Any ideas on how they know they're part of the prophecy? I know it was suggested that they have something like birthmarks, which marks them.
Maybe a long time ago there was a similar situation and those chosen ones/prophecized group/whatever you want to call it had similar marks or something?

It'd kind of be like Legend of Zelad. Every x amount of time an old evil rises up and they must be stopped by whichever heroes are chosen.
If we go the family angle, maybe every couple hundred years there was a threat that after being sealed away would come back, again ala LoZ. However the last time that happened was 1000 years ago and the story(ies) basically just exist in legends now. Perhaps whatever the threat was is long overdue to come because it was biding its time to regain more power to stop the cycle once and for all.
A family crest or general important symbols could be cool. If we go the descendant route, maybe the oldest child has the mark? Also perhaps it could be a common thing for everyone, but the ones in the prophecy either have a specific on or they're the only ones whose oldest kid have it.

Yeah I played BotW, which was really fun. The lore behind the games are rather interesting too.
Anyway, I like that idea. So maybe previous generations have helped stop whatever was plaguing the land, but could never find the source of the cause. That could be another reason why it fails too.
I like the idea that their distant ancestors are the cause behind the curse. So maybe those original people were trying to help the land in a way, but instead it turned into a curse, so they made it to where their future generations had to try and solve the issue. It could explain why not all the prophecy members were there for example because they have an attitude of "we didn't cause this mess, so we don't have to fix it".
Agreed. Maybe the base marking could be the same for the family, but the chosen ones have a different one. For example, the family crest or whatever is a shield, but the chosen one would have triangle shapes around it or something. Also maybe it's the same/similar for all the chosen ones. One generation could have the shield with the triangles while the next could have the shield with the triangles and a heart for example. There's a couple of things we can do with it.

Oh, I love all of the ideas you guys are throwing out~!
Definitely into the descendants thing- and I don't think we have to worry about a set number of characters if we're just bringing our own over? If we're unsure of who's likely to rejoin, we can say that the number varies depending on the generation and some might be late bloomers? Like maybe they still have to come into their power?
And that is a bit of a conundrum-! Maybe we could do The Who,e magical humanoid thing, but we could also substitute with typical fantasy races? Like elves, halflings, shifters, etc?

Sorry about that. I went on a walk earlier, then helped with dinner before finishing my final assignments and doing dishes.
Yeah exactly. Maybe if there is a group opposing the efforts of the prophecy, perhaps they're part of the reason why no one remembers it or think it's all a myth. Eldrich horrors could be really fun to consider as well. Perhaps they could even have something to do with the curse or why the world is potentially growing unstable. If the characters end up going to a capital city or something, maybe there's a secret sect/soecity where they've kept record of everything but had to go into hiding because they were being hunted and now there's only a handful of them left. As for other parts of a quest, maybe there's some sort of weapon, key, or whatever they have to make in order to help them reach their end goal.
I really like the mark ideas, but you have a point about it getting too complicated. So in that case, maybe it's only limited to a few people for whatever reason? Not just the descendants but maybe other people who were important? Anyway, hinting towards various powers could be cool as well. Speaking of which, maybe the characters are super powerful, but it comes at a cost. Maybe a shorter lifespan or slowly losing one physical ability like sight or perhaps has a danger of having their powers grow out of control or something?
I think still having general supernatural races would be good. So keep the angles, demons, vampires, and werewolves. Maybe instead of full on wizards it could be more towards humans who have a little bit of magic to wizards who have something greater? Or maybe they all can do magic at great leveles, but depending on the field it may limit things? Like some can only do nature magic, others can use instruments for their abilities, etc. and wizards are rare but have access to all types or something. We could also add faeries, merfolk, or whatever else to replace the other races. Of course this is assuming we want to keep the same amount of characters for the prophecy. Spider also brought up a good point about maybe having different races be involved at a time. For lore reasons, maybe some bloodlines die out and it takes a while for a new one to take the place of the old or something.
I have a couple of ideas on how we can make existing races different from what was originally done too. Another idea is maybe there's a few different base types of magic like elemental, light, dark/shadow, blood, feral, etc. that align with the races and over time have caused other difference in the races. For example, angels have gained wings or abilities that allow them to take to the skies to be closer with the sun/moon/large sources of light while the magic demons use allow them to be more suited for something like caves.

Yeah I’ll jump onto the bandwagon. I think we would be ok with keeping the species as is, but if someone wants to change then they can. They are pretty basic species that can be found anywhere. If we wanted we could build upon the species to make them more of our own. For markings/crests, I agree that it needs to be more limited to influential families. It would be interesting if each family had a different indicator e.i. the werewolf clan knew the child was for the prophecy when it had a certain color pelt or marking on the legs. It doesn’t have to be that blatant, but you get what I mean. That way the family crests could say them same throughout the years and there would be a clearer indication of importance. Also, I like the idea of each species having some kind of magic attached to it. Could be an interesting dynamic to explore if the magic creates conflict among the species themselves and prevents certain prophecy members from getting along. I’ll try to come up with some more ideas, but it’s late so y’all get a half baked reply. XD

So I was doing some thinking and this was what I came up with. In keeping with the main races, we could have the (5?) main family heads and then everything else can branch off of them with the magic. Of course, this is just me rambling so feel free to pick this system apart.
The Heavenlys (Angels)
- Main Family: Angels
- One of least diverse races around. They can have humanoid body structures with massive bird or bat like wings. These wings can vary in size, shape, or color, but there are little advantages/disadvantages from these traits. They simply provide a little uniqueness to a straight forward race. Though this family doesn't have many branches, magic tends to be stronger or more versatile than the Infernals magic.
- Perhaps Angels came directly from humans much like werewolves and through the utilization of Lux, they developed wings. Just spitballing here though.
- Despite Lux being represented by light and purity, Angels are not inherently good or pure. These beings can be just as cruel as any of the other races in this world.
- Sub Families:
- Winged creatures that manipulate Lumen/Lux such as Pegasi or other creatures
- little variety here
The Infernals (Demons)
- Main Family: Demons
- The polar opposite of angels in every aspect. This race can take many forms (humanoid, animaloid, spirit or shadow like) and is the most diverse race in this world. They are hard to classify so anything that controls (some name of magic) is labeled as a demon.
- Despite what you might think, these creatures have a goof relationship with most every race as they are generally easy going and adapt quickly to new environments or situations. However, some of the smaller subsets tend to be mischievous, but most carry distinct traits that prevent them from taking things too far.
- Perhaps they are one of the only species to be born from magic itself which could contribute to diversity.
- Need an opposite to Lumen magic
- Sub Families:
- Fae: Tall and beautiful humanoid creatures that are known for their unnatural stillness and inability to lie. They coexist peacefully amongst the other races as a wandering merchant race.
- Vampires: Unnaturally pale humanoid/animaloid demons that survive on the blood of other creatures. This was a once feared race of demon, but through time, vampires were successfully able to integrate into society by only drinking the blood of the lesser animals such as deer. While their overall body shape resembles a human, they maintain many animal like features such as slitted eyes and sharp canines. They are nocturnal and most despise the the full light of the sun.
- Other more ‘sinister’ creatures and lots of variety XD We could really go wild with this branch.
The Elementals
- Five distinct families (I feel like I’m writing Avatar over here XD)
- Fire
- Can manipulate/create fire and the like. Less common though versatile in shape and use. Associated with animals and flighty movement.
- Water
- One of the most common breeds of Elementals as water exits in almost everything. Can manipulate, but not create water or the like.
- Earth
- Also common, but less so than water. This involves manipulating earth or the like with these elementals being talented stone and metal smiths.
- Wind
- Least common outside of Aether elementals. This remains one of the harder elements to manipulate, but can also be the most versatile once grasped. It is represented by breathing and the mind and these elementals tend to be intellectuals.
- Void (Space)
- Can manipulate the unseen energy, the most basic natural forces of the world (Gravity, inertia, vectors, etc). This is a broad and overarching element as it is purely define as the absence of the ‘earthly’ elements and presence of the intangible elements. Many can do things that are largely seen as taboo (such as reversing the flow of someone bodily vectors or controlling gravity itself). It is the rarest and most misunderstood of the elements.
The Shifters
- Main Family: The Werewolves
- They could be the original shifters as the first form taken with Belua was a wolf. Perhaps this family had a Lupine god that they worshipped and strived to please the god by taking its form every full moon. Now, it’s become less of a spiritual practice and more socially acceptable for werewolves to shift whenever, wherever they want. Yet, they still retain their full moon powers.
- This could explain why the prophecy always chooses a descendant from this bloodline. As the original users of Belua, they would have been the first to encounter the prophecy.
- Belua: In regards to their magic, they would have relatively the same amount as other families, but magic on the full moon is stronger and more detrimental to the health of the werewolf if used too much.
- Sub Families: Any other type of shifter
- These shifters come from pushing Belua past its original intent. Instead of taking the form of a wolf, they take the form of any other type of animal. Perhaps each family has a certain animal they favor based on the old gods or perhaps some families specialize in a vast array of animals.
- I think this could be interesting for the original shifter characters. This way we can maintain the shifter character if that person so chooses or we can make some other new family subset.
- Perhaps these families have beef with the werewolves because they are seen as heretics. Despite religion being widely unpracticed among the werewolf clan except for a few smaller zealots, there could still be conflict among the families.
- In regards to the prophecy, maybe this character could come from anywhere. This character could be widespread and versatile. Perhaps the families gain status from having their daughter/son chosen.
[li] Or we could switch the order e.i. the shifters coming first and the werewolves being the smaller subset. Doesn’t matter just thought this set of organization could be interesting.[/li][/ul] The Mages- No overarching family structure as Anima magic tends to manifest in wildly unpredictable ways across the race.
- Some families are more stable than others but due to the flighty nature of Anima, no family has higher status than the other. More based on individual prowess and ability than bloodline.
- These mages must use spells, spoken/written word to use Anima. Undoubtably the hardest to contain or utilize type of magic, but strong mages are to be feared for their limitless potential.
Any other families??

Those sound really good! If Lux is the Aether than I might change the elements to only four elements and get rid of Void. That way they don’t conflict or overlap. But everything else looks really good! I think we are on a good path.

Post by Deleted on May 9, 2020 17:28:00 GMT -5
Hmmm... maybe I could keep void and just have it be the oddball element. I based it on the Japanese system of elements which have Aether as the fifth element, but maybe space could be the fifth element in our system? XD I think weather would fall under the other elements because storms are essentially just wind and water combined. Space would be interesting because it is the absence of the elements. It could be used as a sort of natural forces such as gravity, inertia, or vectors. Basically the physics element. XD
It would still be pretty powerful and rare since it’s so odd.

I think that would be fun. If we each made a House in the Family or Sub Families then we could create some back story to for each group. I would be down to design a werewolf family crest. Personally, I think that it would differ in the different family groups. Like the Shifters would probably have a very rigid hierarchy since the werewolves are the reigning family and they are pack minded. But the demons might have a very relaxed form of government since they are so spread out.

I really like that! I think that the rejection of modern tech in the shifter is especially appropriate. It could be really interesting if each group had differing levels of technological development. Maybe the Mages are the most with the times and like you have the most democratic.
Also, I was thinking about the cause of the curse. We mentioned that the wars and specialization of magic caused the families to form right? What if the curse came after the war because one of the families was spiteful and found a way to get back at the others? They messed with some forbidden form of magic and caused an even bigger issue than they thought. Now, it's been plaguing the land for centuries and the only way for it to be stopped is for the descendants of the original war to make amends.
That family can be one of the existing families or if we wanted to be extra, the family could have died out leaving the others to clean up their mess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it's funny how we had basically had the exact opposite idea. XD I'm down for that as well though I do like the idea of the families having tension between them. Maybe not a full out war, but defiantly not peace. Perhaps the curse resurfacing again is the catalyst to another war and the descendants are the last line of defense. If they can't put an end to the curse then the families will go back to full blown war from pure frustration of the situation. What if some of the clans were mislead about the way to end the curse and thought that bloodshed would appease the gods?? Feels like something the werewolves would do.
If the heroes can from warring clans, they would be forced to work together for the better of the their people. Maybe some are more willing to join forces than others. It would give them another motivation to succeed other than a supernatural curse ravaging their homes. Obviously, the curse isn't going to destroy the world because this has been going on for decades, but it their own people were going to destroy each other should they fail... well, that would be pretty motivating to me. XD
OR
We could go the peace route. A chosen few picked to finish what their ancestors couldn't. The idea that the original band of friends created the prophecy is a nice one. This could work, but I don't think it would have as much gumption. However, I have a flair for the dramatic and angsty so everything I RP tends to be that way. XD If we want to go this route, I'm down. It just needs to be powerful enough to keep the drama going, you know??
|
|
|
Post by Deleted on May 11, 2020 0:42:52 GMT -5
The drama is just soooo nice. XD I love the tension that a good plot line can bring to an RP.
In regards to the outside problems, I'm not sure how much would be too much. I know in the previous RP we had the humans, but they functioned as the catalyst for the characters to get together. We could have something like what you're describing, but I do think it could get a little cluttered if we aren't careful.
Perhaps the curse attacks a different type of magic everything it surfaces, weakening the creatures attached to it as well. Maybe the curse has finally weakened the magics enough that everything in the world is crumbling now.

Nah that’s not just you. XD I think the near death experiences make everyone better friends. XD
We can totally do an outside threat. I personally would find one of the families as that threat interesting. Let’s just put the werewolves out there since my girl’s the werewolf. If that family started to act weird, got involved with the cult, or started to have defectors, than I think that it would be really interesting development between the characters. We already kind of stated that the different ideas on how to end the curse could come into play, but wouldn’t it make total sense for the families to proactively do something about the curse? The werewolves, for example, would probably start to push back on the idea of the prophecy and cause fights that way. I don’t think it’s far fetched for the families to fight against the main group.
Either that or we could have the cult manipulating many of the prominent Houses in the Family groups.
Now, that I’m thinking about it, an outside threat is probably going to be needed. We can make it something subtle (like a cult tricking families into turning their back on the group) or we can go big (like all out invasion of mutated creatures).
Welcome back Amber! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

A combination of those things would be good. We can just go with the flow if we don’t want to think about it too hard. I find that sometimes inspiration strikes after RPing has started.
That’s how I get past a certain time of the night. I just don’t want to world build. I’ll RP and write cause that’s not development, but I just can’t for the life of my world build or actually put good ideas on paper. XD
Maybe a question will get the juices flowing: how will the prophecy members know how to identify each other and will there be a meeting place? I know we had the crystals in the last RP, but if we do usual markings than those can be confused. I was thinking about initial meetup and how would that work. I’m not sure some of the character would want to just travel cross country for their destiny or if they would even know where to go. Especially if some of the families have a warped sense of the prophecy, then some of the characters might not even know what to do with themselves. Does that make sense? I’m probably reading too far into things, but this is the kind of stuff I tend to think about. XD
The little things you know?

Post by Deleted on May 11, 2020 23:47:04 GMT -5
A tattoo like marking on each of the families would be legit. It could be used to identify the prominent families, but also for each of the chosen. What if the tattoos developed with the curse coming back?? Like the chosen dont know who they are until the tats start to take shape and form. There could be a lot of potential drama because I would imagine that not everyone would be keen on screaming their destiny to the world. Honestly, I’m a sucker for glowing tattoos. XD Many of my characters have had them in the past.
A spot where everyone could mingle would be nice. I know the groups have a potential for war, but most citizens don’t walk around with a huge chip on their shoulder. They probably just want to survive and thrive. XD So meeting there could be good.
I really like the idea of the dreams. If we went this route, the chosen could actually meet without realizing it. In my head, I started to imagine a misty dream where one by one they could ‘awaken’. Maybe everyone can see each other, but no one can interact. It could also be neat if each chosen had a different dream which corresponds to their ancestors original ‘sin’ or trouble.
Basically we could do A LOT with the dreams and really make them unique for each character. I think you are right with characters that are more reluctant. Perhaps the dreams slowly start to invade reality if not acted upon, forcing the character to just go. XD
I’m rambling and not making any sense, but I love dream sequences.

Yeah, I think we should do what we want at this point. XD Why not, really? I have a tattoo irl and I absolutely adore it. I’ve always wanted a tattoo so that desire tends to bleed into my characters a lot. Plus, I think there is a lot of fun things you can do with tats and story telling. You have to be careful to not make it too ostentatious, but if done correctly, they can be a huge aid to symbolism and plot. So I’m DOWNNN~~ for the developing tattoos. XD We could do the 7 deadly sins. I mainly said ‘sins’ cause I didn’t know if we had settled on the warring families or the group trying to stop everything and failing before creating the prophecy. XD The little snippets could be really good because then the group could use them all to aid in the families overarching journey. Like a puzzle. XD Exactly! Just to get the ball rolling and the characters together.

XD I get that hardcore. It’s a big decision and I fiddled with placement for a long time. I settled for the bridge of my foot and honestly, pretty happy with that choice. Oh I see! Sorry I misunderstood. XD Each family having responsibilities that must be amended is a great idea that I think would do great with the group falling apart. Each family was responsible for the rift created between the group members so they much bare the blame. I just had the saddest idea though. Remember how I mentioned that some factions thought that the answer was to spill blood? We’ve never discussed how the group is actually going to stop the curse. It would be horrible and mean and perfect if the group had to die. Not because they failed kind of died, but because in order to succeed they had to sacrifice themselves. Dun know if it could work without it being cliché, but I too like to torture my characters. XD It could explain why some families are so dead set on killing the characters off; they have part of the prophecy right. The catch is just that the group must be willing.

Hey y'all, idk if you saw my post on the old RP but... hi! I'm alive! None of my exams killed me, somehow. I'd love to help with the new RP! I haven't read through all the posts yet, but I am working on them. Personally I would love it if we could keep the vampires in the RP, just I got really attached to Alex and can only really see him that way. Idk how it would fit in, but if we are still running with the whole key traits for different species thing, I think vampires could go in with tradition/stability/family (honestly it would be interesting to see with how their family-oriented society would contrast with the werewolves, just since both cultures seem to prioritize family but also hate and not understand each other), but we can figure that out.
Also the choosing who to die and then all dying as a group is such a good idea! So painful, so cruel, so perfect.... mwahaha

Everything over here is going well! I'm just trying to avoid getting to bored and actually motivate myself to do something productive (like clean my room that just kinda... exploded over the past few weeks).
I really like the idea of expanding the history lore, and I like everything y'all've (heheh i love a superacronym) come up with so far. Just trying to think of a few ideas on my own.
Oh the Angst™! I love it, really do. Idk who mentioned this but someone mentioned having marks instead of gems? I think that would be really cool. Maybe they could manifest interestingly or if these characters have a bit of an extra power than most of their species then the marks could move? Idk if you've watched Doctor Who but I'm thinking of the markings Me had with the Quantum Shade? Essentially they were dark swirls on her neck that moved and could leave her skin to become a murderous raven. Weird, but really cool. Maybe we could do something like that? They wouldn't have to leave every time but maybe if they had something to do w/ everyone's powers?

I really like the idea that the families all contributed to the original problem! I think that's a very cool idea. The neutral zone in the middle is also nice, and I like the idea that there's an international passage of peace/safe travels or whatever.
As for the markings, I think I'd prefer something more abstract than literal family crests, but I'd be down with each powerful family having a theme of some sort. Like maybe wizards all have sparks or cross-hatchings or something, I don't know. The idea that the marks correlate with power and family heritage is really cool. Personally I'm a sucker for tattoos that move or somehow change (like if they glow like you two were talking about), so I'm totally down with that.
I mostly have ideas for vampires, but I'll try to think of more for others as well. I think vampires should also fall under the category of Belua, just since those abilities are largely physical (and some can turn into bats). Maybe both vampires and werewolves evolved/originated from the same group? Maybe that's how they became so divided? I don't know.
Honestly, I just want to RP Alex again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But yeah, I am totally making his a bunch of swirls that turn into smoke. It was just so cool...

Hey y’all!! Sorry I was gone for a bit. Some stuff came up irl that I had to deal with, but I’m here now and have read the last few posts! I’d be down for the vampire under Belua because that was just me spitballing. The only problem is that three members of the prophecy would come from Belua bloodline (werewolf, all animal shifter if that person comes back, and the vampire) which I don’t know would make much sense. When I was creating those brackets, I was trying to go for balance and what makes sense from real life lore. Most cultures consider vampires to be demonic in nature because they are basically undead parasites. XD Stygian magic kind of seemed like the catch all magic to me when Star first described it so I thought that it would work well. I think she also threw out an idea that since it was the opposite of Lux (which is basically the magic of life) that it would work as the magic of death. They have to take life to sustain themselves. However, I think it could be an interesting to have the vampires be a shoot off out of the shifter family. I mean if the werewolves did indeed invent the shifting to please a god (we don’t have to keep this, I just thought it could be neat lore) than any non werewolf would be heretics. XD So if the vampires were indeed bat shifters and started messing around with Stygian magic, perhaps they were corrupted by the magic since they were out of their league?? Like it did something to them and made them largely loose their Belua magic and depend more and more on the Stygian magic to sustain themselves. Hence the need for blood like stated above and the werewolves vivid hatred for their kind. also, y’all don’t have to call me ShootfortheStars. That’s too much to type. XD Just call me Shoot. Most call me Star but since we already have a Star, I’m cool with Shoot.

I like the idea that vampires went from Belua to Stygian magic a lot! It makes a lot of sense for them. And the rivalry would be great to expand. Just generally I like history worldbuilding.
Although going back to the rest of the RP (even though I kinda got us on this tangent, sorry about that), what else do we need to address? Do we want to flush out their journey a bit or play it as we go once we start the RP? Should we figure out a concrete starter that we can work with in the RP and then just go from there? I don't want to rush too much, but I just think we should focus on the essentials that we need to get everything running.

Yeah, I kinda like doing worldbuilding while RPing, you know? Like honestly a lot of my posts with Alex were just exposition of him thinking about vampire history xD
Great! I think that a rough outline of the plot would be good. Just so we have some direction, but if we want to change it we can. I'm going to include a bullet point list below of what I think we have so far? I don't know, just so we can see what if anything we need or want to flush out. I think that honestly we could have everyone come up with why their characters are travelling on their own, just since there are so many different cultures so the reasons could be different. So maybe someone comes from a nomadic group so they leave on their own admission, maybe someone else was outcast, someone else encourages and supported by their community to leave, etc. I don't know, just an idea, but... yeah.
[li] everyone has weird dreams indicating that they should leave[/li]
[li] everyone leaves their home[/li]
