Weaselpaw remained silent, his mouth clamped as shut as a clam. He didn’t want to get in-between anything with Moonpaw and her father, and not to mention, Lightflame was his mentor as well. A part of him felt like he probably should try to defend his friend - he liked to think of her as that, he didn’t know if it was mutual - but he knew he would only make things worse if he put in his input.
His gut twisted when Lightflame mentioned Salmonstar.
Weaselpaw’s ears flattened against his head, an apology sitting upon his tongue as he shuffled his paws along the ground and dared to bring his gaze up to Lightflame. He couldn’t read anything on the ginger tomcat’s face, but he could only imagine what Lightflame was thinking. He probably detested having Weaselpaw as an apprentice. He probably wished his mate had given him a different ‘paw to train, or maybe even wait and give him a kit from one of the upcoming litters to train. Weaselpaw was sure any of Darkfrost’s unborn kits would make a much better apprentice for Lightflame than he did; she already had kits that were now well respected warriors of the Clan, and not to mention her own daughter now served as deputy under Salmonstar. Lightflame would have fared much better off with one of them as his apprentice, but here he was, stuck with some useless lump that couldn’t do anything right.
”- seriously, they should tell Salmonstar, after all…” Dashwing’s voice cut into Weaselpaw’s pity party. He shook his head to bring himself back into reality; he had missed some of the warrior’s words, but unlike Lightflame, Dashwing had a much more readable expression on his face.
The pointed tomcat seemed uneasy, an odd energy buzzing underneath his thin pelt. Dashwing had always been an energetic feline, but this seemed unusual for him. He was joyful and chipper, but now worry seemed to crease his features. That was troubling.
Despite this though, it seemed like Dashwing caught on to Weaselpaw’s confusion. The warrior offered a small smile. ”Come on, I’ll take you both to Salmonstar.” Dashwing then looked over at Lightflame. ”I’ll meet back up with you after. We should probably still patrol even if Moonpaw and Weaselpaw came back to camp,” he told the other tom before focusing his attention back on the two apprentices, motioning with his dark furred tail for them to follow as he started to pad over to Salmonstar’s den. ”Lightflame was right, we were all worried, especially him,” Dashwing started. Weaselpaw followed after him, still silent, listening to the warrior. ”But if there really was something out there you caught track of, I do believe it should be looked into. Perhaps Salmonstar will understand.”
Weaselpaw could only hope she would. It was one thing to get in trouble by a warrior and his mentor, but another thing entirely to be scolded by the leader herself.

Moonpaw
Moonpaw’s ears flattened against her head, her tail brushing across the ground of the camp. She opened her mouth, prepared to retort again, however instead, she stopped and sighed, closing her mouth. It wasn’t worth it, they were worried, the best they could do right now is talk to her mom and try to explain what happened to her. So instead, she grumbled slightly and bowed her head down low, quickly padding after Dashwing, glancing back to make sure Weaselpaw was okay. Lightflame met her gaze, and sent her a look, his shoulders tense, however after a moment, he sighed and the muscles in his shoulders relaxed. “Right, I’ll be waiting by the entrance,” he told Dashwing, waiting for just a moment as he looked at Moonpaw before finally, her father padded away. Moonpaw watched him leave and then turned back to Dashwing, staying quiet as they were led to Salmonstar’s den, mentally preparing herself for what she’d say once she got there.

Weaselpaw » It felt like it only took a split second for them to arrive at Salmonstar’s den. Weaselpaw looked up, wide-eyed, as the full realization of what was to come hit him.
He stumbled back, heart thudding against his chest so quick and so hard he was sure it would beat right out of his body. The orange and white tom did what he could to try and calm himself down, tried to tell himself that Moonpaw was right there with him and that as long as she was there, he was okay, but that didn’t help, and all he did was stand there, half crouched like a coward, as Dashwing padded forward and called out to EdgeClan’s leader.
Within seconds the large pale calico stepped out of her den. Immediately she rushed to her daughter, leaning forward to inspect the young medicine cat apprentice. ”Moonpaw! Oh, I was so worried about you. I heard you weren’t in camp this morning, and...and, where did you go? Are you alright?” She looked Moonpaw over frantically, looking as if she were expecting to find signs of injuries on the apprentice before, eventually, it seemed to click in her mind that her daughter was fine.
Silence enveloped the felines for a moment until, finally, Salmonstar broke it. ”Come on, let’s talk in my den. I’ve got a quail in there you can have.” She motioned for the apprentices to head on in as she looked over to Dashwing and gave him an appreciative nod. ”Thank you for bringing them to me. You may return to your patrol.”
”Right,” Dashwing mewed, returning the nod with one of his own. The pointed tomcat sent Moonpaw and Weaselpaw quick looks before he dashed off back toward Lightflame.
Stumbling on his own paws, Weaselpaw did his best to make it to the leader’s den on his own, but it was of no use. Luckily for him Salmonstar must have noticed his struggles, for it wasn’t long until the leader’s sturdy frame was against his, helping him forward. She leaned down and offered him a soft nudge with her nose. ”You can rest once we’re inside as well. I’m sure it’s been a long night for the both of you,” she murmured reassuringly, and for the first time since coming back to camp, Weaselpaw did feel somewhat comforted.

Moonpaw
Moonpaw padded after her mother without another word. She was definitely in trouble, however how much trouble would depend on what she was able to explain to her mother, which should hopefully go smoother than the attempts made with her father. Salmonstar had always been pretty good at listening, especially when Moonpaw had needed it most. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you,” Moonpaw promised in a quiet voice, as they neared the entrance to the den. Once inside the den, Moonpaw sat down and waited for the others to get comfortable as well. Waiting as a few moments passed, Moonpaw flicked her tail up and down and shifted slightly in her spot. “So, let me explain, we were tracking this beast that Weaselpaw saw, and we didn’t realize how late it had gotten because it took forever to figure out where it had been, but we did actually make some progress, so I think we should send a patrol back out to look for it, I’d go, I know where the tracks are,” she rambled, not quite meeting her mother’s gaze.

Salmonstar » Once they had made it into the den, Salmonstar motioned for the two apprentices to take a seat. She helped Weaselpaw find his ground, and once the young tom was sitting, the leader took her own seat, curling her tail neatly around her paws as she looked between Weaselpaw and Moonpaw. There was clear worry in her eyes, but mostly she was just glad that they had made it back to camp, and in one piece it seemed. Hearing that her daughter had been gone worried the leader to no ends, but they had been found, and now the dilute calico could rest easy knowing the two were safe.
As she waited to hear their story, she could tell that Moonpaw was on edge. Salmonstar could only imagine that Lightflame had made it seem as if the two were in deep trouble, though she was sure her mate’s firmness had only come from his own worry. Unlike the warrior, though, Salmonstar’s emotions rarely came out as harsh. She was soft, like a gentle stream, and she hoped that would be enough to calm both her daughter and Weaselpaw.
She listened intently to Moonpaw as she told the story. Ever so often she would nod to indicate that she was taking this all in, absorbing each and every word until her daughter had finished her explanation. After a moment of letting it all sink in, Salmonstar leaned forward and nudged her daughter, giving Moonpaw a lick against her forehead. ”I’ll take out a patrol myself, but I want the both of you to stay here. It sounds like it was a long night, you’ll need the rest. Could you tell me where the tracks are?” Salmonstar asked gently, looking between the two in hopes that they’d cooperate and give her the answers she wanted.

Moonpaw
Moonpaw sighed in relief upon realizing her mother didn’t think her crazy or foolish. That was something Moonpaw had always admired about her mother. Salmonstar never treated her like she was too young to understand things, too young to have an idea of what was going on. She talked to her, she listened to her, and Moonpaw wanted to be like her when she was older. “We were making our way to Clearwater Pond,” Moonpaw started with a flick of her ears. “We didn’t end up making it very far though before we found the tracks...actually, Weaselpaw found them, he’s a great tracker, he’s the one that saw the creature before too,” she added and flicked her tail towards the other apprentice, shooting Weaselpaw a look to see how he was doing. “He deserves the credit here, I was mostly just there....” dealing with a rather annoying old ghost, however that didn’t seem entirely appropriate to add. Especially when she didn’t want the others to think her crazy.

Moonpaw
A wave of relief flooded through Moonpaw as she realized her mother was taking this seriously. There was comfort in knowing that her mother believed them and was ready to figure out what was going on, which meant that at least for now, Moonpaw and Weaselpaw could rest comfortably, knowing this was out of their paws. Her shoulders began to ease and she rested her tail against the floor of the den, nodding to Salmonstar. “Thanks, I haven’t eaten yet,” Moonpaw admitted and purred pleasantly towards her mother, waiting until Salmonstar left before she gently kneaded the ground and lied down, curling her tail over her body as she reached to take a bite from the bird. “We should get some rest-“ Moonpaw said with a yawn, flicking her ears for Weaselpaw to join her. “Hopefully they’ll find out more on patrol.”

Weaselpaw » The meeting with Salmonstar had gone much better than Weaselpaw could have ever imagined, but even so, despite remaining silent through it all, the ginger and white tom was completely drained. There was nothing more that he wanted to do right now other than curl up and sleep for a long, long time. The prey that the leader had offered him and Moonpaw didn't even sound appetizing to him in the moment.
After a moment of sitting there in his own silence, Weaselpaw was brought back to reality when Moonpaw's voice hit him. He blinked, looking up at the dilute calico. "A nap sounds nice," he murmured more to himself than to Moonpaw, though his gaze remained on her a moment longer before he looked away, warmth prickling at his skin until he shook it away.
Though feeling odd staying inside the leader's den even after she had left, Weaselpaw made a few circles before laying down, situating himself into a ball of fluff atop the moss. He sighed softly. Why do I feel like this is only the beginning of something even bigger? He thought to himself, though the thought remained just that, his mind and body already too tired to engage in conversation with Moonpaw as he lay there, already drifting off toward slumber.

Shadowcaster
Shadowcaster sat patiently near the fresh kill pile, her large ears perked upwards as she waited for her leader to appear from the den. By now there had been plenty of rumors circling throughout the camp - mostly with young warriors and apprentices - on where Weaselpaw and Moonpaw had gone off to. Luckily, Possumpaw had yet to rise from the apprentice’s den, because if he had, Shadowcaster was certain her young son would’ve been completely drawn into all the stories and it would only expand through his imagination. Luckily, it wasn’t long before Salmonstar exited her den, though neither apprentice followed after her. Shadowcaster tipped her head curiously to the side and stood up, quickly padding over towards Salmonstar. “What happened?” She asked simply, not wanting to pry for too many details.
