own borders, gave them a camp and taught them to hunt and fight the warrior way. Over time, a few other Clan cats joined her, either wishing to help the loners or wishing to leave their own Clan from other conflicts. Included in this number was Lionpaw, FireClan's medicine cat apprentice.
Most of the loners were already in a Clan-like group setup, so transitioning into a Clan proper was only enforcing the code and the stricter borders a Clan should uphold. In the early stages, most treated it like a joke or just a way to mock the other Clan cats. The logical reason was a fight that allowed the loners to strike back in a way that followed the honor of the Clan and warrior code. It wasn't until one of their kits, Ren, began dreaming of StarClan and when Blossom journeyed to the starcave and gained her lives that it was clear that the life of a Clan cat wasn't just a series of rules and borders, but a real way of life. BlossomClan continued to offer safety and solace for any cat in need throughout her leadership, a trend that continued long after her death. Outsiders were always welcomed to visit and perhaps find a calling as a Clan member. After all, BlossomClan was a Clan of loners and kittypets before growing into the esteemed Clan it is today.

Minor Guardians
Ghor is one of the weaker Lesser Guardians. His aspect is the frog. He stays mostly in cat form, as a brown tom with grey eyes. He is the guardian of chance. For a Guardian, Ghor has very little desire to take over anything. He's a prankster in the darkness, but in the center of attention he is downright bashful. There are very few Chosen of Ghor, but those few can boast either amazingly good or amazingly bad luck (or both, at the same time). Ghor wants the best for his Chosen, and is always disappointed when his gift ends up a curse.
