Just curious I always find it interesting to hear what instruments other people play. I, personally, play piano!

yeaaah clarinet and piano gang!
i played clarinet from 7th grade to 12th grade. was in concert band and marching band.
i was always good at playing songs by ear on the piano, so i've always had a keyboard growing up. so in community college, i took a piano class. i was able to play things properly and actually learn the notes. since i already read music thanks to band, i was pretty good in piano class!
i am trying to learn ukulele/guitar since everyone in my family can at least play the ukulele (i live in hawaii. all the older people here had ukulele classes back then but i never learned as a kid so im WAY behind).
but i cant stretch my fingers to do the notes/chords on an ukulele...it's way too hard for me to comprehend lmao

ᏞᎪᎠᎽ Ꮎf fᎪᏁᎠᎾms ミ☆ - I've always struggled with playing by ear on piano, so that's really cool! And ukulele is something I'd like to learn someday, chords are just weird for me since I'm used to piano music and being able to see every note ^^' Ṣanɗypaw™ - Yay for piano! What do you think of it so far? I've been playing for around 10 years, and I've gone back and forth several times between loving piano and hating it (but now I absolutely love it ) Chicken - That's a big oof. At least you tried, that's the most important thing!

i just look at my dad's chord book and just ask...how the heck do your fingers press down all of those spaces!?

Chicken - Ah, that's understandable. Even thought I enjoy piano I would hate taking a band class. ᏞᎪᎠᎽ Ꮎf fᎪᏁᎠᎾms ミ☆ - I know right? My sister recently got a ukulele and chord book and I tried out a couple of the chords, and they are painful. Some of them are basically impossible positions for my fingers!

It's good, however I'm kind of learning nothing right now because of Covid-19. I take lessons at my teacher's house and she has two young kids, and virtual lessons haven't started yet.

Clarinet and flute here! Was in pep band, honors band AND concert band (dual enrollment), and pit orchestra in high school. Played clarinet for the first and third, Eb Clarinet for the second, and clarinet and flute for the fourth. I really want to play guitar, but my fingers are aggressively hyper-mobile, so it's near impossible. I was also in AP music theory my junior and senior year of high school, and tutored kids in non-AP music theory. When I got to university, I wanted to do a music minor but the university refused to acknowledge my AP scores until I auditioned, but auditions were closed by the time I got my AP score, so... *shrug*. I joined the pep band instead, but quit after two weeks for several reasons listed in the following rant. Most important thing that annoyed me was the "we suck and don't care" mentality the whole band had. My section leader wouldn't allow us to play above a G on the clarinet (which is an f5 on piano) because it was "out of tune". When I said "so why don't we just tune it?" she said "it's too hard". She then yelled at me anytime I played above a G, whether it was out of tune or not. Now, I played Eb clarinet in high school, I KNOW how to tune high notes. When I played the whole song an octave low to avoid going over G and the weird octave jumping, she yelled at me for not playing what was written. ???
She also never let us play during sectionals because "our mouths will get too tired if we play during sectionals".
The director and all section leaders encouraged freshman to not play the music and instead learn the dances because "the seniors know how to play the music".
After I made my opinions on the whole tuning thing known, I got the distinct impression my section leader had it out for me. She started yelling at me for random things and even for asking "stupid questions".
Last straw that made me quit was my section leader yelling at me in front of the whole band for daring to sit down during a game. Mind you, not while playing. While the ball was in the air and the band was not allowed to play, I decided to sit down because I was visibly pale and sweating and about four seconds away from vomiting. (I know this because several people asked if I was okay and needed to sit down). She grabbed my arm, pulled me up and berated me because "we don't sit down during games". If I hadn't been sick, I would have gestured around to the 20 or so people also sitting down, but my mind was focused on not throwing up on her, so I just nodded and stood up the rest of the game. After it ended, I turned in my music book and band card to the director and told him I wasn't getting along well with my section leader and I wouldn't be back. I still go back to my high school for football games-- the director allows band graduates to stand with him on the track instead of in the bleachers, so that's really fun. I miss pep a lot. I don't play anything anymore (anxiety tells me the walls in my apartment and dorm are too thin), though I do keep my clarinet and flute close.

i started violin in second grade and then viola and cello about three years ago bc i was assistant teaching elementary school kids. i also play the viola da gamba which is this super ancient string family that is a precursor to the violin family we have today that i had on grant for four years but chose not to renew when i went to college and returned the instrument. i played the bass (think cello) and treble (similar to the violin) variations
self taught piano just bc i grew up messing around with the grand in the house and eventually decided i needed to learn what i was doing

I played piano from when I was about five to when I was thirteen/fourteen. I want to get back into it someday but I’m too lazy to go out and buy piano books.
I played violin for about a year when I was eight or nine, but then quit because my ears hurt too much when I practiced lol. I tried getting back into it about two years ago but my teacher was so boring that he completely ruined the violin for me.
I also tried learning guitar when I was ten but my dad told me I had to cut my fingernails first and I was a “girly girl” who didn’t want to have short nails lol. I somewhat know the ukulele, I learned a lot of songs on it years ago but my ukulele is now really old and doesn’t stay in tune. I might buy a new one soon.
I really want to learn banjo and saxophone someday.

Piano. I played for well over a decade, and I got to a fairly advanced level, but once I started college and got a job it became difficult to stay with it. I don't play as much nowadays, but I still love the instrument.

Played piano when I was younger, then percussion from 6th grade on in school, both marching and concert band. I can play pretty much any percussion instrument because my school made percussion learn it all for concert season. In marching band I played synthesizer (basically piano) and then vibraphone. But I can play snare drum, bass drum, timpani, marimba/vibraphone/xylophone/glockenspiel (bells), chimes, crash/suspended cymbals, triangle, tambourine, and some other miscellaneous things.

Piano Flute/piccolo Recorder (I’ve played soprano, alto, and tenor recorders) I’ve played around a bit with an Irish whistle, ocarinas (both 6-hole and 12-hole), and recently got myself a 17-key kalimba which I’ve been having fun with. Also got myself a guitar but haven’t really learned much yet.

I used to play cello but I don't anymore. I'm planning on selling it soon.
It was fun when I did though. And it's still my favorite musical instrument to listen to.
