Phoenix didn't go to work that night. He called his boss and said he had a family emergency to take care of. "Emergency" may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but it was close enough to the truth. For Phoenix, family always came first, and as long as Catori was feeling beat up over her missing necklace, he wouldn't ne able to focus on anything other than finding it. He still had nothing but a feeling to tell him the redhead — he thought her name might start with an F — had been the one to steal it, but he was going to play it out until he knew for sure, one way or the other.
Which was why he was hanging out in a tree across the street from her building, watching the door. Phoenix was no expert on thieves, but he felt confident bolting was a habit of theirs, and after Phoenix's threats earlier, it seemed the logical next step for this one. If she was the thief, in any case. Either way, Phoenix would be finding the truth tonight.

Dinner was forgotten about. Two things would happen now. Either Phoenix would try and come back, or he would call the cops. If the cops were involved, she'd be screwed. She had gone this long flying under the radar, and she wasn't about to make herself a sitting duck. Checking the time, if she left now, she'd have time to make it to the net town over and make it to a pawn shop before they closed. There was one she liked to use in situations like this when she had to get rid of something fast. She couldn't risk keeping the necklace was not an option.
Opening the drawer, she grabbed the necklace and went to get her bag. She carried around a messenger style bag, big enough for her to carry the items she was selling without being suspicious. The necklace she tucked in the bottom of the bag, underneath some random, everyday supplies that would normally be found in a woman's purse. With it safely hidden, she grabbed her wallet and keys before leaving her apartment. If she was lucky, she would be able to catch a bus without having to wait too long.

Phallon kept to a walk, a power walk, but a walk. She knew running would only cause more attention to herself. Sure, she could use the excuse of wanting to catch the bus, but she'd rather not have any confrontations at all. So, as much as she hated to, she was limited to a speedy walk. The woman never liked heading out of town at night. Nothing good ever seemed to happen at such times. While it was still daylight right now, it wouldn't by the time she headed back.
Reaching the bus stop, she allowed herself to check around her. It was a habit that she was sure she wasn't the only one to do. A female traveling alone was a target. Personally, she only knew the basics of self defense, and that was only what she picked up over the years. If she was cornered, her chances of escape would rely heavily on how well she could evade her attacker or how much she can stun him to make a break for it. There was a pocket knife in her pocket, but she hadn't ever been able to use it effectively.

Phoenix dropped from the tree, landing surprisingly softly for such a big guy, and jogged silently to the corner, sticking to the shadows. Only after the girl reached the bus stop, and he the corner opposite, did he cross the road. He waited until her back was turned, then crept up behind her. He forced himself to stop a few feet back, rather than get close and loom over her like he wanted to. That's what he did when he wanted a fight, and while, yeah, he would have liked having something to hot in that moment, she wouldn't be it, whether or not she was the thief.
"So," he said, and though he tried for casual, he wasn't a good enough actor so he just sounded cross. "Where you off to, tiny?"

Phallon jumped at the sound of the voice behind her. She turned, only to find Phoenix standing a few feet away. "You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were stalking me," she commented. The tiny comment irritated her, but now wasn't the moment to get snappish about insults to her height. "If you must know, which I'm sure you don't, I'm supposed to meet a friend for drinks, and I'm late thanks to your little visit."

Phoenix didn't actually want to hang out with her. He would rather be shoved in a box than go anywhere with this girl. But something about her response had him sticking with it, and turning it to his advantage. "You want me to stop treating you like a thief? Then stop acting like one. Go out for drinks with me, and see if you can't convince me of your innocence. But if you insist on going alone, I'm going to assume you're guilty."
Ooooh, okay okay okay. They should go out for these drinks, almost as if they're on a date, and at some point one of them should ask or dare or challenge the other into a second date, which will later turn into a third date, and so on, until Phallon decides she likes Phoenix enough to not want to steal from his sister anymore, so she puts the necklace somewhere where it looks like it just "turned up." Then Phoenix will apologize for thinking she was a thief, which will make her feel terrible, until, somehow someway, he finds out the truth and it puts a big wedge into their budding relationship (whatever that may be). :D

Phallon rolled her eyes and turned away from him for a moment. "You've got to be kidding me," she muttered. Then looked back to the man that was quickly becoming the bane of her assistance. "Fine. You want to take me out for drinks to prove you're being irrational, then you can. But I'm not going to bring you around my friend with you waving all this nonsense about. She's probably already lost hope in my arrival anyway." As she spoke, she brought her phone out of her pocket to check the time, then gave another sigh. "Since you've all but ruined my previous plans, you're going to take me to the Wooden Fox."
The Wooden Fox was an Irish pub she found on the other side of town. It was a small spot, tucked in among the older buildings of the city, yet it reminded her of home. She found herself sitting among those walls even when she didn't have the funds to sample the drinks they provided. It wasn't a perfect representation of her homeland, but it was better than nothing.
I like that. I'm all up for that. XD Phallon doesn't have many true friends due to her disdain for being in the country, so when she actually starts to see Phoenix isn't too bad of a person and is even considering her a friend, she's really starting to struggle with her morality because of it. When she comes clean to him, I feel like tempers are going to fly on both sides. Phoenix feels betrayed that she lied to him, and Phallon is defensive and angry just in general because she didn't necessarily want to be in that situation. That should be fun to watch. XD

Phoenix watched her, impatient and more than a little annoyed, and her agreeing to go out for a drink with him didn't improve his mood at all. If anything, it pissed him off more because it meant there really was a chance he was wrong here. This girl was either a very good actor, or she was innocent. And Phoenix wasn't a strong enough judge of character — not true character, at any rate, though he was pretty good at spotting assholes; Catori said that was because he, himself, was an asshole — to guess which category this girl fell under without spending more time with her.
He didn't care that she would be leaving her friend — real or imagined — out of it, but he couldn't help making a face at her bar of choice. Phoenix had nothing against Irish people — his mother was from Ireland, after all — but he wasn't a fan of going around Irish themed locals. The patrons of such places tended to take one look at him, with his red hair and pale-ish skin, and expect him to be Irish. Never mind that he was, technically, Irish. His mother had come to America after getting pregnant with him, so his father was doubtless some Irishman. But Phoenix hadn't spoken with an Irish accent since he was a kid and his mother married Liam.
But he was too stubborn to back out, so he just said, "Fine. Lead the way."
Yeee. Another drama filled, almost-romance, coming right up! xD

Phallon nodded. Returning her phone to her pocket, she headed down the street. The walk to the pub wasn't the quickest. By the time to two arrived, the sun had pretty much disappeared. Normally, she would have taken the bus here, or caught a ride with someone she knew. However, this time around, she just wanted to be rid of her companion as soon as possible. Lights flooded through the windows of the small establishment, and she could hear the muffled music spilling out through closed doors the closer they got. It made her feel a little better to be in a spot she knew well. Here she had many people who would help her out if Phoenix started causing problems.
Opening the door, she stepped inside, holding it open until the man could take it from her. Inside was the typical pub scene. TVs played several different sports games, men and women alike were all laughing, cheering, or talking among themselves, and there wasn't a person in there who did not have a mug or glass in front of them. The scene made her smile slightly. "Dia duit, Jamis," she called to the man behind the counter.
The bartender, called out for being Jamis, turned at the greeting and smiled. He was an elderly man, reaching his late sixties, early seventies, black hair thinning and long turned grey. However, his eyes still shone with a light of mischief. "Ah, I was beginning to worry about you. Haven't seen you around in a while, lass. Come, get a seat. I'll be with you in just a moment."
Haha, what we do best. X3
DISCLAIMER: All of the Irish I use for her is mostly looked up on the Internet, so I have no clue if all of it will be completely correct. XD

Phoenix trailed the girl — he really needed to figure out her name — to the pub in silence. He had to slow his stride considerably to match her shorter one, which didn't endear her to him anymore than she already had — which is to say: not at all. He didn't notice the sun setting, not really. He was aware of it getting darker, but he didn't apply a time frame to it. By the time they arrived, he pretty much just wanted to get this over with.
He caught the door she held open for him and stepped in after her. His gaze immediately stared roaming around, taking note of all the people. He didn't notice things about people the way others did. Instead of seeing hair and eye color, or noting what other people were wearing, Phoenix looked at people and saw their strengths and weaknesses if they were to get in a fight.
He was sizing up a big bear of a man across the bar when the girl called to someone in Irish. The language caught his attention; he hadn't heard it in years. He used to speak it fluently, switching effortlessly between it and English when he was growing up. But both he and his mother had begun speaking it less and less after she married Liam. Now, while he still knew the language, he didn't consider himself fluent, though he no doubt could be if he used it ever.
Indeed. xD
Gotcha. That's usually what I do too. xD

Phallon stopped at the bar and leaned her arms against the counter, waiting for Jamis to finish the order. When he did, he took in the sight of her and the unknown man behind with a grin.
"I see the lass has joined us this evening with her twin," the old man jested, noting the red hair they sported. His accent was heavily Irish, but he had lived in America long enough to where it wasn't hard to understand his words.
"I wouldn't go that far with the compliment," Phallon responded, her own accent making a stronger appearance in the presence of the old man. "He's more like a stray that won't leave me alone. A stray who happens to be paying for the drinks tonight, so I'll take your best whiskey."
Jamis gave a lough, hearty laugh at this. "Is that so? Well then, does this stray have a name?" To this, he looked towards the man, expecting that he would want to introduce himself.
"I wouldn't go

The man's comment made Phoenix frown, and he looked at the girl and noticed, really noticed, what she looked like. She looked more like his sister than him, with the long red hair, pale skin, dainty figure, and big green eyes. Catori took after their mother; Phoenix took after his unknown father. The only thing Phoenix and this girl had in common was their red hair, and even that was slightly different in shade and style.
At her comment, Phoenix shot her a dark look. He didn't remember offering to pay for her drinks. This wasn't a date. Unless she thought it was? At what point had he given her that impression?
With a scowl, Phoenix tapped one finger furiously on the bar top. "It's Phoenix. And make it two whiskeys."
