Welcome

Welcome
Hello stranger, welcome to Pinetail's Clan. Yes, that's our name. We're the only clan in the area so there's no reason to really specify what clan we are, so we just go by the name of whoever is currently in leadership. We are a group who values loyalty and dedication to each other. Our clan members are close, like a family, and we protect each other with all we have.
Our Home
Territory
Coniferous forests are known for warm summers and long, cold winters, with trees and other wildlife well adapted to the harsher weather. Our home lies within a dense, evergreen forest with thick undergrowth and rough terrain. A river flows near one end of the territory with rocky cliffs on the opposite shore. Mountains rise across all of our borders, with our forest nestled between them. Many creatures live in the area including predators such as bears, wolves, and lynx, as well as prey such as voles, hares, and various birds. Winters get pretty bad here and there is a lot of rainfall in the summer, but our family is well adapted to our environment.Landmarks
- The river is on one edge of the territory and across it is the cliffs, where we mark one of our borders. The river is very cold, so cats don't voluntarily get in it, but fishing is sometimes attempted when prey is short.
- The stone path is a set of large stones which just out of the water, used for crossing the river. Should be used with caution, as the rocks can get quite slippery.
- The tree den is an abandoned log cabin, old and broken down. A designated temporary camp in case of emergencies.
- Whispering caves is lies within the cliffs across the river. It is a large system of caves, and legend has it they go on forever, but the clan does not venture deep inside.
- The tallest tree towers above all the others in the forest.
Camp
Our camp rests in a particularly dense thicket of branches, surrounded by thorn bushes. An entrance tunnel is dug under the bushes for an easy way in and out. The camp doesn't have very many dens - the cats just make their nests wherever they like throughout the camp alongside their clanmates. There are a few dens dug into homemade burrows in the ground. A small burrow makes the nursery, to give queens and kits some privacy, and the leader's burrow, although the leader usually sleeps in the main part of camp with the majority of the clan. Their den is used for private meetings or when they need some space. The final and largest burrow is the caretaker's den, where herbs are stored safely and sick or injured cats can rest.Traditions
Our clan is built a bit differently than traditional clans. The leader of the clan does not change their name when taking the position and does not receive nine lives. Although they are the leader and have decision-making power, they value the thoughts of the clan members and will often make large decisions as a group, holding meetings and such to hear the opinions of everyone to work towards a solution. The leader position is more of a figure that motivates the clan, keeps order, and someone they can look up to and depend on.
There is no deputy. When the leader passes away there is a day of mourning before the clan holds a meeting. Clan members nominate some cats that they believe fit to be the next leader and the caretaker consults the spirits and makes the final decision. There is no pre-requisites for someone to be nominated (it doesn't matter if they had previously mentored an apprentice) and they can be any age as long as they have their warrior name.
The medicine cat is called caretaker and they have a honored role within the clan. They gather herbs and care for sick or injured cats. It's forbidden for them to take a mate or have kits, as when they take on the role they have a ceremony promising the spirits that their life belongs to the clan. They're love belongs to each and every member of the clan. Caretakers are sometimes visited by spirits and they interpret omens and such. The leader often values the caretakers thoughts highly, as they are meant to have the clan's best interest in mind, so will usually make large decisions together.
Apprenticeship is much like any other clan, although they are called Tyros here. A kit becomes a Tyro at roughly 6 moons old and they are given a mentor. A tyro is deemed ready to become a warrior after passing an assessment by the leader and mentor and a ceremony is held to give them a warrior name. The newly appointed warrior goes to the tallest tree in the middle of the night, climbs, and yowls into the forest their new name and their dedication to the clan. The next morning they lead their first patrol.
Elders are respected members of the clan, having lived their lives working hard, so they are taken care of by everyone.
There is no StarClan for these cats. When a cat dies, their spirit lives on for as long as they are remembered. The spirit watches over the clan and can sometimes visit the living, usually the caretakers except for some very rare exceptions where they will visit another clan member. Everyone becomes a spirit upon death, there is no difference for good or bad cats. When the cats' memory dies, as in when no living cat remembers them or knows about them, the spirit is reborn to start again. This means that the spirits of important cats in history, the ones who's stories are told again and again, live on forever and watch over the clan. Spirits are like sacred beings, respected and considered powerful.
When a cat dies a ceremony is held to honor their spirit and say goodbye.
Riverclaw - a legendary warrior who was an exceptional fighter and protected the clan from predators countless times. he is given thanks for strength in times of need
Harmony - a doe's spirit. one harsh winter when prey was nowhere to be found and cats were starving, a deceased doe was found right near camp to feed the whole clan. give her thanks for the blessing of prey and their sacrifice for our clan
