Upon reading SH, I was struck by how odd Sandstorm's behavior was while Squirrelflight was in StarClan. Whereas everyone else were fine to let Squirrelflight decide on her own whether or not to stay, Sandstorm was literally begging her to stay. This made me wonder, did Sandstorm know about the impostor's plan? While I'm sure she missed Squirrelflight, it seemed uncharacteristically pushy for her and really stuck out to me.
This led me to next question: what exactly was the point of the clouds from the mountains omen earlier in the book? That omen was clearly a warning to drive out the Sisters. Why would StarClan purposefully push the Clans to war? Perhaps StarClan couldn't predict that Leafpool and Squirrelflight would be killed by a landslide and there isn't some grand conspiracy.
But let's say there is. Where exactly do StarClan's prophecy's come from? After seventeen years, this still hasn't been revealed. There are only two clues.
1. The prophecies do not appear to originate within StarClan. In the prologue of whatever book, Cloudstar gives a prophecy to Firestar to pass along. If this prophecy was created by StarClan, why did Cloudstar only tell him the prophecy and no other information? Does that mean Cloudstar was also in the dark?
2. We know there is a power higher than StarClan. Rock and Midnight. They are said to be ever existing spirits that predate the Clans. Could prophecies be coming from them? Could this be proof that this situation goes beyond the impostor?
Keep in mind that Rock isn't necessarily a friend to the Clans. He has shown disdain for their ways in the past. He could be part of a bigger plan to reform the Clans, and is simply using the impostor as a means to an end.
