Okay, so I don't like romance at all, especially in YA, so I decided to try writing my own Cheesy Romance Drama, because I'm wondering what the appeal is, and maybe if I write one myself, I'll learn to like it more?
Anyway, here's Chapter One.
A Cheesy Romance Drama: Chapter One.
"Get up and get ready for school!"
With a small screech, Jennifer fell out of bed, as her mother's voice boomed through the whole house, rattling the pictures on the wall.
"Get up and get in gear, the bus is going to arrive soon!"
Oh right, Jennifer thought, as she picked herself up off the floor, Today is the first day of school.
High school.
The thought made her heart sing with happiness, and like a flare of lightning in the sky, she was suddenly wide awake.
"Now what will I wear?" she muttered aloud to herself, as she went over to her dresser, to pick out the perfect outfit for her first day of school.
She peered down in her drawer, to see the same shirt, but in all different colors ranging from sapphire to periwinkle.
Shaking her head, she closed the drawer, making a mental note to go shopping after school.
However, there was one issue with that, she and her rich friend, Bertha, had a huge fight last Friday, over whether or not Dan should have gotten with Linda or Suzie.
Jennifer thought he totally should have gotten with Linda, but Bertha was all team Suzie.
She scoffed, the memory disgusted her, why on earth would anyone want Dan to be with Suzie and not Linda?
Suzie liked vanilla ice cream more than chocolate!
"Are you guys ready or not?" Jennifer's mom sighed.
"Ready!" a stupid voice called, and Jennifer's twin brother, Hubert, came jumping out of his room, dressed in an olive green top, with a pair of brown corduroy pants, and a pair of maroon fingerless gloves.
"Oh crap!" Jennifer exclaimed, in her thoughts about Dan, Linda, and Suzie, she had completely forgotten to change out of her pajamas!
Without giving it too much thought, she grabbed the first shirt her hand reached, which was topaz, out of her drawer, and she pulled out a pair of denim jeans.
After running a brush through her short auburn hair, she was ready.
"Took you long enough," her mother said; her brows were furrowed together, basically touching.
"Whatever, Mom!" Jennifer responded, as she raced out the door, with her brother at her heels.
Oh freaking great, she thought to herself, when she saw that band nerd, Eliza standing with her trombone case in hand, like always.
As though Eliza had a sixth sense to know when someone, and who they were, were coming, she turned to face Jennifer, with a sneer on her face.
"Oh hi Jennifer, I'm so glad you could find your way to the bus stop! I thought you'd never get here."
"Um, I can see the bus stop from my house," Jennifer muttered, attempting to move past Eliza, but the larger girl moved to block her path.
"Not so fast."
"What? You want me to solve your riddle or something?"
Eliza's eyes widened, and she let out a small gasp.
"Are you calling me a troll?"
Jennifer shrugged.
"Well, if the shoe fits."
She made a point, to stare down at Eliza's purple crocs.
The band nerd rolled her eyes.
"Whatever! Look, I just wanted to know if Hubert came with you, we are dating you know."
"Are not-"
"Hey, Eliza, my girlfriend, did you save a seat for me on the bus?!"
Jennifer let out the breath that she didn't know she was holding, and let out a screech that caused everyone to snap their heads in her direction.
Could this be real? Could this be true? Was her twin really dating her worst enemy?
She shook her head, feeling as though she was in a daze, as she got onto the bus.
Could it all be an elaborate joke? she wondered.
She didn't know, though, she knew one thing was for certain, high school was beginning to look a lot more interesting.
