I always read the last page of a book first, then flip back to the beginning and start. Not even joking

I always read the last page of a book first, then flip back to the beginning and start. Not even joking I used to do this too. I was a very impatient child. Lol Most of the time the last page didn’t even make sense anyway out of context.

So far, I’ve read over 20 books this year. I am pretty impressed with myself because that is like a book every two weeks.

That's awesome!
And also I used the read the end too. Less out of impatience, but out of cynicism. XD

I read a book called ‘Melissa’ by Alex Gino, then finished it and was sad cuz no more books, then read ‘Rick’ by Alex Gino and- no even joking -I literally screamed because I hadn’t realized it was the sequel. I was so happy. Then sad again, then I read ‘Green’ by Alex Gino, and didn’t scream but I did happy stomp. (Basically bouncing my knees really fast then standing up and spinning around and stomping because ADHHDDHHDHDHHDH- soryry ADHD

finished it which is good news! it was quite good. it was like a spooky thriller kind of story about a group of people who were on a mysterious and never recorded/documented tv show as children that ended when one of the kids on the show may have died in an accident, and then they're reunited as adults to do a retrospective podcast about their experience, but like there was something super suspicious and supernatural going on with the show and now its haunting them into the present. It was very atmospheric and had some interesting themes about what we value in and seek to protect in childhood.

What's the best and worst books you've read so far this year?
For me, the best is Middlemarch by George Eliot and the worst is Womb City by Tlotlo Tsamaase.

I thought the ending was a bit heavy-handed, but overall it was a fun time. it was not the most subtle in its messaging, but i thought the actual plotting of the end was interesting. it was not neat or overly heartwarming, it was honestly quite melancholy. I wanna read more of White's books now though, I've heard good things about several of her other works.
and my worst read of the year was definitely Bride by Ali Hazelwood. I have some regrets on picking that one up. Best is likely one of the ones I'm in the middle of currently, Little Thieves by Margaret Owen or The Project by Courtney Summers.

JUST finished reading Don't Call the Wolf by Alexsandra Ross and posting on this thread is the first thing I do while it's still fresh on my mind. I got the book a few years ago since I thought the cover was really cool but I only picked it up again after doing some spring cleaning. And WOW was it a ride. It's a fantasy novel richly based in Polish folklore. Keep in mind there are a lot of words and names that are written in the language that may deter readers but (thankfully) there is a pronunciation index and it was super helpful!! My very basic spoil-free review is below: I absolutely loved the first half. Stakes instantly started off high and our main characters are fleshed out well. Interest does start to dwindle a bit in the second half with constantly shifting POVs. The book does have issues with pacing and being crammed with too many characters (for example, our main POV has NINE brothers and the book constantly flips between flashbacks focused on them for worldbuilding) but somehow it doesn't get nearly as messy as you think would. I think that's a feat of itself. The latter half has lots of plot twists that may leave you confused if you stop reading for a bit.
I particularly have my qualms with the last, maybe 5 chapters or so. They were a bit sappy for my taste and I would've loved to end things off on a more somber note. I can't go into detail without spoiling but I'd honestly love to ramble and do a rewrite of the ending when I get a chance. It may take months. I'll get the ball rolling on something eventually. All in all, Don't Call the Wolf SUCH a good read it you're looking for something more unique and unorthodox from your typical fantasy/horror book, albeit a bit packed with pacing and character writing. I strongly recommend it! You may even get a Polish lesson out of it.

I just started reading ‘The Sunbearer Trials’ sadly I can’t remember the author… but it’s really good! It’s like the Hunger Games and some queer fan fiction had a child.
I also just finished a book called ‘Furry Faux Pas’ and it was the first book I had ever read where the main character was a furry. It was slightly cringy, but overall a really great read!

For fun: Just finished The Great Gatsby, Fahrenheit 451, and caught up with Beastars, and I'm in the middle of reading Good Omens and Battle Royale. If you liked the fighting bits of the hunger games, ABSOLUTELY pick this one up!! For school (still fun, but I didn't choose it): The Handmaid's Tale A Streetcar Named Desire The Duchess of Malfi Poems by John Donne What I want to read next: Burial Rites, 1984, reread Animal Farm, A Brave New World, Make Room! Make Room!, Pride and Prejudice, The Importance Of Being Earnest, Flowers for Algernon, The Children of Men, Six of Crows if any of y'all have any good dystopia / classic lit recommendations, please lmk! Also this sounds like a lot but it's from like last September. I wish I made the time to read more often instead of scrolling thru Instagram. Several years later... I actually did read Burial Rites for school but it's a fantastic book that I still think about on a weekly basis. I also did read Pride and Prejudice and Flowers for Algernon. Haven't gotten around to the others yet... I recently finished reading My Husband by Maud Ventura. It's fantastically creepy. Also, Good Omens is one of my absolute favourite books of all time. Currently reading Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata, Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett, Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov (taking many breaks because it's such a heavy read), and A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. It's slow progress, though, because I've been so busy with uni work these past few weeks. Was recently gifted a copy of A Brave New World! It comes with 3D glasses I forgot that I'd wanted to read it for so many years

Very good and/or interesting selections! Neat!
I'm currently tackling Sherlock Holmes again. Just finished Valley of Fear and starting on Sign of Four. I also just finished my first Stephen King book, as promised to a friend, and it was okay.

I've been kind of in a reading slump lately, but I've slowly been working through a gay romance book about a baseball player and a reporter in the 1960s. It's an excellent book by romance standards, but I'm not the world's biggest romance fan, so it's taking me a bit of time to get through. It's called You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian
