Plot: Apprentice A and Apprentice B have been friends since their kithood. Since they became apprentices they have trained together, and practically the whole clan could see them growing closer and closer to the point where even warriors weren't giving them grief about their feelings for each other at such a young age.
Though they obviously feel for each other, everything changes when Apprentice B's parent is killed. Apprentice A appears to be the one who has committed the murder, though the reason for this doesn't seem to be completely clear--though at that point, Apprentice C chimes in and suggests that perhaps Apprentice B's parent did not like the relationship, and Apprentice A killed them to keep the parent from separating them. This takes root more strongly than Apprentice A can combat, and he is expelled from the clan.
-----
I imagine we can start establishing the relationship between Apprentice A and B before the murder occurs--I think this doesn't necessarily need to happen immediately. Sound okay to you?
Characters:
Apprentice A Darkpaw Moons: 7 Physical description: A dark, black tom with an underbelly of white and three white paws, his front left paw being black. Has dark green eyes and a slim build with an unimpressive musculature. Personality/Characteristics: Darkpaw wouldn’t be exaggerating if he told you that his short life was filled with tragedy, but then he’d never make you listen to that. He’d rather carry the weight alone, make a joke or pull a prank and see you smile instead. Darkpaw, born in a litter of three was the only kitten to survive the leaf-bare’s round of whitecough. Losing his brother and sister left him lonely and guilty, feelings from which he hasn’t yet grown out of. Not demonstrating particular strengths like speed and agility, power, or ambition, one might say Darkpaw will stay at the side of those close to him until the end. Extras:
Apprentice B Petalpaw Moons: 7 Moons Physical description: Small and thin she-cat with reddish-brown fur with a white patch on her chest and her chin. Her nose is pale pink and her eyes pale green. Personality/Characteristics: She is what you could call a social butterfly. Maybe a little too social, she has to have someone to talk to or she gets bored really fast. For someone who talks so much, she is a bit of a pushover sometimes often choosing the way of peace over claws. When it comes to those she loves she is protective to the end and can act a bit rash. Always the smart one of her liter but always too shy to show it off. Loud, excitable, and tuned into the cats around her. Extra:
Apprentice C Lavenderpaw Moons: 9 Physical Description: a dark brown tom-cat with dark blue eyes, and rippling stripes of black running down his pelt and face. He has grown quick, and is strong with plenty of musculature and definition. Personality/Characteristics: the only cat of his litter, Lavenderpaw grew with all the attention of his parents and has grown quite self-important from it. A bit of an egoist, he enjoys showcasing his talents around others and the praise that tends to follow. Always out for someone’s attention, Lavenderpaw will talk the talk and then make it happen with his impressive strength and general hunting and sparring skills. One might see him as a bit of a prodigy apprentice, showcasing the skills a clan would want to breed in an apprentice. This has also led to him feeling entitled to particular attention and treatment, and that he is above the other apprentices. He struggles to understand him not being placed first in line for what he wants when he is clearly the most talented of the apprentices. When he doesn’t get what he wants, he tends to make it known and expects other cats to cave to him, as his parents always did. In spite of this, in normal conversation he tends to be charismatic and a warm friend when he thinks of another cat as such. Extras: Lavenderpaw has gained some of his strength from dreams in which he spars with a cat from the Dark Forest, though he doesn’t know this detail and hasn’t mentioned the dream sparring to any cat.

The night had passed in the blink of an eye, and Darkpaw emitted a quiet groan in his nest as the sun battered at him through the entrance to the apprentice's den. His apprentice duties were stacked one after the other the previous day being he had failed to catch more than one piece of prey, enough to feed only a couple of the older kits. It had been growing dark by the time he was done and, thankfully, he hadn't been selected for the dusk patrol. Though he had felt bad about it, he had skipped sparring with the other apprentices to catch extra sleep, not even grabbing a meal before he drifted to sleep.
Now, as his eyes blinked half open, he was greeted with the sight of red-brown fur near his face, and with a tiny purr begin to rise from his throat, he recognized the warmth curled up with him was Petalpaw. He felt a little jab of guilt, hoping that his groan hadn't woken her up, and he lowered his eyelids fully back over his eyes and gently pressed his muzzle back into her pelt, unable to convince himself to get up to do duties when warmth and sleep curled up with her sounded so much better. He would just hunt really hard later. At least, he thought to do so until a hard paw jabbed him in the back and aroused him immediately from any restful mood. "Get up, Darkpaw." His voice was unsympathetic as he hovered over the two apprentices. "It's time to get up. We're all going on the dawn patrol. We're on the lookout for moss, too. The elders' bedding needs changed." It wasn't fair. Darkpaw didn't get to curl up and sleep even later with Petalpaw, a far superior apprentice, while he went out to do duties. He could suffer the early morning just the same.
If the jolt of Darkpaw's body hadn't awoken her, the gentle shake from Lavenderfur followed it when he took a step closer to her. "Sorry to wake you, Petalpaw," He didn't seem to care about the glare Darkpaw gave him as he rose from his nest, clearly peeved about the awakening he got compared to this gentleness. He repeated to Petalpaw that they needed to help with the patrol.
Darkpaw wondered what he had done to do such a rude awakening. Maybe there was some sort of duty that came up after he went to sleep? If so, it hadn't been his intention. He had just been very tired. Sighing quietly, he stepped a couple pawsteps away and gave a hard stretch, his body aching in protest and leaving him wishing he had more time to rest. Frowning, he turned about and waited for Petalpaw to get up before leaving.

Petalpaw had an easier day than Darkpaw had the night before, she'd been on the sun-high hunting patrol and had joined the other apprentice for their sparring trip. It hadn't been the same without Darkpaw though. She'd seen the way he'd come back from hunting and knew it would be better to let him sleep regardless of how much she'd wanted her friend there. The she-cat had even brought him a mouse the night before, but Darkpaw was not waking up. So the red-furred apprentice curled up in her nest next to him, pressing against him for comfort.
As the morning came, she slept right through as usual. She was always the last one up. His groan only caused a little shift in the tightly curled ball that was Petalpaw. Then she felt him really move and her eyes fluttered open for a moment but she stayed where she was. Then a more gentle nudge woke her up finally. She lifted her head to see who it was. Lavenderpaw, fun her two friends all on the same patrol. The green-eyed apprentice stretched out in her nest before getting up and shaking her fur out. "A morning patrol!" She declared excitement in her voice, she was always so upbeat, it didn't matter what time of day it was. Petalpaw was always ready. She trotted after Darkpaw and brushed against him momentarily. "Morning Darkpaw, did going to sleep early help any?" Petalpaw asked tilting her head, "You seemed pretty out of it after the hunting patrol you had. Your mentor sure wasn't playing around with responsibilities yesterday."

Darkpaw flashed a tired smile towards Petalpaw as she began to rise, witnessing the apprentice's usual near-instantaneous switch into excitement and happiness. That was Petalpaw--nothing could stop her excitement, and that was part of what kept him going even when he felt himself beginning to drown in lack of hope or purpose. She wouldn't let him, the moment she saw it she was there, and just like those times, she was checking in with him now.
He leaned into her for the moment that she was brushing against him, grateful for even a fleeting return of her warmth now that, alone, the wind chill of the morning was clear. "Umm...I think so, yeah..." He was still feeling groggy and imagined he would be for a while. He didn't want to lie to her, but he also didn't want to make her worried at the very start of the day. It was impossible to keep a drop of tiredness out of his voice, however.
His dark green eyes gazed into her green eyes and he, with a quiet sigh, thought back to his mentor the previous day. "Well, it is my fault, after all. If I would stop being such a mouse-brain and get the stupid hunter's crouch perfected, maybe I could catch more than a lousy vole for the kits." His voice was lined with disdain for himself, adding on top of the scolding he had already gotten from his mentor. "If I don't do better today, I think he will end up flaying me."
"Come on, we have to get going. Darkpaw, try to get some prey or something on the patrol, but we need to get going. Birchtooth is grabbing another warrior and we need to be ready to go once she does." Birchtooth, his mentor, wouldn't be patient with the apprentices--She expected punctuality, a standard set by Lavenderpaw and not completely followed by the rest. Silly Petalpaw struggled significantly with it, waking up late more often than any of the apprentices' mentors would have liked. He always tried to keep her from getting in trouble, though. Usually, if he made up an excuse for her, the mentors would believe him.
He turned his head back to gaze at Petalpaw, checking if they were following. "Hey, Petalpaw, do you want to go sit at the lake later? The moon is almost full and i bet it will be really pretty." They had sparred without Darkpaw the previous night, and he had had a lot of fun. He wanted to get another chance to talk and have fun with her one-on-one. He didn't make eye contact with Darkpaw.
"Well, weren't we going to spar tonight?" Darkpaw quietly spoke up, wondering how Lavenderpaw could forget this. He thought he saw the apprentice's lip twitch for a moment, but he might have imagined it as the other tom-cat's gaze shifted over to him.
"Yes, but...we just sparred yesterday, and I think a change of pace sounds nice." They probably weren't supposed to be out of the camp alone, but they could sneak out easily! And Darkpaw could spar with one of the other apprentices. He didn't need to spar with Petalpaw.

The red she-cat watched the dark furred tom after he answered her question, her eyes narrowing momentarily. Her tail twitched and she continued to listen to her friend as he belittled himself. Her brow furrowed, "You just gotta be more positive! You can do it. I've always believed in you." Petalpaw said firmly, "Stop being so hard on yourself." She nudged him with her nose, he could do it, she'd seen him do it before. He just needed more encouragement. Her eyes turned to Lavenderpaw as he spoke, he was right they did need to get going.
She started to walk and paused as the larger apprentice did she tilted her head a bit. "The lake?" She echoed softly just before Darkpaw spoke up. "Darkpaw is right I promised him I would spar with him. What kind of warrior would I make if I didn't keep my word." The she-cat mewed softly. "Plus, I don't think its a good idea to be sneaking out of camp, we could get in really big trouble." Petalpaw trotted past both toms "Come on guys, if I get there first that makes you both later than me." Her whiskers twitched with amusement. If they were later than her, they might as well not show up.
Her mentor was waiting for the three of them by the camp entrance his tail twitching. "Good morning Bouldershadow!" Petalpaw almost bounced over to the large gray tabby.
"I'm surprised you are on time." He said his whiskers twitching as he teased the young she-cat.
"I'm always on time!" That just earned her a look from the tom. She laughed nervously and just shifted her paws a bit, "Where are we going today?"

There she was, telling him again how he needed to stop putting himself down. She kept telling him that he was really much better than he thought he was, but he hadn't seen any evidence to back up what she saw. Even as she said she had seen him succeed before he could think of few times when he really made a catch that he could show off and shine from.
He wanted to protest with the sheer fact that his performance lately had been just awful, but she kept him from saying anything more as she drew closer to him and nudged him. He tried to hide the slightly wistful look on his face as he wished that she would let him come a little closer and just...appreciate her presence. But she had to continue on and turn away when Lavenderpaw addressed her, and with the quietest of sighs he continued on behind her.
Lavenderpaw's already present frown intensified as Petalpaw said it wasn't a good idea and that Darkpaw already had her promise. Why did Darkpaw get to steal away her attention? It wasn't right that she paid the unimpressive little scrawny kit so much attention. He took in a deep breath and was about to protest, ready to cite how she had just been abandoned by him the night before when she eagerly reminded them that it would be rather funny if they were both later than her. Leaving the matter for now without saying anything, he padded up to the pair of warriors.
They did happen to both get to the two warriors after Petalpaw, though it wasn't much of a concern given that it was early. Even so, it was plenty humorous for Birchtooth and Bouldershadow who watched the two tom-cats traipsing after Petalpaw as she bounded excitedly for the patrol.
"Petalpaw, you're the only one who is ever late," Darkpaw couldn't suppress a giggle from rising to his throat as he padded up behind her, and he gave her a gentle shove from behind.
"Today, we need to refresh the border with Riverclan," Birchtooth spoke clearly, wanting to be clear and concise in her instructions. "We are going to remark the border, check for any disturbances, and, if you can, pick up some prey. We didn't get as much as we needed yesterday," She tried to keep an edge from coming to her voice, but as Darkpaw's gaze averted down to his paws, she took in a breath and realized it might have sounded too critical. "But we're not a hunting patrol," She quickly added. "Don't sweat it, okay?"
