About In the moors, the smell of death is what lingers within the camps of BreezeClan - and the future looks dark. Elders, queens, kits, and everything in between are dying, and there seems to be no hope for a cure anytime soon. The medicine cats are restless, and those within the Clan fear that if things continued the way they were going, that BreezeClan would be no more. As a final result, a patrol is set out to look for a cure. Though they expected hardship, the cats in that patrol could've never imagined what was to come. Or just how much they'd have to sacrifice for the good of their beloved BreezeClan.

okay sweet, thanks for creating the thread ^^ we can plot more in advance or just role-play and see how it goes, idk also, I figure if you're up for it we could each make a few side characters that we can use as well since we'll basically be roleplaying a band of like 6-7 cats on a journey

i'll get my main character up by later today
i think before we start we just have to sort out the basics like where we're starting (just plot wise), and i mean just general background info - if that's okay?

That all sounds good to me. c: I figured for our starting point, it would make sense to begin at the clan camp--either when the patrol to go on the search is being put together, or afterwards when they are just getting ready to leave, but let me know what you think. ^^; As for general background info, do you have any ideas in mind?

Post by rose on Apr 9, 2020 14:33:33 GMT -5
it starting when the patrol being putt together would be fun - maybe the two aren't the keenest on eachother?
as for general territory, maybe they live in a plains-esque area, so they're just not ready for tougher terrain (an eventual death in the patrol because of that could be fun to play with)?
let me just pick/create a character :-)

Yes! I think it would be fun if they weren't really fans of one another to start off--like you said earlier about them being apprentices and seeing how they grow, I think it'll be equally nice to see how their relationship improves with each other over time. Perhaps one of them saves the other's life at some point, which maybe is some sort of turning point?
That makes a lot of sense, because I envisioned them having to go through like rocky cliff sides and snowy mountains, so I like the idea of them coming from a more mild setting and having trouble adjusting to different terrain. And an eventual death is a yes from me, because that always spices things up c': As for a name for the clan, if they live in an open setting maybe something like MoorClan? BreezeClan? GaleClan? Idk, if you like any of those let me know, but if you got suggestions please do share.
And yeah I have to create mine as well still ^^;

Amberpaw | conscientious, sarcastic, argumentative A dark brown tabby with a white belly and piercing amber eyes
here she is :-) not fully sure if I'm set on this name but I feel okay about it. I went ahead and figured out a positive, neutral and negative trait just to have a basis of where she's at now but not too much so I feel restricted as we RP.
I like BreezeClan!

Rustpaw // loyal, prideful, passive-aggressive A ginger tom with fluffy fur and yellow eyes I went ahead and followed your format to keep things cohesive, and man was it hard trying to think of traits that were neutral and negative x3 But I liked the idea of having some sort of base without being confined. Alright, BreezeClan it is. ^^ Should we figure out where the patrol will travel to first territory wise? Also, did you want to create any side characters to role-play on the patrol as well?
|
|
|
Post by rose on Apr 9, 2020 15:54:12 GMT -5
I love them haha (it gets a little tough sometimes with characters >.< )
i'm awful when it comes to territories if I'm being blunt, so that's honestly up to you if that's alright - I like the idea of things getting increasingly worse and worse (but not starting out too bad so a few may get cocky), and then the "bad" just kind of peaks.
how big are you thinking for the patrol?
|
|
|
Post by embercurse on Apr 9, 2020 16:22:22 GMT -5
Alright cx Maybe to start off they first travel through a dense forest? So they feel a bit boxed in and aren't used to having to carefully pick their way through the trees, but obviously they can manage just fine and it's just not something they're used to. Then it could progress to like a really rocky, almost sandy terrain where they're traveling like a up a mountain, so that's harder and more tough on their paws. Perhaps it could also get really hot, which they won't be used to. (dehydration/no water becomes a problem, cracked/sore paw pads?) Then maybe just to throw in a curveball they get a massive storm one night and then it's all wet and rainy and maybe some of them get sick? And then somewhere down the line I think they should end up in the snow somehow. x'3 Idk I also like the idea of things just getting more awful as times goes on but hey, it builds resilience? ^^; In addition, they could have trouble hunting certain prey they aren't used to, as well as have to cross thunderpaths and run into twoleg towns or twoleg hikers?? plus predators. there's a lot we could throw at them cx
I was thinking maybe 6-7 cats would be good. We could do six cats total, so each of us would have two side characters to use whenever convenient? Does that sound okay? You could make them whatever rank you desire--we could have the deputy join the patrol, or even a med cat? (perhaps BreezeClan's med cat apprentice already earned their full name, so they can spare a medicine cat on the journey? idk) or if you want to stick to good ole' warriors and apprentices we can do that as well ^^

i like it!
one of these guys could be the deputy/med cat if we want to go that route here are my side characters -
Brackenshade | brave, amusing, pedantic A light brown tom with green eyes
Cherryshade | nurturing, determined, controlling
A light ginger she-cat with amber eyes and a white belly
I used this site to help out with the personality traits, but it really doesn't matter if you choose to do them or not (just descriptions, or even just names would be fine with me :-) ) - ideonomy.mit.edu/essays/traits.html

It's up to you c: Would you prefer Brackenshade or Cherryshade to be a deputy or medicine cat? We can always split it--whichever role you don't take, I can have one of my cats fill it, and then I suppose our remaining characters would just be warriors.
Thank you for the help with the personality traits! That really saved me some time. c': Shadowfang // focused, daring, blunt A pure black tom with yellow eyes. Stormfoot // calm, reserved, indecisive A dark gray she-cat with green eyes.

[ Alright, here we go! c: ] --- Rustpaw
The smell of sickness and death lingered in the air of the BreezeClan camp. The clan cats had fallen prey to a disease that they hadn’t been exposed to before, and they were suffering for it. Three cats had died already in the span of two moons, and it seemed that even more of the clan were becoming ill.
Flowerstar was at a loss on how to help her clan. She had consulted with her deputy, Brackenshade, as well as the senior warriors, but they all confirmed her worst fears—no one knew the best course of action to take. It was still a mystery as to what was making her clan sick—was it the prey, the water, something in the air? Flowerstar just didn’t know, and BreezeClan’s medicine cat Redthorn was exhausting all of his resources trying to heal his clanmates and find the source of the sickness. The newly named Stormfoot was stretched beyond her experience in trying to help her mentor deal with the situation, and Flowerstar knew that a solution needed to be found as soon as possible.
When Redthorn informed Flowerstar that he had been visited by StarClan in his dreams, the leader thought the ancestors were sending them a cure. The news, however, was daunting.
Six cats would travel to find what BreezeClan needed the most and bring it back—or the clan would cease to exist.
Now she just needed to tell the rest of the clan. Meanwhile in the apprentice den, Rustpaw was rousing from a rough night of sleep. Nightmares plagued the tom’s dreams—visions of cats dropping dead on the spot and green ooze leaking out of their eyeballs. It was horrifying.
The ginger tom laid in his nest for a few moments to clear his thoughts, and then he remembered that today Flowerstar had stated she would be making an announcement. Confused, but eager to know what news the leader had to share, Rustpaw gathered himself and rose to his paws. Most of the other apprentices were still asleep, but they would awaken soon once Flowerstar made her call from atop the Highstone
As Rustpaw stepped out of the den he blinked quickly to adjust to the instant sunlight on his face, and his gaze was immediately drawn to where Flowerstar and Redthorn were conversing by the medicine den. I wonder what they’re talking about…

Sunlight lay at Amberpaw's paws as she awoke. She blinked the heaviness of sleep from her eyes and rose up, glancing around at her fellow apprentices. Does Spiderpaw ever bother waking up? she wondered bitterly. The tom was close to earning his warrior name; of course, he deserved it - he was almost at twelve moons - but the she-cat was sure she'd worked harder than Spiderpaw had ever worked. I deserve it more than that mousebrain. She rose to her paws groggily, swiping a rough tongue over her pelt - tangled heavily from the night prior. Her ears perked at the sound of a voice calling over the clearing, and she peaked a brown head out of the apprentices' den to see if the cat calling was worth listening to. Upon seeing her leader, Amberpaw finished her routinely morning wash - she deemed that showing up on time and untidy was worse than being a few hairlengths late and presentable. Finally, the she-cat presented herself to the world, blinking in the wide span of sunlight. She pushed her way through the small crowd quickly, apologizing under her breath for any annoyances that she may have caused.
"BreezeClan!" Flowerstar called. "As you know, our Clan is not as prosperous as we hoped for around this time of year. This is not to worry any of you," she mewled, her voice dropping with the second sentence. "And I know that my silence has not helped. I feel it's best to be transparent with all of you." The she-cat dug her claws into the tree stump she was sat upon to brace herself for reactions for what she was about to say next. "Last night, Redthorn had a visit from StarClan." She scanned the group of cats - her Clan - solemnly. "Six cats must travel to find the cure - a flower, pink and vibrant. Though I wish I knew how far you'd have to go, I'm afraid I don't; our ancestors have not told us much. I wish I could tell you what you'd have to endure, and though I don't know for sure, I do know it's not going to be a journey full of sunshine, I can promise you that. The perils you'll have to endure are a mystery to Redthorn and myself." She sucked in a breath. "So, who would like to volunteer?"

What?! Rustpaw’s eyes grew to be the size of saucers. StarClan had visited their medicine cat? This was exciting news for the young tom—in his short life he had yet to hear of such a thing happening. His high spirits were quickly dampened, however, when Flowerstar continued on and explained exactly what their ancestors told Redthorn. Some his clanmates would have to leave? To go on a dangerous journey? The tom’s initial wariness quickly faded as he realized this was his chance to prove himself to BreezeClan. He was still a young apprentice, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t show his clanmates he was worthy of being a warrior. Just as Rustpaw opened his mouth to speak up, however, someone else beat him to it. “I will go, Flowerstar.” It was Shadowfang. He was a daring cat, and a good warrior, if a little too blunt with his words sometimes. Still, there was no glaring reason the tom shouldn’t be allowed to go, and Flowerstar nodded her head to acknowledge the tom’s words.
Rustpaw lashed his tail, not wanting to miss his chance. “I want to go!” He held his ground as his clanmates turned to stare at him in shock, though he did feel his pelt warm under the attention of so many.
He heard someone snort and saw a few shake their heads.
“Him? He’s just an apprentice, and not even one of the older ones at that!”
Rustpaw’s ears pinned back against his head at the jibe, but he held Flowerstar’s gaze. “I want to help.”
For a moment Rustpaw was sure that the leader was going to deny him his request, but then the she-cat’s whiskers twitched and she nodded. Rustpaw’s heart just about leaped into his throat. This is it! This is my chance!

With Shadowfang's words, Amberpaw nodded in agreement. He was an able bodied warrior - if five more with his strength and agility were to volunteer, then the Clan would be set; they'd find the cure within half a moon, she was sure. Her ears perked when she heard another voice - one that was significantly less deep than the first; she recognized it as one she had heard many times when out training with her mentor. Rustpaw? she wondered in disbelief, once she had turned in the direction of the voice. What in StarClan's name makes that mousebrain think Flowerstar wants him to go on this journey? She looked up to her leader expectantly, waiting for a reaction. From an outside view, a simple scan around the clearing would show that the rest of the Clan was doing the same. Would the young leader laugh? How would she possibly let the ginger tom down? And yet, the leader didn't laugh. Instead, she merely nodded her head slowly. Amberpaw heard some around her suck in sharp breaths with the gesture - namely the former queens who had watched Rustpaw grow up in the nursery. There was a small rustle as other cats realized that Flowerstar was seeming to be taking all that she could get; the she-cat hid her desperation well, but the more experienced warriors could see through her blank gaze. Many wanted to go - to be one of the heroes that the Clan spoke words of praise about for the moons to come. Cherryshade chimed in quickly. "I'll go, Flowerstar." Authority laced her words and the she-cat pushed her way through the crowd to make sure those around her knew exactly what she wanted. The leader nodded.
Amberpaw's mind raced. She definitely didn't want to die on this journey, and the rewards didn't seem worth the risk. Besides, Flowerstar wouldn't want more than one apprentice, right? "I think I want to go," Spiderpaw mewled quietly to another apprentice by him. "If no one else-" "I want to volunteer!" Amberpaw meowed quickly. Foxdung. Why did I do that? It was a move purely on impulse, and she regretted it as soon as the words came out. If Flowerstar were to choose another apprentice then it certainly shouldn't have been Spiderpaw - that she was sure of - and she was too proud to back down now. Hopefully she doesn't even want another apprentice. Maybe Rustpaw's enough. Spiderpaw turned to look at her with distaste glimmering beneath his amber eyes. "You're too young-" "Very well, Amberpaw. Who else?" the leader asked.

Rustpaw could sense the disbelief that rippled throughout his clanmates as Flowerstar accepted him. He wasn’t quite sure how he had made the cut either, but he wasn’t going to start questioning the ‘why’ right now. What mattered was that he had done it! He was getting a chance to prove himself as a capable BreezeClan cat. I wouldn’t be surprised if I got my warrior name once this is all said and done, the tom thought proudly, sitting up a little straighter. He could see it now—the patrol of cats returning with the cure, praises being rained down on them, and Flowerstar announcing that Rustpaw had earned his warrior status with a naming ceremony to commence immediately. The tom could almost taste it.
As Cherryshade confidently stepped forward and also volunteered, Rustpaw became even more excited. This is great! I get to journey alongside Shadowfang and Cherryshade, there’s no way we won’t accomplish what StarClan has asked of us! Both of the warriors were strong and respected members of BreezeClan, and Rustpaw couldn’t wait to see who else would join the ranks of their journeying cats. I bet it’ll be Windflight! She’s so fast, she could probably reach the cure in three sunrises flat! Rustpaw was practically vibrating with eagerness to see who else would volunteer, but the next voice that he heard certainly wasn’t one that he had been expecting.
Rustpaw snapped his head around to ogle at Amberpaw, completely taken aback. What? Amberpaw? No way! There was no way Flowerstar would let two apprentices on such an important expedition, Rustpaw was sure of it. He had been the first apprentice to volunteer, he would get that special honor, right?
As Flowerstar nodded her head in acceptance, however, Rustpaw’s elation at being chosen dropped—he’d have to journey with Amberpaw? The two young cats didn’t exactly see eye to eye—in fact they usually clashed whenever they were out training together. Suddenly Rustpaw wasn’t so sure how he felt about being chosen for this task after all.
With Amberpaw joining them, though, that left two more slots to be filled. If Rustpaw was surprised when Amberpaw volunteered, that was nothing compared to his shock as Redthorn stepped forward. What? A medicine cat? He can’t be serious!
“We talked before, Flowerstar, about how it might be advantageous to take a cat with you who could communicate with StarClan while on this excursion. I don’t believe I should leave camp right now with so many clanmates to care for, but,” and the tom turned to beckon another cat forward, “Stormfoot has recently earned her full medicine cat name, and I think it would be in the best interest of this clan to have her join these traveling cats.”
“I would be honored to be selected, Flowerstar.” Stormfoot dipped her head respectfully.
It seemed that Flowerstar and Redthorn had discussed this possibility beforehand for the leader didn’t even hesitate at Redthorn’s suggestion. That meant that five positions were filled, only leaving one more open.

A lack of noise and a silent expectance hung low in the air. There was a strong anticipation to see who the final cat to be volunteer would be - and yet, it seemed no one would volunteer.
"I'll go." The voice belonged to Seedlily - an elder warrior. "I'd be gladly willing to lay down my life for the good of our Clan, Flowerstar."
The brown leader looked down unsure, and for the first time, instead of her nodding her head as per usual, she shook it.
"It may be dangerous here but it's even worse out there. You've served our Clan for many moons, and if it comes to it, I'd rather you join our ancestors surrounded by your Clan as opposed to out in the middle of nowhere. It's only what you deserve." The brown she-cat looked up expectantly. It seemed that no others were willing to volunteer. She couldn't send Seedlily - that she was sure of - and yet, this is had been what she feared most: choosing a cat to take on the world with the other five. What would happen if they didn't come back? What if her chosen warrior didn't make it? Would the death be on her paws? She sighed. "Brackenshade-" the molly paused momentarily to allow the tabby to glance up at her. "You're a strong warrior, and my deputy for a reason. I know you'll lead the patrol well."
The tom stared up in void shock for a moment. She can't be serious. Yes, he was the deputy and he had a duty to fulfill, but he had a kit. He glanced over to the nursery where Poppykit lay with her adopted mother. He gulped slowly, opening his mouth. "It's an honor, Flowerstar, really." He forced his eyes away from the dark silhouette of the prize that was his daughter, and his gaze hardened. She may have been his light, but BreezeClan came before all. "I'll lead the patrol. We won't tire until we've found the cure."
"Very well," Flowerstar mewled, forcing the hint of a smile onto her face. It seemed an unwelcome sight amidst the worry that clouded her gaze, but nonetheless, she trekked on. "Amberpaw, Rustpaw, Brackenshade, Smokefoot, Cherryshade, and Shadowfang. I pray the stars guide you well. Good luck."

Rustpaw was stunned to say the least. Under normal circumstances the ginger tom would’ve been elated to be on a mission with Brackenshade—he was BreezeClan’s deputy after all! There was no finer cat to look up to. But Rustpaw was also aware that Brackenshade had lost both a kit and his mate to this mysterious illness already, and that he would be leaving behind his surviving kit by leading the group.
For the first time since Flowerstar announced the journey, Rustpaw was beginning to realize why so few of his clanmates had been eager to volunteer. They were all worried about their families and the possibility of not returning home—or worse, coming back and realizing that loved ones had passed away in their absence.
Rustpaw supposed the choice had been easier for him, in that sense. Rustpaw didn’t have any siblings, and his mother had passed away just before he became an apprentice—she had never revealed who his father was, so Rustpaw didn’t really have any reservations about potentially leaving someone behind. Maybe he was a little worried about his own well being but at the moment he was mostly excited for the journey. I’ll see so many new places, I’m sure our open plains can’t be all that’s out there!
Vibrating with energy the tom rose to his paws as Flowerstar dismissed the clan. He just had one question on his mind. When do we leave?! It seemed he wasn’t the only cat wondering, for Rustpaw saw Shadowfang and Stormfoot both approach Brackenshade. The deputy was in charge of their little band of cats now after all, so he would be calling the shots.
Eager to hear what was being discussed for their journey, Rustpaw bounded over to the older cats, hoping to catch some of their conversation.

"We leave now," Brackenshade mewled. Authority laced his tone, and he was sure to make sure his band of cats didn't hear his voice quiver. I'm who they're counting on - Poppykit or no Poppykit. He scanned the group expectantly, counting the number of heads. Rustpaw had just shown up, alongside Cherryshade. Though he still didn't understand why Flowerstar had said yes to two apprentices and not Seedlily, he didn't dare question it. His leader knew best. "Where's Amber-" "I'm here!" Amberpaw mewled, making her way into the small crowd of four other cats facing Brackenshade.
And just where had she been? In truth, she'd been contemplating her decision. Why had she said yes? She had a mother who cared about her. Her fellow apprentices cared about her - her Clan cared about her. And yet, what had she done? She'd volunteered for this. Though her mother had wished her well on her journey and given her a rasp over the ear of affection, Amberpaw couldn't help but wonder just how much hurt her mother was hiding over what she'd done. BreezeClan comes first. BreezeClan comes first. And it was those thoughts that she forced to echo throughout her brain to keep her sane. BreezeClan comes first. It was those thoughts that thundered through her head as Brackenshade began instructing the group on ground rules during their journey. BreezeClan comes first. BreezeClan comes first. And finally, it was those words that continued to crash through her head - a wave threatening to destroy the calm of the ocean below it - as the group of cats finally disbanded. She stared blankly ahead as Brackenshade flicked his tail to signal the others to leave camp with him. "Well, what are we waiting for? An invitation?"
