Ooooh, I love all this new Heavenly lore, and the songs (I also think the songs that reminded you of my characters fit really nicely, especially Torsten's)! I'm adding both now. You've also reminded that I really need to finish my worldbuilding stuff and add it.

Sounds good and thanks! I had a lot of fun working on the lore! Though I just realized I didn't complete those last three holidays. Might continue that tomorrow. Also, yay for that accurate song assumptions. Or at least some accurate assumptions.

Well, it was fun to read about even if the holidays weren't finished (: I've been trying to work on the languages again, but my mind is being finicky about that particular thing right now, so it might be a while before I have anything up for that.
Anyways, I really love what I've listened to so far. I only listened to the songs that were set or suggested for a character, but I'll probably have more thoughts to share once I listen to the rest. I'm also really happy when other people share music, because I have a tendency to listen to the same ones on repeat, so it's nice to see something new. All the character playlists seem to have a really distinct feel, which I think is really cool. Avani's is so much lighter than the others (overall), aw. And Crispen's made me want to hug him.

Ok, pure honesty time: I am getting way too anxious to even read anything anyone wrote. It's not anyone's fault, it's my brain being evil. Unfortunately my brain is a bit too good at being evil and is stopping me from reading anyone's posts (the one from mid february or the one(s) above on page six on this page or the recent RP posts after my last one that I flubbed) (I say "one(s)" because I cannot bring myself to check how many there are on this page) (to word that more accurately, my brain keeps stopping me) (the bugger). It's very impressive how well my brain is keeping me from doing it, seeing as how it's been months, but whatever.
It really doesn't matter. Either way, mages have technology. Yay. Either way, I am happy coming up with my own little conlangs for human cultures that will never make an appearance. Yay. Either way, the prophecy can work however (I legitimately have no idea how the hell it is supposed to work anymore, but screw it I am hand-waving my way through this) and it doesn't impact the story. Yay. My brain is evil and terribly convincing. Not a yay.
I don't care anymore about whatever the hell the headcanons I had that won't apply to the RP. I mean, I do care about the conlangs and the possibilities of how different cultures would retain or change or forget stories, but I can headcanon that on my own. Right now my choice is to argue over stuff that doesn't matter or try to reduce my stress to a point where I can respond to the RP. I'm choosing the latter.
Again, this is no one's fault. It is my evil brain being evil and keeping me from doing stuff. That is no one's fault.
Basically, Star, I won't be responding to whatever you happened to write in response to my last post on this thread. I have no idea what you wrote. This is not anything against you. Again, my brain is the evil one here, and that is no one's fault but its. I will respond to the RP soon (aiming for sometime this week), but I don't know if I'll be able to post much here about anyone else's headcanons for a bit. I might get around to posting my vampire headcanons (if I bother writing them down) (it's not an anxiety issue, it's a Moss-Has-No-Time-Management issue), but we'll see. Either way... yeah. I think that's about it? idk

I have been thinking about how the vampires' economy would work for a while now, so here are a few sketches of how it might function. They are just rough ideas, so they are subject to change. If anyone has any ideas for how to flush this out, please let me know. I really have no idea how economics works besides the absolute most basic economic theory, so anything and everything is appreciated.
Okay, so vampire society is currently very, very insular and isolated. Despite this, they have limited trade with other species (and we know this because I made a bad joke about it before and I guess that makes it canon? idk). Generally when are a country in a world economy, you deal in whatever you have a competitive advantage in making. (Obviously real life is more complicated than that, but whatever). Vampires admittedly do not have a ton of competitive advantages in terms of the entire, Kingdom-wide economy. They have basically nothing to contribute to any services market (since, you know, they don't interact with anyone). Therefore they must trade in exclusively goods. There must be some goods that are exclusively found in vampire territories (like the nanmu-inspired wood I mentioned a long time ago), so these would make for good trading goods. It makes sense that vampires would be incredibly protective of these goods, ensuring that they could not spread to other territories. That way, vampires could monopolize the Kingdom-wide market and control the flow of those goods.
While I just said that vampires do not have a ton of competitive advantages, there is one major exception: time. Vampires live for basically forever, so they think long-term about everything by default (at least, in comparison to other species). This means that if you want a species that will successfully manage a good's production over a very long time, vampires are your best bet. For example, they are very big on environmental conservation and protection because they need to ensure that their food sources (i.e. wild animals) will remain stable. There is one catch in that vampires are extremely, extremely cautious about non-renewable resources. You will not find vampires mining basically anything, because they know it will take far too long to replenish those resources. As a result, most of the goods they deal with are renewably sourced but still take years (like, decades or maybe even centuries) to replenish. Think of trees that take decades to grow or something like that. Vampires trade those sorts of goods. (legit I cannot think of anything other than plants... any ideas?)
Of course, those two paragraphs were entirely about vampires' trade with other societies. Vampires provide basically every good and service within their own economy. Self-reliance is a big component of vampire society. While the individual is meant to be apart of the collective, the collective should be independent of everyone else. As a result, vampires do not like to rely on other species' goods or services for anything. They may appreciate some of the goods that they can acquire from others, but they will still refrain from getting a lot of them. The thought process behind this is that admitting any sort of preference for anything outside of vampire society will create cracks within the broader culture, therefore opening up the entire nation to outside influence and corruption. Not a great view of international trade (in fact, a very, very bad one), but it's the view they have.
Anyways. Back to vampires' internal economy. Lots of goods, lots of services. Different covens tend to specialize in different things, just since there is such an emphasis on Tradition and the like. So if you were born into a coven that does a lot of farmwork, you will probably do a lot of it for your entire life. One benefit from this is that everyone is highly specialized. Again, this goes back to the competitive advantage idea. If one coven has been specializing in creating lumber from a certain kind of tree, then they know everything there is to know about that tree species. They know its life cycle, its ideal living conditions, everything. No one else does. As a result, they are the best ones to care for, cultivate, and eventually cut down those trees. However, the obvious disadvantage is that this creates a ton of rigidity in vampire society. While the group may specialize in something, an individual will be forced to specialize in something that they are not necessarily the best at doing. If someone was not born into a coven that produces a lot of art but they are naturally artistically inclined, well, good luck to them. There is some mobility, but it is pretty limited (especially for those from lower covens, although I'll talk about that later). As a result, the economy is really losing out on a lot of individuals' talents and full potential.
Now, things get a bit complicated when talking about different class issues and the vampire economy. Traditionally, the economy is very rigid. Yet when it comes to the lowest covens, they actually experience a lot more independence. This independence is social, cultural, and economic. For example, look at the Antlers coven. They come from a rural, animal-herding community. While they are largely stuck in that role (as animal herders), they experience a lot more economic independence than, say, the Antier coven. The Antier coven has governmental and diplomatic function. That is it, there are no other options for vampires from the Antier coven. Antlers coven members, in contrast, can pursue different interests. The community as a whole mostly herds animals, but Antlers vampires can become artists, craftsmen, or really anything. Because herding is a largely unregulated, independent sort of economic activity, there are more opportunities for the vampires in the Antlers coven to pursue different economic interests. The Antier coven, in contrast, is under much more societal constraint. As a result, there is less economic freedom.
As a quick aside, vampires have a very regulated market. This is mainly for simplicity's sake (aka for my benefit, can't make this too organic lest it get too complicated), but it also fits with their highly controlled society. Going off of this, my idea is that much of modern vampire society is in direct contrast to the dictatorship era. During the dictatorship era, vampires spoke in certain ways, practiced religion in certain ways, were organized in certain ways, etc. When they successfully overturned that dictatorship, they basically said "we are doing everything the opposite way now." So while the dictatorship had a pretty competition-based free market economy, modern vampires' economy is state-controlled and highly regulated. This may also play into why they prioritize renewable resources so much. The old dictatorship prioritized competition over all else in the name of superiority, so it utilized valuable resources that, once used, could never be replenished (like precious metals and the like). Once the dictatorship was overthrown, vampires vowed to never let this happen again and adopted their intense focus on renewable resources.
Okay, I have to stop here (gotta go to sleep), but one last thing: currency. I have no idea what the vampires use for currency, but it is definitely not something like precious metals (remember, vampires are very cautious about only using renewable resources). Right now, I am thinking that vampires would use something like cacao beans, just as an homage to the Aztecs and their most common currency. Now, vampires also have a decent bartering system (mainly in the lower covens, so at the Antlers' level, not in Alex's social stratum) and they will use the common Kingdom currency for international purchases, but they use cacao beans or something similar within their own country.
EDIT: Whatever vampires use for currency, they have to have some sort of authentication for it. It's like how American dollars are specially made so that they are ultra-hard to forge. If vampires use a resource that is relatively easy to acquire as their main form of currency, then they need a strong authentication system to prevent fake currency from entering the market and screwing the value of their currency. (They don't care about the value of their currency for international monetary purposes, just they really need to prevent inflation and the like in their own country.) One thing that I haven't posted a lot is the importance of smells and scents in vampire culture. Vampires' main sense is their sense of smell, so it makes sense that they would use this sense to make judgements. What someone smells like will say a lot about where they come from, their social status, their profession, etc. Consequently, it makes sense for them to have some sort of smell-based authentication process (like how you hold a dollar up to the light to check if it's real). They could have some ultra-complicated processing method to turn regular cacao beans into their local currency. This would also probably happen deep in the capital city, a location that is distinct for being buried deep inside a cave complex. That probably has a unique smell to it (idk, earth and rocks?), so it would be easy to tell if the cacao beans came from there or another place. Vampires would probably go off the honor system for the most part, but they would still need some form of currency authentication.
