This will be the planning page for a Ancient Greece/Roman Rp. I want to create something that is a mix of action and mythological elements. Perhaps, something that involves a quest by one of the Greek or Roman gods or even something involving searching for one reason or another. Another idea could just be rping the Peloponnesian Wars or The Trojan War. This could be historically accurate or not at all. Any help could be appreciated.

Hey Hawky! I heard Ancient Greece and Rome and came running
I love this kind of stuff and would definitely love to help. I could definitely help out with historical accuracy and that kind of stuff if you end up going for the accuracy side of stuff)

I suppose the first thing is deciding what this rp will be about. Do we want simple Slice of Life with the Greeks and Romans living their lives and having adventures here and there or do we want to do something relating to one of the wars.

I’m good thanks, you?
Yeah I’d agree with Inky there we could 100% include elements of both. I think including female characters is tougher if we focus just on war but if we do slice of life and include elements of stuff like war we can do both)

Ayy another helper!
The only thing I would say about using the Trojan Wars is that it would be incredibly tricky to do historical accuracy, really, since there is huge debate in the academic world over whether the Greek society Homer writes about in the Iliad and Odyssey actually represents a real historical society, and if so in what period. Some say the Mycenaean period, some the 10th century BC, some the 7th century BC. The consensus for the Trojan War tends to be the 12th century BC for a general setting but honestly as I said there’s some debate around this. However, with it being a mythological war to begin with if you wanted to bring the gods into this they would probably fit most easily in there, especially since the gods were actually involved in the Trojan War according to the myths.
If you want more historical stuff, less gods, the Peloponnesian War is probably your best bet. If you’re looking for the typical hoplite warfare type stuff, this might be better. It completely depends on what you most want this roleplay to be like)

(Doing something with the gods would be a ton of fun!)

I'm leaning more towards having the gods involved and going on daring adventures!

I can see Zeus giving the quest but it could be anyone. Suppose the question is what is this quest exactly.

It could definitely be Zeus if you want it to be! Presumably Zeus or whichever god it is is communicating via Hermes, as the messenger. Unless the person taking the quest has a direct link to Zeus.
As for what the quest would be, I’m happy to help build on whatever ideas you might have in that way. Are they recovering an object for the gods? Did they somehow earn the wrath of the gods and need to get back in their favour (Herakles-style)? Whatever you want!)

Funny enough I was actually thinking about something kind of like this the other day. Like, that it could be fun to do a roleplay that somewhat mirrors some sort of Greek demigod adventure myth, where characters have to deal with creatures and the deities and all that, maybe having to complete trials or something of that sort. If you do want to do something like that as opposed to something more realistic, you could always go with demigods or people who have otherwise been touched by the gods, a bit Percy Jackson-ish, but taking place in actual Greece and/or Rome.
For some reason or another the first thought that comes to mind is a number of people from the Underworld who are given a chance to either come back to life or perhaps go to Elysium (or get away from the Fields of Punishment) if they are able to complete a certain task. Or perhaps it could be those who were turned away by Charon for being unable to afford the ferry across the River Styx in the first place, spirits who are stuck at the edge of the Underworld.
Could also be a number of other plots, though, like regular old demigods who are brought together, or normal people who are promised (or given) power in exchange for serving the gods in certain ways, for example.
While I'm not opposed to slice of life elements, I do think something with a little more direction, like a quest or at least an attempt to complete some kind of goal, would be more interesting.

Those are some really good ideas especially the souls of the Underworld seeking redemption. They could make a deal with Hades and they must complete their tasks in a certain number of days or be dragged back or they try and sneak out of the Underworld and seek help from another god or something.

If you wanted to directly involve some of the other gods maybe they choose different "champions" or something from among the dead. Which could be interesting because then all of the "heroes" would have the main goal in common but then some of them would also have to serve additional or even antithetical motives from different deities, which could create some in-group drama. Or something like that, idk lol.

Probably mostly start ironing out the plot details, I guess? There's a general idea but it's still pretty, well, general. Probably things like, what era it is, whether you want it to be Greek/Roman or just Greek (or just Roman), if it's both, how both play into it. Then getting into more specific things like what the quest is, what gods are involved and how, a general idea of where it'll take the characters/what (in very general terms) kind of adventure it would be (Odyssey type on the high seas? Espionage in the cities? Wilderness monster adventure? Journey through Tartarus? Some mixture? etc. etc.), who the characters are (again, in general terms- like, what kind of person; Underworld spirits? Desperate people praying to the gods and given a purpose? Demigods? Some mixture? etc.) and why they were chosen. That sort of stuff.
After that, I guess just your usual roleplay stuff of layout, character sheet, etc.

(I love all of these ideas and am happy to go with whatever Hawky finds most interesting here. I’m happy to help in any way I can!
In terms of the eras and historical stuff I can definitely help with that, and probably with little bits of the mythology stuff too, though honestly there’s always more when it comes to Greek myth so I by no means know everything.
In terms of the characters I personally thing a mixture would be fun? Even more ways to throw extra background and different motivations into it. And there are definitely some gods who would choose their own children to be their champions, and others would just choose any ordinary person who needed help. And including demigods would bring in even more stuff in terms of the relationships of different gods with one another and with the demigods)

Debating on normal people or demigods. Demigods sound cool but regular people doing greatness sounds just as good. Maybe the first step is escaping the Underworld then once they get out Hermes could appear to them and offer a certain quest?
