I think it should depend on whether the townspeople choose the sacrifice, or if the curse does. If it's the townspeople, then it should be a surprise to her on Sacrifice Day (all Hunger Games-like). But if it's the curse, then she should know in advance, somehow. Like, maybe in the days leading up to Sacrifice Day, a black arrow appears at the chosen one's bedroom window, and that's how everyone knows whose turn it us to try and break the curse.
And speaking of the curse, I don't know if this would gave been obvious or not, but I'm thinking it has to be affecting the whole town, not just the mansion/Magic. Otherwise, why would they so willingly sacrifice their young women? Something like constant crop failures, animals not producing enough milk/meat, bad luck striking businesses, that sort of thing. And there should be something preventing people from coming or leaving too, and therefore preventing trade with other places.

Oooh, I like that idea. I think the curse should choose the Sacrifice. That way, no outside forces could sway the decision. We'll go with that one.
And, yeah, I wasn't thinking along the same lines. I think maybe diseases should be added to the list. Make them real desperate in order to be so heartless and willing to sacrifice anyone to make it stop. Without proper food or chances to leave and find cures, that should do a lot in their thinking. Or, better yet, maybe each year is different? One year it might be illness, the next crop failure, and so on. By the time they recover from one, something else is happening, and they never know what to expect so they can't prepare properly for it.

Haha, it does, but some wigs are made with material that mimics real hair pretty well, and you can style it like real hair too. It amazes me. The one I have I won't be able to do much with since it's still on the cheaper side of wigs, but I think once the bangs get trimmed it'll be fine. XD Yes please! Give me cute doggo pictures. XD
I DID IT! I finally found the inspiration for the starter. My apologies for taking so long.
A part of her knew that the day would come for her to die. Whether it be by illness, starvation, or fate, it was bound to happen. Old age had removed itself from the equation since the curse broke out among the town. Anyone who would have once had that luxury was no longer around, killed by the plague which ravaged them year after year. Ten years to be exact. For ten years, Lexi had watched her town suffer, had toiled, and struggled to survive right alongside the rest of her family and friends. All while the rest of the world was unable to interfere or offer any kind of aid. She had gone from being a sixteen-year-old girl, full of life and hope for the future waiting for her, to a woman who had to witness the ones she loved to be picked off one by one, falling victim to the wrath of a woman who had found some kind of fault with them.
The woman sat on the bench by her window, staring out at the sun as it slowly made its way down the sky. There were three hours until sunset, and two hours until her freedom came to an abrupt halt. Then who knows how long until her life eventually ceased to exist. In her hands, she clutched the black arrow that had appeared on her windowsill a week prior. It was a dreaded symbol to every young woman. The symbol of this year's Sacrifice. Truth be told, she was never sure why there was a need for a Sacrifice. Sure, with each young woman offered up, the curse seemed to release the town from its clutches for a brief period. However, it was never enough to recover. Three months it would cease, but three months was not a lot of time. It was more or less used as a time for mourning before the cursed started once more.
Lexi had dared to hope that she would be spared. After all, ten years had gone by, and she hadn’t been chosen. However, with the numbers dwindling in the town at an alarming rate, the list of eligible Sacrifices were thinning. From what they had observed, the curse only chose young women, not yet thirty in age. No one knew why that was. Now, at the age of twenty-six, she had no choice but to be the one to give respite to the town.
